Apr 4, 2009I have two xp latpops, m1330 and m1530. I'm just wondering if It's possible to exchange the blu-ray drive between the two (from m1530 to m1330).

View 8 RepliesI currently have a great XPS 1530 with a T9300. Dell was having 25% off over the weekend and I have a EPP code through my company giving me a total of 32% off. So I decided to make the move to the 1640. I was a little frustrated with my 1530 as I could not clock the RAM to 800 eventhough I had purchased it from dell AS AN UPGRADE!! haha. I was disapointed with the graphics card as well, 256mb of ram just isnt enough to get me through the day, I also ordered the 1080p screen which the 8600gt just couldnt really handle even when scrolling media loaded webpages.
I ordered my 1530 originally with the 256gb Samsung SSD. Let me tell you, lightning fast...
My question to you guys is... I ordered the RGBLED 1080p screen but while configuring my hard drive options for the 1640, I was unable to choose the 256gb SSD as an option, so im going to swap the 500gb 7200rpm drive with the SSD. Coupled with the T9900 and the 4670, 4gb ram.. Is this thing going to be a beast or just a little faster?
Here are the specs from my 1530:

I bought my M1530 a year ago with the DVD/CD drive... and I would like to change the DVD for an BluRay drive... but READ only... is that possible ?; I know about the BD Burner one but it's too expensive for me...
I would like to pay around 200$ only not 500$ lol, I don't need a burner right now... the blank BD are still too expensive.
Could I take 1 BluRay slot drive on eBay (or order 1 somehow at Dell ?) and put it in ?
I was at the Dell shop in Hong Kong the other day and had a close look at the XPS M1530, and frankly I was quite dissapointed by the loose/faulty hinge, as in part of the rotation is very loose, if you know what I mean.
What worries me is that Dell uses the same or similar hinge design on other models (Studio series, Inspiron 13), so just out of interest, who here already suffer from hinge issues with their XPS M1330/1530?
Does anyone know if a battery from M1330 (6cells) can be used for a M1530 ?
I can find only M1330 batteries.

Does anyone know if a pinmod exists to force a 667MHz FSB CPU to run at 800MHz? The chipset supports both 667/800MHz FSB CPUs so I would think it's possible.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've heard some stories of XPS systems (m1330/m1530) imploding after 1.5 years... anyone have any firsthand/secondhand info on the percentage of these or have I just heard about a few random people who have been unfortunate enough to have had disasters?
I have the nVidia GPU in my m1330, if that makes any difference - I heard about those dying, but I was under the impression that problem popped up out of the box and not 1.5 years down the road?
It's my only computer, so I use it most of the day, but I don't game (mostly word processing, browsing, working etc) and I try to be gentle with it.
I have a question, isn't there a possibility to change the way how volume increases and decreases. If i press volume button once, then volume increases only 2 points, till 100.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI love my E6400, but sometimes I think having an ultraportable would better meet my needs. I'm considering switching to an E4300 for this reason and am looking for some input. The specs of my E6400: P8400, WXGA+ LED backlit, 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, Intel 5300, 4500MHD, 9 cell. What I'm most concerned about is build quality, keyboard and screen quality, power, weight, and battery life between the two systems. I really like the screen on my E6400 and I'm worried that I'll be disappointed downgrading to a WXGA. Also, would I be saving an appreciable amount of weight by moving from an E6400 with a 9 cell to an E4300 with a 6 cell, enough so that it would justify switching laptops? Basically, is there anything I might be disappointed in by going from an E6400 to an E4300?
View 10 Replies View Relatedi havent been on here in awhile, mainly because everything has been running pretty well on my lappy for a while. i've got a new issue though, and i was hoping to get some assistance.
i noticed today after my computer installed internet explorer 8, that if i open a window, then drag it on the desktop, it leaves a white trail behind it. its really weird.
i've downloaded the latest drivers from dell, and just installed them. everything seems to be set right, from the resolution, the the sli enabled. but i'm at a loss
I have an XPS14 from the Dell outlet (UK) which means it was pre-configured. The machine has a 500gig hard disk and a 128 ssd. I was surprised to find the o/s on the large hard disk and intend to move it. Is there anything special I should take into account (dell partitions/drivers) when I do this. As I don't have windows disks I intend to clone the system disk.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been hearing that the read/playback performance of the bluray drive on this laptop is terrible. Some say that it stutters all the way through an entire movie and it is very loud. Is this true? My second question is about the $375 charge for upgrading from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM. Is it overpriced? Also, how easy is it to upgrade the RAM on the XPS 16?
View 6 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if an outside soucre other than DELL provide the slot load Blurray player for the XPS? I have just spoke to a Dell rep who said if i wanted to upgrade I would have to buy it and send it to them to service and install.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIt looks like you can build an XPS16 in any of ten million ways, but this is one combination I haven't found.
Does it exist?
And to those with experience with the XPS16 and the XPS13, is the added size and weight of the 16 noticeable?
I have a Dell XPS M1730 with 4GB Ram, 1TB in HD space. It is loaded with Windows 8.It works great except  for one little thing. When I start typing I have to watch where the mouse is. If it is in the middle of the text I am typing, it will go there in the middle of me typing. This becomes very annoying.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWas looking at Panasonic UJ-225B as a blu-ray writer drive for an upgrade of the DVD writer in my xps m1710. It is a slot loading drive and runs at x2 BD-R writing speeds.
Ridiculously expensive at the moment here in the UK (£325+VAT), so I have to be sure that it would fit/work OK in the Dell notebook before I shell out for it.
Has anyone got this drive fitted in the xps m1710?
I got this blue ray documentary in x264 .mkv format, I tried playing it with VLC,
it freezes to death. Also it it because of the 8600M GT card? Any other options?
I was offered a replacement on my XPS 1640 on march 17. I was told i would have an order number in 7 days- ( I have not) i have chatted and called many times_) Im told my case is escalated and is being handled by exexutive escalation team... Yet i have nothing - and everytime i call they say it will be escalted ( Um it has been since day one) you going to escalte the escalate? -I just want a firm ship date and confirmation on what the model will be and added hardware..
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy xps 1640 has been going strong until today for 5years +. Â I haven't even replaced the battery yet and it still works incredibly well, quite amazing I'd say. Â However, I've spent countless hours today trying to troubleshoot this issue and I can't even find a proper e-mail to contact dell with. Â I don't have warranty on it anymore but this is something that should be covered regardless of the limited warranty. Â The laptop is still in quite good state, I've never dropped it and I've maintained it properly throughout it's years. Â Aside from minor wear on the edges and the side lights not working anymore I have no issues with it. Â I was considering even upgrading the ram and ssd since it's my main workstation at the moment.
Anyways, I'll restate the problem: Computer turns on fine, no issues, if I move the screen up and down, 90% of the time there's a specific angle that it will trigger the notebook to turn off completely. Â It will start right up again if I press and hold the button, but otherwise it turns off instantly. Â This is not a sleep feature or anything, it's happening before and after I'm in Windows. Â I got through a day long's train ride and had no problems with this, I got into my apartment, booted it up, tried to readjust the screen and boom on the same day...
My Vostro 1520 touchpad pointer only moves horizontally. It runs win7/64. I have updated its driver to the latest version.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Dell Inspiron 5547 about 2 weeks ago. I've noticed a problem with the touchpad. My mouse sometimes moves erratically by itself. I'm not sure if this is a windows 8.1 issue, a hardware issue or driver issue. I have noticed that closing the monitor and then opening it again usually stops the mouse the issue temporarily.

But one day i plugged my charger for charging laptop and mouse goes mad... it starts moving to and fro of its own without me touching it.i googled the problem but did not found any useful material. i installed the ALPS driver and the only thing i get is i turn of my touchpad when charging and use a usb mouse instead.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThe touchpad on my Inspiron 11 3000 2 in 1 is driving me crazy. I think it's working as intended, but the fact that the area over the buttons is also part of the touchpad means that I'm constantly moving the cursor right before I click on something... It there any way to disable the touchpad area over the buttons?

The 3680 has 1 GB of RAM split in two slots

Am I able to just swap all the RAM from the two machines without any troubles? Are the compatible and how can I do this exactly? Is there a video tutorial?

I am probably getting the sxps 1640 and I was wondering would a bluray drive be worth it? I do have a Sony 40v4100 lcd tv. Can this drive output 24p through the hdmi port? And why isnt it a bluray burner like the xps m1530 line? How hard would it be to swap in a bluray drive, do you have to pull the whole computer apart to do so? Should I just spend the money on an external bluray player for my tv?

I have to send back my studio XPS 1645 the thing is I have a Bluray drive in the system but the original configuration is a DVD slot load drive.
