View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Dell Inspiron 5547 about 2 weeks ago. I've noticed a problem with the touchpad. My mouse sometimes moves erratically by itself. I'm not sure if this is a windows 8.1 issue, a hardware issue or driver issue. I have noticed that closing the monitor and then opening it again usually stops the mouse the issue temporarily.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using my dell inspiron for about a year and half and it worked fine. But one day i plugged my charger for charging laptop and mouse goes mad... it starts moving to and fro of its own without me touching it.i googled the problem but did not found any useful material. i installed the ALPS driver and the only thing i get is i turn of my touchpad when charging and use a usb mouse instead.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen you lightly tap the touchpad to start moving the cursor, it makes a noise. It's almost as if its being depressed around one mm every time you touch it. Now, I'm not talking about intentionally pressing it down and hearing a click.
Just lightly putting your finger on the pad. Is the feeling of it depressing slightly and making a small noise normal?
So I am contemplating between these two models but can't really decide. I like the real estate of the Vostro 1520 but the weight may be a problem. The 1320 is an option cause of it's battery life and weight. But at this point I am at a standstill...
So mainly, what are your opinions about these two macines..
I thinking about getting Vostro 1520 Notebook but i need the resolution to be around 19xx X 12xx but i spoke with dell tech support and they have told me that vostro doesn't get more then 14xx X 9xx ..
i spoke to someone online who has Vostro 1520 he said he get's 19xx X 12xx resolution with WXGA+ Truelife & 4500MDH intel video ..........
This might sound like a really stupid question, but could someone break down the differences and perhaps list the benefits and disadvantages (if any) between the two?
I know they're built on the same chassis. I know the Vostro comes in all black with a silver keyboard and the option of Windows XP whereas the Inspiron has 7 fantastic colours and three versions of Vista. But the reviews say different things, like how the Vostro gets hot but the Inspiron doesn't. Do either come with different versions of the 8600M? GS vs GT, DDR2 vs GDDR3?
I have a Dell Vostro 1520 supplied to me direct from Dell. I have always used the laptop on the mains adaptor until recently when I needed to run it off the battery and found it not to work. On the front of the laptop the battery charge light flashes from orange to blue continuously. The laptop still runs ok from the mains adaptor so I am guessing either the battery or the adaptor are faulty in some way, although the adaptor looks fine and fits snugly into the mains port on the laptop I have heard mainly people complaining on forums that they have had problems with their adaptors with no sign of damage to it. Obviously I don't want to replace the adaptor if it's a battery problem and vise versa. I have done the laptop self test on the battery which just comes up with a general battery fault because it has no charge. What the orange to blue flashing light indicates.

I'm considering a Dell Inspiron 15 or a Dell Vostro 1520, but can't decide. Which would you guys pick if you had to chose between the following....................................................
I've been trying to find reviews of the new Vostro 1520 on the web and have been having varying degrees of luck.
I have noticed however that a few people have complained that the left palm rest of the Vostro 1520 is too hot. One person measured it to be 103 deg F
I'm anxious to see how the new models compared to their predecessors. I've always liked the Vostro models and recommend them quite often in lieu of budget "retail" models.
They have decent build quality, look nice and they often go on-sale for dirt cheap!
The new models look promising. I hope that they are at least as good as the 1310/1510/2510/1710 that they're replacing. I'd also love to see the 1320 with a 13.3" LED-backlit display like the one on the Lenovo ThinkPad SL300!
Thinkpad SATA 1.5GB/s limitation (with SSD)
Anybody tried this before?
looks and i would much rather prefer this to upgrade to SSD, rather than buying a new laptop
I'm planning on doing a touchpad mod from the dreaded Alps to Synaptics on my E6400, and one of the touchpads I was considering using was the one from the Vostro 1500.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Vostro is about two weeks old and the touchpad suddenly stopped working. I have tried the function key to make sure it is enabled and did the f12 on boot but not sure I ran the correct test. I have a Dell support depot nearby so I may have to take the laptop to them if this can't be resolved - I have purchased pro support so it's fully covered.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell Vostro 2520, replaced Ubuntu with Windows 7. Ever since the OS was changed, I see no Touchpad option under "Mouse and other devices" in the device manager. Unable to scroll using the touchpad. Unable to install drivers as I always come across the error, "....exe is not a valid Win 32 application.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Vostro 1320 and my touchpad has decided to stop working in Windows 7 (particularly RC x64).
The touchpad works fine in safe mode but does not work nine times out of ten when booting regularly in Windows..
In Device Manager, the touchpad has an exclamation point and the error "This device cannot start. Code 10"...
I tried re-installing the driver provided by Dell and also the reference driver directly from the Synaptics website and neither fixed the issue..............
I'm currently using a Vostro 5470-20452G with Windows 8. It's about two months old and now the touchpad is not working. I've tried various methods like disabling and enabling the touchpad in settings but it still doesn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to clean the underneath of the touchpad mouse buttons of this Dell Vostro 2520 Notebook. since then both the buttons are not working. I am not being able to use the left right buttons and now using an external mouse.
What do I need to replace? How to purchase and from where. dell techincl support phone waiting time is currently 2-3 hours. I just tried.
I'm using windows 8.1 and my Touchpad doesn't recognize Elantech driver.
I already installed driver from Dell drivers website.
The problem is all my key fn function work but the enable/disable Touchpad doesn't work.
And I don't see any option to customize my Touchpad.
Only left click, right click, moving pointer are working, but scrolling doesn't work.
I think the driver isn't installed or maybe it isn't compatible with windows 8.1.
Does anyone have a solution or have an idea why my e6400 pointer locks up intermittently? Sometimes it locks for about 1 minute. Other times I have to reboot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, after a year of use, the Cypress trackpad has become inaccurate. The pointer judders when I move it across the screen and when I tap to open or close something or anywhere on the screen, the pointer move slightly (usually up and to right by a small amount) when I tap. This is frustrating when trying to do simple tasks. This is not caused by a change in senstivity on the trackpad. I have checked all the defaults settings in case something changed. I am running Windows 7 on a XPS 15z.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that sometimes after using the pointing stick for a while that if I let go, the mouse pointer will continue to move in a direction on its own.
It will only last for a few seconds but it is annoying when trying to scroll through documents and such. Is this a touchcheck problem or a driver problem? Or is it hardware?
I have a problem on my xps M1530, that sometimes when i am typing the mouse pointer automatically moves backwards or opens another window that ihave minimised, even though i am not touching the mouse pad.
it's really annoying as sometimes I don't realise it happens and it ruins what i was doing.
It seems to automatically move the text to where the mouse is pointing on the screen if you know what i mean. So i think somehow the mouse automatically positions and clicks itself. any ideas?
Has anyone come across this problem before? PLEASE HELP!. THANKS
