I'm running Vista 64, ad very occasionally when I try to hibernate the machine (either docked or un-docked) it waits for 5+ minutes with a black screen and then reboots.
View 3 RepliesI am after a notebook for work, basicly just nice and fast but i play games maybe an hour a week, although its not much i still want to be able to play all the new games.
I dont want to pay the extra for the 3700m so im left with the choice of the alienware m17x or the Precision. Because its for work and trying to look perfessional i dont think the alienware fits but if the 2700 wont game it will have to do.
I have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

The problem is after getting hibernate, especially from sleep to deep sleep and when resume i got BSOD with " multiple IRP requests complete" and ve reboot fresh start. I ve some clue that Kaspersky internet security can be faulty.
Anyone with this error? Kaspersky user? im stuck with several BSOD on resume always the same.
I just got my new M6400 and I cannot get it to goto standby or hibernate. I get the "Preparing to standby..." dialog and it just hangs there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Studio XPS 13 to Windows 7 Pro RTM and Im using the latest NVidia drivers for my 9400M. Problem is that occasionally, going into or coming out standby does not work. Going into standby,
the screen may blank out and there is constant hard drive activity, but the system never powers off. Or, coming out of standby, the screen is just blank. Most of the time it works ....
Before I start out, I will state that my computer is quite clean in terms of dust and I have applied as5 to my gpu/cpu. Temp should not be the issue here since according to ikfangui my gpu temps have never passed 80C.
Now, the problem I'm having is, it seems that any 1xx.xx driver makes my games do an occasional 2-3 second freeze at random times. My friend suggested that I uninstall my chipset, video drivers, reboot, and reinstall the stuff again. No go. I have no problems with the 97.92 drivers. The latest driver that I've had problems with is the 163.69.
I own a 7800go gtx that is at 425/1100 clockspeed, default clock is 400/1065 or something like that. So the O/C shouldn't be the issue.
We have 2 new T440p (i7 4800MQ, 16gb, ssd) which we installed with clean Win 8.1 and the newest drivers (intel hd 10.18.10.3345, nvidia 9.18.13.3182).
The laptops run on 4 ultra docks with different monitor configurations, mostly dual display, one single display, mostly samsung displays, always one display via dvi, second displays vga as we did not receive our display-port adapters yet).
In all configurations we have the same problem: Between every few seconds and about 20 minutes the external screens flicker and get rediscovered. Often this happens in Chrome or when doing some graphic-intensive stuff, but we cannot trace it down. Takes a few seconds to rediscover and all windows not in fullscreen are resized afterwards, because of display resolution detection and mostly we get the Display port new topology notification... We already tried with disabling the nvidia via the nvidia gpu settings and only using hd graphics but that didn't work.
A few years ago I had problems with my T400 discrete grafics, but then I could disable it in the BIOS which does not seem to be possible with the T440p...
Yup me again, in my hunt to determine if M6400 is right for me as it costs just about as much as a used car, I want to make sure its a good investment before I buy it.
What is the main difference with the M6400 and the M6400 Covet?
I configured both with the same specs and the Covet is about $900 more in price?
Does orange paint really cost that much?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
i have a studio 15 just wondering what you guys prefer hibernate or sleep mode?

First of all i want to say i have a dell xps 1530, Vista.
Recentrly ive reinstalled vista and now i have something strange going on.
When i got to start (i dont use button) and click on hibernate, notebook save data and when he is about to shut down, it just starts all over, the data doesnt go loss, so it starts the same as i did leave it in hibernate.
The strange thing is that, when i after this try to shut down it restarts again, so the only thing left to do for me to push the button so it just manualy shuts down.
One more thing, when i start again, and i direcly try to hibernate or shut down then it does his job, everything happens as it should be.
When I tried, it went into setup quick enough, decpomressed the files, and installed everything.
On the first re-boot, however, it got to the bista status bar, and continuously rebooted.
I thought maybe it was a 64 bit thing, but then used a 32 bit vista disk, and the same thing happened.
i turned off my dell E5410 laptop during an update on friday and now it will not start up.i have tried repair but it will not repair.i also cannot restore as it does not let me into windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my E6510 for about 2 months and I am having trouble with a spontaneous shutdown and reboot. There are no errors in the shutdown and the system reboots automatically within a few seconds of shutdown. I'm also experiencing trouble with system freezes. This latter problem may be fixed by an updated bios (as mentioned in another thread), but the shutdown and reboot is about to drive me crazy.
There is no rhyme or reason for it. I had it shutdown once when I pulled out a flashdrive one time, but the other times this was not an issue. Today I was typing an email message when it simply shutdown and rebooted.
It does not seem to be getting hot, but I need to check the LCD as mentioned in another thread.
I should mention this is 64-bit with 8MB RAM, running Windows 7.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and then instantly reboots. I have pushed F2, F12, F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but none of these do anything; all that happens is a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner comes up for a couple seconds and then my computer restarts. I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly.

On the keyboard, there is only Standby button (F1), I dont see hibernate anywhere?!!
I put my Inspiron 9300 into hibernate this morning, tried to wake it back up and all I'm getting aftet the Dell logo and status bar (POST) is a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left corner.
When I hit the Play button on the front of the notebook, it brings up the Dell Media Direct logo screen, but nothing happens.
When I boot with my XP CD and go to the recovery console, I can see the hard drive and files, though I can't access most folders because I get an Access Denied message.
I tried booting from my flash drive, but when I do, the flash drive is recognized as the c: drive and the hard drive isn't listed.
I also tried unplugging my laptop and battery and held down the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity. No luck.
I tried upgrading my Latitude's RAM using a 2MB chip first in the rear slot, and Win 7 didn't read any additional RAM (showing only 1GB). So I moved the 2MB chip to the MB under the keyboard and now it won't reboot. I tried to put the original RAM chips back in their respective slots (each 1MB RAM) but it still won't boot.
I guess I can't update the BIOS if it won't boot.
I was using my Studio 1537 when it suddenly shut down. I rebooted and the console media lights lit up and it sounded like it was restarting as normal but the screen remained black. I have tried a number of internet: restarting holding F12, restarting holding Fn+F8, removing battery and AC power & holding power key for 30 seconds - 1 minute and then restarting and also holding D while restarting to run screen diagnostics. I can see the coloured screens flash through but none of these ideas have restarted the monitor it remains black.

I have a user with a v515 printer connected by USB cable to a Latitude 5530 laptop. He's running Windows 7 32-bit.
His printer will print one document, and that comes out fine, but it won't print anything else until he reboots the computer. The second document goes into the queue and says "printing" but nothing happens. I tried restarting the print spooler, uninstalling and reinstalling the software and updating the firmware but nothing has worked.
I'm running Vista 64 and one of my recent windows updates, for the .NET framework, is not able to complete (I don't think it completely downloaded), but when I boot up it keeps trying to complete installation then reboots the computer when it can't, in an endless loop.
What can I do? Does Vista have a 'Safe Mode' or something where I can bypass the normal boot up and be able to get on there to grab my few unbacked-up files, then reinstall Vista? Any other kind of temporary fix? I've been seeing a few weird things for the last couple of weeks so I want to do a clean reinstall no matter what at this point, but I REALLY need to grab a few super important files first.
My G61 110 SA notebook fails to load drivers for any usb device, including Iphone 4, until i reboot. i have tried uninstalling all usb devices in the Device Manager, and allowing windows 7 SP1 to reload them, but this does not work??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to update my drivers, I went to dell website and got a few update for my drivers, but now, my computer won't go into standby or hibernate. If I try to go into standby, after I see the "preparing to standby" my computer goes black and the on light still on, then I can't wake the system up I have to press and hold the power button and reestart. When I try to go into hibernate mode after "preparing to hibernate" I see a blue screen with that says something like "an error has happened and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my system, the problem could be caused by a new software or driver... etc" After I restart it says, your system has recovered from a serious problem and then it ask me to send a report error, I do and then my web browser and open this: [url]I know the problem was a driver that I was trying to update to make my computer work better but instead it messed up. How do I undo the updated drivers?

Not sure if anyone else is running into this but I will put my computer into hibernate by closing the lid and toss it in my bag. Works for about 5-7 hibernates and then sometimes it will look like it is hibernating, but the machine never turns off. I open the lid and see that the keyboard backlight is on and the num lock or caps lock will go on and off, but I can't get the screen back. I can only hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then restart.
I just reformatted my Latitude XT with Windows 7 and it won't automatically go into hibernation as per my power settings.
I have it configured so that it will first go into sleep mode after being idle or closing the lid and then go into..............................
