As the title says, there is no driver available for the keyboard/touchpad on this laptop. There is no way to adjust the current touchpad settings. I've followed all the troubleshooting steps for Windows 8.1, but this model simply lacks a Dell Touchpad interface or any settings to change gestures or scrolling speeds and sensitivity. None of the usual gestures even work, not even pinch-zoom.
This wouldn't be a big deal if there were a driver available to fix the issue, but there isn't - this model does not have a input driver available at all. All that is provided is an ancient Mouse Properties thing that seems designed for a wired mouse and some ETDWare SmartTouch thing that does nothing at all as far as I can tell. The literature for this model claims that the laptop has " a roomy, gesture-enabled precision touchpad, [which can] zoom, click and point with impressive accuracy and speed." Well the gestures consist of two finger scrolling and nothing else, and there is no zoom, not to mention any other gestures, and accuracy and speed tend to rely on users tweaking things to their own unique preferences (impossible as it is).
All this is to say, is Dell working on getting an input driver for this model? Is there an update in the works? Is there some other method available to remedy this unfortunate failing of an otherwise pretty nice machine? If I don't hear back in a week or so, I'm just going to return this and buy a different brand.
Alright, so I bought an Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop in October and I have two main issues with it.
One is that the w key keeps falling off. The plastic hinge thing underneath is broken.
Second, I think the hard drive is failing. It's making weird beeping sounds, clicking, takes a long time to boot up, crashes occasionally and moves icons around on my desktop every time I start the damn thing up.
My question: what can I do about it? How do I go about getting this fixed? I love the laptop aside from those problems. Is it covered under warranty? Do I go back to the store I bought it from, or do I just work it out with Dell?
I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 series and 2 days ago Windows installed a critical update which stopped my keyboard and mouse working, I have had to do a system restore to get it working again but with it being a critical update I'm assuming I will need it.

It takes too much time to connect and also disconnects automatically frequently. Sometimes it shows only limited connectivity. I have updated the drivers but no change so far. All other devices in home are working properly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI replaced the hard drive in a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with a new one. The old hard drive wouldn't boot and failed several Dell hard drive diagnostic tests.
Now a message pops up when the laptop is powered on, "Hard-disk #***********-595B, the system primary HDD is protected by a password authentication system..."
I am repairing this laptop for a client of mine. I don't remember a password prompt before replacing the old hard drive, but now the laptop won't even let me enter SETUP without entering a password.
Dealing with a 7000 series Travelmate here that overheats when on MAINS (AC) power.
When you plug out the MAINS power and the affected areas (base of laptop near power pin connector and pin itself) cool down again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Inspirion 7000 will not boot and won't enter bios setup. I turned on mode to reduce cpu usage, and to show startup on screen. Next thing I know it won't boot.
If I press f2 early during what should be the post testing it says "entering setup" at the bottom of the screen. It hangs right there and goes no further.
I've pulled the hd, cd/floppy, battery, tried everthing suggested from another user I found who had the exact same problem.

I've tried to boot several different ways. It always hangs there at the 'entering setup' - won't boot from floppy or cd.
This laptop has worked without a problem for years. Running Win98se
Is there anyway to "reset" the bios when bios itself cannot be loaded?
I waited a long time for this new W540. Downlkoad all the newest drivers and did all the updates and now this POS will not shut down. Just goes to a black screen and have to hold the power button to force a shut down.
When I try to reboot the screen goes to black right after the home screen with a twirling cursor. Had to send my new W530 back for hard drive failure and now this W540 is screwed, too!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a set of "System Recovery" (Reinstall Disk) DVD's for my inspiron 15 7000 laptop.I removed the traditional Sata HD from the laptop and installed Samsung Evo 840 SSD. Connected an external DVD drive and booted using the System Recovery Disk 1.
The files started loading but after half were loaded gave error of something like 0x8xxxxxx and asked to reboot. The same error occurred after another reboot. The Recovery Disk are fine as i have verified them using dell backup software. Also is it possible to create Dell Recovery partition (O/S and drivers e.t.c) somehow on the new SSD if i install Windows 8 using the OEM disk straight away?
I recently bought this 2-in-1 and I love it but when using the keypad the cursor freezes temporarily in between actions so I have to resort to touch to continue. There's a lag of a few seconds (10) that is frustrating when I want to use the device as a laptop. The touchpad becomes unresponsive and I have to wait or use touch to continue...
Can this be altered in Settings or is it a bug?
My 2013 Inspiron tended to come out of hibernation either quite slowly , taking 20 to 30 seconds to get to the log-in screen, or crash altogether (not every time, but every 2 or 3 wake-ups) which required a hardware reboot.. After doing some research, I found some information. It appears there may be some conflict between BIOS settings and Windows (8.1 in my case).
I checked BIOS settings and the only thing I found was that Intel's Rapid Start Technology was enabled. So I turned it off and rebooted. Turns out, the Rapid Start actually delayed the boot process: my computer boots MUCH faster now (about half the time from before) in the full boot process, it comes out of hibernation almost instantaneously (as I would expect from a system with i7 processor, 16 GB Ram and SSD) and it has not yet crashed when coming out hibernation.
Just got the 1920 x 1080 version of the 13" inspiron. The left and right edges (about 5-10% and not top or bottom) of the screen are about half as bright as the rest of screen. Also on closer inspection I've noticed that on the left hand side, the middle part of the rubber edge is squashed in. Is this pretty much normal for these laptops? I'll see if my camera can capture these details.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
How to turn on the backlit keyboard feature. There is a button (f10) which is supposed to turn it on, but when I press it nothing happens.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy new Inspiron is having an issue with connecting to my home wifi. The router (UPC TC 7200 U) is set to 5 GHz on Channel 40 with n-standard and delivers a strong signal on all other devices that are connected.According to the product description the Inspiron 7000 should have no problems finding this network as it has a dual-band wifi card. The issue also doesn't lie with the router as other new devices that I brought to my home can find and connect to the network without any problems.I downloaded and installed the current intel and dell drivers for the wifi card; still I cannot find the 5GHz network on my new dell.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems as if the first time after I restart my laptop (Dell inspiron 7000 series, windows 8.1) and I attempt to use the volume/ backlight toggle/ brightness/ etc keys found on the F keys on my keyboard, I can use them pretty much freely. The problem is after I close my laptop for the first time since restarting I then have to hold the Fn button to use them. It can be very annoying at times considering you eventually get used to holding the Fn key, so after the first time using them since restarted you end up hitting F4/5/6 etc instead of changing the brightness or whatever setting you are trying to change. I was wondering if there was some type of setting where I can make these keys permanently free to use as opposed to having to hold the Fn keys after the first time the laptop is in sleep mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2 in 1 laptop for last 2 months. It is a nice laptop to use.
But I have an issue now. It is that the touch screen touches itself automatically on the left side of the screen over top to bottom. It occurs occasionally and it is annoying. I can't control the mouse when it occurs. When I restart the system, it stops.
I can't find any solutions for that. I did calibrate also. It didn't worked.
It touches all over the left portion without gaps.
I received my Inspiron 7537 1080 3 weeks ago. Everything works perfectly except the static noise after connecting headphones. Tried different headphones, latest drivers nothing worked. Dell has sent an engineer to look at the problem. He replaced entire motherboard but the noise is still there. I tried Bluetooth headphones and external sound card but this hissing noise is always there in the background. I am thinking about getting another one after refund but not sure if this static noise is present in all models or was this only one off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and then instantly reboots. I have pushed F2, F12, F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but none of these do anything; all that happens is a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner comes up for a couple seconds and then my computer restarts. I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly.
