i turned off my dell E5410 laptop during an update on friday and now it will not start up.i have tried repair but it will not repair.i also cannot restore as it does not let me into windows.
View 1 RepliesI've a latitude E5410, on which I've just installed Win7Pro. Everything installed quite OK, but I'm left with an unknown device that identifies itself as "SMO8800"; and I can't figure out what it might be nor where the drivers are.
BTW - no data nor software came with this machine. The generic copy of Win7Pro did not come from Dell.
Just mid usage, while plugged in, my laptop turned off completely unexpectedly. I do take care of my laptop, and it was not overheating, as it had been on only some five minutes, simply for browsing. Now, there are no signs of life. With whatever combination of the battery and/or adapter plugged in or not, it is always the same result; no lights at all and nothing to indicate what's happening. I tried holding down the power button with the battery and adapter out for two minutes and then trying again just with the adapter but that didn't work.

All my drivers are update. I have no strange software.
I've had my E6510 for about 2 months and I am having trouble with a spontaneous shutdown and reboot. There are no errors in the shutdown and the system reboots automatically within a few seconds of shutdown. I'm also experiencing trouble with system freezes. This latter problem may be fixed by an updated bios (as mentioned in another thread), but the shutdown and reboot is about to drive me crazy.
There is no rhyme or reason for it. I had it shutdown once when I pulled out a flashdrive one time, but the other times this was not an issue. Today I was typing an email message when it simply shutdown and rebooted.
It does not seem to be getting hot, but I need to check the LCD as mentioned in another thread.
I should mention this is 64-bit with 8MB RAM, running Windows 7.
My Lenovo touchpad is unresponsive after an update by avast that requires a reboot. I have no way to log in at this point. Is there a way around this? How do I fix it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried upgrading my Latitude's RAM using a 2MB chip first in the rear slot, and Win 7 didn't read any additional RAM (showing only 1GB). So I moved the 2MB chip to the MB under the keyboard and now it won't reboot. I tried to put the original RAM chips back in their respective slots (each 1MB RAM) but it still won't boot.
I guess I can't update the BIOS if it won't boot.
I have a user with a v515 printer connected by USB cable to a Latitude 5530 laptop. He's running Windows 7 32-bit.
His printer will print one document, and that comes out fine, but it won't print anything else until he reboots the computer. The second document goes into the queue and says "printing" but nothing happens. I tried restarting the print spooler, uninstalling and reinstalling the software and updating the firmware but nothing has worked.
My work computer will flicker, go blank/black and sometimes I can tap on the battery or the hard drive and it will come back. Sometimes (more times than not) it will require a total reboot. Lately it won't even load. It will load the Dell screen then it says Starting Windows the logo comes on then it goes black. It still loads and everything but I can't see anything. I've replaced the hard drive so I know it's not that. I've loaded the computer in safe mode and I have NO problems with it when it's in safe mode, only when it boots normal. I tried the FN+Power but nothing happened when I tried that the numberlock LED is the only one that stays lit, the others didn't start flashing or anything
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen one turns off the Bluetooth adapter from the tray icon, the tray icon disappears. In order to turn the BT adapter back on, it appears one must go to the Device Manager to re-enable the BT adapter. This is inconvenient and not awfully intuitive for a usual business end-user. In the past the BT icon in the tray would remain, but turn color to indicate it's off. And the end user could right-click it and turn it back on when needed.
Currently it appears, turning off the BT adapter, actually disables it and it "disappears". Is there a way to simply turn the adapter off and more importantly back on without having users get into the device manager from their standard user accounts?

I am planning on buying a new 14inch laptop with a 1440x900 screen resolution. I am quite interested in the Dell Latitude and I've found two references that look like what I am looking for: the E5410 and the E6410.
The E5410 doesn't seem to be available yet. It is referenced on the Dell website but it's not possible to buy it at the moment. Do you guys know whether we'll be able to get one soon? Is there any release date?
The E6410 is available to purchase but what is confusing me is that I don't see the differences between the E6410 and E5410. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Finally I am planning on getting an SSD but I have no idea which SSD brand is offered in the option. I have read in many forums that Intel make very good SDD at the moment. Do you think it will be better to buy the laptop with a basic HDD and then replace it with an Intel SSD? Will this void the warranty? Is it any cheaper?
I have an Ideapad Y510P with 24G SSD and Windows 8.1. I uninstalled the Express cache by a mistake. So I want to re-install it. Unfortunately, the install program told me that I need to reboot the system even I tried to reboot or shut down the system several time.

So ive been having fan issues with e6400+E/Dock for months now.
I have the dock with a 19' monitor on top and, a 17 incher attached to the left.
For some reason, after about an hour of use or when using a multitude of programs at once, my fan would kick into high gear and proceed to drive me nuts for hours. When looking up my temps, I noticed that the fan kicked in when my NVIDIA Quadro went above 61/62 degrees (occasionally going as high as 71).
Granted, I probably should have done this simple test months ago, but I finally decided to you use my setup W/O the 17 inch monitor and completely disconnected it from my dock.
Low and behold: no fan issues.
Temps remain in the mid-50's and fan stays at a low, quiet speed.
It appears that the extra work needed to drive the additional monitor is pushing the temps up and kicking in the fan.
So I have two questions as a result:
1) Didn't DELL test this dock before marketing/advertising it to be able to handle multiple monitors (without the aid of a very noisy and distracting fan)?
2) Am I supposed to just live with this now or, is it safe to try and over-ride DELLS factory settings to get the fan to remain at a low setting (how high is 66-70 degrees for the Quadro anyways)?
Multiple monitors are critical to my business and I honestly would not have dropped 2gs+ for this system had I known the fan would be this noisy and distracting.
Updated Bios to A12 today, the system stated the updated was successful but after it's auto reboot it longer boots.
When you turn the system on the screen stays powered off (nothing on the screen, and no back light). The HD and WiFi lights stay on, the battery light flashes.
I've tried removing the battery and powering with just the mains adapter, I get the same problem.
Latitude E6410, changed a bad HD for a new one. Installed windows 7. Besides having issues with WIFI and USB drivers, I cannot do a windows update, it shows a big red X, message I get is
" Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You many need to restart your computer"
I updated the bios, and rebooted like 15 times.
Using Dell Clent System Update to update a Latitude E6530. All drivers are updated now except the Intel Chipset Driver. On Windows 7 64 bit. Framework version of the driver is 3.0.921.
The error message that it gives is Update package digital signature is invalid - status: Failed Error Code 7
Not sure how to remedy this.
I am trying to install this driver update hoping it will remedy a black screen with cursor when logging in. It takes about a minute to login and then the desktop finally appears. Was taking quite a bit longer to log in before I updated the other drivers and then removed McAfee to see if it was eating up system resources.
today have appeared AFS2 force shutdown after i had updated bios from A10 to A12.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere seems to be a bug in the A06 BIOS update for the Latitude D600. The power supply that shipped with the machine is Model AA22850 for the PA-12 family. This power supply charged the battery fine when I received the computer. I updated the BIOS recently to A06 version and then started receiving a BIOS error upon boot up saying that it did not recognize the power supply. I replied to the error message and went into the BIOS setup and sure enough the battery status was not showing as charging. There green charging LED no longer was lit up and upon going into Windows and looking in the Power options in control panel the battery was not showing charging as well.
We happened to have a power supply for a Latitude D800 at the office and I plugged it in and it started charging the battery immediately. I also did not receive a BIOS error on boot either. That power supply is for the PA-10 family and has more current output. Evidently this new A06 BIOS is looking for that power supply. So....I have to get a larger power supply to have my system now charge.
The above fails with an error "check for updates failed" in the gui.
Sometimes it determines the list of updates to get, but then fails to download those updates, sitting on the download screen and doing nothing.
Files are created C:UsersadrianAppDataLocalDellClientSystemUpdate emp but they never exceed 11.7MB.
I purchased a refurbished Dell e6410 about a year ago. The Laptop was working find with no issues. But in mid August, I did a windows 7 update... After the update, windows restarted... But instead of booting up to windows... It went to "startup repair". It ran this several times until is said it could not repair the startup.
I ended up having to do a recovery and reload windows and re-image my HD... After doing that, I tried windows update again. Same issue. after windows update... It would just got to startup repair.
Again, I had to restore my OS and re-image my drive. I tested and checked the HD and go no errors. Ran disk check and disk check /r... But if I tried to run a windows update it would just go into startup repair and I would eventually have to just reload my os and re-image the drive.
I spoke to an agent from Dell about it... He suggested I wait a month before trying to do the windows update. Perhaps they have a bug.
So I waited two months and tried an update again, last night. This time, I would get the dell logo, with f12 option, that would go away and then "windows is loading necessary files", but then the screen would go black and dell screen came up gain, then "windows is loading necessary files". I let it do this for almost an hour. Windows never started... I had no option to get into safe mode or any other boot modes. I have a regular desk top pc that I have done windows update and it has no issues.
I am running windows 7 64bit.
I'm trying to update the BIOS on a latitude E5430. When I try to run the file it provides an error that states the machine needs to be plugged in and battery connected. Both are true. However the battery LED blinks orange. A new battery has been ordered but with the most cost effective shipping it could be a week or two until it arrives. Laptop runs fine when plugged in and that is the way it is used normally anyway.
On a desktop computer you wouldn't require a UPS with good battery to flash a bios, so why would you require that on a laptop if it is plugged in? I am familiar with the plugged in requirement and that makes sense, and the laptop is plugged in.
Is there a command switch such as 5430A15.exe /force or something similar to brute force the BIOS to install?
The A10 BIOS update for the E6540, released on the 4th of July, causes severe keyboard issues on Linux. During routine typing, keys will 'stick' until any other key is pressed. The keys that stick vary and seem random: sometimes it's the space bar, sometimes alphanumerics and sometimes, worst of all, the backspace key.
This went on for a couple of weeks, I then noted that the BIOS update changelog included "Keyboard input improvement." and so rebooted back in to Windows 7 and downgraded to A08. I have had no problems since.
OS: Arch Linux, kernel 3.15.x, KDE 4.13.x
I've also had problems with the backlight coming on on its own, after the lid has been shut, but I have not been able to determine if this is a firmware issue. I do note however, that LCD backlight issues have been addressed in this BIOS update as well. My current workaround is to use the possum mode thingy (Fn + B), which turns off all sound and vision.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
I'm running Vista 64, ad very occasionally when I try to hibernate the machine (either docked or un-docked) it waits for 5+ minutes with a black screen and then reboots.

On the first re-boot, however, it got to the bista status bar, and continuously rebooted.
I thought maybe it was a 64 bit thing, but then used a 32 bit vista disk, and the same thing happened.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and then instantly reboots. I have pushed F2, F12, F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but none of these do anything; all that happens is a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner comes up for a couple seconds and then my computer restarts. I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly.
