Dell :: SDHC Card For Netbook
Feb 27, 2010
I have a new Dell 10 Netbook and purchased a Sandisc 16 GB Card for netbooks. The card does not enter fully into the memory expansion slot. My computer does recognize it and opens, but the card sticks out of the computer. I thought the card should be invisible, my experience in using cards for other devices. Is this norma.? I don't want to force the card.

I need some help:
1) I want to know if anybody is using an SDHC card as a readyboost drive
2) What are the maximum SDHC specs that can be utilized by the computer (both size and class), i.e., what is the maximum size and speed supported by the reader.
If am thinking of buying this card for readyboost (I plan to have it always in the slot): ...

High capacity SD cards of 4 GB or 8 GB (or even higher) has been in the market for some time. Can Sony Vaio TT read these high capacity cards without an adapter?

I'm trying to use a 8GB SDHC card on my M1530, the card is "detected" after a little while of being connected. It won't read the size nor the format but it'll say that it does need formatting. I can connect the card to my Toshiba laptop and it'll read just fine and even format properly.
I'm using Vista Ultimate / Windows 7 RC1 (doesn't work on both). I tried to download the XP hotfix but that won't install.

I can't run my 8GB SDHC card on the built-in card reader on my M4400.
Current OS is windows xp x64.
Is there an update for this issue?
One more thing is where to buy a new motherboard for the same
but the one include the nVIDIA 1700M?
I'm looking to upgrade mine, is it expensive?

I rely heavily on SDHC cards and use the built in card reader heavily in my Studio 1537.
I just bought a new Studio XPS 16 and it won't read my SDHC cards. I chatted with Dell last night and they took control of my system remotely.. They couldn't fix it, and finally said "The Studio XPS 16 does not support SDHC, you'll have to use regular SD"
I just find this hard to believe on a new, so called "State of the art system"
I also have a Studio 15 (1537) and SDHC works perfectly.
After fighting with several "Techs" and their "Supervisors" I returned the system and bought another..... AND, what do you know... I was right....It does support SDHC!!

From what I've read, it *should* work, but the computer does not recognize a 32GB SDHC card that reads fine on other computers and my PDA.
I've installed the latest driver available from Dell and the XP hotfix, restarted the computer, but whenever I try, I get a "device cannot start" error in the device manager.
A regular 2GB SD card reads fine.

I just bought a new 64 bit Studio XPS and it will not recognize any of my SDHC cards using the built in card reader, or Western Digital 250gb USB passport.
It will recognize my USB Thumbdrives (8gb)
I rely heavily on SDHC cards.
Each time i plug one in, it asks me to format, but it won't actually format.

I was wondering how far out an installed SD/SDHC card sticks out of the slot on the Mini 9? It seems a common thing for people to buy a big, fast card and leave it in there for permanent additional storage. I've got one on order thanks to all the fun with the Dell Outlet this week (missed the 15% off deal but managed to score a 512/16GB with no OS (have spare XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu I'm going to try) for only $329).
I ordered a 2GB stick of G.Skill 4-4-4-12 from Newegg but haven't yet picked up an SD card - I had one in my fiancée's e1505 but in her taking it places it apparently got knocked out, but since that was just for ReadyBoost, no big deal. However if I have an 8GB+ SDHC card in my Mini 9 I don't want it disappearing for obvious reasons.

I know you have a forum for advice on what notebook to buy, but I know what models I like. I like the mini 9 but am thinking of waiting until the mini 10 is avaible. And the other I like is either the Inspiron 1535 or the Studio 15.
I will use it primarily for surfing the net and writing in Word or Open Office. I want it to be portable, but it doesn't have to be ultra portable, though that is a big draw of the mini series...
I think I prefer XP but hubby has Vista and I think I could learn to live with that. We've already got a Inspiron 530 desktop and he loves it. The thing that I think I might want, is to listen to music while I write and that makes the netbook not work out so well, BUT I have a cool Nextar MP3 player that works great for me and holds most of my music already set up, so I could live with that .....

If I wanted to surf the web or send emails from my bed while sick and confined to bed which of Dell's netbooks would be best?
About 2 months ago I received a Vostro 1510 and for a period of time I had the flu, I tried using the 1510 while in bed just to surf the net and send a few emails but it was just too heavy.

I bought this laptop to replace the company-issued one that I've used on personal excursions for a few years, since I'll soon be leaving my current employer.
Portability and battery life were my primary concerns, followed immediately by price. I'm a programmer, but most of my work is done remotely by SSH, so power isn't a real concern. 90% of my intended use is a mix of ssh and firefox.
Specs:
Given my requirements, and the fact that I'm a die-hard Linux proponent,
I went with the Ubuntu version with a 4GB SSD and 1GB RAM. I got the integrated wifi and bluetooth modules, as well as the 1.3MP webcam.
The wifi was the only requirement, but the other two were cheap enough that I included them as amusements. I typically leave the bluetooth soft-disabled .....

Pros:
+Size
+Weight
+Craftsmanship
+Style
+Cost
+Trackpad Operation
+Integrated Web Camera
+Win XP
+Availability
+Keypad Size and Design
+3USB, HDMI, external speaker option, card reader
+Ethernet port & internal wireless
+Power cord construction.
Cons: - Speakers are under the machine (muffled sound)
- Intel Atom Processor
- Cant get to the hard drive externally
- Screen size cuts off some dialog box's footer & resizing is a chore if not
impossible..
Summary: Placed this side by side with all its current competitors (and I did) and it will win every time. There are just too many pro's than con's and off of that alone makes this the best buy in every way.

I bought an acer ZA3. The only changes I made were I removed Mccafee recplaced with AVG and installed Firefox. The problem is is locks up when my grandaughter (who I bought it for) uses the built in games (cake time or something like that) or plays some web based dress up game. Even CTRL ALT DEL would not bring up the task manager. Did I just get a bad one or should I consider a different one?

My sister has an Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook (Windows 7 starter etc etc) and I need to action a Factory Reset.
My issue is, there doesn't appear to be any option for F8 when the netbook boots up.
I've googled the issue & it appears many people have had this issue.
I've tried the simple F8 & F10 options, along with FN + F8 &/or F10, Ctrl +F8 &/or F10 etc etc.
I'm at my wits end with this now as it doesn't appear to enter the recovery option with any of these functions.
There is definitely a recovery partition to the netbook, and the most annoying thing of all.......
I actually managed to restore to factory settings on this netbook no more than 6 months ago!!!

My nearly-new Acer One Netbook had fairly low volume from the speakers when new. Now it is barely audible. The headphone jack delivers full volume. Control panel and the on-screen indicator show full volume.

Is it part of the MOBO thats the issue?

I have an aspireone that im using in a carputer setup. Rather than mounting it on the floor right side up with the vents to the carpet, I plan on mounting it upside down, giving the vents inches of airspace. Is this a good idea or will the heat rising this way be bad... or will this bring down the hdd's life?

I have an old DV6565us Pavilion. It runs EXTREMELY slow. I did a clean reinstall, but it is still pretty darn slow.
OS NameMicrosoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Version6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
System Model HP Pavilion dv6500 Notebook PC
ProcessorIntel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz
Memory 2GB
HDD 160GB
Video Intel X3100
I'm looking to replace it with a netbook or another 15.4" widescreen notebook. I mainly use it for office productivity (powerpoint, word), internet, and some multimedia (hulu, etc).
This current notebook does it's job. But its pretty slow once I start to open up a number of applications. I can trade this notebook for cash ($250). Not sure if this is a good deal or not... But anyway...

to keep costs down I ordered with wireless G. I have wireless N at my home and want to use that speed. If I buy one of those new tiny wireless N USB adapters will I be able to use that to surf with the netbook (would I have to turn off the internal wireless on the netbook first?).
The Trendnet USB wireless N adapter sells for less than $20 on eBay. Wireless N add on from HP when ordering this netbook is $50.
My order:
HP Mini 210 Silver Crystal 1 GB ram 160 GB 5400 rpm hard drive, HD screen, Broadcom HD chip, wireless G, 3 cell battery, Windows XP.
