Dell :: Studio 15 BlueScreen Because Of SD Reader

Jan 27, 2009

Anyone else having problems with the SD card reader?

Everytime i plug in an SD card the system Blue Screen's on me. This is running XP. So far iv'e tried these 2 versions of drivers..

v3.54.05

and

v3.51.01

one thing, During trying different drivers I once plugged in my SD card while no drivers were installed, the system still BlueScreened on me.

The first thing I did when getting the system was wipe-off Vista. I dont know if this Ricoh card reader works or not in Vista, but im starting to wonder if I have some sort of hardware problem.

Dell :: Bluescreen When Installing Vista X64 On Studio 17

Oct 18, 2008

I have a Studio 17 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. Im trying to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and when I boot from the DVD, it says Loading files, than at the end of that it shows me to screen with the Microsoft bar like its going to load windows, but then I immediately get a blue screen with the error irql not equal to or something like that.

I tried disable the flash cache in the BIOS but it still gets the blue screen as soon as it trys to enter the setup screen.

My BIOS is set to ACHI and I have not changed that.

I wanted to try out the 64 bit Vista and still have my 32 bit on it in case I run into some apps that wont run in 64 bit.

anyone have any idea what I need to do? I have a seperate logical partition that I made for the Vista 64 bit. So I have 2 partitions, a C: partition which has the Vista Home on it that came with this laptop and I was hoping to install the 64 bit onto the D: partition but Im getting the blue screen.

Do I need to do anything with the ACHI setting? I have 4 gigs of ram and would like to use it.

Dell :: Call Of Duty 5 Crashes To Bluescreen

i got cod5: waw recently. played only multiplayer so far.

problem: it already crashed three times to a bluescreen.

i tried to change the video driver from 180.42 to stock dell 175.75. same problem.

i used no overclock. atitool off. no background processes.

i guess it is the game, cause i played cod4 for a LONG time and never had this issue. also played through bioshock, farcry2, etc. never a bluescreen there.

Dell :: E6400 Bluescreen Whilst XP Installation

Oct 20, 2008

j just received the new Dell Latitude E6400. Now i wanted to install a fresh Windows XP incl. SP2 and whilst the installation, after the drivers were loaded a bluescreen appears.

I already have created a slipstream CD with SP3 and the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers, but that doesn't work either.

Has someone already installed XP on that notebook (i guess so). What have you done to make it work?

Dell :: No Fingerprint Reader On The Studio 17 Anymore

Aug 27, 2009

I'm looking to get a new laptop and wanted to get another Dell Studio 17, but I was astonished when I saw that this model apparently no longer comes with a fingerprint reader? That's enough to make me not want to buy the laptop.

Does anyone know why they got rid of it? Was it too problematic? Customer service was suitably unhelpful during the online chat...

Dell :: Fingerprint Reader And The Studio 1555, Possible?

May 9, 2009

Might have noticed that I ordered the Studio 1555 a few days ago (check sig for specs).

I am fully aware that it doesn't have a fingerprint reader, but I did see in another thread of retrofitting palmrests,

which have apparent available cuts for the fingerprint reader.

Now is the fingerprint reader somehow soldered to the motherboard? How could I go about replacing my palmrest with a fingerprint reader? Is this possible?

I have to push and hold the card all the way down to the bottom of its travel for the computer to recognize it. This means I have to keep my hand on it to use it.

Sony :: VGN-FZ11E Memory (bluescreen)

Feb 17, 2009

For few months already I am getting irregular bluescreens announcing "Memory Parity Fail" on my FZ11E.. Most of the time it's when the computer has noticeably warmed up but not always. Sometimes there's no crash for weeks and suddenly it's here again and keep coming back several times per day.

My guess would be the memory gets overheated, probably because I upgraded from 2x512MB to a cheap pair of Corsair's 1GB. However I suspect my computer might have a tendency to get too hot by itself even if I keep it on hard surface and always on a Balanced power plan. Memory tests show no errors so I can't know for sure.

The question is, how do I find out if the problem is in RAM or the cooling system? I'm willing to buy a new pair of memory modules but want to make sure it will fix the issue.

CPU: T7100 @ 1.8GHZ x2
RAM: CORSAIR DDR2 1GBB SODIMM 667MHZ CL5

How is the simplest way to fix this without loosing any private files?

Lenovo X120e X Series ThinkPad :: Bluescreen On Windows Startup?

May 15, 2014

Recently, my x120e began blue-screening (with error code c000021a)  while Windows was starting up. However, if the computer was off for a period of time, usually about 5-10 minutes minimum, it would start up with no problems. I thought it might be overheating except for two things:

1) Once windows started up, I had no issues. No matter how much processing power I was using, it didn't bluescreen or even try to turn itself off

2) When I rebooted in safe mode and looked at what modules it was loading, it always failed after the same one (CLASSPNP.SYS)

I had heard that there were occasionally some significant driver issues with my hardware, so I did a clean re-install of Windows (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit), hoping that this would rule that out.

The issue persisted, and in fact would interfere with a Windows install disk booting into the installer. After I got the installation to complete, the previous issue continued to be present.

I did some Google searching and found that the BSOD error code c000021a is generally caused by a driver or security issue, and the usual solutions suggested are to try to use the "Last Known Good Configuration Option" for windows startup, and to update drivers. However, neither of these things have worked, as it still does this on a fresh Windows install.

I also tried running without the battery (AC power only) and without the AC power (battery only), and neither has fixed the issue.

(Side note: This was originally happening with the original 320GB hard disk that came in the machine. I was going to upgrade to an SSD anyway, and this problem has persisted with the new drive).

Dell Studio 1735 :: AuthenTec AES2810 Fingerprint Reader After Fresh Load Of Vista X64

Mar 5, 2009

On my Dell Studio 1735 laptop I have been running with Vista Ultimate x32 since I got it - yes - the <gasp> factory load! Everything worked flawlessly under that factory load. I decided yesterday to install Vista Ultimate x64 after having downloaded all drivers from Dell's website that I needed (made sure to download the x64 specific drivers). After installing, all drivers went in normally, but, the fingerprint reader (even though it's recognized in the control panel and services for it are running) doesn't give me the option of using it to logon to Windows or into any websites or anything else. I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers - no change. There is no GUI to enable/disable it that I can find. I've gone through the Program Files folder that it's installed into but nothing showing as an executable.

Dell :: Studio 1735 / Authentic Finger Print Reader Drivers And Windows 7 X64 Upgrade

Nov 28, 2012

I did an upgrade from win vista x32 to win 7 x64 on my Dell Studio 1735.   In order to do that upgrade I did change the HDD to a 1 TB and update from 3GB to 4GB ram.

Now I have on item still not working after that upgrade.    The integrated biometric (fingerprint reader) refuse to work.  Windows 7 x64 did detect that it was an Authentec device, and installed it driver.

But If I installe the software for the reader.  It refuse to install and give this as the reason (No driver installed for the reader)   I've tried to replace the windows driver with the original Authentec drivers, but windows 7 replace the drivers with it's own.

Any windows 7 drivers out there for my Authentec integrated device ?

I highly recommend the standalone desktop version by Upek.

The cheapest I could find was buy.com ($41.08 with 5% off coupon available everywhere).

Mine came with the 5.8.2 version of their software, but the build date of the one posted in the "Upek" thread was a bit higher, so I used that one... ((not so) New Upek Fingerprint Reader Driver)

The reader operates exactly the same way as the one in the laptop (duh? same brand and same software).

If you have encrypted files from your laptop, you can open them on your desktop and vice versa...

Went back to the original vista business 32 bit, however, everytime i turn on my computer, during pre-boot it asks me to scan my finger to get access to my computer, i just want to disable it, but it will not let me, i went into security setting in dell control point, and in that funky embassy software, i cannot find a way to disable the finger print reader, i dont want to uninstall just disable, any insights?

Dell :: How To Turn Off Fingerprint Reader

I got an E4300 through work and set up the fingerprint reader at the request of my IT department, but I hate this stupid thing. It never works and I always have to manually override it.

I asked them to take it off, but it's "firm policy" for our laptops to have the reader turned on.

Anyone know how to turn it off? It's controlled through Dell ControlPoint and maybe a proprietary program we have.
