Dell :: Call Of Duty 5 Crashes To Bluescreen
Nov 25, 2008
i got cod5: waw recently. played only multiplayer so far.
problem: it already crashed three times to a bluescreen.
i tried to change the video driver from 180.42 to stock dell 175.75. same problem.
i used no overclock. atitool off. no background processes.
i guess it is the game, cause i played cod4 for a LONG time and never had this issue. also played through bioshock, farcry2, etc. never a bluescreen there.

Got my studio xps 16 yesterday, love it but have an issue. In call of duty 4 i can only seem to get a limited number of resolutions even if i change the aspect ratio from 4:3, 16:9 etc. For example i have no resolution in between 1280*1024 and 1920*1080. Need a 1600*1200 option. Changing the aspect ratio in l4d gave me more options but this fix doesnt work in cod 4.

I just last week received my 1530 and loaded COD4 on it 2 days ago. It plays well, but when the action gets intense, I get a pretty serious frame lag.
I have played around with the settings in an attempt to resolve it, but don't really know what I am doing or where to start. Can someone recommend the first few most effective settings changes?

So the technician successfully replaced my video card and everything was great and fine with the world. I tried it out on Call of Duty 4 and checked the temps which peaked at a MUCH lower level so I thought I was good to go and I was happy. The only problem I had was a small amount of choppyness in the game, but I just figured I had the settings too high and I had not overclocked it at all. No problem.... So now today I wanted to play good old Oblivion and I figured this would need some overclocking because well....its Oblivion. So I start up ATI Tool and overclock it to around 620 mhz core and 720 mhx memory...Not too much overclock considering some of you have got yours to like 650 or higher and 800 in the memory department... Well I was just about to start playing when after the game loads there is no character on the screen just grey lines... So I figure maybe I overclocked it to much? I turned it down about 10 to 20 mhz and I still had some artifacts? I pretty much turned overclocking so far down I would now consider it slightly pushing the card. So I try to play oblivion and it is really choppy. Before I got this new card I had some pretty bad heat problems and crashing because of it, but I could overclock it to a MUCH higher level than that of this non heat problematic card?
So my question to all of you highly intelligent and knowledgeable people of this forum is do I have a bum card or is something else the matter? Sorry for such a long post I just felt my story needed to be fully explained so I could receive the best support...

With the base Macbook Pro, how will the following titles work:
1.) TF2
2.) L4D
3.) Call of Duty: Modern/WaW
I'm guessing the default of 2gig ram is going to hurt. I would upgrade in the near future to 4. I'm not looking to put AA/AF on, but I would like a smooth framerate at the native resolution.

I see that COD4 is available for mac.
I assume that means I can install it on Macs own OS (not bootcamp)?
How well will it run on the 13" Unibody Mac?

I have a Studio 17 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. Im trying to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and when I boot from the DVD, it says Loading files, than at the end of that it shows me to screen with the Microsoft bar like its going to load windows, but then I immediately get a blue screen with the error irql not equal to or something like that.
I tried disable the flash cache in the BIOS but it still gets the blue screen as soon as it trys to enter the setup screen.
My BIOS is set to ACHI and I have not changed that.
I wanted to try out the 64 bit Vista and still have my 32 bit on it in case I run into some apps that wont run in 64 bit.
anyone have any idea what I need to do? I have a seperate logical partition that I made for the Vista 64 bit. So I have 2 partitions, a C: partition which has the Vista Home on it that came with this laptop and I was hoping to install the 64 bit onto the D: partition but Im getting the blue screen.
Do I need to do anything with the ACHI setting? I have 4 gigs of ram and would like to use it.

j just received the new Dell Latitude E6400. Now i wanted to install a fresh Windows XP incl. SP2 and whilst the installation, after the drivers were loaded a bluescreen appears.
I already have created a slipstream CD with SP3 and the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers, but that doesn't work either.
Has someone already installed XP on that notebook (i guess so). What have you done to make it work?

I received a call from a guy who was clearly calling from India today about ComgpleteCare. It seemed that he already had all my info and apparently ordered CompleteCare before I even confirmed it.
My son had picked up the phone, was given a confirmation number, and my son then gave the phone to me. When I was given the phone, the guy said that he wanted to verify a few things. He asked me for my credit card number, which I stupidly gave to him. He then said that CompleteCare was ordered .....

For few months already I am getting irregular bluescreens announcing "Memory Parity Fail" on my FZ11E.. Most of the time it's when the computer has noticeably warmed up but not always. Sometimes there's no crash for weeks and suddenly it's here again and keep coming back several times per day.
My guess would be the memory gets overheated, probably because I upgraded from 2x512MB to a cheap pair of Corsair's 1GB. However I suspect my computer might have a tendency to get too hot by itself even if I keep it on hard surface and always on a Balanced power plan. Memory tests show no errors so I can't know for sure.
The question is, how do I find out if the problem is in RAM or the cooling system? I'm willing to buy a new pair of memory modules but want to make sure it will fix the issue.

I have a problem with a HP Pavilion dv4000. I have tried to repair windows, and I have also installed windows once more (over the current one to secure that no personal files is deleted).
But when starting up it reboots under loading. at the bluescreen it says "unmountable_boot_volume", and the error code is 0x000000ED.
How is the simplest way to fix this without loosing any private files?
Fixboot?
It's Windows XP Home version.

I just did a clean install of my Acer 5101AWLMI with TinyXp removing all partitions, now this has worked fine on all other computers I used it on. But the Acer Laptop comes up with the error message STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78a6528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000), after Windows XP loading screen. I never get to the login or desktop. I have read the [url], but it doesn't help, how am i supposed to get drivers from the manufacturer installed on the laptop when I can't get to the desktop? I have reinstalled and formated several times and even run Spinrite 6.5 to check for harddisk failes, but to no avail!

I've got a 1555 spec'd out with a 25% discount coupon code applied($1154 to $865).
I was wondering if anyone thought it was worthwhile to call Dell up and try to get them to offer me an even better deal. There's nothing else I really want....I mean, I guess they could up me from a P8600 to a P8700, but that's about it. So I wonder if I could get them down to an even $800.
Any thoughts or recommendations? I'm on a very limited budget, so every bit helps...

Recently, my x120e began blue-screening (with error code c000021a) while Windows was starting up. However, if the computer was off for a period of time, usually about 5-10 minutes minimum, it would start up with no problems. I thought it might be overheating except for two things:
1) Once windows started up, I had no issues. No matter how much processing power I was using, it didn't bluescreen or even try to turn itself off
2) When I rebooted in safe mode and looked at what modules it was loading, it always failed after the same one (CLASSPNP.SYS)
I had heard that there were occasionally some significant driver issues with my hardware, so I did a clean re-install of Windows (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit), hoping that this would rule that out.
The issue persisted, and in fact would interfere with a Windows install disk booting into the installer. After I got the installation to complete, the previous issue continued to be present.
I did some Google searching and found that the BSOD error code c000021a is generally caused by a driver or security issue, and the usual solutions suggested are to try to use the "Last Known Good Configuration Option" for windows startup, and to update drivers. However, neither of these things have worked, as it still does this on a fresh Windows install.
I also tried running without the battery (AC power only) and without the AC power (battery only), and neither has fixed the issue.
(Side note: This was originally happening with the original 320GB hard disk that came in the machine. I was going to upgrade to an SSD anyway, and this problem has persisted with the new drive).

After a having it sit around in bits, I've just put a new power connector on the motherboard of my Dell XPS Gen 2 as it was rather wobbly, put the laptop back together as per the dell service manual, but now that I have done so, loads of weird things have happened.
On turning it on, the screen went blank white, so i turned it off. I turned it back on and then needed to change the settings, then I had a message saying that I had an incorrect battery in and I would have to press F1 to shut down. I restarted, let unplugged the mains let the laptop get past the bios screen at the beginning, then plugged it in and got to the Windows screen.
The problem is that once in Windows, I had what looked like a disturbance across the screen, followed by the laptop crashing.
Everytime I have started the laptop, the same thing has happened, so could someone suggest how to fix this one?

my computer isXPS M1530 with GeForce 8600m gt. When I play a game named Gunz, which is supposed to not be a graphic-intensive game, my pc will simply go black after a certain time(vary between 10 min - hours). Then, the sound of pc just stop.
I thought this is a overheating problem, but after viewing some threads about overheating, it seems like that overheat only lead to a shut down or a restart. Since my computer simply go black and turn off, I don't know if my pc is overheating. Can someone tell me if Im overheating? If not, what's causing these crashes?
Btw, my GPU and ACPI temp were around 83C five min before my computer crashes...

Ever since I installed Windows 7, every time I try running a game that I could play just fine before installing Windows 7, such as Rome: Total War, my computer crashes when I actually start playing the game (as in I can see the map and I tell one dude to move and then the game crashes).
When I say it crashes I mean that the screen turns black but the computer is still running and the fan is on and whatnot, but I am unable to make the computer do anything and I have no choice but to hold down the power button to manually shut off the computer.

I'm running a 7800 GTX with 84.69 DELL drivers and I get lots of nasty crashes in UT3 and other Unreal Engine 3 games like Frontlines:FOW. Sometimes its just a crash to desktop saying the application needs to be closed, others it says the video driver stopped responding and sets my desktop to 320x240x8-bit. Still other times I get the infamous nvdisp.dll BSOD.
I haven't yet replicated the crashes on newer drivers but that opens a whole other can of worms (freezing/hitching in-game, hangs on startup, worse performance).

I try and paste large amounts of text (several pages worth) into a new word document, and it crashes, saying problem was with DEP security.
I try and turn that off for works and it won't let me.
I talked w/Dell tech support and they had said to uninstall and reinstall. Which didn't work.
Which they then advised to call a different department at Dell, something more associated with software issues...

I have an i9300 with a pinmodded 1.7- 2.26 processor, Nvidia 7800 GTX running stock clocks, and a 2 gb of aftermarket ram.
I have recently started to have the laptop crash on me while gaming. The computer boots fine, but after 15-20 minutes of playing Command and Conquer 3, i received a blue screen of death:
" A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
Some more stuff about removing new hardware, trying new drivers, contacting system administrator, blah blah
Technical Information
***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc00000005, 0x8054AB1A, 0xB62FC424, 0x00000000)
beginnging dump of physical memory
physical memory dump complete"
the computer restarted fine after that, but the computer crashed again after starting windows with that same blue screen error message, but with the the technical information different:
***STOP: 0x0000007F, (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
the computer booted again after that, but went through the full POST sequence.
Once the computer booted to windows normally, i ran ATI tool, and received the blue screen again roughly 17 minutes into the scan for artifacts test. No artifacts were detected at all. I have not yet run prime95 to test for processor stability
The computer booted fine after that, running through the normal shortened POST. It booted to windows fine and where im typing this post.
Some more information:
The 7800GTX was purchased used from a forum member. I previously overclocked the card to 440core and 1250 mem. I kept the overclock for a week or so, but noticed no differences when playing C&C 3 (the only game I play). I also applied ZALMAN's Super Thermal Grease to the card (reviews say it works as well as artic silver 5). I then dropped the clocks back to stock. That was roughly two weeks ago.
The 1.7-2.26 pinmod was not stable at stock voltages. The voltage was increased via pinmod, but I can't remember the exact amount. Two jumper wires were used in the volt mod however.
At idle, the processor reports a temperature of ~35 degrees. The 7800 idles around ~55. Underload, the processor jumps to around ~65 degrees. The 7800 was at 77 degrees when the computer crashed running ATItool.
I am currently using the XPS2 BIOS A05 and the laptop2go 92.91 nVidia drivers.

I've reformatted the drive twice, to factory condition to get a clean start, but I still get the crashes.
I've only recently discovered that it seems to only happen when I unplug it, and run on batteries.

Recently I've had this issue where the sound driver dies, usually freezing any sound-using programs with it. For example, if I view a Flash video on Firefox or IE8, the flash plugin causes kills the sound driver and the browser locks up. Skype will kill the sound driver too.
So will plugging in my USB microphone or sometimes my HDMI cable to my TV (I watch instant Netflix on it).
Once the sound driver crashes, I can't get any sound from programs like Winamp and even the Windows logoff has to be bypassed because it can't play the logoff sound. The internet is all but unusable unless I disable flash (because any flash page will crash it)
