Lenovo X1 Carbon X Series ThinkPad :: Dock Shorten Battery Life?
Mar 20, 2014Since I'm using LAN internet, My X1 Carbon is always connected to ThinkPad Dock at home use. In addition to connect the internet, the Dock is always charging my battery. AFAIK, the battery life will be shorten if it's always charged/plugged. Its better to work on battery after 100% charged and return to charge if asked to.
I just worried, is connecting to ThinkPad Dock after 100% fully charged can shorten X1 Battery Life?
Lenovo X / Helix Tablet :: Keyboard Dock Fan Error
Jun 3, 2013I just had this message while rebooting:
"Keyboard Dock Fan error. Press Esc to continue."
This is an error I have never had before. As for now, the Helix is working. I had to reset the dock using a paper clip. Before the error message appeared, I had used the Helix as a tablet. After switching back to the keyboard, batteries stopped charging and the keyboard was not recognized.
Rolling back to the previous firmware update, if this is possible at all? In any case, I had rather not wait for another release.
As far as my personal USB problems are concerned, the Bios update 1.23 was the quantum leap. With the new firmware update I could not see any improvements on this side either.
I do have to add that my average CPU temperature is now suspiciously higher, even if it is only a few points.

Feb 13, 2014Have had my Helix for just two days and this morning I got a 'Keyboard Dock Fan error'. I have updated all software including BIOS updates, so before I return my laptop to the reseller, my question is, is there anything I can do since I assume this is a hardware fault ?

The battery light contrantly flashes on the Battery five or Six solid blue lights - Then three flashing lights.In addition, the Light on the Computer ( ) and the desk top icon for the power adaptor cord /battery says" Plugged in - Not charging".I ran the Dell Diagnostics (Fn key at bootup) but it found no problems.is the battery dead?

Jul 2, 2009I've run into this issue twice already... once on 1 computer and another on this same one. It's the one where the battery is not recognized and there is an "X" where the battery icon is.
I've done all the Software Updates, Batter Update 1.3, and tried resetting the PRAM. So far none of these have worked. Now I'm out of ideas. Before after going thru those steps, the problem would be fixed... not so this time.
I know they extended the warranty and were replacing the batteries for free, but not sure this one would be covered under that.

Dec 1, 2009Last night I was using my E1705 running on battery when the thing just suddenly zapped off. I had recently glanced at the battery meter which was 75% full. I pressed the button on the actual battery which shows 3 of 5 lights on the charge meter.
The battery itself is only 1 month old and has been performing flawlessly. I just thought it was something random so I plugged the machine in and it started up.
I didn't think anything else of it till today when I went to move my laptop, removed the power cord, and the laptop turned off. I checked the physical battery meter which still reads 3 of 5 lights .....
Dell XPS 15z :: Will Not Boot With Battery Connected - Fine With Battery Removed
May 15, 2013My Dell XPS 15z is showing the following problem :-- if I try to boot it with the battery connected (and AC power either plugged in or not), the orange power light flashes briefly and then the machine shuts down- if I remove the back of the case, disconnect the battery, connect the AC power cable and boot, the system boots as normal
Other observations
- BIOS version is A07, I can not upgrade this to A12 as, when I try to with the battery disconnected it basically tells me I have to have a battery connected to do the upgrade- when I click on the battery status button on the side of the case with the battery connected, one LED lights- when I click on the battery status button on the side of the case with the battery disconnected, no LEDs light
What are the next diagnostic steps?What is the likely fault - could replacing the battery unit solve the problem or is is the component which charges the battery which is likely to be faulty?The laptop is 18 months old but only covered by a one year warranty with Dell.

Jan 30, 2014I would like to ask about the Lenovo Energy Management software bundled with my Z400. Regarding the Energy Management > Battery > "Optimized Battery Health" in particular. When the battery charges until 60%, does it internally disconnect the charger from my battery? The Power icon in the System Tray says "Plugged in, not charging". Or does the software stops the charging until 60%, and when it lowers the software allows it to recharge again? I'm worried about getting my battery worn out immediately, as I leave my charger plugged in most of the time.

May 31, 2013My 2 day old Lenovo Y510P laptop has a problem with charging. I noticed the battery was never going above 60% charged. I left it plugged in for over 24 hours and nothing changed. So I decided to completely drain the battery and used the laptop until it died. With the laptop off I left it plugged in until the battery LED turned white which indicates the battery is fully charged. Unfortunately the battery still shows 60% charged.

my battery had memory effect once and could work for like 15-20 min.but its indicator worked fine at that time.
but now memory effect is gone and i am now facing a new problem.
At full charging, system shows that battery is not connected even it is connected.even if i unplug the AC supply still it thinks that notebook is running from AC supply.During this period i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad.I Can use only externally connected keyboard and mouse.
While notebook is using the laptop battery(Ac Unplugged),after sometime it detects the battery and the indicator shows 7% of battery time.Then my notebook keyboard and touchpad starts to work and then this percentage decreases to 0%. The time between shift of percentage is approx 10 min . Even On 0% the battery works fine and works for like 15 min. Overall Battery can work for like 1 hr 30 min approx(Low Performance).
My main problem is i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad while the battery is fully charged. i have to drain my battery in order to use keyboard and touchpad.

When I put the laptop to sleep, I had a pdf file open along with itunes (paused). I have never used Mac OS, so maybe I not doing something correct. Also, I noticed when I open the lid (after I put the notebook to sleep) it just goes directly back to the desktop as opposed to on windows it prompts to the login screen when waking it up from sleep mode.

Jun 12, 2009I am looking into getting one of the new macbook pro's. Though I must say the non removable battery does concern me a bit. In past laptops I have had, I without a doubt saw increased battery wear and tear when I left the batter in the laptop while the laptop itself was plugged in. I completly destroyed a battery on my Dell laptop by doing this for about a month when it was asking as a desktop. I took the laptop which used to get around 4 hrs of battery life and then after a month it got no more than 15 minutes.
So after that I always took the battery out, so now with the new macbook pro's you cannot take the batteries out, so wont the batteries wear down to nothing faster than if you took them out when not using them?

May 2, 2009It seems that since I updated to Vista and to Window 7 subsequently I can't get the audio to work out of my dock. It works fine out of the side of my laptop.
Any ideas on this? I wouldn't think it is a driver issue as sound does work.

Dec 14, 2008My Dell inspiron 6400 has a battery that works amazingly but recently, I noticed a change in the behaviour. Anytime I switch the laptop on, the LED battery indicator shows me red meaning something is wrong even when the battery is fully charged. The battery charges normally even when I intentionally drain out the power and try charging it again. This is just to make sure that the battery charges fine. Infact, in windows, it shows me that the computer is on AC power even when it is not plugged into an AC outlet.
The BIOS shows "No battery installed" and windows tells me the same. Summarily, everything is fine except for the LED indicator showing Red and the BIOS telling me that no battery is installed.

Jun 12, 2011When I put my X220T in tablet mode, the screen moves just enough to move the pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard to cause the cursor to move. I can't rest my hand on the screen without causing the cursor to move all the way accross the screen.
Am I missing a driver that would disable the nub when the screen is turned over it, or is this a design oversight? I've got the latest BIOS.

May 19, 2010I've just bought and installed a touchscreen into my Dell XPS M1330 !
I'm connecting it by using a usb cable, from the wlan case of my fomputer, so it's not a good solution for me.
I searched the web to find an other usb connexion, inside my computer, and I wanted tu use the USB wires of the WWAN card (I don't have it).
I've used a blank mini pcie card tu solder the usb cables, but I didn't succeed to make it seen by Windows. So, do you know if ther is anything to do to enable the WWAN port ?

However the screen seems to be slightly off center? What I am talking about is inside the "edge to edge glass", the screen (the pixels you see lit up), is just ever so slightly tilted.
The pixels start about a 1mm (or maybe 0.5mm) lower on the top left corner of the screen than the top right.

Dec 7, 2008I have been pondering whether my Studio 1537 came with a LED backlit screen since Dell didn't include a Centrino 2 sticker although all of my laptop hardware meets the req. for Centrino 2. Who knew what else Dell could pull?
I decided to fire up my Studio 1537, Inspiron E1505, and Mini 9 to do a comparison with the LCD backlight on full power with Notepad maximized (lots of white).
The E1505's LCD was about a year old and is CCFL. The Mini 9 and Studio 15 are brand new and both were advertised to have LED backlighting.
The E1505 looked dim and yellow compared to the Studio 15's CRISP white color, while the Mini 9 had an almost purple tint to the white screen. I work with white light a lot and can say the E1505's LG CCFL was around 4000-4300K for color temperature while the Studio 15 was more around 5800K and the Mini 9 at 6200K or slightly higher.
The problem with white LED's is that they have a shorter lifespan (~20,000 hours) compared to red, blue, and green (usually 100,000 hours). This translates to noticeable decrease in white light output after 2.3 years of non-stop 24/7 usage.
Another major difference I observed is that the CCFL at max brightness is equivalent to the LEDs at about 40-50% brightness!
Dell :: Studio 15 Inside Surface Soft?
Mar 7, 2009I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists....
It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish? I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft sticky one.
Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?
Dell :: Studio 17 Beeping Noises From Inside
Jun 18, 2009This is a very strange one , I have a Studio 17, and it has never had any kind of noises coming from the inside, however, in the past few weeks I have been hearing beeps that are coming from inside the laptop not from the speakers. Its a single beep, and does not have a pattern such as beep every 4 or 5 seconds it beeps when it feels like beeping, usually one short beep.
I called Dell, and the tech guy told me that beeping was " normal " and I should not be concerned over it. Can you believe that jerk? "beeping sounds from inside are normal "? I dont think so.
I have tried to think of anything inside this thing that can beep or why I would be getting these beeps and I cant come up with a thing. Originally I thought it was possibly a CMOS battery going bad, but Dell says the battery wont make it beep, then I thought maybe its overheating, but then when I feel the laptop its' barely warm, so Im at a loss.
This beeping is intermittent, it will beep for a while, then stop, then later on or the next day it might beep again for a few hours then stop again.
Anyone have any suggestions on what could beep from inside the laptop? the sound seems to be right near where the hard drives are located if I put my ear to the touchpad area I think thats the area it originates in.

Apr 21, 2009I recently got Mac mini thru Microcenter deal for $399. It is previous generation Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz Mac mini with 1GB RAM + 120GB HDD + Superdirve. It comes with iLife 08. I'm thinking of buying Mac Box set to get ilife 09 + iWork09 (figured this would be cheaper than getting them separate). Does anyone know what comes inside box ? I already have 10.5.6 installed on Mini so dont need that. Will I be able to sell OS X 10.5.6 from Mac Box set and reduce my cost or all comes on one disc and within one package instead of 3 separate boxes withing one box.

i called Dell and after arguing with the rep, he said they will send me a box and i have to ship the Laptop to them for a screen replacement. The rep was saying that this was due because i dropped the laptop and cracked the screen, this is ridiculous because the laptop has been sitting on my desk and never been dropped.
Anyway, i just want to know if they fixed the new screens, because if they don't i can wait because the replacement screen will have to be replaced again in few months..........

Feb 20, 2009I play a video game, and my fps will go from 70-80fps, then just SPIKE to like 2fps and I will get artifacts.. I figured it was a display driver, I've tried probably 20-30 of them now (just random vista 32 bit drivers), all with the same results. When I monitor my task manager I'm using 100% of my CPU Usage, and around 1gig of ram while a game is running. I am trying to figure out 1) what the deal is and 2) how to resolve it...
