Apple :: Battery Battery Is Not Recognized - An "X" Where The Battery Icon Is

Jul 2, 2009

I've run into this issue twice already... once on 1 computer and another on this same one. It's the one where the battery is not recognized and there is an "X" where the battery icon is.

I've done all the Software Updates, Batter Update 1.3, and tried resetting the PRAM. So far none of these have worked. Now I'm out of ideas. Before after going thru those steps, the problem would be fixed... not so this time.

I know they extended the warranty and were replacing the batteries for free, but not sure this one would be covered under that.

Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Battery Icon No Longer Had Plug Icon On Top Showing It Was Charging

Jan 24, 2013

I was using my inspiron 1545 the other night and it was charging the battery, then i heard a pop from the left hand side of the keyboard. At this point i noticed that the battery icon no longer had the plug icon on top showing it was charging. I then looked at my power adapter and noticed the blue light was not on on the brick.

Finding this I unplugged the brick and then plugged it back in..POP from the laptop again....and the blue light on the brick went off again. This happens everytime.

So I am guessing there is something wrong in the laptop and the brick turns off maybe activating its short circuit mode protect. Obviously, this means I can not charge the battery.

If i remove the battery and try to run it on mains adapter it POPs as soon as you plug it in and the laptop won;t boot as it has no power...

Apple :: Put My MBP To Sleep It Had About 30% Battery Left - When Open In Morning Battery Went Down To 13%

May 9, 2010

I just received my MBP 13" yesterday. So far I love it. However, I noticed an issue. Last when I put my MBP to sleep, it had about 30% battery left. However, when I woke up this morning and opened my MBP, the battery went down to 13%.

When I put the laptop to sleep, I had a pdf file open along with itunes (paused). I have never used Mac OS, so maybe I not doing something correct. Also, I noticed when I open the lid (after I put the notebook to sleep) it just goes directly back to the desktop as opposed to on windows it prompts to the login screen when waking it up from sleep mode.

Apple :: Macbook Nonremovable Battery And Battery Wear

Jun 12, 2009

I am looking into getting one of the new macbook pro's. Though I must say the non removable battery does concern me a bit. In past laptops I have had, I without a doubt saw increased battery wear and tear when I left the batter in the laptop while the laptop itself was plugged in. I completly destroyed a battery on my Dell laptop by doing this for about a month when it was asking as a desktop. I took the laptop which used to get around 4 hrs of battery life and then after a month it got no more than 15 minutes.

So after that I always took the battery out, so now with the new macbook pro's you cannot take the batteries out, so wont the batteries wear down to nothing faster than if you took them out when not using them?

Acer Switch 10 :: Battery Icon Keeps Saying 100% Even After Several Hours Of Use?

My battery icon keeps on displaying that my battery is not depleting, which is weird since I've been using my laptop for several hours now and it is still at 100%. When I plug in, it registers that it is plugged in but says fully charged. Not sure if this is a magical always - full battery - or a problem?

I have only had the computer for 5 months. If the battery failed after 2 years yeah that might be acceptable but only 5 months?!?!?! I now cannot use it without plugging it in.

Dell Latitude E5530 :: Battery Not Recognized

Nov 19, 2014

We are having a serious problem with the battery that we replaced for one of the Dell laptops. The Laptop model is Dell Latitude `E5530. We were getting a message that the Battery has to be replaced and we bought this battery from one of the third party vendors.

It ran for 2 weeks and now it comes up with some weird messages. The laptop isn't detecting the battery at all. We had sent the battery back to the vendor but he says the battery works fine at their end.

Dell XPS 13 :: AC Adapter Not Recognized - Battery Not Charging

Jan 28, 2015

All of the sudden the battery stopped charging and the official dell AC Adapter, that shipped with the laptop, is listed as Unknown in the BIOS. I understand this happens because somewhere on the way the info from the pin that (for no good reason) identifies the AC adapter does not reach the charging circuit. This is supposed to be a safety mechanism (that no other manufacturer uses) that is obviously just an attack on off-brand chargers .The laptop is working fine (except for charging) as long as the AC adapter is connected.

What I did so far:

notice I'm out of warranty
try different power outlets
try different AC adapter
Check battery health (it's fine)
replace Power Jack

Dell Inspiron 1520 :: Battery Meter / AC Power Icon Disappeared

Nov 23, 2008

I've noticed that my battery meter/AC power icon has disappeared from my system tray.  I'm not sure how to make it reappear.  I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place.  The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop.  Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon. How do I get it to reappear?  Is the icon part of the Dell Quickset program/software?  I'm not sure.  I have an Inspiron 1520.

the ultrabook as normal. It seems a strange message to get. Ultrabook was purchased direct from Dell about 4 weeks ago, and

Dell Inspiron 1501 :: Battery Not Recognized By System

Jul 15, 2008

Alright I am a long time user of Dell products, and have in the past had problems with them, but they have been easily fixable by either replacement parts or a quick look at a FAQ or messageboard for Info. My INSPIRON 1501 is not recognizing my battery.  The battery is fine (checked it in my brothers computer), and I have checked other people's posts with the same problem and tried the fixes but nothing worked.  I have tried to do the BIOS update (A16) that worked probperly but did not fix the problem.

While watching a movie I got a message telling me that my battery is not recognized.  The battery is stuck at a 97% charge (or so the computer says) and the battery light is not light up (it flashes on sporadically but not consistant at all).  The BIOS did fix the message at startup saying the battery isn't recognized but still if I remove the AC power cord or unplug the computer it powers right down and will not start-up unless plugged in.

Dell Latitude D620 :: Battery Not Recognized By BIOS Or XP Pro

May 26, 2008

I reinstalled my D620 from scratch (ie. formatted the disk) and reinstalled from the Dell supplied XP Pro media CD. I downloaded and installed all the relevant drivers. I have Intel wireless working, the nVidia card working at 1440x900 etc ... However, I can't seem to get the power/battery management to work. The D620 shows its battery light as green when the AC power is plugged in and the physical battery button lights up all the LEDs when pressed when the battery is partially/fully charged but neither the BIOS nor XP Pro recognize the battery.

Similarly, when the AC power is disconnected the battery works fine by itself for x hours but the power cord icon remains in the the taskbar and the battery light on the laptop glows orange as soon as the power is cord is disconnected. The LEDs on the battery itself however light up when the button is pressed on the physical battery. On reboot the BIOS also does not recognize there is a battery present and not does XP Pro.

In other words, everything works as expected of a laptop - except when totally wireless, how much juice/time I have left in the battery - this is fundamental to any portable device.

A few hours prior to the reinstall both XP Pro and the BIOS recognized the battery no problem and worked  accurately and without fault - so I refuse to believe this is a bad battery. Somewhere there must be a driver to enable the BIOS and XP to recognize the battery ?

The battery works and both XP Pro and the BIOS were well aware of its existence prior to the reinstall a couple of hours earlier. All I did was to format the hard drive and initiate a totally fresh install of XP Pro - and installed the drivers downloaded from Dell based on the Service tag of the D620.

Dell Inspiron 5537 :: Battery Icon Says Plugged In But Stopped Charging After Upgrade To 8.1 Pro

Oct 30, 2014

Purchased an upgrade for my Windows license from 8.1 to 8.1 Pro on Sunday in the US (I had done the update to 8.1 from Win 8.0 months ago without issue).  Since that time, my Inspiron 15R (5537, Mid 2013, non-touch screen) has stopped charging...although the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging'.  I am using the OEM charger and battery initially purchased with the laptop.  Currently in Canada (just in case that makes some crazy software difference...plugs/power is the same I think).

I've taken the following steps:

1. I tried battery diagnostics on Dell site.  Said the battery is fine.
2.  Ran full diagnostics at boot on startup.  Those say in Current/High/Low columns:

Primary Battery Charge: 5% (now actually 4%); Primary Battery Health: 86%; Primary Battery Voltage: 11106 mV/11106mV/11106mv; Primary Battery Current Flow: 0mA/0 mA/ 0 mA; AC adapter:  65 watt adapter/na/na

-On separate page, diagnostics continued:

Primary Battery : Charge Cycles=159; Temperature=26C, Voltage=1106mV; Current=0mA; Remaining Capacity=0.271Ah; FullCapacity=5.184Ah; BatteryHealth=86%; ManufactureDate=6/8/2013; Serial Number=b99

Charger: ChargerState=Installed.

3.  Checked and rechecked physical connections, took battery in/out and used alternate plugs (although usual light ring glowing around plug to computer and icon says charging, took it out and replugged into computer, wall, and at the brick, tried various plugs at the hotel and at the office).

4.  From Device Manager, uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

5.  From Power Options, selected alternate power plans and changed plan settings/restored default settings for the plan.

6.  Went to Dell's drivers & downloads.  Downloaded suggested updates to Intel drivers and BIOS.  Installed Intel drivers.

7.  Because power level was under 10%, couldn't install the BIOS update normally.  So I downloaded a program to make a bootable USB drive, made the boot USB, transferred the BIOS update to it, restarted the computer, enabled legacy boot settings to get it to boot to the USB, and flashed the bios out of a DOS prompt with the /forceit command.

8.  Since none of this worked, reran diagnostics (same results, slightly different voltage than the earlier office test, and diagnostic showed the drain when I momentarily pulled the AC cable out of the computer).

9.  Took battery out entirely and restarted computer.  Went back to Device Manager, uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter, shut down computer, pulled out adapter.  Reinstalled battery, replugged AC adapter, restarted computer and both programs reinstalled.

10.  Downloaded, installed and ran iOlo system check software and followed recommendations for other fixes although it found no issues with battery.

None of this has worked.  I've now got a battery at 4% with the icon still showing 'plugged in, charging'.  I don't have an alternate Dell battery and charger to try in the system (hotel doesn't have one, I may try to run to a local electronics store tonight after work to see if I can borrow one).  While this could be a hardware issue, with the timing (issue arose after upgrade, no issues previously) and the battery passing its diagnostics I'm guessing software...maybe...

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: ThinkPad E520 - Battery Icon For Power Management Did Not Work

Feb 27, 2013

I bought 2 of these in oct 2011 for my twins going to college. My daughters has had no problems. The other one died in may 2012 and was repaired under warranty. It died again in November 2012. I was able to get it running by removing the battery and disconnecting the cmos battery and letting it sit for a while.

It happened again, and this time I can't revive it. I want to add that I think there was something wrong when we got it back from repair. The battery icon for the Lenovo power management did not work, but the windows one did. In hindsight I think this had something to do with nvram problem I have since heard so much about.

Dell Studio XPS 1647 :: Battery Not Recognized - Cannot Update BIOS

Feb 21, 2013

When I boot up my PC it comes to a screen expressing that the battery is critically low and the AC Adapter cannot charge properly, press F1 twice to continue.

The computer continues to boot up fine, but is running strictly off AC power.  It boots up the same with or without the battery locked in.  I even bought a used, but guaranteed functional battery and it had the same result.

After researching a lot online I saw a common solution is to update the Bios.   Currently my system has Bios A01, and I have tried updating to A07, A11, and even A00 without luck.  When running the executable in Windows 7, just before it flashes the system with a new bios I get fail message saying operation cannot complete because AC Adapter and battery must be present and functional.

So I found a guide online to create an MS-DOS startup boot drive, along with the Bios .exe's which can be run from MS-DOS.  The system booted up into MS-DOS mode fine, but I received an error running the .exe, "Cannot run in DOS mode". I also tried to run the .exe with the /forceit command afterwards with no luck.

So at this point I don't know if my laptop simply needs a BIOS update, or if I have a faulty motherboard or battery sensor.

Ideally I'd like a solution to upgrade the bios without a battery that works and can resolve my problem.  But if we can't find a solution, I need to know what needs to be fixed so I can repair my laptop through Dell's Out of Warranty Repair service.

Dell Studio 1737 :: Plugged In Not Charging - Battery Is Not Recognized

Oct 22, 2012

My studio 1737 laptop always says its plugged in and not charging. I had the original battery in and on boot up the bios says that the battery is not recognized if I unplug the laptop with that battery in it automatically dies. I also purchased another battery online I get the same error on boot but this battery actually has a charge straight out of the box so the laptop will run if I unplug it. However, the battery will not charge. I also bought a new official dell charger since the after market one gives me an error on boot up. I have also replaced the CMOS battery because I was getting an error on that too and the clock kept resetting.

I currently have the new battery, new official dell charger, and a new CMOS battery installed and the battery still does not charge. What could be causing this?

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 :: Cannot Charge Battery As (not Recognized) After Installing New Mobo

Mar 25, 2013

My wife has an Inspiron Mini 10 which I damaged seeing if I could upgrade the RAM. So I bought another mobo and fitted it in, plugged it in and turned it on. After so long we were told that the battery was running low and wouldn't charge. After it shut down we got the OLOD and have tried using a USB drive to flash the BIOS using HP USB key utility but there wasn't enough power left in the battery to do anything.

Next I bought a new battery which has about 37% on it but we're still getting the OLOD after booting up and down a few times.

From what I can gather from searching the web, I need to flash the BIOS but I can't find a way of doing this as the BIOS files from Dell are .exe and isn't recognised when I boot from the USB stick as it's looking for a .bin file.

It has occurred to us that maybe the drivers (we have Win7 32bit installed) aren't there.

What we should do with the remaining battery power? We don't have enough to experiment.

1/ install drivers?... if so how do we do this without a floppy drive or disc drive?

2/Would a fresh install of Windows fix this problem?

Lenovo Z400 P/Y/Z Series :: When Battery Charges Until 60% / Does It Internally Disconnect Charger From Battery

Jan 30, 2014

I would like to ask about the Lenovo Energy Management software bundled with my Z400. Regarding the Energy Management > Battery > "Optimized Battery Health" in particular. When the battery charges until 60%, does it internally disconnect the charger from my battery? The Power icon in the System Tray says "Plugged in, not charging". Or does the software stops the charging until 60%, and when it lowers the software allows it  to recharge again? I'm worried about getting my battery worn out immediately, as I leave my charger plugged in most of the time.

Acer :: Notebook Dont Detect Battery Even Working On Battery

but now memory effect is gone and i am now facing a new problem.

At full charging, system shows that battery is not connected even it is connected.even if i unplug the AC supply still it thinks that notebook is running from AC supply.During this period i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad.I Can use only externally connected keyboard and mouse.

While notebook is using the laptop battery(Ac Unplugged),after sometime it detects the battery and the indicator shows 7% of battery time. Then my notebook keyboard and touchpad starts to work and then this percentage decreases to 0%. The time between shift of percentage is approx 10 min . Even On 0% the battery works fine and works for like 15 min. Overall Battery can work for like 1 hr 30 min approx(Low Performance).

My main problem is i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad while the battery is fully charged. i have to drain my battery in order to use keyboard and touchpad.

Dell XPS 15z :: Will Not Boot With Battery Connected - Fine With Battery Removed

May 15, 2013

My Dell XPS 15z is showing the following problem :-- if I try to boot it with the battery connected (and AC power either plugged in or not), the orange power light flashes briefly and then the machine shuts down- if I remove the back of the case, disconnect the battery, connect the AC power cable and boot, the system boots as normal

Other observations

- BIOS version is A07, I can not upgrade this to A12 as, when I try to with the battery disconnected it basically tells me I have to have a battery connected to do the upgrade- when I click on the battery status button on the side of the case with the battery connected, one LED lights- when I click on the battery status button on the side of the case with the battery disconnected, no LEDs light

What are the next diagnostic steps? What is the likely fault - could replacing the battery unit solve the problem or is is the component which charges the battery which is likely to be faulty? The laptop is 18 months old but only covered by a one year warranty with Dell.
