I bought my xps like a year ago. I didnt experience any major problems till now.
Recently, my laptop is taking a lot of time to startup. First, when i press the power button, before i get to see the user selection screen i have to wait like for 2 minutes in a black screen. Then it usually takes another minute to get through the Welcome Screen.
After that, it takes like 2-3 minutes before I can begin using my computer. I have checked my start up programs and disabled most of them, but it doesnt seem to do something
My laptop is dell studio 1450.display is broken and drivers corrupted.i use a external moniter. power on button pressed the led's on.but external disply didn't show anythig. How to Run BIOS via external screen?
Last year I replaced my inverter as my screen was dead. I thought it was the lamp as I couldn't see the screen with a flashlight, but it was the inverter and worked fine after that.
At the same time I bought an external monitor to use for the larger size and recently I have been using the computer out and about.
So since I replaced the inverter on startup the screen will be dead most of the time. By the time it gets to XP it will turn on if I press FN and F4 several times. Sometimes I close and open the lid as I mumble obscenities, always entertaining while public. At first I thought it was the external monitor software confusing the computer into thinking it was plugged into an external but I change the screen back to notebook when I take my computer on the go.
If I boot into Ubuntu the screen will be dead during BIOS but once it gets to the log in screen on Linux the screen turns on.
Sometimes the screen will be on right from the get go. I have no problems when it is connected to an external monitor.
I have a problem with my Lenovo G500s 1.1 years (1 year & 1 month). It worked perfectly until last month. It started to freeze. I restarted the computer (btw I was using licenced win8 back then) and then the lenovo logo showed up and it stuck there. I was waiting for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened. I turned it off manually, and then turned it on,it was still frozen. after some trial of startup, it worked normally. After 2 days it happened again. I thought it was the system, so I deleted the windows8 and installed windows8.1 licensed, it worked for a month and then again (last night) it just freezes at startup (lenovo logo shows up). Till now its frozen. I restarted it several times, it didnt work. I also pulled out battery & started on AC power which didnt work too. Obviously, i dont have warranty.
My T400  display works  at BIOS startup but goes black was soon as Windows 7 starts to load..  Video out put  works  and I can see an  UN Backlit  image on the display.   Is there some sort  back light controller /driver that may be broken.
I have a X1 Carbon 3443CTO and it's running fine.Last night everything was ok and I went into the BIOS and changed AHCI to compatibility (don't ask me why, I was doing some testing), then I went "Exit and Save Changes" (at the last page of BIOS). As soon as I press Enter the screen freezed there (as opposed to reboot)Since it hangs there I hold the power button and it shutdown. Then I power it up again, but now, here is the problem:
1) The computer turns ON, keyboard backlight flash on for a second (normal) 2) Screen stays blank (no, it's not the backlight faulty) 3) power light turns ON (normal) 4) no sign of activities pressing any buttons, no beep sound
I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below  these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").  How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.
I can't get into the bios anymore. I updated the bios via the BIOS Update Utility 2.56 and after that I can't see the "press enter to interupt normal startup" message anymore. And therfore can't get into the bios. Windows is still booting normally.Â
Does anyone know if there is another new version of BIOS coming for the M1530's besides the newest A12 version, I could name multiple things that a newer BIOS update could fix.
I just stumbled onto this site and I've been reading posts for hours. I wish I would have found it sooner! I have a M1530, with 3gb ram running Win7 32bit.
So, from what I gather reading that the XPS M1530 will support either 6 or 8 gb of ram, but only with certain Bios versions?
And those would be either A11 or A13, both of which I can't find anywhere. It sounds like Dell removed these from their site so that we wouldn't have this capability.
If this is the only way this is possible, is there someone out there that has a copy of this file? Or is there another way? I currently have A12 installed.!
2 days ago my battery was "plugged in, not charging" so i figured my battery was dead. Since this morning it suddenly won't start at all.
When i turn it on, the power button and bluetooth symbol light up briefly and i can hear the fan running but that's all i get.
Nothing comes up on the screen at all. I've tried plugging it into an external display which also gets nothing. It does this with the power adapter and the >10% battery. What could it be
When I first loaded up my Vaio the Startup Assistant booted by itself and I unchecked the box to stop booting on startup. After the while the Startup Assistant started booting up by itself even though the box is still unchecked. I thought by recovering to factory settings and unchecking the box would fix it but it has started booting up again.
I have recently posted about issues I was getting in Fallout 3 and several people have suggested that I use the NVidia Beta Drivers.
I was just wondering what other people's experiances have been with the M1530 and the beta drivers? I have tried to search for answers, but they seem thin at best .....
I've had my Dell XPS M1530 for over a year now and it has been working fine ever since. I've had my laptop hibernated for about a few days now and I haven't really used it until I tried to start it up today to no avail. On pressing the power button, media button lights whirl through, power light comes on and fan comes on but my screen remains absolutely blank.
I've tried restarting and removing the battery.. Not sure what else to try..
Since I updated my bios I have noticed that my fans are pretty much always on high and that the heat coming out the back is a lot hotter than it used to be. Granted, I have been using the computer with my big monitor with the lid closed more now but even when I'm not doing that it's still just as hot. Has anyone else noticed this since the update?
Ive recently had my laptop repaired after it got wet and the replaced the screen and everything, but since i have had it back the FN and brightness buttons do not work, nor does the brightness controls work via BIOS settings, Â also when the laptop goes into sleep mode or the lid is closed, the screen stays on bright white instead of going off. Â
I have a XPS M1530 that has seen very little use but unfortunately won't boot now. Â It is stuck on the bios screen that displays the dell logo - the progress bar on this page only displays about 15% complete and will not progress any further under any circumstances. Â I have performed the diagnostic boot option of holding down the <FN> key before power on and this displays just the caps lock flashing rapidly - the flashing does not halt. Â The other diagnostic lights (scroll and num lock) remain unlit except at the initial boot they flash once as per normal.
As dell has not published the diagnostic codes. The laptop is "as new" if a few years old now and I would like to keep it for sometime to come - the purchase price at the time was ~£1300.  One reason I bought dell was for the after sales care - I understand there have been various issues with this particular series of laptop which is unfortunate but I am hopeful to get it working again at reasonable cost.
This laptop just went out of warranty when the lcd started growing vertical lines(have had 4 screens replaced under warranty for the same thing ) Should i fix it with a new screen and sell it or just part it out?
What is/are the part number(s) for the 16" 1080p RGBLED screen? My Dell order keeps getting some 1080p 15.6" WLED screen ... I'd like to use the part # and get the manager to fix it quickly. Also what is the part # for Bluetooth?
my work pc is a Dell inspiron 1520. it is mounted on Ram stand in my tow truck. the problem i am having is sometimes now when im driving down a bumpy road the backlight goes out.
to get it back on i either have to close the lid and open it, or shut it down and reboot.
i was thinking its the switch that tells the mother board that the lid is closed when its not. Is there any way to disable that switch so the backlight is on permantly
I cracked my dell studio 15 (1535) LCD screen , I have been looking for a replacement screen but I can’t seem to find one. Can they be purchased from dell?
I had a WLED 1440X900 screen and would like a LED back lit screen to replace it. I have checked several places including few sellers on ebay but they don’t seem to have one.
