Dell :: XPS M1530 Startup Problems
Jul 20, 2009
I bought my xps like a year ago. I didnt experience any major problems till now.
Recently, my laptop is taking a lot of time to startup. First, when i press the power button, before i get to see the user selection screen i have to wait like for 2 minutes in a black screen. Then it usually takes another minute to get through the Welcome Screen.
After that, it takes like 2-3 minutes before I can begin using my computer. I have checked my start up programs and disabled most of them, but it doesnt seem to do something

It flies through most of the boot, and then stops when there is about a centimeter left of the progress bar.
There it stays for 15 seconds or more doing presumably nothing. Then I hear the dvd-rom "awakening" before it goes on to boot windows .....

When I first loaded up my Vaio the Startup Assistant booted by itself and I unchecked the box to stop booting on startup. After the while the Startup Assistant started booting up by itself even though the box is still unchecked. I thought by recovering to factory settings and unchecking the box would fix it but it has started booting up again.
how I can get rid of the Vaio software?

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, I think thats the same as an Inspiron E17-- in america (for some reason dell likes to confuse its customers).
My screen goes competely blank after the dell logo and windows logo show up on startup.
Everything works because I can still log into windows and shut it down using shortcuts and all the normal sounds are played, there is just nothing on the screen

I have had my xps now for almost 2 years without a single issue, other than software screwups here and there. Now without any indication I am having a problem with my xps. After POST I get the awesome blue screen stating the usual run CHKDSK blah blah and this little gem:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xBACCB524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I restarted and ran the full diagnostic suite, passed everything just fine. I then checked the HDD by pulling it and putting it in a spare D830. It started up fine. I even put the D830 HDD in the xps to see if anything different would happen; same error.
I took it all apart to check dust and connections, everything looks great.

All you need is ATITool. No nTune no coolbits or anything else. You DO need you unlock your Nvidia BIOS per the instructions "stickied" at the top of this forum. Thats it (aside from ATITool).
Its a simple 2 part process. First open up ATITool and set your "core" and "memory" clocks to your preference. Hit "setclock". Now at the top just below the drop down menu, hit "new" and name the profile "startup" (or anything else as long as you remember). Then hit save. First part done.
Now hit the "settings" button at the bottom left. In the new window that pops up, hit the drop down menu and click on "startup". Check the top box and bring down the drop down menu next to that check mark and click "startup (or whatever you named it). Next, check the second box and hit the drop down menu next to that second box down and click on "registry key".
THAT'S IT!
Again, not sure if this is old news or not, but I thought I'd share this just incase anyone can make use of it!
I am using ATITool 0.26. Here is a link to a download for that, just click the button to the top right.

When I logon to Win7 it hangs at 'welcome' for quite a while, then goes to desktop and has the loading cursor while my desktop icons load, then my antivirus loads.
It isn't crazy slow, it is just a lot slower than my M1530 which was instant. Am I just noticing the difference between my 5400rpm drive and my old 7200rpm drive? Is it a significant difference? I will be poppin in another WD Scorpio Black

I encountered a problem with my Dell Vostro 1400 notebook. When I power it up, it sits at a blank screen. The HDD activity light flashes and all that good stuff, but there is no video.
I decided to try out some of the beep testing with the system and according to this it's my optical drive.............................

Just got a new Dell XPS 1530. Looking for some experience and opinions. Had read about some having a heat issue, seemed like some had it, some didn't, but mostly during heaving use. This is kind of crazy -- the wrist rest area got too warm to type comfortably after being on for an hour with very little more than web browsing, and never cooled off over the next hour until powering down. That is surely a defect. Does one call for a tech or just return it? This is far too expensive of a "toy" to have such a serious problem.
Have others who have experienced the heat issue found this specific symptom, I thought it was more an internal temp issue. And again, this was during very mild computing.
A factor might be that the power cord appears to be 2 incompatible parts -- they do not hitch up firmly together all the way, but rather one part blocks the other from completely connecting. It still allows the battery to charge. In my experience with setting up Dell laptops professionally, these 2 parts should mesh completely and seamlessly. So it looks like we call that in and see what happens. Unless there has been a design change and others have these 2 parts that only kinda fit halfway?

So lately (the last few days, just out of nowhere) I've been starting to have a problem with an XPS m1330. Every now and again the notebook starts Windows
A lot of the times it doesn't go past the welcome screen (after entering the user password etc.)
If it does get past the welcome screen it just is extremely slow for the first 5-7min then, it's normal again .....

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop running Windows7, and it automatically powers off when I login to my computer.
I tried to run Diagnostics but it will not complete as laptop crashes within 30 seconds or so of logging in. As it crashes there is an audible click.
This happens both when the laptop is on AC Power and Battery, and in safe mode or starting normally.

My Inspiron 15R N1510 laptop emits a series of 5 shorts beeps, evenly spaced, on start-up. It repeats this until the startup music plays and then stops. Everything seems to run fine and I ran the diagnostics and it passed all of the tests. I am not sure how to make it stop beeping..

I've had a Vostro for a couple months now and continue to be plagued by slow startup times of 2-3 minutes. Just as a frame of reference, I have 3 systems: a desktop I built, a Latitude E6400 and the Vostro. All have similar specs - a Core2Quad on the desktop, a dual-core Centrino on the Latitude and a Core i5 on the Vostro; each with 4GB RAM. I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the same software on each of the machines - if anything, the Vostro has LESS software on it than the other 2. I downloaded all the drivers directly from this site.
At first I thought the startup time was slow due to a 5400 RPM hard drive, but last night I replaced it with a 7200 RPM (though not a fresh install - I took an image of the existing installation using imagex and applied it to the new drive) and it's still slow to boot. I turned off some programs and services in msconfig and using Revo and CCleaner and still get similar results.
Just now I turned both laptops on simultaneously to make sure I'm not making a big deal out of it (especially since the Vostro goes straight to desktop and the Latitude requires me to enter credentials) and I still got to my Latitude's desktop first - despite having to re-enter the password a couple of times!
I'll note that this is the only time the Vostro feels slow at all. Once I'm in everything runs smoothly and resuming from hibernate is noticeably faster (reasonably so I suppose)....

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I've been having some issues with my E1705 recently. I was just using it for the normal internet browsing/ iTunes playing sort of thing the other day when it up and froze on me. This would happen occasionally, like once a month or so and I generally don't think much of it. However when I rebooted my computer it froze again after about 3-5 minutes after logging onto my user. I run XP still and was able to get enough time in to do a system restore to a few weeks back, but this didn't manage to fix the problem. I can boot it up and run it in Safe Mode for hours with no problems whatsoever. I ran AVG and Windows Defender and neither of them caught anything, and I'm leaning towards it not being a virus, mainly because I hadn't ventured out onto any new or foreign websites within a couple of days of this happening - its not like I was looking at some new site, I was checking my Gmail, Facebook, stocks, etc.
I was wondering if it could possibly be drivers that are causing the problem? I'm not really technically inclined enough to know where or how to look into this. I've exhausted my limited knowledge of easy fixes. I would really rather not clear my HDD and start new, that would be a severe last case scenarior. Just wondering if any folks on here might have some suggestions for me as to diagnose or fix this.

Basically, turned off my computer yesterday, and I turned it back on today, and it opens the dell loading screen, then the vista loading screen, then the screen goes blank, but the light is on but nothing appears on screen,
I also can hear the vista opening music from when the sign in page opens........
also when I boot in safe mode it works perfectly with no problems ??

Dell Inspiron M5010 is not powering up anymore: I get 7 beeps on startup and my screen remains black.
I already read other posts and have removed battery, power buttom for 30 seconds. etc. It didn't work and I have not tried anything else.
One post talked about removing/replace the internal battery and another talked about remove/replace memory.
What is this the logical progression of things I should try before the Big Hammer?

I have a dell 5010 and it went black screen as I was using it. I powered it down by holding the power button and then tried to rebot. The laptop power led goes on, the hard drive led flickers once and the fan goes on but slow. The screen stays black and the laptop does not booth. It then sometimes bleeps times over and over. Is it dead? How can I fix this or at least recover the data in the hard drive?

I've been the ONLY owner of this laptop! So I go to change the info to me but it's still not showing up. Yesterday I went to turn on my laptop to do my homework and it would only power on and beep at me 7 times. My warranty has run out and I can't afford a brand new laptop, but I need something since I'm taking online classes.

I own a Dell Inspiron 1110 which I had since 2009 with no problems. I recently had to use the original Dell system disk to install the win os, and I also used the driver disk to reinstall them. I have been recently using my computer with win 7 Home Premium on it , everything works ok, except that when I turn on the computer to start it I must now select windows 7 to boot the os. Before the machine would automatically show the Dell logo and then startup without me having to select the os. Well I decided to install my Professional win 7 os today. I thought that it would automatically boot to where I needed to only put in my password, but instead it does the same thing as win7 Home Premium it makes me select the os. So my little question is what do I do to get a startup where I do not have to select the os.

My Studio 1555 is not passing post startup. It will pass the Dell splash screen with a lot of beeps that I cannot identify, but afterwards, will get stuck with a black screen and a flashing underscore icon at the top left corner. What are some possible problems/fixes/tests? I'm wondering if its time I bought a new laptop. What are the chances of my hard driving still being okay?

My Dell Inspiron N5110 beeps 5 times for 5 times in a row when I boot up my computer. I ran a system scan everything passed except it said to launch window memory test.
Did that and it also said it passed. I did a code search and have not been able to fing anything with 5 beeps, 5 times in a row.
