Acer :: Delay Between Pressing Fn Button And On-screen Symbol Appearing
Jan 6, 2010I have a problem on my Acer 1810tz - when I press a Function button, such as Fn + F8 = mute/unmute sound, there is a very long delay of up to 3 seconds between pressing the button and seeing the speaker symbol show up on screen.
Acer's Launch Manager program is what displays the on-screen symbols. I have installed the latest version from the Acer website (it is a fresh install of Win7 64bit) found here, version 3.0.02.
When I purchased the laptop the symbols appeared straight away but now, after a fresh install, there is a long delay. All I have installed is chipset/graphics drivers and touchpad drivers.

Feb 22, 2010My 1555 with a T4200 Intel 2.0Ghz, 4 GB mem, intel video, Win 7 32 bit has developed an annoying delay in keyboard response and web site delay in both IE8 and Firefox.
I'm assuming its the onboard video which I am now stuck with since it can't be upgraded.

Mothers computer had been ordered around the 8th of december. orriginally the ship date was before christmas. later that had been extended to the 18th of january and now its nearly into febuary.
Dell :: Free Upgrade For Shipping Delay?
Jan 3, 2010Has anyone had any luck getting dell to upgrade anything because of shipping delay? Or offer discounts?
Specifically, I am thinking about trying to convince them to upgrade my warranty. I ordered a studio 17. the basic warranty is 1 year limited warranty with 1 year return to depot service. This is included in the base price. When I placed my order i upgraded (for $198 CND) to the 2 year limited warranty, with 2 year return to depot service, lojack+ accidental damage service.
I have been given the usual order delayed bullcrap like most of you. But is it possible to use this to get them to upgrade it to the 2 year NBD onsite service, lojack, and accidental? ($80 value over my original 2 year return to depot)
I am going to give it a shot this week when I can manage to find the time to sit on hold for a few hours. I will let you know what comes of it.

Sep 24, 2009A few days ago I noticed that when I pressed the power button to turn on the computer, there was a delay of about five seconds before the computer reacted..
That was weird, I thought, but nothing unbearable. Today when I started up my computer, not only was there a delay, but when it did start up I got the BSOD.
It was only there for a few seconds so I couldn't read much of what it said.............................................

Dell Precision M4700 :: Set Keyboard Backlight Delay To Longer Settings
Dec 24, 2014I have a Dell Precision M4700 and am trying to use the keyboard backlight.
The problem is that even a short pause in typing, the keyboard backlight goes out. (about 5-6 seconds). It does not go on until I hit another key, (which then types that character, which I then have to erase).
Is there a way to set the keyboard backlight delay to a longer setting?

Apr 2, 2010I have the GQ61-420US with the 320M dual processor, IDT sound chip with latest driver, plus updated video driver (etc.) now running Win7 64, and have a strange audio delay problem, first discovered when attempting multi-tracking music. In fact, if I just have the monitoring enabled on the built-in microphone, and tap on the computer there is about a 1/10 sec. delay when it comes out of the speaker. I downloaded a latency checker program mentioned elsewhere on this board, but it doesn't show much of a problem. I don't believe the CPU is overtaxed here, and believe it might be driver-related. I've checked the IDT control panel, which is rather bare-bones, having no settings for effects such as delay that I might have inadvertantly checked.

Jun 20, 2009I have a DV4T running Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit. The problem is that some actions are delayed for 15-30 sec after the machine boots. For example, the network icon in the system tray does not respond, I can't open services or anything else that requires UAC. I can do other non-admin things like run IE or Windows Explorer. About 30 sec or so after boot, all the admin functions start working normally. It seems like something just has a delayed startup.
My machine has always done this. I did it with the factory config, and it still does it after a clean install + latest drivers + all the latest windows updates (and no other software installed).
I tried disabling that service, but it didn't make any difference.
The CPU is not busy during the delay, so it appears that the system is just waiting on some timed event.

Mar 29, 2013I have a inspiron 1710 It has been ok for the most part But the issue that i seem to have and bugs the heck out of me is that when i'm typing and tap the caps lock its like every thing stops and it is a few seconds then the caps lock changes to upper or lower and i have to wait for it to come back on then i can type again But i can not just tap caps and type , BUT if i have a external key board No problem.

So i make a lot of typing errors.
Computer is X240, BIOS is 2.16, every driver is up to date.
Windows is 8 PRO. It does the same with Windows 7 so i think it's a software issue.
Lenovo E420 had that before and problem was fixed by a BIOS update.

Jan 7, 2012I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro. Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader. The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 seconds, during which time another swipe does nothing. Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.
It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.

Dell :: Vostro Screen Wobbled/looseunable To Repair, Now Plastic Around Screen Is Loose
Nov 13, 2008I have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 10 months ago. About 3 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came today and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but still wobbled, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem.
Now yesterday, after he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! Am I just being finicky/picky or should I ask them to fix it?

Jan 30, 2010Hi all, new person here. I did a search on LCD screens but can't find my problem anywhere.
Here's the background and problem:
Vostro 1500 with Chungwha 1280x800 screen that got cracked by my kids. I ordered a replacement screen from a company off Amazon.com that was highly rated. Got the screen and installed it. It is make by Chi Mei. When I powered up the computer I got 8 screens of start up and it was very dim. Once it went past the Windows start up screen everything went black. It would only continue to Windows screen, still showing 8 windows in safe mode. I hooked up the old screen and everything worked fine.
I contacted the company and they air expressed me another screen, which I received yesterday. Hooked it up and got the exact same problem, which leads me to believe it's the Dell that doesn't like it. I will try and attach some photos because I am at a loss.

Jan 24, 2009when i first got this laptop i noticed that the screen was distorted and there was red lines everywhere and the screen was shaking abit. so i contacted dell and they sent me a repair guy to fix it. he fixed it in about 15min by pulling apart the laptop and replugging in the screen. but now its happening again. so i think the thing that plugs in is loose or somethin. so what do u think i should do out of the following options.
1. open it myself and replug it (im a noob and will try remember best what he did)
2. get techinician to come in again (bothersome as i have school)
3. ask dell for a replacement laptop.

Dell :: I9300 Gfx Card Dead - Gives A Black Screen After The Xp Spalsh Screen
Feb 25, 2009I was browsing the internet a day ago and I was on a "COLLEGE" website so i know this is not due to a virus. At this time all of a suden my screen went black.
I powered the laptop off and turned it back on, The Dell logo appeared but the screen was fuzzy and had some "tearing" i dont really know what to call it but it doesnt look right. Kind of like an old VCR playing videos. The screen then whent black after the windows xp splash screen. The laptop still boots to windows but it does not display anything.
I booted into safe mode, everything functions correctly and the way it's supposed to. I then booted into VGA mode same thing everything functions and works the way it is supposed to. I also ran some virus scans just incase, nothing was found.
Whilist in safe mode i changed the resolution down to 800 x 600 and still no luck after booting in regular mode.
In VGA mode i tryed to change resolution and the screen displayed some blue fuzzy lines then whent black.
After this I booted back into safe mode and done severeral diffrent System Restores at diffrent dates. Still no luck
After going through all this I am assuming this is a GFX card problem. The laptop is about 3 years old and ive played games pretty hard on it ever since. The card has defenitly gone through some some stress. Can anyone confirm this?
I know that the i9300 sells for about 400 working, and i checked on ebay for a card that is a whopping 180 bucks. Id just assume buy a new laptop. Then sell the i9300 laptop for parts because everything else works fine. Or maybe buy the card swich it out and sell it for a price. Maybe there is a way to fix it i dont know. can anyone help?
Lastly, i thought i would add that when i check the bios the card is recognized and it displays all the correct info for the card. IS there a way to tell for 100% that the card is bad?

Dell :: Ghosting Screen Or Lower Resulotion Screen
Sep 5, 2009If you had the choice to choose either a Screen that has yellow ghosting, or a screen that has a lower resolution - which one would u go for?
Well I ordered a dell notebook with a 720p screen I believe that would be somewhere around 1330 x 780 - however I got a notebook with a 1600x900 screen.
The screen however has quite some yellow ghosting, which I can see for example when my charackter heals herself in oblivion. Or during fast youtube videos - especially changes between black and white, the white will have a yellow ghost following it..
Anyways, I believe if I want to get it replaced they will but the 720p screen inside.
So what are your recommendations? the ghosting is quite annoying..
would I notice a huge difference between the old and the new resolution?
