I heve T9500 penryn processor with 2,60 GHz and the CPU-Z is showing sometimes 13.5x multiplier =2.7GHz (without any undervolting software or lite that)
The RMclock showing 14x multiplier like IDA and CPUgenie only 13x multiplier
what that means, Is it possible to have 2, 7 when it is only 2, 6 GHz?
Finally put Windows 7 x64 on the other day and I didn't notice at first but after a few weeks I started realizing the thing just isn't as fast for normal tasks as it used to be.
I remember I used to run speedswitch for XP back in the day and it maxed my CPU clock all the time. It obviously doesn't work for 7x64. So I loaded up CPUZID to check things out.
Basically the key reading is:
Current MHZ: 1595.54 Current Multiplier: 8x Original MHZ: 2000 Origina Multiplier: 10x
My Envy has the i7-720QM processor. I noticed significant reduced performance when running on battery.
RealTemp, Sandra, i7Turbo, Intel turbo boost monitor, cpuid, etc.. all report the multiplier at 7 (~930MHz), and won't move from there no matter what I do on the machine.
The multiplier seems locked/fixed at 7 regardless of load. As soon as it is unplugged it dives to 7.
I've changed the power plan to high performance and set min/max power management to 100%. This made no difference.
Is the BIOS forcing this? I believe 7 is the low frequency multiplier but shouldn't this kick in only is there is no activity (to save power?). If I am doing work, I expect the processor to at least run at the minimum frequency specified.
This behavior has been confirmed now by other members of the forum. Previos BIOS releases (F.05 and F.06) have been tested and showed the same issue.
I attached two screenshots, one the system running on power, and the other one on battery. Both running prime95 small FFTs.
I bought a generic 2 HD sata2 RAID1 enclosure based on the chipset Silicon Image SteelVine 5744. It can be used in USB or eSATA2. This embedded chipset (named SiL5744) is known (understand "claimed") to auto-handle Sata I/II and host sata2 controllers that not support the port multiplier feature. The HD are two Samsung F1 1To. There's no jumper to rollback to SATA 1.5Go on them, you can only do it by flashing the HD's bios, however we don't need to do it as I wrote just before, the SiL5744 supports SATA 3Go natively.
The enclosure works pretty well with USB, but *not* in eSATA : the E6500 freezes/hangs just after the POST step (a potential driver issue with the installed vista 64bits is not the reason then). As soon has I disconnect the eSATA cable, the system recovers and continues as normal.
What I've tried/done so far :
Both E6500's BIOS SATA mode AHCI and IRRT mode were tested, Intel Matrix driver and software was updated to the latest 8.7.0.1007 version (AHCI and IRRT), The SiL5744 chip was upgraded to its latest firmware as well (in case of...)
In order to verify the esata cable, the HDs and the enclosure itself, I succeed to :
- Use the enclosure's RAID1 feature when using the USB connection, I could partition, format, and read/write on the logical volume - directly connect *one* HD (Samsung F1 1To) to the E6500's esata port -(I have a sata2esata cable), Vista installed it and I was able to use it as normal, even the hotswap feature seemed to work fine (I unkindly removed it). I could so test both HD individually this way... On the enclosure hardware side, everything looks fine then.
An IMPORTANT thing : The E6500's ICH8/9-M sata host controller seems to support the Port Multiplier feature *ONLY* on sata port 0 -as a bubble message from the Intel Matrix soft sometimes shows up-, but this is exactly where the internal HD is plugged on the motherboard I found nowhere you can change the internal sata port ID (switch,bios,ect...). I think this is the key of the problem that seems to be a dumb port conflict, because the esata port is in fact the port sata 4 (the DVDRW drive is sata 1, dock's esata is 5 for instance). If somebody knows how to swap the sata port ID, I think I won't be toasted !
I have a latitude e5510 that is being forced back into service. I have received support here in updating the bios from A-4 to A16.
But my problem still exists. Any USB thumb drive or larger powered usb devices are not showing in Windows Explorer. The Power is getting to the device but not visible in Explorer.
Just recieved my haswell xps 12 yesterday, overall the machine is great, but I have one outstanding issue that has just made me call dell support to return it . The battery life is showing as only holding 75% of it's design capacity in the my dell software and widows 8 battery report. As battery life is one of the major reasons I'm upgrading, I don't think I can put up with the battery being so degraded at this stage, and I'm not getting anywhere near the stated time in the various reviews.
I recently purchased a Hitachi 7k200 200GB hard drive and used the trial version of Acronis True Image to transfer the image of my old drive to the new one. It all seemed to work fine, but today I was going to use GParted liveCD to delete my Vista partition, and saw that the drive only showed a size of 110GB. It had been showing 186GB before today. I checked the size on Acronis, and it said the size was 110GB as well.
why it is doing this? 70GB of unallocated space can't just disappear. How can I get my system to recognize the full size of the drive again?
I was messing around some this morning with reinstalling Dell's Media Direct, could that have caused it?
I'm trying to install Windows 8 in my DELL Inspiron 1525. But, it doesn't showing HDD on boot timing. Due to some corruption, my previous HDD is not working.. Did i have to update any HDD Driver.. if yes, so how could to i update on BIOS..???
I am having dell inspiron 1545...was working fine until last week when problem with screen started.
Whenever I try to turn on my laptop, it shows me dell logo and then it goes black... booting process is still on..and if you see screen in bright light you can see the process..
Now initially i thought that i need to replace my screen but it is showing dell logo so i am pretty sure that screen works fine, now my laptop does have the problem of overheating. is that is a problem????
and my laptop screen attachment to main body is not perfect too.
i'm having another issue now with my MBP. The DVD Drive isn't showing up in windows or in osx. The drive is physically working because i put in a DVD but now it's stuck. When i press the eject button in osx nothing happens. I don't even see a option for a d: drive in windows.
In the past we've restrict the boot options on our laptops vis bios sequence to prevent unauthorised reimaging of machines. However I've just noticed our newest Latitude e6230 still list all the devices as available despite these settings. Screenshots attached.
I have a DELL XPS 15 L521X, (Mid 2012), I have Windows 8 on my machine, Suddenly when I restart my PC a black screen is visible without any error, but system continue beeping. Then I press Power button and shutdown it, after some time when I start it again, its start working normally.
Once system starts its start working without showing any hardware or software problem whenever I shutdown or restart, sometime its start working sometime its continue beeping without showing any error.
I am new in Windows 8 and i wanted to install either fedora or Ubuntu 12.10 in WIndows 8 64 bit. However, under Advanced options in the General settings, i don't see the UEFI settings tile which shows the UEFI firmware settings so that i can disable secure boot. What should I do, or which other way should I do so as I can be able to dual boot?
I have recently upgraded my Studio 1735 from Vista 32 to Windows 7 64bit. All has been fine for a couple of months, but suddenly when the machine hibernates it reboots showing dell media centre. How I get my machine to hibernate properly?
I lost wi-fi internet on my Inspiron 1545, running Vista (6 or so years old). The network adapter was showing up as not installed or not working. I tried returning to earlier restore point. No good. System restore no good. Finally I reinstalled the Vista OS from disk that came with the laptop. But still no network adapter showing in Device Manager. When I insert Resource CD, the WLAN mini-cards are showing up as installed on the system, but no sign of them listed in Device Manager.
So my question is: how do I install the network adapter, or get the system to recognize it if it's there? There is nothing on the resource CD called "network adapter" to install, and I don't see anything like that to download here on the Dell site. Any thoughts?
Oh, I ran the system diagnostics on the Resource CD. In addition to the battery needing replacing (which I already knew) I got the following:
Error code 4400:011A
Msg: SCSI-0-000_DISK_GENERIC_MULTI-CARD-Target not ready
Recently my Dell Inspiron 1545 screen is showing green patches. They are only increasing day by day and after rubbing the screen they disappear for some time before appearing again. I tried some software solutions like pixelhealer etc but no use.
Is there any other way to eliminate dead pixels? How much the hardware replacement will cost ?
Just purchased an Inspiron 15 laptop with Windows 8. I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files. (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E. When I click on disk E and go to documents, the only documents shown are three that are saved on the new laptop, and none of the hundreds of documents saved on the hdd from the old computer. What I can do?
When I checked the battery status window in DELL Latitude E7240, I found 2 battery,Battery #1 it charged to 100% without any problem but Battery #2 is "not present",if there external battery available for this model or not? and if not, Why the battery status window showing two batteries in the settings?
I have installed windows 8 on my dell inpiron n5110 but as it has a lot of bugs, i have uninstalled Windows 8. Now i am reinstalling Windows 7 in it but it is not working properly.
I tried installing Windows 7 several times but each time when Windows 7 installation finishes, system restarts and shows following blue screen.
Windows 7 is not moving further. Each time when i restarts computer, Windows splash screen (Windows Logo Screen) shows and then moves to error screen.
Got an Inspiron n5050 in December 2011 and it worked fine until it decided to shut down and I manually turned it back on and it stopped at the screen showing the patents and won't progress past that, I've tried manually force starting from hard drive and also doing a diagnostics run and it reported that no problems were found.
I have the latest drivers, freshly installed, but when I scan again the system, it says I need to install these (see image). I download them, I install, I reboot... and still uninstalled.
And I won't be happy with something like "don't worry, if your system is working, just ignore them". Because if that is the case, then for sure I can expect more things not taken care of, from Dell.
