Bright usable screen on mains power but when the power lead is removed the screen goes so dim you can hardly see it.Battery indicator shows fully charged. No difference when fn and f10 or f9 used.
my HP ProBook 450 lowers the brightness when its on a light screen (say the website background is white, it darkens the brightness) because white screens dont need the brightness ...and vice versa, it brightens the screen when its on a dark page.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy T530 (a month old) is driving me crazy with this issue: Depending on which application is in the foreground, it will dim/undim the built-in screen (1600x900 version). I have turned off adaptive screen brightness in the power options, and I've turned off Film Mode Detection and Adaptive Contrast Enhancement in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, but this "feature" won't go away.
How in the world can I get the screen to be on 100% brightness, unless I manually change it?
Whenever I unplug my laptop from external power, the screen considerably dims and the taskbar turns white over it's usual blueish black. I've gone into the power settings and changed them so that brightness is 100% when unplugged, but to no avail. According to my computer it's at maximum brightness when unplugged but it's obviously not. Trying to increase the brightness by the sun key or pressing Fn up doesn't work either. Tried to go into BIOS via F2 but couldn't find a video or brightness option.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is an Aspire V3-571-6447 with windows 8.1 os.For the past month or so it starts beeping and then the screen goes dim and then it beeps and brightens up again. This might go on for 3 or 4 minutes and then it stops. Is this an indication of a problem? It doesn't seem normal to me and from what research I have done it seems that beeping is not a good thing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my Hp dv7 notebook for a few months now and have had no problems. But all of a sudden, I turn on the computer and see nothng but a blank, black screen. I do not know if I changed the display settings or what, but I cannot see anything. I know the computer is functioning because the fan turns on and the keyboard lights work. When I connected my laptop to an external monitor, I was able to see that my computer was on and fully functional. In fact, I am using it right now on an external monitor to type this message.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 3.3 year old HDX 16T-1000 CTO Premium Notebook PC's display no longer functions. Upon cold boot, the display nearly always comes on but flickers at about 1/2 brightness. If I twist the display, sometimes I can get it to come on at full brightness. Upon letting go though, the display goes black. The only way I can get it to turn back on is to put the notebook to sleep and then wake it up. The display comes back on for about 2 seconds (mostly at 1/2 brightness) and then goes black again.
I do get a normal display when I connect to an HDTV via the HDMI output. HP's techs had me download and reinstall the chipset, NIVIDIA video driver and BIOS software. This made no difference whatsoever.
Since I can get the display to turn on intermittently, could the problem be just a worn video cable or something more serious?

The problem: I use an external monitor, so my laptop is usually shut. Randomly, my touch screen THINKS something is touching it, which disrupts whatever I'm doing. I would like to disable the touch screen completely, as I do not use it at all.
I thought maybe the latch wasn't closing properly, but the screen resolution changes when I shut the laptop, so it KNOWS it's closed and switches to the proper resolution for my external monitor, but it DOES NOT disactivate the touch screen, and some dirt or something is touching it, changing where my mouse is pointed, where I am typing, etc.
I have tried cleaning the screen and keyboard with compressed air.
The problem happens randomly; sometimes when I CAD for the day, sometimes after hours of working.

Found and attempted to apply Win64_153318.exe on Intel Graphics website for my Intel 4000 Graphics hardware. This failed to install, with error message that it is not for my system (It was clearly marked Intel 64 bit, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.
Also found on HP Envy drivers, SP63750.exe, Version 10.18.10.3304, dated November 8, 2013. Made no noticeable change.
In some cases, I could get the color acceptable for one mode (Viewing JPG file), but unacceptable for screen display. I tried the high contrast mode, but made the screen really hard to follow with all those text boxes, like looking at a brick wall.
If I look at the same files with my (Win 7 Updated) Netbook mini 1101, all the graphics are really normal color and contrast. (Maybe the drivers got messed up when I had sent it on for repair to the HDD/MoBo). I haven't tried a total reset yet, it's always such a pain to do a master reset to see it is a hardware failing or not.
How to get my colors and contrast back to normal????
Whenever I am charging my laptop and using it, the screen lights up to the highest brightness (I keep it pretty low most of the time). This often leads to my mouse freezing, and then I have to shut off my laptop completely. I'm using a HP 2000 Notebook PC, with Windows 8.1 64-bit.

My x220 is driving me crazy these days. Some days ago I experienced very strange behavior of my system. I was just using the notebook as always as it started to stutter.
With stuttering I mean everything is working for 1-2 seconds then is stuck for 1-2 seconds, working, stuck, working so on so forth.
With everything I mean the mouse movement, hard disk load, graphics movement, audio, everything simultaneously. This problem does show up not only if Windows is up but also when Windows is booting or if I start a live linux distribution.
I also noticed that sometimes when I'm moving around the ultranav trackpoint the cursor jumps to one display edge and opens a context window as if I had pressed the right mouse button.
What I did so far:
Reboot my system several times.
Checked Task-Manager: nothing out of the ordinary
Reset BIOS to factory settings
Updated everything to newest stuff
Started a live Linux distribution instead of Windows 7
Decrypted my system (TrueCrypt)
Deactivated Power Management/SpeedStep via BIOS settings
Switched to Single-Core processing via BIOS settings
Swapping RAM from 2x8GB CORSAIR to 2x4GB KINGSTON
Swapped SSD with original HDD
Try booting windows in safe mode
I'm almost at a point to say this can't be a software issue and that it is something mainboard/CPU/GPU related, but I want to be certain before contacting the support.
Another thing I noticed: The stuttering starts exactly when the windows logo shows up and the screen automatically dimmes itself while starting windows. Something is happening in that moment. I may need to add that I did not install anything prior to the current situation. That does support the hardware relation.

I got this Notebook a couple of months ago at The Source in Alberta Canada. Worked fine for a week or so and then the touch screen began to stop working intermittently. Once or twice it seemed that cleaning the (not dirty) screen worked but not anymore. It has just stopped working completely for the past month or so. I've tried glass cleaner on a napkin and on a microfiber cloth..all the way to the edges and nothing. I've run all the troubleshooters, driver updates...everything is up to date and working properly or so they say.

Clues i have:
1. I remember back when i just got the laptop, it would always flicker in the exact same way when a charger was plugged in that was too weak (power out let too low message) and changing the charger always fixed it.
Now i still have the same charger (i have 3 hp and 1 dell chargers at home that fit my laptop) and none of them seems to be ''enough'' (60w x2 65w x1 and 120w x1).
2. Another funny thing is that when i uninstalled my Ati Radeon HD5850 drivers completely, there was no flickering, but obviously, i need to have that as i use this laptop strictly for games)
3. The screen refresh rate is 60hz and not possible to change,.
4. There is NO flickering on an external screen (tried two tvs, both didn't clicker a bit)
5. You might say it's a hardware problem, but i actually somehow got it to work without the flickering earlier tonight and stayed up all night playing and it didn't cause me any issues. It was working great.
6. Occasionally the PC will freeze (could that be a battery problem? since i currently am not using one as both mine are broken and i'm waiting for a new one to ship)
7. I have had 2 blue screens of death recently. One while installing ATI drivers and other i don't remember.

Im a ENVY 17-j092nr Notebook PC (windows 8.1) pc user with all drivers and OS updates working fine, nevertheless sometimes im getting an annoying error that makes windows vibrate like crazy, the problem is a little odd to explain, it makes the BAR on explorer.exe folder flick and other "content frames" from several software, on Firefox for instance the upper bar which is orange start flicking useless, or in vlc it flicks the same, and then the worst on the windows log screen, that makes my picture flicks fast from the left to the middle several times per second, making impossible to write any password and its especially annoying when simple pass stop working.
Thing that i tried:
-Changing mouse and installing video, display, mouse and other drivers besides updating them.
-Using Windows build and external software fix and repair utilities.
-Updating OS (Why? dk but i was trying alternatives).
-Disconnection electricity when this happens didn't work.
-Cleaning fan and avoiding any external particle on mouse laser.
i am using acer aspire 5600 xp/vista and LION battery.
my battery had memory effect once and could work for like 15-20 min.but its indicator worked fine at that time.
but now memory effect is gone and i am now facing a new problem.
At full charging, system shows that battery is not connected even it is connected.even if i unplug the AC supply still it thinks that notebook is running from AC supply.During this period i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad.I Can use only externally connected keyboard and mouse.
While notebook is using the laptop battery(Ac Unplugged),after sometime it detects the battery and the indicator shows 7% of battery time.Then my notebook keyboard and touchpad starts to work and then this percentage decreases to 0%. The time between shift of percentage is approx 10 min . Even On 0% the battery works fine and works for like 15 min. Overall Battery can work for like 1 hr 30 min approx(Low Performance).
My main problem is i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad while the battery is fully charged. i have to drain my battery in order to use keyboard and touchpad.
I was interested in buying the Dv7t labtop within the next few months but was wondering what screen is better.Do I get the BrightView or Brightview Infinity Widescreen Display.

I have a HP Notebook 2000, with Windows 8.1. At some point, the hdmi output to monitor stopped sending an audio signal. The video signal is fine.
It is labeled in Device Manager: 1-STD HDMI TV (AMD High Definition Audio)
The monitor and hdmi cable work fine with other computers. I have disabled/enabled the HDMI device, and also updated drivers (Windows says my drivers are up to date).
