HP/Compaq :: DV2000T Screen- Overexposed, Pixelated

Jul 9, 2009

I ran into a screen problem on my 2.5 years old HP DV2000t laptop. At first, upon powering up one day, the screen went very dim, barely visible. Upon restarting the computer a couple of times, the light came back on (somehow) but the colors are now very odd: overexposed and washed out and with pixels visible throughout, like on older TV screens. The problem seems related to hardware, as tapping the screen changes the lighting slightly, either a tad darker or lighter. When the screen was dim, I was inclined to think that a backlight lamp needed to be replaced, but not now with the light back on. Can the problem be due to the malfunctioning inverter board? Other possibilities and solutions?

HP/Compaq :: Can't Get In Or Out Of STANDBY With Dv2000t

Running Win XP on dv2000t. The Windows shutdown menu has 3 options which are RESTART, TURN OFF and STANDBY. When I click STANDBY the computer appears to turn off. I can't get it to turn back on except by restarting with the power button. Is there some special key combination I need to know? Apparently the computer shuts off when I click STANDBY.

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv2000t Just Died

Mar 20, 2009

So I came home today to find that my beloved HP dv2108tx that worked perfectly well last night just died on me. When I turned it on, the power did run but only gave a blank black screen and emitted 3 screeches after that (1 long one followed by 2 short ones).

I got so nervous because there's so much valuable information in my hard drive. And so I googled and googled and surprisingly found out that about a million other HP users out there also faced this same problem as I did. In fact, I should consider myself lucky that mine lasted as long as 2 years and 3 months.

A few websites I found suggested replacing the Mainboard e.g
[url]
[url]

The problem is, this could very well cost me $300-$400 and based on previous posts, it seems that this mainboard replacement might not be long-lasting.

what I should do?

1) Invest on a new mainboard...and hope for the best that this time it willl last for another 2-3 years

2) figure out a way to fix this myself without replacing the mainboard --- is there a way?

3) Just throw away this laptop, forget about it, and curse HP forever

Either way, I will need a way to retrieve important information from my harddrive asap.

HP/Compaq :: Win XP Can't Find Network Card On Dv2000t

Feb 27, 2009

My dv2000t came with Vista installed but Vista is now broken and gone and I want to install WinXP instead. I installed XP but XP cant find any network adapter on the laptop. I have an ethernet cable plugged in to the laptop. Prior to this there was no problem connecting to the internet with this machine. Win XP can't find the network adapter therefore I can't use the internet at all. Since this dv2000t came with Vista installed maybe the network adapter requires something not available in XP therefore you can only use it with Vista loaded.

why XP can't find any network adapter on this dv2000t?

HP/Compaq :: WinXP Drivers For My Pavillion Dv2000t

Feb 27, 2009

This dv2000t came with Vista installed but Vista is now broken and erased. I installed WinXP in place of Vista and I notice many of the hardware devices show yellow question mark icons in Windows device manager. The yellow question mark means no driver is installed for the device. I went to the HP driver download page (using a different computer because no network driver for the dv2000t) and I found MANY drivers for dv2000t hardware devices for which I have no driver. I can't tell which specific drivers I need. For example there are drivers for more than one type of network adapter but I don't know which adapter is in my dv2000t. Also the same situation for other hardware devices with missing drivers: the HP site has multiple drivers available and I don't know which one I need. OK

OK there is a service tag on the dv2000t which says:
SERIAL #: 2CE71317GD
PART #: RM669AV

HP/Compaq :: Evo N620c: LCD Screen

May 21, 2009

I initially thought that I was experiencing the typical flickering-to-a-faint-screen shot inverter issue, but 3 inverters later and also 2 LCD replacement panels later (managed to come around multiple panels and inverters known to be working), the flickering-to-no-backlight problem persists. No matter which combination of panel/inverter I connect to the unit, the inverters are buzzing. (Hooking the unit to an external monitor works perfectly still at least.)

Since the LCD has to draw current from the motherboard, is it possible that the motherboard has some kind of problem sending current to the screen or something that's causing all the malfunctioning or even killing all the inverters I had?

HP/Compaq :: Screen- Nx6125

Jul 27, 2009

screen problem on a Compaq nx6125.

Some time ago I was helping a friend troubleshoot her laptop which, among other things, wouldn't display anything on the screen. One of the things I tried was to take the display cable from her laptop's motherboard and connect it directly to my nx6125's screen. A bad idea, as it turns out, because after that my Compaq's screen appeared dead as well. Only the backlight still worked, so the screen was entirely light grey-ish when the laptop was turned on.

Hence question one: can something like that kill a laptop screen?

Anyway, I tried a few things to try and isolate the problem on my Compaq. Connecting an external monitor via VGA showed that the video card was fine, as the picture showed up on the external monitor. I also tried taking another old laptop I have and connecting its screen to my Compaq's display cable. Not smart, yes, considering that's how I busted my Compaq in the first place, but that other laptop is basically a brick anyway, with a non-working screen backlight among other things, and I mostly use it for parts. Anyway, the screen showed a faint picture, which leads me to conclude that the display cable on my Compaq is fine and that it is indeed the screen itself that's busted.
Question two: is there anything else I could check, or any repairs to attempt, before springing for a new screen on eBay?

Speaking of a new screen, there are two different ones available on eBay for the nx6125 - XGA and SXGA+. The laptop originally came with an XGA screen, and I wouldn't mind upgrading to SXGA+ while I'm at it, but I want to be sure the screen is 100% compatible.
So question three: are the screens availble on eBay in general, and the SXGA+ screens in particular, a 100% fit for my nx6125?

HP/Compaq :: Infinity Screen

Feb 4, 2010

If you buy a notebook from HP with this screen option, can one be assured that the physical LED panel is free of fingerprints, dust, lint etc before it was closed off with the "infinity" cover?

I've read some bad reviews about this design and a lot of people are complaining about dust, lint, etc somehow getting inside between the LED panel and the "infinity" panel. Also I've heard complaints about the keyboard scratching the "infinity" panel when the lid is closed (there is no space between the "infinity" panel and the keys apparently...

I'm not sure which to get, with or without "infinity?" I like the clean look the "infinity" gives but I don't like the regular screen bezel with regards to the webcam...instead of only seeing a small circle with a lense like you do with the "infinity" panel, you see the entire 'housing' of the webcam in the bezel...it looks kinda tacky to me. Also a lot of people have complained about the "infinity" displays being less vibrant, dull and washed out with HUGE glare issues.
