View 6 RepliesI have a new DV5z with the AMD Turion zm-84 and ATI radeon 3450. When I'm running on A/C power and on the high performance mode, the fan runs constantly. When I'm not even using the computer and it's sitting at idle, it still runs! It's loud...louder than a 2008 notebook should be IMO.
Is this a defect? Why won't the fan ever stop running?
Is there anyway i could undervolt my DV5Z so i can squeeze some more battery life out of it I wanna know any software that can support my AMD processor for it
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm considering paying the extra $100 to add in the 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 to the dv5z I'm customizing...
My question is if I add that in does this machine make use of the "Hybrid Crossfire " capabilities and have the integrated and dedicated work together?
I really wanted the dv5t but I guess ya (I) can't a;ways get what I want.
I built this hv5z on hp's site, what do you think about it? Is it good or would I be better off getting a different platform? Like the dv6?
This will just be used for college; email ,internet, homework, watching videos, a couople games like (general's zero hour)---but I'm not too much into gamming at all.

idea to go check out what HP has changed in their laptops recently. Well i looked at the dv5z and behold HP has put in a 512mb radeon 3650. If they can do this for the dv7z i will be saying goodbye to my dv7t.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy last computer was the HP DV5Z, which I LOVED. It was the perfect size, did everything i needed it for, and was an overall great choice.
Unfortunately, 1) My laptop was stolen when my apartment was broken into , and 2) they no longer sell the dv5z on hp.com
Now, I am for sure going to order my laptop from hp.com, so I need to know what you guys would recommend.
I will use my laptop for gaming, research, college, and DVD burning.
I am almost positive I want the slightly bigger dv6z, and thats my main choice.
However, I'm not sure how big of a difference performance in CPU is, if 4 gigs of ram is REALLY worth it over 3gigs of ram, whats the benefit of the wireless-N card over G, and how come all the coupons are used up
I have an dv5z with an HD3650 on order and would like to look thought the motherboard chipset data.
It`s just some thing to do while i count down the days to the 26th feb.
EDIT : does the 3650 have GDDR2 or GDDR3 memory and what speed is it.

I have had a HP dv5z w/ windows Vista Home Premium - 64 bit for two days now.
1) I have a wired USB mouse that I use since the touchpad is terrible. But everytime, I plug in this supposedley plug and play mouse, there is a message that says device driver is being installed and it takes a few moments before the mouse can be recognized. Is this normal?
2) Also, the day i got my laptop, i had to download Windows updates (the automated message on the control panel said so!) and installed them. I am not sure if its related but since then i have re started my laptop 2-3 times and there is a file check process that happens as a part of the start up and then just before the welcome screen comes, i get a message
Step 1 of 3 - Configuring Updates - Do not shut down your computer.
How long is this going to happen and is this normal?
I have HP DV5Z-1000 laptop. The other day my AC adapter stopped working and won't charge my laptop. I know it is the adapter because when I have it plugged into the wall, and not even plugged into the laptop, it beeps.
I got my laptop in the US, but I am currently living in a small town in Canada and can't easily get replacement parts. I am not sure if HP will ship the same adapter to Canada.
My question is, can I buy any old adapter or would I need the same one it came with? If I need to buy a third party adapter what one can i get?
After a clean install of vista on my dv5z, all the drivers have been installed and everything works properly...
one thing i noticed was that the battery manager now says
Balanced
Power Saver
High Performance
instead of
HP Recommended
Power Saver
High Performance...
I was wondering if there is any benefit of having Hp recommended instead of just Balanced, and if there is a driver or fix?
Message that Keyboard Filter driver will not function is obtained during compatibility check during install of Windows 7.
How can I correct this? Do not want to install 7 and then have a keyboard problem.
dv5z cto1100 running Vista Home Premium x64 is current OS
attempting to upgrade install to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full *I'll do a clean install at later date*
I was enjoying my new dv5z and my new Acer V193w monitor when the screen started flashing. I got a message stating that there was display driver failure or something to that effect. It happened once more and then I got a blue screen suggesting I remove any recently installed hardware.
I updated the monitor driver and all seemed well for a while...until it hapenned again tonight.

i broke my lcd screen a few days ago and i got a replacement from ebay. i installed it but i can see the image on my screen but it is verrry dim. there's no back light. so i put the old screen and turned it on and the back light is very bright but the lcd is cracked and messed up. i don't understand how could that be that the new screen is dim and the old one still is bright but messed up.

I just logged on an my screen is dim. It looks like it's in power saver mode but i didn't set it that way and can't get it to brighten. What gives?
I also have a red X next to my speaker that I can't get rid of either. Am I having a system wide malfunction or are there cornish pixies in my machine?

I turned it on and a fan noose starts but slowly stops. I don't really hear anything from it either. I also hooked it up to a VGA monitor and the it is black as well. Any ideas on what it isand is it easily fixed?

It started 2 days ago, on start up my screen is completely red then the windows logo appears with black splayed around the outside edge. I uninstalled the drivers for the graphics card and re-installed this made no difference. I hooked up an external monitor and that works perfectly,

View 5 Replies View RelatedI initially thought that I was experiencing the typical flickering-to-a-faint-screen shot inverter issue, but 3 inverters later and also 2 LCD replacement panels later (managed to come around multiple panels and inverters known to be working), the flickering-to-no-backlight problem persists. No matter which combination of panel/inverter I connect to the unit, the inverters are buzzing. (Hooking the unit to an external monitor works perfectly still at least.)
Since the LCD has to draw current from the motherboard, is it possible that the motherboard has some kind of problem sending current to the screen or something that's causing all the malfunctioning or even killing all the inverters I had?
my screen on my laptop broke as in spider web broke. I have a Compaq Presario V6500Z and I want to know if the Current model HP screens (for example HP Pavilion DV6113US screen) are compatible and interchangable with the compaq since both companies share the same parts.

View 4 Replies View Relatedlast summer I was given a HP Pavillion dv5 that had a little problem with his screen:
The part number of the piece is 484363-001, and it seems it has to be WXGA because of the resolution (1280x800). Is there any problem if it's WSXGA instead?
i bought this laptop may 2008 with nvidia 8400 card in it from futureshop,
but lately the screen was acting crazy, could someone identify the problem for me, see if it is the video card problem. here is a shot of my screen
screen problem on a Compaq nx6125.
Some time ago I was helping a friend troubleshoot her laptop which, among other things, wouldn't display anything on the screen. One of the things I tried was to take the display cable from her laptop's motherboard and connect it directly to my nx6125's screen. A bad idea, as it turns out, because after that my Compaq's screen appeared dead as well. Only the backlight still worked, so the screen was entirely light grey-ish when the laptop was turned on.
Hence question one: can something like that kill a laptop screen?
Anyway, I tried a few things to try and isolate the problem on my Compaq. Connecting an external monitor via VGA showed that the video card was fine, as the picture showed up on the external monitor. I also tried taking another old laptop I have and connecting its screen to my Compaq's display cable. Not smart, yes, considering that's how I busted my Compaq in the first place, but that other laptop is basically a brick anyway, with a non-working screen backlight among other things, and I mostly use it for parts. Anyway, the screen showed a faint picture, which leads me to conclude that the display cable on my Compaq is fine and that it is indeed the screen itself that's busted.
Question two: is there anything else I could check, or any repairs to attempt, before springing for a new screen on eBay?
Speaking of a new screen, there are two different ones available on eBay for the nx6125 - XGA and SXGA+. The laptop originally came with an XGA screen, and I wouldn't mind upgrading to SXGA+ while I'm at it, but I want to be sure the screen is 100% compatible.
So question three: are the screens availble on eBay in general, and the SXGA+ screens in particular, a 100% fit for my nx6125?
