HP/Compaq :: HP Dv5z Series- With USB Devices And Start Up
Mar 4, 2009
I have had a HP dv5z w/ windows Vista Home Premium - 64 bit for two days now.
1) I have a wired USB mouse that I use since the touchpad is terrible. But everytime, I plug in this supposedley plug and play mouse, there is a message that says device driver is being installed and it takes a few moments before the mouse can be recognized. Is this normal?
2) Also, the day i got my laptop, i had to download Windows updates (the automated message on the control panel said so!) and installed them. I am not sure if its related but since then i have re started my laptop 2-3 times and there is a file check process that happens as a part of the start up and then just before the welcome screen comes, i get a message
Step 1 of 3 - Configuring Updates - Do not shut down your computer.
How long is this going to happen and is this normal?
I have a new DV5z with the AMD Turion zm-84 and ATI radeon 3450. When I'm running on A/C power and on the high performance mode, the fan runs constantly. When I'm not even using the computer and it's sitting at idle, it still runs! It's loud...louder than a 2008 notebook should be IMO.
Is this a defect? Why won't the fan ever stop running?
Is there anyway i could undervolt my DV5Z so i can squeeze some more battery life out of it I wanna know any software that can support my AMD processor for it
I'm considering paying the extra $100 to add in the 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 to the dv5z I'm customizing...
My question is if I add that in does this machine make use of the "Hybrid Crossfire " capabilities and have the integrated and dedicated work together?
I really wanted the dv5t but I guess ya (I) can't a;ways get what I want.
I built this hv5z on hp's site, what do you think about it? Is it good or would I be better off getting a different platform? Like the dv6? This will just be used for college; email ,internet, homework, watching videos, a couople games like (general's zero hour)---but I'm not too much into gamming at all.

idea to go check out what HP has changed in their laptops recently. Well i looked at the dv5z and behold HP has put in a 512mb radeon 3650. If they can do this for the dv7z i will be saying goodbye to my dv7t.
My last computer was the HP DV5Z, which I LOVED. It was the perfect size, did everything i needed it for, and was an overall great choice.
Unfortunately, 1) My laptop was stolen when my apartment was broken into , and 2) they no longer sell the dv5z on hp.com
Now, I am for sure going to order my laptop from hp.com, so I need to know what you guys would recommend.
I will use my laptop for gaming, research, college, and DVD burning.
I am almost positive I want the slightly bigger dv6z, and thats my main choice.
However, I'm not sure how big of a difference performance in CPU is, if 4 gigs of ram is REALLY worth it over 3gigs of ram, whats the benefit of the wireless-N card over G, and how come all the coupons are used up
I have HP DV5Z-1000 laptop. The other day my AC adapter stopped working and won't charge my laptop. I know it is the adapter because when I have it plugged into the wall, and not even plugged into the laptop, it beeps.
I got my laptop in the US, but I am currently living in a small town in Canada and can't easily get replacement parts. I am not sure if HP will ship the same adapter to Canada.
My question is, can I buy any old adapter or would I need the same one it came with? If I need to buy a third party adapter what one can i get?
I was enjoying my new dv5z and my new Acer V193w monitor when the screen started flashing. I got a message stating that there was display driver failure or something to that effect. It happened once more and then I got a blue screen suggesting I remove any recently installed hardware.
I updated the monitor driver and all seemed well for a while...until it hapenned again tonight.

My W530 suddenly stopped communicating with my MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, and nothing I try will bring it back. It does not show under Bluetooth devices, and it will not find anything when I search for devices. I know the mouse is not at issue, as it will readily pair with an Android device. Yes, the manual wireless switch is turned on. Yes, it is turned on in the Fn+F5 OSD. I've done a BIOS update. I've updated my system using Lenovo System Update. I've checked power settings both under driver properties, and in my power plans. Everything seems to be in place, it's just like the Bluetooth has vanished, but the system doesn't know it. Yes, I'm POSITIVE my system has Bluetooth... I've been using it for the past 6 months or more.
Recently, I've experienced issues with the mouse losing connection for a few moments at a time, but nothing beyond that. Then yesterday, It's completely gone, and I can't get it back.
I'm currently having problems with my Y510p's webcam. It stopped functioning recently.... But I've already performed a OneKey Recovery and it is still disabled. When I start the YouCam software they said that there was no webcam detected and if there was I have to turn on the integrated webcam. I have also checked in Device Manager and still.... No result. The webcam isn't appearing in my Imaging Devices option.
i have lenovo ideapad s510p , i download win7 but when i try to send file via bluetooth i cant find devices ,bluetooth is turned on an i see this message
i installed xp on my dv5t however i still have 2 unknown devices in my device manager one of them is something about a keyboard it's confusing and when i log on to windows i always get the found new device window..... i also wanna ask you guys how can i make my bluetooth work in xp (since the software is only supported in vista) i also want to ask you guys (who installed xp on dv5t) , did anyone noticed that the sound only come out from the center of the speaker? i mean that the speaker is big (from the right end to the left end of the laptop) but the sound seem to come out only from the center part (wich wasn't happening in vista),
I just finished doing a clean install with the help of velocity's clean install guide.
Everything is normal, but I have "unkown devices" in my device manager. Also, the touch sensitive volume control above my keyboard works, but the graphics that pop up on the screen while adjusting the volume are not there anymore.
I have a brand new DV6T 1300 CTO, and here is the HP driver webpage. [url]
Does anyone know which drivers I probably need to update? Has anyone experienced this?
Here is a Screen shot of my device manager:
I called HP support thinking they wouldn't care if I did a clean install. The rep was sort of a jerk. He told me I need to buy a $30 recovery disk from them. I told the rep all I needed to fix was 2 little things, which arn't worth $30 in the first place. I mentioned the HP drivers webpage and asked if he would point out which drivers I probably needed to download to fix my problems, but he wouldn't tell me. He kept giving me the run around.
I did create both a backup disc and a recovery set before I did a clean install.
Typical Dell issue. I just got my new Dell 15 5000 series laptop. Spent 1 hour setting it up. Took a break closed the lid and now its dead. I have a power light on the front but screen wont come back. Have held the power button down for 10 seconds then retried it but nothing. It is plugged in just no screen or activity.
I have z500. I start playing some medium grapic games. After a 1 hour gameplay my graphics start to glitch so i checked my cpu and gpu temp. I saw that CPU temp has reached 99 Celcius but still the fans were dead. Few minutes later, after what ever reason, fans start to spin and now its cooled downed to 60 C. and keeps spinning in low speed still.
Since i can see the temp, i assume there is no problem in thermometer so i assume its kind of a software deficiency. I am not using any overcload or cooling app, my power settings are set to high performance.
My lenovo B570 is 1month old, when i turn it on it hangs before the user account appears.. its stucked and just saying "Please wait" then i need to turn it off and turn on and on again till it works. Then sometimes when i shut down its also stucked on "Shutting down" I already tried reformatting and its still the same.
Sometimes computer works fine (really rarely) but usually it just doesnt start.
I need to press powerbutton atleast 50 times until it finally start, and when it starts the screen is just blinking black and keys are blinking too, the problem becoming more general when it gets "cold" (Cold = normal indoor temperature 22 celsius) it also takes ages to get windows screen
I have already visited warranty with my laptop and it was there 1.5 months, and they changed keyboard (why?!?!) and send it back, they said that they run some tests without any problems. Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!
I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!
I've noticed that my laptop doesn't start at first power on. A push the start button, Lenovo image is showing but after few second the power go off. I need to push again the power button and then the laptop start without problem.
I have problem with my battery. When i unplug AC power laptop is not started. It's running only when the AC is plugged in. Mabe it's a problem with windows 8.1.
I am using an X1 Carbon (2014 Gen). Win 7 - 64 bit pre installed. Latest finger print manager pro software from lenovo 8.01.07. Tried everything and all possible combinations on the fingerprint software. But can't start my machine by swiping. The reader works perfect otherwise. I can pass bios log on to windows etc. But I still have to go through the power on button. I observe that in the new software (unlike in the earlier ones) there are no start on buttons to be clicked above the fingerprints. how to bypass pressing the power on button and start the machine directly by swiping the enrolled finger?
My friend has a Lenova G580. She said Windows wouldn't boot and gave it to me to fix.
I confirmed that windows does not boot in normal mode, safe mode, or recovery mode using any of the boot options for Windows. It will either sit at a black screen (it looks like it's almost at the GUI) or reboot if in safe mode before it gets to that point.
So after discussion we decided to whipe the machine using the Lenovo OneKey Rescue system. I hit the Lenovo OneKey button next to the power button.
It spends a couple minutes booting and I get the green grass background that looks like this one for version 7 but it will just sit there for a day without ever loading the the app. No mouse, no windows. Just the brackground image.
What the problem might be for this system? Restoring to factory settings was the last resort and I am alarmed to see this is not working on this ~2 year old system.
I just got my new system, and wanted to remove the crapware before creating my recovery disks. I did that, then ran the Sony utility to create the recovery disks. I did not install anything.
One thing I uninstalled was SQL Server. I have no need of it.
Building the recovery froze at various stages of completion... 44%, 27%, 21%. I got an alert with the error, "Failed to start database service". I finally caught that error right away and dismissed -- then the system finished building the recovery disks.
Great -- now I have to wonder, are the recovery disks even valid?
Also, what database service does the system want, and what process wants it? I now get this error at arbitrary times. Sometimes on startup. Usually whenever I do anything with install/remove programs. So is this some new Windows 7 enhancement to the registry? Have I created a time bomb in my system by deleting SQL Server? If Windows 7 needs this, why did it let me delete it?
So far I wish I had a DOS machine. It's unfortunate that my work requires me to use Windows -- the OS treats me badly, and I can't use my new machine until I can predict whether the initial setup is valid.
I am getting continuous beep sounds while starting of the laptop. The beep sound is continuous for a period of appx 10-15 seconds and afterwards the laptop is working normally.
