HP/Compaq :: DV6000 Screen Black

what to do with this laptop. When first turned on the blue lights come on, there is a dim hue to the screen and then black while the puter boots up. Through the network I can access the files but cannot see them on the dv6000 screen. I attached an old external screen and rebooted with the Windows sign-in showing for about 5 secs and then black. Took out the battery, held down power button for 60 secs and then plugged in power and started the puter. Still black screen.

Does it sound like an inverter or motherboard? Should I call it day with this and buy a cheap laptop. I mostly transcribe files. No gaming.
