HP/Compaq :: HP Tech Support
May 14, 2009
I have been VERY happy with the tech support that I have received form HP. I had some problems with the speaker on my DV7t-2000, and the HP tech support has been very helpful. They originally told me (after a phone conversation/attempted fix) that they would be sending me a box to send the computer in for a fix. I just got off the phone with them, and they told me that they will be sending a new version with updated specifications, mainly a 2.26ghz quad core processor (up from a 2.4ghz dual core), and 500gb worth of hard drive space (up from 320gb). They will also be giving me a fingerprint scanner and a more powerful wireless card.
All in all, I have to say that they have been FANTASTIC. I have heard horror stories about HP, but they seem to be just fine.

I had a dell inspiron that was changed to a precision system and i tried going to the online tech support but they do not give tech support to precision systems which i kind of find annoying as my landline is my cell phone and going thru tech support during the day kills my minutes.

I'm looking at my new SXPS 16 and on the right side of the glossy lid it looks like they didn't finish glossing it or it jammed up.
Also when I run my hand over it it feels rough compared to the glossy rest of the lid. Also you can only see it at angles not looking straight down

This is a long story of various experiences ive had with dell tech support and dell technicians.
It all started when i was 3 years old, my mommy was out for dinner and i.... oh wait... wrong story lol.
okay so when i bought this xps m1530 i knew about all the GPU issues and i was OK with that,
becasue the m1530 is an amazing machine, but some months ago it started giving me green screens and high temperatures, so i figured i should talk to dell about it, and this is what happened .....

I've bought through ebay an envy 15 (1st gen), and the overheating issues began from first day. It shuts down frecuently, when playing most of them. Seller tells me to send it to HP, but I think they will have the PC for a long time, and they will return it in the same conditions. I have the posibility of send the pc back to the seller... What do you think about HP's assistant? Do you really think they could fix the overheating problem?

i've just received my repaired dv2310 back from HP due to a motherboard failure. everything is back to normal now.. boots fine, although GPU temp still a little on the hot side. its at 81C now and the only thing i'm doing is typing this message. CPU temp around 55-60C light load. (Turion 64x2 1.6ghz)
but one major issue.. the HP tech SCRATCHED MY SCREEN! theres several nicks on the upper left portion.. its very obvious when i am looking a blank white page..
should i call HP and complain? would there be a case? I did take some pics of the laptop and screen before I shipped it just to prepare for situations like these. so anyone's screens got scratched up and went after HP for a replacement?

since I live in Canada and all and we only have the crap 1st Generation HP Envy 15's... if I were to buy a 2nd Generation one through Ebay.CA (The canadian site, yes they have them on there)....
Would the warranty or any tech support be void because I did not buy it through a valid seller? Or does the tech support just go by the Serial # on the bottom of the laptop?
Only reason I ask is because the last thing I want to do is buy a $2000 machine, in a country that doesn't have them yet, and find myself having problems 2 months in and not be able to do anything about it.
Anyone know?
Or if there is another way I can get a 2nd Gen HP Envy 15 to myself in Canada, without having to go to the border and all that junk, incase I do have problems and need to send it back ever?

I am scheduling an appointment to get the motherboard and trackpad of my XPS M1530 replaced.
I am having them do it at my work and my boss says its ok as long as they don't take to long. Who has had them do this before and how long did it take? I have heard times as low as 20 mins or as high as two hours.
I really hoping that it will only take like a half hour since I feel awkward doing this at work but i need it done.

When I recieved my xps, my screen had a ton of dust/debris in between the plastic cover and the lcd.
I called dell and they set up a service call. Is taking off the screen a very involved process?
will my laptop still be the same once they put it back together? anything I should ask the tech to do to make sure he doesn't mess it up?

if I can utilize full 5.1 speakers on my dv3t with the use of an external soundcard to USB. Here are the products on Newegg I am looking at buying.

I looked at the 7 channel USB device just in case later down the road I want to upgrade to a 7.1. For now, I want to use the 5.1 speakers in my dorm room. Also, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Will these speakers with the soundcard work just as if I had them in a desktop?

I have an HP dv9000 laptop.
It came with Windows Vista, at one point I was dual-booting Vista/XP, and I am currently using Windows 7beta.
I recently went in my bios settings and tried to enable native sata support, and after that, my computer wouldn't go into Win7, until i disabled it again.
It was enabled when i first got my computer, and i had to disable it for XP compatibility. I figure, if it works with Vista, there's no reason it wouldnt work with Win7. Perhaps it's configured to run without the setting, so enabling it effs it up and confuses it. is there any way i can enable it again, preferably without having to do a full OS install?

I just received a HP DV4T laptop that I purchased direct from HP. When the laptop was ordered one of the upgrades was an "Intel Wireless-N card with Bluetooth" Upon receiving and configuring the laptop I have discovered that what was actually installed was an Intel Wifi 1000 adapter, which only operates in the 2.4ghz frequency range. After getting transferred around HP for a while basically they could not tell me if this was a mistake or just what they offer (their website is very vague on what "wireless-N" adapter you get). They offered to either credit me for the $25 upgrade or I could return the laptop. I elected to get the credit as I am otherwise happy with the laptop.
I can easily replace the wi-fi card; however does anyone on this forum know if the laptop has the proper antenna to make use of a wireless N card that transmits on the 5ghz (and 2.4ghz) bands?

Looks like our hunches about what's inside the next MacBook Pros are panning out: AppleInsider hears that Apple's got new MacBook Pros running that can switch between integrated and discrete graphics automagically, which exactly describes Nvidia's Optimus dual graphics tech.
If you remember, the unibody MacBooks from Oct. 2008 were the first to use Nvidia's GeForce 9400M, a combination chipset/integrated GPU that ridiculously outperformed Intel's own integrated graphics, and the Pro models at the time could switch between power-saving integrated and beefier discrete graphics, though it requires a logout.
Nvidia got cockblocked from making chipsets for Intel's latest-gen chips (read: Core i3, Core i5, Core i7), ruling out using Nvidia's better integrated graphics; Nvidia canned their chipset business entirely. So! Nvidia's Optimus tech works with Intel's crappier integrated graphics that are built onto the same die as the newer Core processors, but even more seamlessly than before—the computer automatically switches between Intel's power-sipping integrated and Nvidia's monster discrete graphics, depending on what you're doing. No logouts required.
In the demo we saw on a Windows machine, the automatic part of the tech has some drawbacks—namely, it's entirely dependent on software to tell your computer which graphics card to run. But Apple's obviously worked pretty closely with Nvidia on graphics before, so it seems logical they're doing so here, too. Though I don't expect we'll know until the new MacBooks finally arrive, whenever that happens (hopefully, soon).

I have a HP dv6408nr that needs a hard drive. I have found a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB. I have searched on Google for days and i have yet to find a definitive answer if my computer actually supports the 3GB/s transfer rate that new hdd is capable of. I do know that the drive i have is a 1.5GB/s however i have not checked it for a jumper. The hdd that my lappy shipped with has the 1.5GB/s transfer rate.

I have a DV5 1010tx, just over 12 months old. While I appreciate this is now considered an old model, I have found the support from HP in providing updates to drivers & software to be appalling. While I'm happy to locate newer versions myself, I'm sure there are many who haven't the experience to do this. For example, the video drivers provided for Win7 are from 2008, and interestingly are not compatible with HP Media DVD for playing BluRay.
Is this simply laziness on part of HP? I don't expect support for my product forever, but at least 2 or 3 years is reasonable.

I recently bought an OEM Vista Home Premium 64-bit and installed is yesterday. I chatted to a Dell tech support guy today and he essentially said that I wasted my money on the 64-bit OS as Dell laptops do not support 64-bit Operating systems. He said this was due to the fact that my processor (see above) was a 32bit processor. I however came accross this intel site;[url] whci i believe to be my processor that states it is a 64-bit processor.
Another thing; in the dell tech support application, my total memory is shown as 4GB, whilst my available memory is shown to be 2.6GB. Does this mean that all 4GB is not being recognised/utilised? Or does it simply mean that 1.4GB of RAM is currently being used, with 2.6GB left for when I need it?

I would just like to share my recent experience with Acer support and was wondering if others have the same experience.
When I bought my Acer 8930 with Vista installed I was very happy. Started to install and change everything to my liking. I played the HD disk that came with it and all was ok. 2 Days later the same disk would not play anymore. Ok no problem I had other things to do.
I was also transferring files between the Acer (Intel wifi card build in) and was getting speeds of 2.1MB/s. My IMac on the same network was showing 4-6MB/s. So, I installed a netrgear USB 300 adapter on the Acer (using an external drive, because the Acer drive was still not working) and I got indeed the speeds of 4-6MB/s.
So I contacted Acer support. Their reply: " please contact the manufacturer of the network card...." Oh wow, can you imagine if the light of your car does not work. Do you bring your car to the dealer or to Philips?
A few days later I installed Windows 7 64bit after installing all I contacted Acer again. This time about the drive. Their reply:" Please reinstall Vista, in order to do a better analysis, because the laptop was sold with Vista and not Windows 7."
Both replies are absolute Bull**** (excuse my French). I gave them my opinion and will wait until Monday to get a reply. If it is still a reply in the same trend as previous I will ship the laptop back with the friendly request to repair it.
Is this normal for a company such as Acer?

Early last week my XPS M1330 started to blue screen and suffer screen pixelation issues on a frequently recurring basis.
Thanks to this forum I was soon able to deduce that my GPU was suffering from the well known GPU over-heating issue.
I called Dell XPS premium support on Wednesday afternoon and got through to someone in India who was extremely curtious, spoke excellent english and was obviously technically savy.
