I used a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installation DVD to replace Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my Elitebook 8740w. In the end, I used a clean installation as the upgrade option ended up with a fail error. However, after doing the clean install, it can't detect any wifi. What drivers am I likely to need to download and re-install?

I have an Elitebook 8540w laptop. I wanted to upgrade RAM memory from 2x2GB to 2x4GB. I bought not a kit of 2x4GB as i wanted to, instead I bought two 4GB memory chips from HP.
After replacing the modules the laptop does not boot up.
What has been done:

My first question is: i realize it is better to buy a kit of 2 matched chips, but is it a must?

The WLAN adapter is in working condition as I was able to connect wifi in Ubuntu linux...
I tried with older version, the driver gets installed but with connection, no luck....
After doing a fresh install of windows 7 Professional 32Bit, my wifi drivers did not install, i have tried numerous drivers of the website for my laptop and they don't work, ive tried many things but cant seem to find the right drivers, my laptop is a HP Elitebook 2530p, can find the correct drivers for my wifi Card?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just received a Elitebook 1040 G1 running win7 64-bit and have been installing all the necessary things that i'm going to need for everyday use. Out of curiosity i wanted to get the fingerprint reader set up just to have that as an option if i wanted. After installing Digital persona and the validity driver numerous times to try and troubleshoot this, my laptop still will not recognize the fingerprint reader.
Steps taken:
Uninstalled and reinstalled validity drivers multiple times
Uninstalled and reinstalled digital persona(plus updates)
Checked to see if the biometrics are in device manager and recognized by the machine;which they are
I wish to upgrade my system to windows 8. I have tried installing trail version, however I am not able to install few drivers like WiFi on it. When can I get Windows 8 drivers for my laptop.

Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?
I had got a VAIO NS15G a few days back with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
I have just upgraded to Vista Ultimate. But after installing the FN Keys for volume and Brightness are not working.
After installing some software from VAIO website, it was under support downloads, dont remember the name, the Volume key is working perfectly (fn+F3 and F4)
But brightness is not working. It shows the brightness metre on pressing the keys but doesnt change or adjut the brightness.
I have an HP Pavilion dv5 that cam,e with Win 7 Home Premium. I have upraded the OS to Win 7 Ulitimate.
I now am going to sell the dv5 and want to install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on a different computer. Do I have to deactivate the Win 7 Ultimate upgrade license, or can I just restore the dv5 to factory condition using the Recovery Drive .
And then just install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on another computer?
I have dell inspiron 3420 core i3 which comes with window 7 home basic 64x and I upgrade it to window 7 ultimate 64x.. but now i want to restore it to its original factory setting to home basic 64x... I searched it alot about restore to factory setting and apply all the suggestion but cant work. When I press F8 and select system repair after that select language then for log in it shows me two account one is mine one which i created and the other I don,t know where it comes from. So i select my administrator account but there when i click on restore to factory setting it shows a message that "system/window cant find recovery disk" like this type of message..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on this Acer Aspire AS7520-5311 laptop, on Vista 32, with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. Trying to tweak some graphic settings last night somehow I guess I deleted the video drivers for the nvidia card. I went into the device manager and deleted all of the display drivers. When it rebooted it tried to install it again. For some odd reason, it installed a "Standard VGA adaptor". So my desktop resolution is back to the former settings but any remotely graphic demanding programs will not run. I've went to Acer's website and nvidias website and cannot find the exact NVIDIA GeForce 8400M driver. I've tried everything listed under the model number on acer's website and it will install, reboot, but when comes back up. It still only shows the same standard vga adaptor.
This did not come with a restore disk for some odd reason!
Now before I just blame Vista, transfer all of my data, erase it, and then put XP on it.
I'm sure If I could somehow find the correct driver for the video card it would help.
My dad bought this really cool notebook with gaming entry parts. I was wanting to install the latest driver on the Nvidia webiste but it keeps telling me that the hardware is undetected. I tried uninstalling both the Nvidia and the Intel driver but nothing seems to work. How to stop this error from occuring?

Antenna fits nicely into disassembled/"lightened" Lenovo UltraBay III adapter and can be bolted with a small screw so it is completed fixed.
I installed win7(64bit) on 15d103tx..but lan wire is not detected by the laptop...when i checked in network adapters,there were only two bluetooth device there...wifi is also not available....
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently created an image of a hp elitebook 6930p and cloned it to another when I noticed that the wifi doesn't work (although it was working some point before I starting imaging). If I use an ethernet connection, internet works fine.
I'm running windows 7 64 bit enterprise on them.
I have quite a few of these and I installed a fresh windows os on one and there's no problem with the wifi.
I tried looking online for a solution and two came up:vtouch the wifi quick panel "button": while the information, volume quick buttons work, the wifi doesn'treset to default settings in the bios: unfortunately, these laptops were donated to us and there's a password on the bios. I tried entering nothing. I'm afraid to push it anymore in case there's an anti-theft measure on too many failed passwords vWhat else can I do to fix this issue?
I have a problem with my wifi. The button is always appearing orange, and nothing happens when I press it: no errors, no messages, no reaction at all. Therefore I cannot use wifi connection.
The laptop is kinda new: I am using it for only 2 months.

My windows crashed and I recovered it from the archive created a couple days prior to that. Archive included all hard drives data, so system was restored exactly as it was prior to the crash. I am still not sure if this caused the problem (or if the problem appeared after that): it happened a month ago, and I didn't have WiFi available back then, and only tried to turn it on a couple days ago.
Additional details:
In device manager wireless card is showing up as working normally. In adapter management wireless connection is turned on but says "no connection available". If I run the diagnostics, it asks me to turn on WIFI with a button on my laptop, which I cannot do. In mobility center it says "wireless connection is turned off". Turn on button is gray, and impossible to click on.
Things I already tried:
Reinstalled all HP drivers from the original CD;Removed WiFi card in windows device manager (deleted the device), restarted windows, installed new drivers for it, restarted again;Checked mobility center as was suggested in one of the threads found on this forum;Made a hard reset for HP laptop (removed battery, pressed on/off button for full minute).
I have a problem with my L530 and the WiFi Connection. When I start the computer and see the Login-Screen of Windows 8.1 the networkicon left to the betteryicon have a red cross. After I log into Windows 8.1, I have no wireless connection availible. In the devicemanager is no wirelesscard listet, also there are no other problems with other devices.
After restarting, power off/on, removing the battery and so on about 1.000.000 times the wireless card is pretty working to the next shut down. So my workaround was to use the standby mode instead shut down after I've finished working.
UNTIL yesterday! Now I can't enable the wireless card... This card is installled: ThinkPad Wireless LAN (11bgn, bg)
I've tried the following things:
- UEFI is on version 2.56
- loading UEFI defaults, save and reboot
- remove the battery and power plug -> push the power button for 10 sec
- disable hybrid shut down in windows
- booting with ubuntu 13.04 -> no wireless hardware available...
Nothings works...
My HP elite book 8460p will not get online , but the WiFi connection shows up fine. I am aware that I am missing three drivers in the "other" devices section.. I believe those might be the reason but I'm not sure and because I can't connect the PC to internet I have to download them manually from another laptop to a flash drive but I can't find any direct downloads without getting driver set up or driver restore.. The drivers missing are, base system device, universal serial bus (usb) &, unknown device.

But now, i don't due to windows update or something else, i'm having problem with it. Sometimes, the driver works well, but most and most of the time, windows have problem with the driver. It, either mentions " driver or hardware related problem" while i troubleshoot it, or sometimes it doesn't even detect the device in device manager. I even tried reinstalling the driver by the driver which i was provided with the laptop bt the same problem still persists. I'd like to know whether the windows updates is disturbing it because once i'd found the Ralink wifi driver update on the windows update list which had created problem and i uninstalled it. Now i cant find that driver update in the windows updates list.

I do'nt know what happened but out of no where my wifi adapter somehow stopped working. whenever I enable my wifi button, the bluetooth only works and the wifi icon that usually shows on the lower right of the Taskbar doesn't show. I also checked the Device manager>Network Adapters, the wifi adapter is not there. I also tried "Scan for hardware changes" but still there is no Wifi adapter showing up.

I recently bought HP compaq 15-s006TU and the wifi doesn't work in windows. The wifi button on the keyboard is always orange.
