I've got W7 installed but I can't find the correct drivers (and that after six hours of searching).
I can't find the correct usb drivers for my laptop after downgrading from windows 8.l to windows 7 home premuim. These are the device details.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron 6000 computer and installed Ram into my laptop. The thing was i tried to push it in and it would not go in. I then later saw there was a spot where u can push the ram in and eventually got it in. I did use lot of force pushing it in.
When i open my laptop, it opens but the screen is black and then turns off in like 7 seconds. I then took out the new ram and installed the old ram. It still has the same problem. Does that mean my laptop does not work anymore? Does it also mean i cannot return my RAM to the online site where i purchased my ram since theres a 30 day policy?
My acer 5100 came with vista and I'm trying to do a fresh install of XP SP2 on it.
After I get past the partitioning part in the install process, it goes on to the "installing windows" stage and shuts off midway. This has been happening a few times and after some googling, reckoned it has to do with the SATA hard drive.
I tried to get on Bios and change the SATA to IDE but I didnt find any modifiable property for the hard drive on BIOS
I'm wondering some of you folks who installed XP on a vista laptop got it done.
Can you install ATI Leaked Driver for laptop with your Sony laptop? ATI will release drivers for laptops in the near future but Sony has asked ATI not to include Sony with it.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy 12 month old Laptop Pavillion G6 (which has been the worst computer I have ever owned!) is stuck on an update. The screen has been showing the message "Keep your PC on until this is done... installing update 1 of 2" for 12 hours (overnight).
Just over 2 weeks ago it had a problem with connecting to WiFi - which also seemed to be related to Windows updates - I sorted that one out and it has been fine since then. Started an automatic update last night and now it is stuck.
I own an Inspiron 9400 with a 160gb 5400rpm drive. I want to order the Fujitsu MHX2300BT 300gb laptop drive and replace my existing 160gb with it. The 160gb i have is 9.5mm height i believe and the 300gb from fujitsu is 12.5mm high. Will it fit? Is it as easy as removing the old drive and attaching the dell proprietary connector to the new drive and then restoring? CDW has it for 360usd and I'm itching to buy it I just want to make sure it will work.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI recently recieved HP dv5-1119nr as a gift for Christmas. It has a Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit OS. I am a DJ and Use Numarks Virtual Vinyl audio Interface which is for my turntables. I have no complaints with the notebook. Unfortunately, the interface is not compatible with 64-Bit, and according to Numark may not be anytime soon. I had a friend upload his Vista 32-Bit OS for me to download, as a matter of fact he sent me two to choose from. I have (frustratingly) tried multple times to burn and re-install a 32-Bit system. I have tried using Cyberlink DVD Suite to save the .iso file (I understand that). It shows up looking like a winrar file, but in properties it does say .iso. Once burn is finished I try to reboot. Under BIOS, CD Drive is enabled and first. But it doesn't Boot! Upon looking at the disc it shows 2 files; BOOTCTG.BIN and BOOTIMG.BIN. What am I doing wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 700m of which I am the original owner. I just ordered a new Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 80GB 7200rpm drive. I have only done one OS install prior to this when I assembled a desktop PC but that was several years ago and I was following an online guide (MySuperPC) virtually step-by-step.
I have contacted Dell and they sent me a reinstall copy of the OS (XP Home) on CD.
My biggest concern is partitioning. I'm really not clear on what this is all about or how I should go about doing this. I've had one person tell me not to partition at all. Another tell me to make it 50%-50% and another tell me to make a 5GB partition just for the OS.
This a basic email, web browsing, document reading type of machine that I use when I'm traveling.
I can follow to install the OS onto my new hard drive? I've seen a few, but they seem to be more geared toward recovery type reinstallations and several seem geared more toward "power users."

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am currently running the Windows 7 RC1 beta on my VGN-Z21WN/B. It comes with 4GB RAM but from my understanding a 32 bit OS will only be able to use 3 GB of them. Also, the system actually has over 4GB since (at least im told) the RAM in the graphic card should also be added into the total amount.
Now you understand why I would like to use a x64 OS instead, so here comes my problem: Whenever I try to install one the computer gives me a BSOD and does a physical memory dump. The installation itself is no problem, but when I log in it crashes.
I have attempted with two different Win 7 RC1 x64 discs and a official Windows Vista x64 disc from Microsoft and the result is always the same.
After too many failed attempts I decided to give up and reload my old installation using the image tool (which works wonderful!) and now I am using Win 7 RC1 x86 again.
my fan recently died on my S480, I ordered a replacement fan and the Sony Agent wouldn't give me any information on how to replace the fan, how to install the fan (which I declined).
I've opened up my laptop many times (replaced my hard drive recently), and I'm comfortable playing around the internals. But I have no clue how to take this fan out. It looks like there is only one screw and the rest is either glued to the circuit board or something.

I formatted my laptop HDD by connnecting it as an external HDD to another laptop and did start -> control panel - > Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> storage -> Disk Management: Delete Partition and Format my HDD.
My internal DVD writer is not reading DVD. DVD writer is attempting to read DVD, I can see lights, I can hear the sound of disk spinning. After 2-3 seconds of attempting to read DVD it stops and starts again. this happens over and over till I remove the DVD.
I have an external USB DVD writer(it works) which is not detecting at bootup. I was counting on that to install XP. I have an external USB floppy drive - it gets detected at bootup
When I start my computer I get "Operating System not found"(of course). I have a XP installation cd. I tried making a USB stick boot XP installation - not detecting USB stick at startup. I also looked at BIOS settings to enable USB - I don't see any such feature
1) How can I enable BIOS to detect my external USB DVD writer?
2) How can I install XP?
Just bought a new 2.5 HDD for my laptop. It's suppose to arrive tomorrow and I thought I'd get on the front side of the installation. Is there anything I should be knowing beyond a simple 'unscrew the bay cover on the bottom of the dv7, unscrew and remove the old drive, unscrew the old drive from the caddy, screw the new drive into the caddy, place the new drive/caddy assembly into the same bay, push the assembly into the connector slot, screw the caddy down, button up the dv7, and do a clean install of Windows 7'? I've been told that I may have to do some special type of reformatting before initial and first use of the new drive or else it may not work properly. Is this true?
I've also heard that some BIOS adjustments might allow me to use both the old and new drives,... true? Will using a 7200 rpm drive in one bay along with a 5400 rpm drive in the second bay cause problems? If not, should I dedicate the faster drive to holding data or elect for it to be the boot drive?
I've tried finding something on HP's site with very little success.

When I try to install XP, I can only see the one ~ 130 GB partition - which I cannot delete (?!?!) and then I guess I am missing the ~ 90 GB recovery partition.

I'm trying to install XP on my machine after I fried old HD that had W7 installation. I bought new HD but i only have XP CD so i figured I'll install XP so far to get the PC up and ruining, and upgrade to W7 once i find by back-up CD.
My new HD is picked up by machine, and CD starts with installation, copying files from the CD, but only up to the point where it is supposed to start with windows installation.
At that point I get blue screen and message telling me i do not have HD or it is incorrectly installed and that I should run check disk. I've run BIOS scan, and HD is present and scans OK. Is it possible that previous install of W7 is memorized somewhere in BIOS and it is not allowing me to install XP even though HD is blank and brand new?

I tried to install Windows XP sp3 in it.. since the dvd-drive of CQ60-100EE had problems, i removed the Hard disk > fixed it in my other laptop and installed XP > then fixed the HDD back to CQ60-100EE.. now when i switched on the laptop, a blue screen appears after Windows XP boot screen.. and then the laptop restarts.. (the blue screen appears just for a fraction of second..) , the laptop starts normally in SAFE MODE.. no blue screen appears while it is starting in safe mode.. Also i have difficulty in finding XP drivers for CQ60-100EE..
Does anyone know if it's relatively easy to install your own SSD into a 2140...I like everything about it except the $575 charge for upgrading the drive to an 80GB SSD.

I used boot camp a few days ago without having my vista ultimate yet and I partitioned the hardrive in half then this morning I tried installing windows as said in this forum as to use the assistant in boot camp and I got to the part where it said where would you like to install the OS, they gave 4 different options and only one would have been enough space to put a partition so I figured I could delete the other partitions and see but now it left me with only 1 full HD , the other problem with this is the CD won't eject and keeps wanting to install the windows on the full partition , anyone know how to eject the cd any commands ? so maybe I could boot back to OSX
