HP Pavilion 15-e020TU :: DVD Drive Not Working With Win 8.1
Oct 24, 2014
I have HP pavilion 15-e020TU notebook. My DVD drive worked with windows 7 and windows 8. After upgrading to windows 8.1 , the DVD drive is not working. Windows device manager can find the DVD drive but shows a yellow error mark. I selected "Update driver software" and then "Search automatically for updated driver software" . Then the name changed from "Mitsumi CD drive" to "hp DVD A DU8A5SH". And still not working. I installed the firmware update from [URL] ... But a command prompt shows "Error: no mitsumi drives found." What can I do now ?
I had to install a new hard drive and re-install windows 7 on my Pavilion dv6. I downloaded drivers for LAN card and can get on internet with wire connected. When I installed wireless drivers I get compatibility box that says drivers did not install properly. Net work controller shows no driver installed. I am running windows 7...

I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?
I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
i am using HP Pavilion G6 core i 3, my touch pad is working properly but the cursor lock option on touch pad is not working.when i double click on top left corner to lock the cursor nothing is happening..
After upgrade to 8.1 HDMI port didn't work. Followed instructions to correct BIOS and graphice driver; HDMI works - however Silverlight no longer working with DMS.
Get error 6036 in Silverlight which is Graphics device's driver certificate is invalid
Have checked graphics driver and is all up to date
Machine is HP Pavilion 11 x2 Graphics driver version 10.18.10.3366
I have an hp dv5t and my cd/dvd drive suddenly stopped working. I think you better look at the pictures, but one day vista said it was intalling that random letter device, and then after that my cd drive doesnt seem to work. It still opens, and seems to spin up the drive after you close it but Its not showing up in my computer.
I just upgraded from Vista and the Blu-ray drive won't work. I installed the device driver and it appears in the system manager. Is there some other software that needs to be downloaded? If so, where do I get it from?
I have a Dv6244us running windows 7 and for a while now the disc drive has been sporadically ejecting without any pushing of the eject button. Now it only opens occasionally when prompted to do so and it has stopped reading discs; when I go to My Computer it tells me to insert a disc when there is one in the drive.
the dvd drive on my studio 1535 will not accept CDs; they go in but are quickly ejected. Also the DVD drive is constantly trying to eject even when no disc is in it
I bought Laptop Pavilion g6 with the preinstalled win7 home basic. Now my harddrive is dead and i need to reinstall it on the new drive. How can I do this?
I have had this laptop for just about a week and a half, and although last week it played "The Dark Knight" BluRay disc, it will not play any bluray at this point in time.
The Acer Arcade Deluxe program is apparently supposed to do that function, but it will not. I have updated the software for AAD a couple of times. I have tried reinstalling it, I have tried checking the driver for the multi-drive. All to no avail!
Right now the Device Manager calls the optical drive a CD-Rom. I do not know if it was a Windowes update that screwed things up, or what, but what is the point of buying a laptop with a blu-ray drive, when 10 days later it won't play a blu-ray disc?
I have had my acer laptop just over a year know and everything has been fine until a few months ago. All of a sudden my dvd drive stopped working which was a major problem as I routinely back up my hard drive as I use it for work. The warrenty has runout.
I have a 2012 envy 15 with Win8.1 Update 1 and a few days ago, i noticed that there was a newer version of my graphics card so I decided to update it.
After the installation, the computer screen became black and I only was able to see the mouse pointer, So i waited for almost half hour and then decided to turn of my computer. I restarted it and it kept seeing a black screen (the windows logo appeared during the boot).
As I couldn't do anything with my computer, I decided to Refresh it in hope that it will return to a good state. During the refreshing the pc restarted but the power light started blinking , like the computer was at Sleep, and when the refresh finished, the screen was good, but the light kept blinking.
I tryed to shutdow the computer but when i turn it on again I didnt ear the Cd rom making the usual noise and the lights where blinking.
So i decided to maybe put it in sleep, but when i tried it, the computer screen when black for a few seconds and the pc went wake immediately, and when i try to put it to sleep again, the Sleep option was gone.
Then I thought that something went wrong with the refresh , so i clean install windows from a bootale usb drive since the CD wasn't working..
But that didn't work either, and to make things worst all my computer fans stopped working. So now I end up with a pc with a clean win8 install, the power lights keep blinking (both power button and the side light), no ability the sleep the computer, no cd drive and no fans..
I have upgraded to Windows 8 on my Dell Studio 1558 recently. After the upgrade, none of my USB drives are working. I have tried to search on the net as well, but no success.
I had been using my DVD/Bluray drive but after a reinstall of windows 7 I am not able to access the DVD / Bluray drive. or rather I am able to access it after re-installing the driver and then after I take out the disk in the drive again the drive becomes unrecongnizeable
I reinstalled the firmware PLDS DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo Firmware Update(SE2_CD11.zip ) from Dell support site but this did not work.
The only way I can get it to work is by uninstalling the device, rebooting and when it starts up again, it reinstall the driver and the drive works. A thing to note is that this also does not work every time.
My friend has a 2006 hp pavilion running xp. I have a 2007 hp pavilion running vista(32 bit). They look completely identical. Her motherboard took a dump, but the hard drive is good, and she needs to get the data off of it. Can i take out my hard drive from my laptop and install hers to get the docs and data off of it? Is it the same connection? size?
The disk drive seems to be working fine, it opens and closes and runs. But when I put a CD in it, nothing happens. At first I thought I might've accidentally disabled autoplay but it was running, and on further inspection I noticed that the disk drive doesn't show up at all in 'This PC'. No matter where I look on the computer, I've checked all the drives and it seems to be missing everywhere, it's like it doesn't exist.

I wanna convert internal DVD drive to external dvd drive of my old hp dv6226tx laptop. For that I am looking to buy a DVD case / enclosure. But don't know whether to get ide or sata type.
HP G56-122US running Win 7. Bought a replacement 320 GB hard drive due being told by a repair shop that the hard drive had crashed and could not be recovered. Turned out to be the CPU, so I bought a hard drive enclosure so that I could use the new replacement hard drive as an external hard drive. Connected it to the computer and got messages that the software had installed and it was ready for use. Now, if I go to "control panel", click on "devices", it shows that it is installed and operating normally. However, if I try to use it by clicking on an item such as music, document, or a video, and click on "send to", it does not show up as one of the choices. Info that came with the enclosure says it is compatible with Win 7.
I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition 7720. It came with a preinstalled Windows 8 (so 64-bit and mandatory UEFI boot). I want to use Linux (more specifically, Archlinux) for work and Windows for games, so dual boot is needed.
I almost completed the Linux installation except for the bootloader: I need to boot Linux from UEFI and didn't manage to do it so far. Here is what I did after I received the PC:
-Disabled Secure Boot; updated BIOS to version A12 -Resized the main Windows partition and created a few partitions for Linux; -Switched to legacy boot mode and managed to boot a MBR-bootable Arch linux installation USB drive; -Installed most of the system switched back to UEFI boot mode, Secure Boot off.
At this time I needed to boot the kernel from UEFI for the bootloader installation program to have mandatory access to the EFI environment variables. So I created an UEFI-bootable Archlinux installation USB drive (with a FAT partition) but so far I couldn't manage to successfully boot this drive from UEFI instead of Windows 8.
I think I really tried every single combination, such as:
different USB ports; different boot entries created with F2 boot setup, with different parameters; different orders for the boot entries; hit my boot entries directly within F12 boot menu.
No matter what, in UEFI mode the system always boots the Windows partition.
Also, I could not find any relevant manual or software documentation about the A12 BIOS on the Dell site, did I miss something?
The solution that the user described in this thread to UEFI-boot to a DVD did not work for me with a USB drive.
i could hear something rattling inside but laptop was working fine so i just left it alone. But 2 days ago it seems that harddrive completely stopped working, windows is not booting up and in bios it says it didnt detect any harddrive. So i opened botom cover to see if maybe that rattling was some loose screw and that made harddrive not work and there was a loose screw and i screw it back in (it was just a screw on the bottom not the one that holds harddrive. But my harddrive seems to not work at all and making weird noises when i turn laptop on.
I had bought a Dell Inspiron 3520 three weeks ago from Best Buy ( stupid) and the hard drive is no longer working. I didn't opt for the warranty (dummy me). Which hard drive I should buy to replace it.
