I'm encountering having just purchased my laptop. None are dealbreakers and I'm not that put off by them but the fact that I'm not able to figure out a solution bothers me. Primarily, no matter what power setting I'm on or settings I change the display will turn off after 1 minute. Ther other power settings still come into play when they should (computer sleeps etc.) but I'm not able to delay the screen turning off.
View 5 RepliesI just got my lenovo thinkpad edge e420 and after about a month of using it the on screen display for volume, microphone, camera, etc the f buttons has stopped showing up on my screen. I had not updated any drivers or anything i think i may have uninstalled one of the programs for this by accident i am not sure....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed two new memory modules (4 GB each) but my laptop only recognizes one of them. I've tried researching how to change the RAM voltage in BIOS to see if that will allow the laptop to recognize both memory modules but can't find out how to do so.

I've had several laptops but I am hating this one and is basically the Fn Keys and F# Key. I am pretty customed to use keys like F4(invoking word magic), F5 (update), Alt+F4 (closing windows)...
So, now I have to press Fn + F4 Keys, Fn + F5 Keys and Fn + Alt + F5 Keys....
So is there a way to continue pressing just F4 F5 and that's it?
I have an E420, I use the functions keys F1-F12 100 times more than I do for volume, monitor, etc. I find it annoying and frustrating that when I do decide I want to change the volume I always get a pop that prompts me to change the behavior. How can I disable this annoying popup without losing the special key functionality?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am planning to upgrade my RAM on my E420(1141CTO). It already has a 4 Gb on one slot. Couple of questions here.
1. What is the max RAM I can go upto on this E420 (Intel i3 2nd Gen) laptop.
2. As I have 4 GB on one slot can I put one 8Gb RAM (single module) on the other slot.
3. What brand of RAM I can use.
4. On this model can I fix another RAM myself easily or asking it the other way are the slots placed such that I can do it easily by merely oepning a couple of screws or do I have to tear everything apart.
5. Any other special considerations like about clock speed ?
My Thinkpad boots successfully but then I cannot use either the keyboard or the mouse. No input at all possible. Even alt ctl del does not work. I have rebooted many times. I tried booting in SAFE MODE but that has not worked either. I do not have a recovery DVD at this location.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just updated my drives for AMD Radeon HD6630M with new beta2 catalyst but now i cant switch graphic cards. I tried to go into CCC - Method switchable graphics selected Manualy switch GPU pressed apply and nothing happend. Atleast i tried to uninstal this CCC isntal the old one and tried again. Problem remains and now im sad about this becouse my games are now useless . I can just select which GPU i want for aplications but its bad cause my fps dropped. I just realized before windows score with randomly switching cards for aplications is just 6,3 for games and 4,9 for other stuff. Before i have 6,7 for both becouse i selected the AMD GPU FOREVER.

It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have.Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.

How can one find if it is booting at all since there is no HDD indicator in E40..??
I have a user with a 68855TU. Using Windows 7 64 bit.
When running dual screens and connecting to the Terminal server with Dual screen, dragging the mouse cursor to the top of the laptop screen the image on both screens will move a couple of inches.
Solutions tried so far:
-Tried lowering resolution of the screens on the client side. Issue still happened.
-Checked the driver driver. Going through Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings, under one of the tabs there was a check box for "auto scroll function". Tried with and without this checkmark with no change. Left it off, the way I found it.
-In the RDP software, checked the "Use all my monitors for the remote session" (It was off, but all screens seemed to be getting used). Scrolling still happened. Turned this off. Only only monitor got the connection, and no scrolling.
-Also tried changing the display config down a step in the RDP connection. Given the laptop screen size and no scrolling happened with that setup.
-Tried using only laptop screen. No Scrolling.
-Tried using only the external screen. No scrolling.
-Used the Lenovo software to check for driver updates. None found.
-Downloaded the latest driver from Lenovo. Driver from April this year. Updated the computer. Reboot. Scrolling still happens.
-Tried to install the latest Intel drivers for the video chipset. Get the message that it has not yet been approved for use by manufacturer.
I have a Thinkpad Edge E520. The volume and brightness keys are working, but the on screen display I used to have is gone. I tried everything I could find on the web, still not working.

Not the Volumn icon in the task bar, I lost the display that shows the volumn going up or down on the screen. The video support suggested installing Power Management but this did not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, also did not work.

Heres a video I made to demonstrate the ammount of flex on the edge to edge lid. It does have flex and bend, but its not as bad as the one j3n82 reported. I recorded with an iPhone so the video quality is crap. Also forgot I had left it in portrait mode when I recorded it (I didn't have a tripod so I used a cup lol). But I hope it gives some of you a basic idea of the quality. I thought openning the blinds to allow the vertical lines will show the bend/flex a lot more. I was applying quite a bit of pressure, although it doesn't seem like I was in the video. I felt as if any harder I might have damage something, or maybe pop the edge to edge screen out. I used an 8lb dumbell, I think thats the limit.
If you noticed the cloth I used to cover the keyboard when I closed the screen, I did this this to avoid getting the smudges on the screen when I pushed the lid down onto the keyboard.
At the end of the video I tried showing the Edge to Edge display, notice how theres another layer of screen over the bezel. Thats the difference between the edge to edge.
I've got an E520 here that doesn't seem to want to display anything on the built-in screen, unless I've hooked the device up to an external monitor. I've attempted the following:
1.) Windows Key + P to change the display. (No good)
2.) Updated drivers. (No good)
3.) Changed primary monitor. (No good)
4.) Changed to Extended display, duplicate, single. (No good)
I'm not quite sure what else to do.
I have recently bought ThinkPad E540 with OneLink Pro Dock, in which I have connected my LG Flatron IPS236 external display. LG's max resolution is Full HD 1920x1080, but for some reason my external display's max resolution is only 1280x1024. The display is attached to the OneLink Pro Dock's DVI port. I have both updated the graphic card's drivers and LG monitor's drivers and booted the system. I have also tried using both 75 hertz and 60 hertz refresh rates.

My question is how these poorly sealed screens get by dell's quality control? Thank god i got the 2 year onsite on top of the 1 year return to depot. I think ill be using it alot for this problem right now im not gonna worry about it. I will wait for another problem to pop up but if that dosent in 6 months ill just have it replaced again. Anyone else have a poorly sealed screen on the Studio xps 16?
View 10 Replies View RelatedA lot of laptops now a days are sporting the edge to edge display, which imo is pretty cool lookin. I think Apple was one of the first to implement this in their notebooks so thats why I'm posting here.
But are these edge to edge displays really glass? I went to bestbuy to find out.
Checking out all the laptops from HP, Dell, and Apple, all their displays showed some form of flex when pushing on the center of the screen with my index finger. I'm no expert or anything, but glass is not supposed to flex at all.
Apple's notebook had the least amount of flex and probably is glass cause its so thin, whereas the Dell studio xps13 flexed so much it was unbelievable. I'm surprised this was not brought up in reviews.
Just to make sure it wasn't in my head I did the same thing to the imacs, and those screens were rock solid. Without a doubt are covered in glass.
So whats you're take on Apple's notebook? Glass or not?

I went to the Control Panel > Systems and Security > Power Options - Choose when to turn off display, for Battery and Plugged in I set to 20 minutes. As long as I'm active with the keyboard or mouse I'm fine but if I'm just reading or studying something on the screen, without any activity, the display will shut down in a minutes time, which is very irritating. Is there something else I need to do to keep my display on for a longer period of time?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv7-6c95dx laptop and the display is out of whack. Black is shown as blue and there are even red dots where some other color should be. LCD screen is a replacement screen and I have already switched out the lcd cable that connects to the lcd screen. When picture is displayed on an alternate screen, the picture is 100% fine. I was thinking the lcd inverter may be busted but I couldn't find a replacement inverter anywhere online for this model.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was initially trying to get my DVD to play blu rays. I downloaded a different player and uninstalled the HP mediasmart dvd. This didn't work so I deleted the new player and went into restore system to an earlier time and did so. After I restarted my computer it began randomly turning off and by that I mean the screen. It goes black. I click enter or left clidk the mouse (this seems to prompt it) then after 5 seconds or so the lights on the right side start blinking and the display returns. This has happened before and I forget the solution. Also, my battery died about a month ago so I removed it.

I have lenovo thinkpad R60 laptop. Few days back i used to get error message saying stuck key 44 when i turn on the laptop and when i press esc key it used to boot. After some days my laptop is not turning on with battery. But when i put the adapter connected and on the A/C current, then my laptop is turning on.i did not work with my laptop for 2 days and when i turn on the laptop without external power supply it turned on with the battery. Then i worked it for 4 days with the battery and in the time when i am not working with laptop i used to charge the battery for 1 1/2 hour. suddenly i am again getting the same problem i.e laptop is not turning on with battery but turning on with external power supply. i have read some of the forums and i removed my battery and pressed on the power button for 50 seconds and immediately put the battery and turned on the laptop, but is not working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo like many V570 owners I encountered the same problem where the laptop does not turn on anymore. I'm not on warranty anymore so I couldn't send it in to Lenovo either. Based on what I read, this issue appears when the laptop goes to sleep (closing down the lid when the laptop is on, or letting the laptop sleep when you're not using it for a while).
So I was thinking, "Hmm it doesn't make sense to replace the motherboard just because the hard drive is on sleep". Why not just pull out the hard drive and memory cards and put it back in? So I unscrewed the smaller cover on the back of the laptop and unscrewed the hard drive (one screw), pulled out the hard drive (slide it backwards and pull out) and also pulled out the two memory cards (that are on the right side).
Then I simply put the hard drive back in and the memory cards back in place. Screwed the cover back on there and it TURNED ON!
First thing I did after that was go into the Power Options in Windows 7 (just search "Power Options" from the start menu) and went to "Choose what closing the lid does" and changed all the selections that said "Sleep" or "Hibernate" to either "Shutdown or Do Nothing".
NOTE: The down side is that you probably can't Sleep or Hibernate your laptop anymore. I'm trying to see if there's a BIOS update for this but the Lenovo Support website is not loading at the moment.
The UPSIDE is your laptop WORKS and you're not gonna be spending $$$ for an unecessary "motherboard' that they say they'll replace.
