View 3 RepliesI have an R52 Thinkpad running XP that was "virgin" (not connected to the web) until I did some updates to get a new optical mouse installed. Below are the updates:

TrackPoint Accessibility driver for Windows 98/SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 - ThinkPad 2006-02-06
Also a mouse driver from Microsoft for the Wireless Optical Mouse 3000: IP32Eng6.30.191.0.exe
The optical mouse still doesn't work, but I have a new problem: I can't remove the CD from my CD/DVD drive. I push the button - no light - no open - no nothing.
If I close the lid it goes to sleep and when I open the lid it is resuming . If I don't close the lid and it goes to sleep I can't wake him up, tried pushing the blinking power button, keys, trackpad nothing works...

Ive tried it through the control panel and also the keyboard strip but nothing works. I have updated the laptop to latest config but that also dint work. Without the settings window, i cant disable the dynamic feature which creates so many issues with unnecessary key presses.

I dont see any SSD drive in the eplorer nor in the Computer Management utility. I would like to understand what is stored on my SSD and how to best utilize this for best performance. I may want to run games/OS/applications from the SSD to get that quick read times.
My Z710 (purchased in April 2014) makes a horrendous buzzing noise when reading a DVD. It appears to be just the DVD faceplate. Oh, and the eject button doesn't work either... so you have to eject through the windows file mgr device control. Neither problem is earth shattering/fatal, but bugs me enough to write this post. Does Lenovo ship a replacement drive in cases like this? I wouldn't dare send in the entire laptop just to have the DVD drive replaced.
BTW, installed Win7x64 on a samsung pro SSD, and this thing is very snappy now. Love the laptop so far with the exception of the track pad which is just about unbearable.
I have this beautiful laptop and I picked up an SSD since it doesn't come with one. I am placing it in the Caddy.
Is there a way to move Windows 8 to the SSD? I can't use a download an ISO from Microsoft since the serial is licensed to the machine. I would like to put it on a USB, or just install straight to the SSD.
I have OKR working for me beautifully. However, when I choose "System Recovery", it only presents me with selecting from C: or D: (partitions on the only internal HDD). It does not let me choose backups that it itself created on my external USB HDD ( F: ).
How do I tell OKR to select a backup that it created on an external USB HDD?
I bought the laptop with it windows (without Bitlocker) ....

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy sons laptop has died and needs returned for warranty work - likely a problem with the mother board. It was suggested that we backup files on the hard drive before sending. I pulled the hard drive and attached it to another computer via Serial ATA to USB cable. A portion of the hard drive can be accessed through Windows Explorer which shows 25GB of the 750GB hard drive and only shows an applications and a drivers folder. Word documents, data and pictures cannot be found.
I tried to take ownership of the hard drive thinking that this might make the data visible but it did not. I expect there is about 150GB of file storage (excluding programs) that we would like to back-up. Am concerned that the hard drive may have been damaged but the data that is accessible seems to be whole and intact.
I just got a new Lenovo W540. I installed a new Samsung EVO SSD inside to replace the stock mechanical hard drive. I'm now trying to boot from a flash drive to clean install Windows. I've done this so many times before on other laptops and desktops without a problem. For some reason now it will not boot from the flash drive. It shows it as available in the BIOS but it looks like it reads it for just a second and then goes right back to the screen that allows me to choose which drive I want to put to.The same flash drive works fine in other computers to boot to.I did check to make sure the USB drive was not excluded in the BIOS and it is not.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my W510, the CD drive will not read any media. It sounds like it's trying to spin up but then comes to a grinding halt and repeats this a few times before giving up. Though in My Computer it does show up as an Audio CD so it might be able to read a little bit.
Here's a recording of the sound [URL] ....
Is the drive able to be fixed?
I have a G710 (about a year old). I had some Windows problems recently and luckily managed to sort these out but I have recently discovered that my CD/DVD drive is not recognised by various programs. I have run Lenovo solution centre and that points me towards Windows Device Manager. That says that 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'. am not confident with this sort of thing but I really need to get this working.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently got an ultrabay adapter and wanted to know if I could run two separate OSs, one from each hard disc.
Effectively, I would like to have one version of windows on the internal HDD for general day to day stuff and one as a programming environment and be able to select which to boot from at start up.
I know I could just use a VM, but some of this stuff (Siemens PCS7) can put quite a strain on the system and I'd rather not have that overhead.
i could hear something rattling inside but laptop was working fine so i just left it alone. But 2 days ago it seems that harddrive completely stopped working, windows is not booting up and in bios it says it didnt detect any harddrive. So i opened botom cover to see if maybe that rattling was some loose screw and that made harddrive not work and there was a loose screw and i screw it back in (it was just a screw on the bottom not the one that holds harddrive. But my harddrive seems to not work at all and making weird noises when i turn laptop on.

In fact DVD Drive has worked properly about 10 months and now disappeared from BIOS. DVD is also not visible in Device Manager.
DVD Drive is integrated in laptop. When I push the DVD’s button, LED indicator flashes and tray ejects. When I place a CD and close the tray, the LED indicator starts blinking and a noise of rotating can be heard. After several seconds the blinking stops first and noise after that.
My question is if there is any way to check whether the DVD Drive is really broken and needs replacement or something in my BIOS settings is wrong?
The BIOS was recently updated to the newest version available in Lenovo Support. That caused no problems with DVD Drive and it worked normally.
A week ago I updated successfully Windows 7 Professional x86 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 via Windows Anytime Upgrade (not using DVD). After that I haven’t use the DVD drive until today. I am not sure if it is possible that Window upgrade to cause DVD Drive to disappear from BIOS.
Computer is Lenovo G500, Product: 20236, Serial: xxxxx, BIOS: 78CN23WW(V2.03)
I have a Y570 with Ssd and Hdd, I installed windows 7 to hdd then all drivers. My SSD was left unaloccated, when I installed rapid drive it said failed!!! Can i just simply physically remove the drive and reinstall the drivers saved on it to my HDD or is there other things that need to be done first like disabling intel RST.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFrom time to time, nearly every day lately, my computer will get an alert in the system tray that the SATA drive is disconnected. It will then freeze and not come back. I have to restart the computer and then I get a blue screen that says "INVALID BOOT DEVICE". Windows will then send me in to the system recovery screen where my only option really is to do a system refresh. I have also tried the Lenovo One Key Recovery. At this point the computer is like having a new copy of Windows on it.
Lenovo support says this is a software issue and my "warranty" doesn't cover it. The computer is only 5 months old and has had this problem for 2 months.
The computer will work for a short time, sometimes up to a week and will do it again. Lately I'm having to do this nearly every day, sometimes twice a day. I've tried updating the drivers, not updating the drivers (after a refresh), doing all the windows updates or not doing any updates at all and the results seem to be the same no matter what.
I just updated my bios on my Z510, and now the only boot options i have is network boot, something that i don't use. I used the bios update tool that Lenovo is distributing from the drivers page for my PC.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Ideapad G710 with 1TB Serial ATA 2, 5400rpm with advertised speed of 3 Gb/s (= 384MB/s). I am running Windows 7 ultimate x64 with SP1.
When I test hard drive read/write speed (I used CrystalDiskMark) I get results of about 100MB/s, which is 3-4 times slower than it should be. I am not running any resource heavy applications (Resource monitor reports Disk I/O to be 0 most of the time in idle state). I have 3 partitions, each with 16-32GB paging file size and all are >90% empty. All partitions have been defragmented before testing.
Is this normal? Are there any lenovo drivers or utilities than I might be missing or that can slow/speed this?
