View 1 RepliesHow do I get foreign characters from the Character Map using the ALT+... method? For example, the Character Map tells me that to get the small letter "a" with a tilde (ã), I should type "Keystroke: Alt+0227". How do I actually type this and get this numeric code?On older computers, I could access a 10-key numeric set of keys.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just bought brand new Ideapad s210 touch. But touchscreen is not working.
What I did so far:
- instal all windows 8 updates - still not working,
- update to 8.1 and update - still not working.
Check my hardware in control panel - everything seems to be ok - but maybe I dont know where to look ?
Maybe same drivers are needed ?
I have a brand new IdeaPad S210 (model 20257) with a UK keyboard. Basically, the backslash ('') and hash ('#') keys don't work. I tried switching to US keyboard layout as a test, but they don't work there either. Everything else seems fine.
Is this fixable by updating the drivers or something? Or do I have to return the whole machine as faulty?...
I bought my S210 about 6 months ago. ever since ive bought it, an annoying flashing circle pops up now and then in the botton left corner...its causing the page to change if im reading something on kindle. it opens any tab that is under it...whilst im typing it will open any other program...it keeps causing the cursor to go in to the bottom left corner as well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Lenovo Ideapad S210 a couple of month ago. When I start using the touchscreen everything works for a couple of seconds and then randomly bubbles with about a half inch diameter start popping up, usually in a horizontal fashion across my screen. These bubbles that I am referering to are the visual effect when a finger touches the screen. So far these rogue bubbles seem to spawn whenever I start using the touchscreen, and keep me from controlling my cursor with my track pad, touch screen, or an external mouse once they appear. The only thing that works then is to shutdown the laptop, which is a big annoyance.
It is running on Win 8 default settings.
I have a: Lenovo Ideapad y510p
With: Windows 8
My problem:I can't type and move my mouse (trackpad, touchpad, whatever) at the same time. This means i have to use a USB mouse to play most video games.
My S210 continuously is loading thumbnails when I turn it on. Just started yesterday. How to reset it? It doesn't respond to any commands and only can shutdown or restart by going to task mgr.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a S210 netbook with MS DOS preinstalled. I tried installing various systems (Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10), but all of them give the "bios is not fully acpi compliant" message and quit installation.
I tried updating the bios, but the only version I could find [URL]... is an .exe file, so I can't flash it from usb.
By mistake during resizing I deleted OEM partiton which stored One Key Recovery and want it back now. I googled a lot and read about setting partition id but since the partition is entirely deleted it doesnt even work after setting partiton id. I have s210 Touch and One kEy Recovery 8..

Some keys are not responding and some keys are giving me two charecters. For example, when I press T, it writes R and 5 and the key I is not responding. I did system restore, last known good configuration, repair etc, but the problem is still there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got couple of days old Lenovo IdeaPad z50-75, running on AMD FX-7500.First I jsut now noticed that my CPU runs at 1.07 Ghz, before it was always over 2 Ghz or so which was good ... but maybe I touched something some where in powr settings or something and now it stays on 1.07 even when cpu pretty much utilised. I have set power plan to high performance and also Energy manager is set to high performance mode and Conservation mode is on. why it doesn't clock itself up ? I feel that it is slower than before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn a few days I'll get my IdeaPad U310, and since it comes with 4GB DDR RAM, I'd like to do a upgrade to 8 GB. I understand it only has one slot for RAM, so I'll buy one stick of course, but I don't know if it's the same size as used in a desktop PC, or is it some mini-sized RAM stick?
I also need to know the voltage of it, is it 1.5V or different?
Whenever I try to install the ELAN/Synaptics driver that I download from my laptop's support page I get an error saying: no Appropriate Driver to be installed.I'm on Windows 7 64bit...I've tried tons of drivers and I'm starting to get seriously annoyed. Non of them work all of them throw error messages and I'm getting more and more irritated with the obnoxious tap to click functionality. I don't even need the driver as I need the annoying tap to click disabled and maybe some kind of scrolling functionality would be nice if it's possible.

I recently recieved a y410p ideapad I ordered off the lenova website. However, it won't start up. When I try, it brings me to a blue screen with a sad face that says I need to do an automatic repair. This flashes for about two seconds before disappearing and the screen becomes grey and says "lenovo" and "Starting Automatic Repair". From this the screen goes completly grey, and has nothing on it. The computer stays this way for hours and the fan will continue to run. I've tried the reset button on the side and resetting the laptop, but no matter what I do I end up back at that grey screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am new here and to Lenovo products. The IdeaPad Z510 has Core i7 quad core processor which supports upto 32GB of RAM. Can I upgrade the the current 8 GB to either 16 GB or 32 GB? Or it's 8GB max?
The specific model is Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (59-398016)
I purchased this Ideapad Z50-70 laptop two days back. It was DOS based so I had to install Windows 8.1 OS myself. After installing the OS, I installed all the drivers for this laptop.
The display of the laptop is set to Full HD resolution i.e. 1920*1080. However, it doesn't look as sharp and crips as a normal HD display should be. The text and other things looks blurred. Also, the contrast of the screen doesn't seem well. Though the resolution is set to Full HD, I'm not feeling the quality smoothness and sharpness of the full HD display.
I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it. When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network. I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot. I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.
I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook. I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career.
I even downloaded the file efiootBOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....
Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks? How can I boot from USB?
I have 4gb of ram in my model, it is possible to increase the ram of this model? how many memory banks available to me? in case I had 2 I must have to fit a 8gb or 12gb in total I have to take by force from another 4gb?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it. Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the "Brightness minus" key.
Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.
I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the "Brightness" selection under "Settings". Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level.
Windows 8 64-bit is my OS.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver.
I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button. It was useless, though.
I have rebooted several times.
Just got the y510p laptop and am trying to install Ubuntu so I have this bootable DVD and I wanted to try Ubuntu before installing as usual but I can't get the laptop to bot on dvd. On boot menu options there is only EFI and some kind of network options but no dvd. I tried following instructions here but no matter how many times I press F1 during startup, I can't get to boot menu and windows starts directly: [URL] Is it not possible to boot on dvd. The dvd is ubuntu 13.10 supposedly compatible with EFI and secure boot. I don't understand why there is no option to reorder boot devices like on all my older PCs.
I manage to get BIOS setup pressing restart and shift and then selecting UEFI firware settings and I do get to bios setups but again no way to find the option for booting on a dvd.
I bought a y510p ideapad from newegg a couple days ago and recently got it. i've been trying to set it up and all that, trying to get rid of the programs that came preloaded with the laptop because I wouldn't think i'd need them. I then shut it, put it down and opened it again and now it won't turn on. It seems like both the power indicator and the battery indicator light are both on, as well as the power button light, but the monitor itself is blank and i can't hear the computer being on. I've tried holding down the power button and resetting it, as well as removing the battery and using only the AC to see if it would turn on but to no avail. I'm worried i might have deleted something important, but I was mostly deleting programs related to shoddy media players and other services of the like. It's pretty upsetting I just got this laptop and it's already died on me!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought my y510p brand new from Lenovo about 11 months ago. About 2 days ago, my fan suddenly started making a very loud buzzing/grinding noise. Prior to this, it was perfectly quiet. The fan makes this noise inconsistently, and at this point, leaving it on a flat surface keeps it quiet. However, any tilting or jostling of the laptop makes the fan start buzzing again. I have noticed that running the dust removal utility will stop the fan from buzzing, and this seems to be the only way to return it to producing a regular sound after it has started.
I really don't think my fan needs to be replaced, but I am unsure what is causing this problem. I have never dropped my laptop--and its spent almost its entire life on my desk. The only thing that's changed is I moved it after it had remained in the same spot for several weeks--because I am currently traveling.
The inconsistency of the noise and the newness of my computer tends to make me think the fan hasn't worn out yet.
Recently I purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Z510, model name 20287, MO: YB03120328. According to the specification from my reseller (Dutch webshop [URL] and the Lenovo box it was shipped in, this laptop should have a 1000GB hard disk + 8 GB solid state memory (SSD) for caching. My problem is that I am not sure if the 8 GB SSD is working.
The SSD does not show as a drive in "My Computer", it does not show in Window's Disk Management utility (see Figure 1), Intel's Rapid Storage Technology does not show the possibility of using the SSD to accelerate performance (see Figure 2) and when running ExpressCache (with the command "eccmd.exe -info") the program tells me "HFS Volume is not mounted" and "ECCmd exited with error 0x10df (4319)".
All these clues lead me to believe that in fact no 8 GB SSD is installed, or if it is, that it is not working properly. Any additional ways of testing I could use to confirm it is or is not working?
So my battery won't charge. I've only had this laptop for 9 months and 2 weeks ago the battery stopped charging.
