Sony :: I Miss The PgUp And PgDn Key! Anyway To Change And Move Fn Key?
May 21, 2009
I was wondering if anyone here knows how to somehow customize or some tricks to perform PgUp and PgDn key without having to press on Fn? because when I'm reading an article,
it's very troublesome to always use two hands left for the Fn key and right for the PgDn key everytime I wanted to go to the next screen.
It would be nice to move the Fn key to the right closer to the PgUp and PgDn key, so at least I only need to use my right hand to skip to the next screen.
The Vaio Z keyboards don't have separate PgUp and PgDn keys. You can still enter them when needed, but it's a two handed operation: holding down the Fn key with your left hand, while pressing the Up or Down arrows with your right hand. Personally, when I'm just browsing boards like this one, I find that that's too much work, as it is if I'm just lying on the couch and browsing the web while using my left hand to hold the unit. There's a free and easy fix. What I'll describe below will allow you to use two fingers of your right hand to enter PgUp and PgDn a lot faster and more conveniently.
Check out Keyboard Remapper. Download either the Free version (which is all that's needed for adding PgUp and PgDn), or the Complete version (for $10) if you want to do more complicated stuff. Have Windows Explorer extract the two files, then double-click on KeyRemapper. Clear the check mark where Windows indicates "Always ask when opening this file", click Run, and the configuration screen will appear.
To add PgUp, just click on the Add New Key Combination button, then the Next > button, letting you type in the key to be remapped. Hold down the right Ctrl key while you tap the cursor up-arrow key (you'll see the words Up+Ctrl.Right appear), then click on the Next > button. On this screen click the selector for Change Key To: and select "PageUp" from the long list of keys on the right. Click Finish, and you now have a PgUp key whenever you hold down the right Ctrl key while tapping the up arrow.
One thing I miss going from a Inspiron 6000 to a M1530 is the onscreen volume meter bar when you press the louder and softer volume buttons on the Media Bar. On my Inspiron 6000, a gui bar pops up when you adjust the volume using the media bar buttons to let you know exactly where your volume is set at. I don't even know when to stop pressing the volume up button because I don't know when the volume is maxed out on my M1530. Anybody know of a way to make the onscreen volume meter return?
I was wondering if I buy a Vaio with Windows 7, can I wipe it clean and install a different OS (Xp, or Linux) from my own CDs? Or does it only allow to install the OS that sony provided in the Recovery Partition?
I've done a search and couldn't find anything relevant.
My FZ of 28 months old has suddenly started making a faint buzzing noise from the screen.
At first I thought it was the fan, but I realized it's the LCD. I can't change the brightness for some reason using Windows 7 but it's on Max Bright. I've seen some threads of people having this problem on lowered brightness levels but this is happening on full.
When I shut the lid, the buzzing stops. It can be heard if I stand behind the laptop or place my ear beside either rear corner of the laptop.
I did a clean install of Windows 7. I did not load all that crap from the 2nd CD.I am trying to determine which Drivers I need to install.
I installed the VAIO® Event Service and Sony® Shared Library.
What is strange is, when I click on the FN button and press the increase brightness key, the brightness meter does appear on the screen, but it will not go above the lowest setting.
I own a Vaio VGN-FE770g, and I have recently upgraded my RAM to 2gb plus I bought a SanDisk 4GB Extreme IV Memory Stick Pro Duo to utilize the windows 7 readyboost utility.
I thought this would help with my gaming but it isn't the case. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I play Age of Empires III a lot and I still can't run it at any decent resolution without the screen freezing when a battle is taking place (any other time it is fine).
I looked into the Vaio's graphics capabilities and it said about the dynamic allocated RAM, which i further read can be modified (?). Could anyone offer a simple step by step how to do this? (or some insight as to whether it could/should be done at all).
I just recently purchased a used VGN-Z520n from ebay.
I noticed there is a small dent on the carbon fiber casing on the Keyboard.
I want to replace that part, but I actually like the black color on the new Z series. Is there a way I can purchase just the Black keyboard housing and replace it on my vaio?
I have a dv5, and lately I am having some problems when I move the screen lid, the screen glitches, horizontal green lines, blackouts or resizes, not always, but it does. Changed the video drivers, and still. I did not hit the notebook against anything.
This has just started to happen when booting in normal mode. I am currently typing in Safe mode as it doesn't freeze.
In normal mode the PC may or maybe not work for a while then it will freeze, I can still move the mouse cursor but nothing can/will be selected. I had task manager running and CPU was high load but not 100% and RAM wasn't maxxed either but an svchost.exe is taking around 50% CPU when idle
How do I move the active app on the screen with some keyboard shortcuts?
I really need some application that will move my windows where I want right away, resizing them at the same time.
My specific scenario is: I use an external 27" LCD with the MBP; I keep connecting and disconnecting the laptop over a day at work several time.
The problem is: I set up a window to be "that big" and to be on "that" part of the display, I set up other windows next to the first one (usually all documents, need to compare them side by side) and it looks and works fine on the big screen, but when I disconnect they are not keeping the side-by-side position (smaller of course, to fit on the 15" MBP display).
My wish: to press something like Ctrl+1 to move the active window to position 1,1 on the screen, with the windows size of 960 & 600; Ctrl+2 to move the active window to position 961, 1, with the size of 960x600. This way I would get the 2 windows side by side really easy.
I found several apps doing this(and much more) for Finder, but nothing for any window of any application that runs on Mac ...
I have no idea how hard is to code this on a Mac, fairly new with Macs; but I am ready to purchase a small utility that will accomplish those tasks ..
I own an HP 15 and i recently downloaded a game. when I opened the game and tried to play I was unable to press any button on my keyboard and move my touchpad at the same time. An example is that I was playing a first person shooter and i was unable to walk forward and aim at the same time. The touchpad would not let me aim unless i would stop moving (not pressing the w key.) I figured it was the numlock being enabled but after spending 2 or 3 hours searching on how to turn off the numlock such as using the on screen keyboard and using a combination of fn+ another key and I still have not succeeded in finding out what the problem is. Â Product name: HP 15 Notebook Product Number : FNH61UA#ABA Operating System: Windows 8.1
I've noticed that sometimes after using the pointing stick for a while that if I let go, the mouse pointer will continue to move in a direction on its own.
It will only last for a few seconds but it is annoying when trying to scroll through documents and such. Is this a touchcheck problem or a driver problem? Or is it hardware?
Our M1330's 6-cell battery warned recently that it needed replacing soon (was at something like 67% original capacity).
I turned off the warnings and hoped it would last sometime longer but now the system thinks no battery is connected and the battery's self-test LEDs do not illuminate at all.
I am not sure how easily I can get a new battery shipped to Africa and we have frequent power cuts (the system is on a surge protector which drops the power when it goes out. Usually a generator cuts in within 10 seconds to restore power but the surge protector refuses to provide power for about 5 mins).
So I need to change from using Standby to using Hibernate. Trouble is little disk space and no hibernate file left.
My N5110 laptop freezes if I pick it up or move it. I think there is some loose connection near the fan because it also freezes when I touch that part of the laptop. As far as I know there has been no damages to the laptop and it was working fine till yesterday.Â
When I try to move this laptop around or bump it just right it suddenly goes to sleep. When I say bump it I mean like having it on your lap and moving around to get comfortable will cause it to do this. Sometimes when you move it from your lap to a table it will just go to sleep.
I have removed and reseated the battery several times, no change.
I have run the online diagnostics, no issues found.
The touchpad of my Lenovo G50-70 (i3-4010U) is not working properly (windows 8.1). Sometimes when I use the touchpad, the arrow don’t move. Until it close and open the display, it’s don’t move. In addition, this method does not always work.i have gone to options and I've turned off touchpad options "two fingers" mode, but nothing change.Honestly speaking, I have still in function an old notebook pc (from 2007, not Lenovo!), I need my computer for travel work but this problem becomes very difficult my job.
I recently purchased a Lenovo y510p for college. I do not use it that often because i have a nice desktop at home and have not moved yet. When i do use it, it freezes 3-5 minutes after the start up. during the freeze i can move the mouse but when i click on anything nothing happens. When i mouse to the corners the normal windows 8 thing dont pop up. After it gets done freezing for a few minutes evertying i clicked on or did during the freeze pops up really fast.
I believe i have updated all my drivers. i unistalled mcafee and really only have a few things installed liked Steam, and Final Fantasy 14: A Real Reborn. Sometimes after the freeze windowns stops responding  and i have to hard reset. At that poing i somtimes get stuck in a boot loop and just have to keep resetting till it fixes itself. I also installed chrome.  I dont want to have to reistall windows or do a factory reset. i do have a warrenty but i start school in 2 days and cant really ship this anywhere. I dont have the serial number with me but i have the laptop with the duel graphics.
I've got an old Thinkpad R61i with a Western Digital "Blue" 320gb drive installed in it running Vista Premium.
I bought the drive from Zipzoomfly and installed it into the Thinkpad in January in order to bring back some life to the computer. And it worked; it's fast and quiet.
A few weeks ago, I bought a refurb E6400 from the Dell outlet store. It came with a 160gb hard drive installed.
It's a nice drive. But as the days tick away, I've been thinking of pulling the 320 from the Thinkpad and installing it into the E6400.
I'm mean what the heck, I'll get twice the space, and it's a Western Digital. It's a win win.
I finally upgraded to snow leopard and noticed that when I zoom into the screen, I can't move the zoomed-in portion of the screen around like I did in Leopard. Is there a way to enable movement?
I have a dell inspiron 15r. i am running windows 8. my touchpad when i tap to click it does nothing but moves across the screen. fine. how do i enable tap to click.
I have a problem with touchpad, when I slide my finger over it, pointer doesn't move smoothly, it is very laggy. When I connect my mouse, it works fine and smooth. I've tried to find some solutions on here but none of them worked. OS is Windows 8.1.
