I' am having trouble finding the Sony notebook setup program that normaly came with this notebook. I don't have the disk that came with these program so I will need to find another way to get this program. I have the PCG-R505ESP notebook that was made back around 2002. It has Windows XP installed.
View 7 RepliesI know that my notebook came with the Sony® Notebook Setup utility program but I lost this recovery disks that came with this notebook so I did have to buy Windows XP Home and did a clean installation of it. I did get the drivers from esupport.sony.com but I can't find the Sony Notebook Setup utility program.
Does anyone know how I can download this and install this on my notebook? It's a program that tells the specs of my PC.

I've replaced many drives on Sony's in the past (particularly since they didn't offer 7200 RPM large drives on many models previously) but I had the help of on online manual someone created on how to take the previous sony's apart and they all had IDE or SATA drives

I think Sony is quite poor in battery management area, they should provide a application list thinkpad to test the current then tell you how long it can last.

View 10 Replies View Relatedi'm planning on buying the new Z when its available and i decided if i'm spending that much money on a laptop i'm going to need a heavy duty case to carry it in. So the case i was thinking about carrying it in is a Pelican 1090cc or the Pelican 1080CC if the Z could fit. I just had a few questions, will the Z and the adapter fit or just the Z? and also will this case because it is padded, add to much pressure on the screen causing it to leave permanent marks for the keyboard or palm rest?

Round up:
1. Will the Z fit in the 1080cc?
2. Will the Z fit in the 1090CC?
3. Will the adapter fit in either or both?
4. Computer lining or Pick and pluck foam?
5. Will the pressure from the padding cause enough force for the screen to be permanently marked?

I was thinking about getting a Samsung SATAII 7200rpm( storage doesn't matter that much, I already own an external device, as long as it's not less than my current HDD ).
But I was told that my Vaio model, VGN FZ140E, doesn't support SATAII. So I'd have to choose a SATA 5400rpm HDD.
I'd like to ask you how can I check it this is true. If so, would changing my HDD be a noticeable upgrade?
Also, among these brands, which one would you choose( for better performance, low noise, low energy comsumption etc. ): Samsung, WD or Seagate?
I'd really like a SSD drive as I need speed over storage. So I'm wondering if it possible to install a SSD drive in a Vaio SR laptop. What do I do about drivers?
I have my choices down between a Lenovo X301 with a SSD and a Vaio SR210 without a SSD. I like the looks of the Vaio better, but I'm willing to pay for a SSD premium.

Trying to install OS with external CD/DVD drive to no avail. Have done everything possible including:
-tried 3 different externals drives
-attempted BIOS BOOT ORDER: BOOT FROM CD/DVD and tried REMOVABLE DEVICE setting
-attemped 'esc' one time BOOT ORDER at startup...attempted both CD/DVD and REMOVABLE DEVICE
System doesnt recognize EXTERNAL CD/DVD in BIOS....only in WINDOWS..after machine fully starts up. Looked for any kind of UPDATE for DRIVERS OR BIOS on SONY SUPPORT for this model...there is none.
I heard that you could buy cables to connect the xbox360 to a computer monitor which should also work on a laptop and I'd like to know if it was possible to connect the 360 to the F series notebooks?

I just have on board audio with sigmatel HD audio software. It will let me change my 2 audio and 1 mic port to all 3 audio ports for front, center, and rear.
I have this hidden partition on my notebook (aspire 6920G) and I have no idea what is it used for. I know that PQService is recovery partition but I've never heard of this. By googling I've found that HP's used to use Compaq Setup partition to boot bios (?), but this is acer. I would really like to get rid of it (because now I can't create another primary partition).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just recieved a new Alienware desktop which gives me everything I need in terms of a desktop windows setup. However I also have the 24" ultrasharp which has MANY inputs, so I was thinking of creating a desktop type setup with the macbook pro.
Here is what I was thinking I'd need:
1) DVI-D cable (is VGA good enough?)
2) laptop stand
3) bluetooth keyboard/mighty mouse
I should be able to run the 1900 x 1200 as an extended desktop or as people said if I shut the top it should run like a full out desktop correct?

Few questions if I may....
1.Does it use a regular 2.5 drive and is it easily accessible?
2. I would like to upgrade to Win 64 and wonder if a bios update necessary and, if so, available?
3.Are 64 bit drivers easily obtainable?
4.As I am fm Canada, it will have this terrible bilingual keyboard...Can it be replaced and is it a simple process?
5.Recovery Media... Does it come with a windows 7 reinstall disk? If so, does the disk contain both versions of Win (32bit/64bit) and can either be installed with the same key?
6.If not, are there free versions of 64 bit available on the internet, as was the case with Vista, where one could legally download and use their key for 32 bit successfully?
I have an issue with my acer 5520. When I press F2 and enter setup My computer will just shut off! It may take 5 seconds or even up to 20 seconds but I got on to change my login options and it just shut off. I did this several times and it shut off time after time. My computer never turns off when I load windows and run Vista. I don't know if I need to update my bios or what.
