I've never had a Vaio but I just wondered, does Sony replace the palm wrests under normal wear and tear?
I ask this because I hear a tiny bit of creaking in my right palm rest and the computer is only a few weeks old. I am worried this will get worse.
I also purchased and invisible shield to put on the palmrest but what is Sony's policy on palm rests?
where I can find a brandnew original one?

I have recently noticed my shiny silver paint on my beautiful M1210 has started to dull. The colour is still there but looking at it on an angle with a light you can see that the shiny-ness is fading . I'm a student in secondary school and i dont work so i dont have a very good budget to work with... View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I use my HP Bluetooth mouse the right palm area of the laptop gets really hot. Has anyone else experienced this? Is is normal? That area does not seem to get hot when using the trackpad, just the BT mouse.
I think I'm going to switch to a non-bluetooth wireless mouse.
I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.
I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.
I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.

I just made the long-coveted switch to the Mac world and I ended up getting the 13" white macbook just this past Sunday.
Long story short, I had to fill out a questionnaire for something, pen had spilled some ink into my hand, unknowingly, and I went back to my computer to finish typing up this report, took my hand off and then BLAMMO, blue ink stain.
I did a search and saw recommendations of toothpaste and isopropyl alcohol. Would these be good to try out or are there other remedies you guys can teach me?
I swung by the apple store recently, and checked out their 15" mbp (since the 17" wasn't/isn't in store yet). I put my hand over the palmrest to check out the keyboard layout and that particular laptop's left side palm rest area was pretty darn hot!
This brought up 2 concerns:
1) With the heat and the skin/oil contact with the aluminum surface, will that ruin the paintjob faster? is there even a paintjob or is the silver color the aluminum's natural and only color?
2) Regardless if the paint comes off or not, is there a way to make it cooler and more comfortable to type/game on? For those that play fps games or WoW, we all know our left hand is pretty much in the same spot, and if our wrists are constantly getting a spa treatment, it's not going to be very comfy. I know there was that ilap whatever thing you place under the laptop to diffuse the heat from concentrating on your laps, so I wonder if there's something like that for the hands.
I just recently placed an order for a Studio 1737 (replacing an Inspiron E1705). It comes with a 1 year warranty.
I'm debating whether it's worth spending $200+ to upgrade to a Dell 3 year warranty or should I get a 3 year Square Trade Warranty for less than $150 (I can get one for around $120 after a coupon)?
My z690CTO is on it's way and I purchased a SONY 3 years extended warranty.Now if I do decide to upgrade myself let's say the HDD will this
void the warranty or not?
I'm going to be ordering the Vaio SR today or tomorrow. I can't decide whether to spend an extra $129 on an extra year warranty

Since I picked up my laptop from Amazon, I cannot get ADH.
I feel pretty strongly about having ADH coverage and am curious if any of you have picked this up through a third party. In particular I would like something that will cover the machine from:
Normal mechanical failure
Water damage
Being dropped/sat on
So I just recently purchased my new Sony VAIO and I was wondering if there is anything I need to do to get warranty activated?
Or is it something where I just need to keep the receipt and in case there is an accident in the future I just provide a copy of the receipt?
I was thinking of picking up an SR or Z and was wondering if the sony warranties that you can buy at provantage can be applied to these notebooks. It doesn't seem like there is any provision. I called Provantage and spoke to Sony over their online chat but they were unsure.
Has anyone else purchased one of these warranties for their SZ or Z series? If so, how did it work.
Does upgrading the HDD void the warranty? How easy is it to upgrade?

I assumed that this warranty would be automatically linked to my laptop serial and i would just be able to call up sony and initiate a repair after the 1 year manufacturers warranty expired. However,
from reading forum posts it seems I was supposed to have received warranty documents and I was supposed to have activated the warranty within a certain time period. However, these documents weren't included with my shipment
I want to order myself a FW490 but the problem is I have to go study in London soon and the warranty wont cover outside the us. after a few months of heavy usage i noticed the aluminum band was beginning to pit.
i use my computer for web design so i am on it hours on end. the pitting began as a few dots, and i tried to use the computer with my external keyboard to prevent more damage

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust received a Z610y as a college graduation gift, but it was not purchased with an extended warranty. I'm accident-prone, and am interested in a 3 year extended warranty with ADH.
I talked to someone at Sony Style who said I could purchase the warranty up to 30 days from the date of sale. I noticed newegg.com has one for sale, but when I talked to an associate there, they said it was only for sale with the purchase of a new laptop.
Just an FYI. I recently bought a Vaio NW from Best Buy using a credit card. I always use my card to pay for day-to-day expenses to collect the miles. I called the card company and they told me that they automatically extend the manufacturer's warranty for an additional year (effectively doubling Sony's) and if the computer is damaged due to mishandling or some other unfortunate incident, they will repair or replace for free. I did not pay any additional money for this.
Now, I don't know how good their repair services will be and I hope to never find out.
But I am glad that I did not spend the large amount to extend the warranty through Sony or Best Buy. Food for thought for you. It may be a good idea for all of you to check with your card company to see if they cover you.
I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below.

I designed this Skin for my 13 MBP, and I also had designed one for my moto droid. so shipping was free, the MBP was 30 and the Droid was 20. It took a little bit of patience to install but overall not that bad.
Quality was decent, it looked like there was a little crease in the skin, but it went away after installing it. The skit itself seems pretty tough it seems to fit well. Took these pics with my Droid, so they arent top notch
