I have recently noticed my shiny silver paint on my beautiful M1210 has started to dull. The colour is still there but looking at it on an angle with a light you can see that the shiny-ness is fading . I'm a student in secondary school and i dont work so i dont have a very good budget to work with... View 11 RepliesI swung by the apple store recently, and checked out their 15" mbp (since the 17" wasn't/isn't in store yet). I put my hand over the palmrest to check out the keyboard layout and that particular laptop's left side palm rest area was pretty darn hot!
This brought up 2 concerns:
1) With the heat and the skin/oil contact with the aluminum surface, will that ruin the paintjob faster? is there even a paintjob or is the silver color the aluminum's natural and only color?
2) Regardless if the paint comes off or not, is there a way to make it cooler and more comfortable to type/game on? For those that play fps games or WoW, we all know our left hand is pretty much in the same spot, and if our wrists are constantly getting a spa treatment, it's not going to be very comfy. I know there was that ilap whatever thing you place under the laptop to diffuse the heat from concentrating on your laps, so I wonder if there's something like that for the hands.
I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.
I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.
I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.

I just got this laptop about a week ago and i love it, but the only issue i am seeing is the paint on the top of the lid. I have the crimson red paint and its fine, but in the cracks where the red meets the silver is less than great, does anyone else have this issue where the paint in the cracks on the left and right of the laptop looks poor?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo after only 3 months, the paint has chipped off one corner of my e6500, leaving a freckle-sized spot of bare silver metal exposed. I'm not sure how it happened, since I didn't bang or scuff that corner, but it happened... anyhow, I'd like to fix it, if possible.
I tried coloring the spot in with a black Sharpie, but the ink just kept rubbing off.
I'm thinking perhaps black touch-up paint for a car might do the trick, but I've never used touch-up paint on anything before so I don't know A.
My Latitude, barely 2 months with me, has it's speaker grill paint peeling off. It started with the right speaker grill and now the left one's starting to peel as well and its even bigger than the right one.
Anyone have any idea what type of paint I can use to fix it? I don't have the onsite luxury and I would really hate to send it to Dell just for cosmetic repair.

I have a new Dell Latitude. When I first started working with it, a box asked if I wanted the screen to adjust to ambient light. Being new at this, I said yes. Now, I have a monitor which is constantly getting brighter and dimmer even within a few seconds.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.

The strange thing is, the screen doesnt fade to darkness, instead it is as if the contrast changes before returning to normal again.

I suppose I'm going to have to do without a computer now to send this in to get it replaced instead of HP just sending me a replacement keyboard... Why do they insist on everything being sent into them? A keyboard replacement takes all of 5 minutes to do.

Long story short, I had to fill out a questionnaire for something, pen had spilled some ink into my hand, unknowingly, and I went back to my computer to finish typing up this report, took my hand off and then BLAMMO, blue ink stain.
I did a search and saw recommendations of toothpaste and isopropyl alcohol. Would these be good to try out or are there other remedies you guys can teach me?
Is there any way to preserve finish of the Sony Vaio FW, particularly on the mouse buttons and where the palm-rest is, I hear the silver stippled paint finish wears away leaving bare white plastic underneath.

It has the 1600x900 screen which I've heard some criticism of (I heard something about it having a one-lamp "eco" screen) but I don't know if that applies to the model I bought or how good the eco screen is.
If I can get a skin that is precut for that laptop's dimensions in particular (nothing fancy, just black would be good), that would be awesome.

As others with x230's have found, I have an issue with the screen fading/graying out then developing vertical lines over the entire screen. Pressing the screen bottom screen border resolves it for a split second then it occurs again, though resolves usually after pressing it at various points along the plastic lower edge maybe 3-6 times, sometimes with slight flickering of whites after. I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately.It appears to be the LCD connector or cable.Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below.

I designed this Skin for my 13 MBP, and I also had designed one for my moto droid. so shipping was free, the MBP was 30 and the Droid was 20. It took a little bit of patience to install but overall not that bad.
Quality was decent, it looked like there was a little crease in the skin, but it went away after installing it. The skit itself seems pretty tough it seems to fit well. Took these pics with my Droid, so they arent top notch

Is it normal that dell.ca would have fewer choices of screens than dell.com? I'm looking at the studio 15, and dell.com lists Hi Resolution/Bright,
glossy widescreen 15.4 WLED display (1440x900) as a choice, which is what I want, but dell.ca doesn't. When I view the system specs though, that choice is listed as on option.
I have a Dell Latitude E6530 and when I plugged in my monitor and keyboard into the docking station, they were not recognized. But I can plug them into the laptop while docked and they are recognized.

my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?
2 how can I change the boot priority order, to install mint ?
