I have a new Dell Latitude. When I first started working with it, a box asked if I wanted the screen to adjust to ambient light. Being new at this, I said yes. Now, I have a monitor which is constantly getting brighter and dimmer even within a few seconds.

I have a Latitude E6510 that will not start. When pressing the power button, the power light goes on for about 5 seconds and then turns off. I also notice the battery light flashes a few times when re-connecting the AC adapter.
Removed the battery, held in the power button 30 seconds, but still not working.
We have had this laptop about 6 months. About a month ago, it exhibited this problem. After talking to Dell Support, they recommended a system board replacement. The laptop was sent in and the board was replaced. When I got it back and tried to start it for the first time, it did the same thing. I then pressed the Latitude "ON" button, and the laptop started.
Now it is doing the same thing, and I find it hard to believe that another system board is bad. I am suspicious about this "ON" feature, that maybe the laptop is "stuck" or something trying to get into the "ON" mode. Or maybe it is just trying to get into "ON" mode.
I am not sure what the "ON" feature does, but I have noticed a few other posts on the internet of users having the exact same problem. Again--I find it hard to believe a second system board could be bad.
My Latitude D800 laptop recently had trouble to turn on. When pressed the power button (no matter how hrad or hard long to press), nothing happened, totally dead, power light didn't turn on at all. I tried with battery (two batteries) only, AC power only and both, same thing, but sometimes it could be turned on when I waited for a while or came back later and tried again.

a) a screen that could only be seen with the correct reflected light; and
b) outboard screen working perfectly.
This is what I did:
a) tried a known replacement inverter board and this didn't solve the problem;
b) tried a known working LCD screen and this didn't work;
c) checked the video cable and it looks fine; and
d) since there's no screen switch that might be stuck and I'm assuming that all functions are software controlled.
I did a clean install of xp pro. Still no good. I looked for a SMD e.g. a fuse and found none.
how I can activate the keyboard backlit light. Was part of my build. Tried Fn + right arrow and cntl + right arrow, but no change. I have latitude E5530 win 8.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up my laptop to use two (2) external monitors (both Dell monitors). I am using a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop that has an external VGA connection as well as an HDMI connection. I can currently use the laptop LCD screen as one display and an external monitor (either VGA or DVI) as the second, or I can use both external (VGA and DVI) as my extended output. But I am unable to get it to work with all three. Is this a hardward limitation? or Setup limitation? Do I need third party software to accomplish that?
The laptop is running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.
I have recently noticed my shiny silver paint on my beautiful M1210 has started to dull. The colour is still there but looking at it on an angle with a light you can see that the shiny-ness is fading . I'm a student in secondary school and i dont work so i dont have a very good budget to work with... When I connect the charger just to a power socket the green light on the charger comes on but when I plug the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still does the same thing, and in both cases the laptop will not power up and no light appears on it.

I have noticed that loudness of the noise is inversly proportional to load and temperature. When PSU is cold and notebook is idling - it makes the strange noise. When PSU cold and noteboot is under moderate load - it stops making it. When PSU is warm (about 30 deegres of celsius) and is idling - i need to PSU at front of my ear.
The noise seems to coming from AC connector's side (Where PSU have connector for AC cable). PSU doesn't make this noise when i put it off from notebook.
Why PSU does make such noise? Why it is inversly proportional to temperature and load ? This is dangerous to me and my notebook ?
Exactly it looks like:
1. I turn on my notebook under AC, the PSU is making "click sound" till it become warmer.
2. After that there is buzzing sound, that is not as loud as clicking (i have to put ear at front of my PSU), and the buzzing sound is inversly proportional to load of the PSU.
One of my users brought me this issue the other day. He is using a Latitude D830 laptop with a D/port docking station. With or without the laptop docked, The power button on the docking station flashes Orange and Green when powered. I've swapped power bricks for the dock. The laptop still seems to charge while being docked. After swapping the dock, the new dock is fine.
What might be causing it? Is the dock dead? Could it be a failed port on the docking station?
I have a Dell Latitude E6820 and have just connected a new Dell E-Port Plus II Docking station. Plugged in to the docking station are two monitors, one plugged into DVI Connector 1 and the other plugged into DVI Connector 2. The laptop is running Windows 7 64 bit.
Try as I might, I can not get the system to recognise the second monitor. I have tried the following to get this to work.
- Enabled Optimus (I think that is what it was called in the BIOS) - When I enabled this, neither of the monitors would work via the docking station
- Disabled Optimus - One monitor works
- Attempted to detect the other monitor via Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution (monitor not detected)
- Swapped monitors and cables in case it was a cable or monitor issue. All Cables and Monitors have been verified as working as expected.
- Attempted to connect one monitor via VGA cable. Only one monitor was detected
I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.
I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.
I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.
Just FYI.
My screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.

The strange thing is, the screen doesnt fade to darkness, instead it is as if the contrast changes before returning to normal again.

I suppose I'm going to have to do without a computer now to send this in to get it replaced instead of HP just sending me a replacement keyboard... Why do they insist on everything being sent into them? A keyboard replacement takes all of 5 minutes to do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my xps 15z just nearly two years (out of warranty) an today it won't turn on. The battery light does not light up and neither does the light to indicate if it is charging, when I press the on button nothing at all happens. The green light on the plug transformer is on until you plug it into the laptop when it immediately deilluminates. I am trying to establish if this is an issue with the plug or the laptop hardware, I could not find a solution and I only have my phone to look on now my laptop has died.
Moreover I am very annoyed with the quality of this range topping machine, when it first came the hard drive had to be replaced, the dell rep who fixed it managed to break the battery indicator lights which I had to take it apart to fix. When you consider the wireless issues, the focus losing problems which made it impossible to type until I found which dell programme to uninstall to fix and the crackling speaker issue which I still not found a solution for, this is not good enough.
My first month with this brand new notebook was problems it gave me a blue screen and shut down on me. I thought it was normal being that it was my very first notebook. My hp pavilion notebook is only 3 years old but it now it has a blinking caps light and a orange light on the wireless key. I have tried to hard reset it but nothing works. I was use to it shutting down on me and restarting again but this time it would not come back on. I call Hp tech and now I'm being told this computer is obsolete and can't be fixed.

My eyes are light sensitive from looking at many computer screens over the years and due to this I avoid LCD screens and much prefer flat CRT monitors. i dissasembled my presario cq60 and when i put it together the monitor won't activate.
i tried using an external monitor and the monitor refused to turn on from standby, a safety feature of the monitor. the small card in the underneath with 2 wires leading 2 the monitor, (i assume that is the laptop version of a graphics card) is fine, inserted properly, and i had a slight issue with the plugs fitting, but that was soon resolved.
I have an HP DV 6000T. I just bought a HP Elite M9510f Desktop from HP.com, and I don't have a monitor yet, so I am trying to connect my Desktop VGA to my Laptop VGA in and use my DV6000T as a monitor.
I also have a Sharp TV which I tried using as a monitor but the thing keeps flashing the Power and OPC lights and won't let me see anything.
Anyway I can make my Laptop monitor work with my desktop for the time being?
The price of 2nd user Latitude D630's seems to be holding up quite well in the UK. Does this indicate that it is still a popular machine and favoured over the E6400?
I briefly checked out an E6400 the other day and for a choice between machines of approximately similar spec I would opt for the D630 rather than the newer E6400.
I would be interested in opinions from users who have experience with both models.
We are looking at getting some Latitude E4310 systems. Since fast boot up to access the web is important, we see that the Latitude On FLASH option is required.
The downside is that Dell will not install this along with the WiMax card option. They have a combo WiFi and WiMax card, but it can not be installed with the FLASH option.
They also list Latitude On ECM as an option instead of On FLASH. The ECM runs $149 more. With ECM, the system can then have the WiMax card which would be nice.
The people at Dell have not been able to provide a good explanation on what the ECM option does. There is a write up on the FLASH option, but not a good one on ECM. Does anyone know what the ECM does differently than the FLASH?

2) Dell Latitude E6500: 2.26ghz C2D, 3Gb RAM, 80gb HDD, DVDRW, Vista,
Which do you reckon i ought to go for between the two?
The laptop will be used primarily between home and university, so will be taken between the two places in my shoulder messenger bag, so will probably take a few bumps
I am wondering whether or not the E6400 has the Latitude-On feature or can be configured as such.
