View 10 RepliesLooking for some help here and don't know where to turn.
My M1530 fell, it worked for a while, but then it crashed. On Vista startup, it will bluescreen with either an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME or that IRQL_IS_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL (something like that anyway) error.
Dell's diagnostic tests gave an error on the Hard Drive DST Short Test of 2000-0142. Dell says that means a broken hard drive and they are sending a replacement.
I tried putting the M1530's hard drive into a Latitude D620, and it booted! Slowly, but it booted. I was able to see the drive and use it for a good 12 hours before I shut it down.
My girlfriend mindlessly put the charger in the same bag as the laptop and it ended up putting some pretty deep scratches in my midnight blue lid.
I would be fine with it if it was just normal wear-and-tear but it really sucks since I literally got the laptop 3 days ago.
My question is if there is anyway to float this by dell and have it covered by the warranty? Or maybe have them send me a replacement lid? I'm still in the 21 day period so I could see about returning it and ordering a new one but I reallllly do not want to do that.
(I've had the laptop for about a week and a half) but there is a scratch (actually looks like a burn/melt) on the top right of the screen, and it's nothing I could have done. It kind of looks like when you peel off a sticker and the glue is still there... I just found it because of the way my lamp is shining off of it and I'm wondering if I should make a big deal about it. Some may call me picky, but when you buy a new laptop, you expect it to be "perfect" and when you find a flaw...
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy laptop LCD has some scratches on it, nothing huge, but still annoying none the less and was caused from other people in my family using my laptop and not cleaning hands etc.
There is also what appears to be something stuck (like a piece of dust or dirt) because I can see it on the screen and then projected back on towards the actual LCD.
Will any of this be covered under my still active complete care warranty? Its an xps 1640.
so im about to pick up my macbook from repair and am afraid that they may have scratched it. i sent it in, in prestine condition. i think its scratch because the last time i sent a computer in for repair it came back with huge scratches about 4-5 inches long but didnt care at that time. so im wondering if this they would do anything if i mention it to them
btw the store repairing is best buy
i've just received my repaired dv2310 back from HP due to a motherboard failure. everything is back to normal now.. boots fine, although GPU temp still a little on the hot side. its at 81C now and the only thing i'm doing is typing this message. CPU temp around 55-60C light load. (Turion 64x2 1.6ghz)
but one major issue.. the HP tech SCRATCHED MY SCREEN! theres several nicks on the upper left portion.. its very obvious when i am looking a blank white page..
should i call HP and complain? would there be a case? I did take some pics of the laptop and screen before I shipped it just to prepare for situations like these. so anyone's screens got scratched up and went after HP for a replacement?
I really want to buy a black one as I prefer a matte finish and it wouldn't discolor, but I want it new and I cannot find any here in Canada, so I will have to buy a white one. This is going to be my very first mac and to me it's a lot of money... I hope it will be worth it (I'm a little nervous about the switch) .
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed my shiny silver paint on my beautiful M1210 has started to dull. The colour is still there but looking at it on an angle with a light you can see that the shiny-ness is fading . I'm a student in secondary school and i dont work so i dont have a very good budget to work with... Is there anything i can do to prevent my shiny silver palmrest turning into a grey dull piece of plastic,
View 11 Replies View Relatedafter a few months of heavy usage i noticed the aluminum band was beginning to pit.
i use my computer for web design so i am on it hours on end. the pitting began as a few dots, and i tried to use the computer with my external keyboard to prevent more damage
There is any trick to easily remove the stickers from the palmrest without leaving a mess with all the glue in the palmrest, or risking damaging the palmrest in the removal process ?,
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've never had a Vaio but I just wondered, does Sony replace the palm wrests under normal wear and tear?
I ask this because I hear a tiny bit of creaking in my right palm rest and the computer is only a few weeks old. I am worried this will get worse.
I also purchased and invisible shield to put on the palmrest but what is Sony's policy on palm rests?
where I can find a brandnew original one?

Does your left palm rest heat up alot? I didnt notice it before but these past few days its been feeling pretty hot...
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I use my HP Bluetooth mouse the right palm area of the laptop gets really hot. Has anyone else experienced this? Is is normal? That area does not seem to get hot when using the trackpad, just the BT mouse.
I think I'm going to switch to a non-bluetooth wireless mouse.
I was cleaning my MBP today and I notice that at certain light angles, I can notic fading/discoloration in the finish where my palm normally rests. It's sort of the same effect as rubbing fine sandpaper over a painted surface.
I took pictures but it can't be noticed in pictures.
I think an investment in a palm gaurd would be worthwhile.
Just FYI.
I just made the long-coveted switch to the Mac world and I ended up getting the 13" white macbook just this past Sunday.
Long story short, I had to fill out a questionnaire for something, pen had spilled some ink into my hand, unknowingly, and I went back to my computer to finish typing up this report, took my hand off and then BLAMMO, blue ink stain.
I did a search and saw recommendations of toothpaste and isopropyl alcohol. Would these be good to try out or are there other remedies you guys can teach me?
I swung by the apple store recently, and checked out their 15" mbp (since the 17" wasn't/isn't in store yet). I put my hand over the palmrest to check out the keyboard layout and that particular laptop's left side palm rest area was pretty darn hot!
This brought up 2 concerns:
1) With the heat and the skin/oil contact with the aluminum surface, will that ruin the paintjob faster? is there even a paintjob or is the silver color the aluminum's natural and only color?
2) Regardless if the paint comes off or not, is there a way to make it cooler and more comfortable to type/game on? For those that play fps games or WoW, we all know our left hand is pretty much in the same spot, and if our wrists are constantly getting a spa treatment, it's not going to be very comfy. I know there was that ilap whatever thing you place under the laptop to diffuse the heat from concentrating on your laps, so I wonder if there's something like that for the hands.
An hour ago, I accidentally dropped my Inspiron E1705. The notebook fell from 3ft high and hit the ground on its bottom side (the same position you use the laptop). I tried to turn it on to see if it worked and here's what I found:
The notebook turns on and the battery charges
The hard drive led is blinking like booting
The keyboard works
No beeps
Screen is blank, no video at all, I tried using an external monitor and got the same result
So I bought my m1330 about 2 months ago with the 1 year complete care service. Approx. 2 days ago I dropped my laptop and it cracked the casing on the side of LCD. The crack does not affect the functioning of the laptop.
Am I still covered by DELL?
my girlfriend accidentally dropped her laptop from about a foot off the ground.
The laptop was on during the fall, and remained on afterward. However, needless to say the laptop froze. Did a hard reboot, and Vista took abnormally long to boot, only to find that the computer began to run check disk. After the check, everything past and it booted windows normally.
Seems to work ok, but once you try to run any program the computer eventually locks up and you have to hard power down to get anywhere (no, task manager doesnt work). Once it boots again, it once again wants to run check disk. Is there any way to repair such damage? Could the damage be physical to the drive sense it was dropped?
I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below.

Dropped my computer and now it wont boot up. Instead it just keeps turning on and off. The screen is also cracked. HP tells me that the hard drive or motherboard have been shifted with the impact and are not being detected properly causing the power cycling. They are offering to fix it for $400. I would like to attempt to make the repairs myself, if possible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter dropped her XPS15 laptop.
Trying to start it up now, we get beeping at about 1 second intervals.
A very brief message then pops up, part of which says: PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
We then get a screen showing options for the Boot Priority Order.
Choosing Hard Drive, the next message says no hard drive detected.
I've checked nothing has been dislodged by the fall and the hard drive is secure.
Can we retrieve data from the hard drive if that is what's the problem?
I accidentally dropped the Z series, well no functional damage luckily,
but my ring around the power button is broken- any kind soul would let me know where I can get the part and fix it myself?
i just accidentally dropped my laptop a few hours ago but it is still working fine. i think the accelerometer came on and stopped the hard drive. but there are a few scratches and looks like small cracks on the cover of the laptop? i really want to change it out without sending it off to HP. are there any sites that sell parts for this laptop?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was setting my bag down and it slipped out of my hands from about a foot high. It dented the corner of the unibody, not the batter cover. It was in a bag with only a small amount of foam at the bottom.
I was sick about it. I called the apple store and they wanted $600, LA Computer wanted 500, and finally found a place in the midwest that only charged me 350 to replace it. I got it back and its as good as new. I DONT work for them or know them personally but Mission is the name of the place that helped me. They do deserve some credit.
I now carry it in a suspension laptop bag by Swiss.
The funny thing is that I have dropped my Thinkpads higher than that and they have never needed to be repaired.
