First of all, I know that this isn't the place for "what laptop should I buy" threads, but I have a few questions that I think owners might have an easier time answering. I was looking for a portable laptop that could also handle gaming,
and I think the VAIO CW, which has been updated, is right for me. However, what I am most concerned about is the 310M graphics card that has been introduced. I was planning on getting it with the 230M, but it is no longer an option. For anyone with experience/knowledge how does the 310M fare? Cause I was ok with the 230M, but the 210M didn't seem good enough for me.
In addition, battery life is a big concern as well, because I will be taking the laptop to classes and stuff. I plan on buying the extended battery as a backup, but again, if anyone has experience .....
Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")
View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a link to a website or PDF describing how to properly open and disassemble a VAIO VGN-SZ75GN?
I have a VAIO VGN-SZ75GN, bought about 8 months ago, and now I want to exchange the built-in hard-disc with a solid-state disc.
I need some guide with illustrations/pictures, how to reach the disc
I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
Just performed a successful XP downgrade on my Vaio Z520, but have noticed that on this copy of the Vaio Silver Desktop Theme/Appearance doesn't exist.
I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.
I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if the Blu-ray optical drive (Panasonic UJ-232A) of the (old) VAIO Z series will be able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series? I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to answer my question.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.
I currently have an Inspiron 1420 with Nvidia 8400 & T7500. I'm quite happy with it but have lately been eying the 1530 because of the LED screen and Nvidia 8600. I've been playing HL2 at 1440x900 with max settings execept AA and getting great frame rates on the Nvidia 8400. How much of a difference will the 8600 make in recent games. Also i don't want to buy the xps 1530 and then in 2-3 months Dell goes ahead and releases the successor.
So does any one have any idea or heard any rumors of the XPS 1530's successor. I've been hearing horror stories of the WXGA+ (1440x900) screen, any idea if the LED screen also has the same problems.
So should i stick with my 1420 and wait for the 1530's next iteration with hopefully a better video card and keyboard back lighting or should i plunk down the money and get the 1530?
I see the old attempt at 3D now has twice the processing power and twice the graphics power thrown at it. Has anyone tested it for performance? I'm curious if it's improved enough to be worthy of purchase.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLoooks like the white Macbook has been updated again. Now it has a 2.13GHz CPU (previously 2GHz), 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM (previously used DDR2 667MHz RAM) and 160GB HD (120GB HD prevously). I'm sure the aluminum updates should get some sort of "bump up" in the near future.
I may just get the 2.0GHz model, update the RAM to 4GB, take out the 120GB HD and put in a 320GB 7200 RPM HD and be done with it.
I updated the graphics card for my Inspiron 9300.. Lots of money, and lots of time wasted, and now I'm having huge issues with my laptop. First off, I ended up buying two Dell AC adapters (both rev02) and with both I get an incompatibility error when I start my laptop.. Now, I get around this by unplugging the AC and pluging it back when I'm inside windows... good enough
Well, now I have another problem. In windows, if I were to even drag a window and pan it around, I would lose my display .. I would get these diagonal patterns covering my screen. and then after a few seconds the screen turns pitch black.. I've tried different things and everytime I seem to get the same result.
The drivers that I'm using for the 7800 is the ones recommended here for the initial installation of the card.. I've also tried others but to no avail.
I've flashed my bios more than twice but the same result.
I've even bought a new 9 cell battery even though I already had one to begin with(but it was functionally weird)

My spec:
inspiron 9300
pentium 2.13(something like that)

new bios is up on the Acer support listed as version 1.16V?
I checked out the file but nothing listed and documentation?
Acer 6920G Bios Updated 1.16v
I just noticed that the DV4t, 6t, and 7t notebooks all look to have been upgraded/updated to include DDR3 along with the Windows 7 release. Pretty nice for the power conscious I’d think. 1.5v RAM instead of 1.8v should match up well with a “P” series chip and a LED backlit screen... not to mention a bit of a speed boost. Not the newest stuff coming, but a nice update just the same for the Intel 4 Series chipset.

Unfortunately I updated this laptop with a Bios that was geared for a different model. The BIOS functioned and now I'm in BSOD hell.
Â
Anyway to make a BIOS USB that I can back this update out? When I try to restore the previous BIOS that Flash tool returns a Blue Screen.
I updated the graphics on my Inspiron 15Z and when I restarted system I could not get into internet. So as i usually do when these issues occur is uninstall previous additions. Well, now when I turm system on it just blinks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAm planning to get a sony laptop for me. The design simply rocks I am getting mixed reviews about cw and E series. But i made up my mind to get one.
My budget is aroung 40000rupees. Thats around 800$. So suggest me a better one between these two for occasional moderate and less(mosltly) demanding games. I dont care whether its 14 or 15 inch.
Am looking at lower end versions of both the models.
Only difference is CW uses Nvidia Geforce 310 and the E series uses some Radeon 5000 series one. CW has 14 inch screen whereas E series has a 15.5 inch screen. In the models which i am looking at both have matte finish and both has WXGA:1366 x 768 VAIO Display.
which one should i go for. whether the screen quality will be on par to Inspiron one atleast? ( I dont need HD).
im planning on using the laptop for videos, photoshop and a bit of gaming, maybe even a bit more gaming :-)
The Vaio F Series only has 330M Nvidia Graphics Card with i7QM and up to 8GB of Ram and up to 256GB SSD.
The E Series has ATI 5650 (a less powerful version, reduced clock speed) combined with a i5 520M with up to 6Gb of Ram and up to 500GB of HDD ? Why can i not choose SSD ?
if I can use the AC Adapter of a Vaio TT on the Vaio Z. The standard AC Adapter that comes with the Vaio Z is of 19.5V and the one for the Vaio TT is of 16V, which I don't know if it's enough for the Vaio Z to function properly or if there could be any problem or damage. Both machines have batteries of 10,8V.
I have an undervolted Vaio Z by the way (last multiplier at 0.9875) so I don't know if this could help in any way for my Z to work ok with the TT AC Adapter.
Dell just updated the bios to version A10.
Fixes and Enhancements:
1. Update thermal table for NVidia graphic.
I'm amazed they decided to update the bios after such a long time. Hopefully this will fix our toasty graphics cards.
This may be of interest to people who use their security hardware.

I updated my bios with the file "3A45 for ATI M22, M24 and M26" and... its wrong.
The laptop is dead. The screen is always black when I tur the laptop on.
Does any body here can help me to recover or flash my old bios or a new one working?
Because I had a minor problem with my laptop (since a couple of weeks it was always starting up in manufacturing mode) I decided to update my BIOS.So I downloaded the BIOS-update A19 (currently I was running A11) and followed the instructions to install it (power plugged in, shut down all applications, removed all peripherals).
Everything seemed to go fine: the computer restarted, came in BIOS and did all update tasks, but then at the point that normally Windows should start. I got stuck on a black screen and my fan blew at maximum speed.I left it running for about 5 minutes in the hope it would come back but it didn't. So I decided to try to shut down the system. This was not possible by holding down the power button. The only way was removing the power cord and battery. But after this incident my laptop is completely death. Does this mean the motherboard is completely wasted?Because I’m out of warranty it is not even possible to open a support request for it on the Dell support site.
About 2 weeks ago, my z400 automatically updated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. i have been read reviews on whether or not to restore my computer to its original state or continue with 8.1.i have noticed several malfunctions in my unit after the upgrade and quite frankly i am really hesitant on continuing with 8.1.Â

View 15 Replies View RelatedBrand new laptop 3 days old - model 7737. Came with Win8 and touchscreen was working fine
Have updated to 8.1 and installed other software like office, etc and touchscreen is now not recognised. System says "no pen or touch device"
Device manager also shows an unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)
Device manager also keeps refreshing (like every few seconds) - sometimes the USB device disappears completely then comes back again as unknown.
I'm sure this must be a driver issue but have tried all those I can find.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to enable virtualisation on my Aspire v3-551 running updated Bios 2.14.
I also would like to know if there is anyway (within bios) to increase my fan speed?
A couple hours ago I updated my BIOS from A13 to A14. The firmware update took successfully and everything was fine, I THOUGHT.
Now, every single time (not exaggerating) that I restart my computer the Dell Circular logo pops up for maybe half a sec, and screen goes blank. Lights on laptop do it's thing, I hear the dvd-rom set itself like usual but like I said, no loading ring under the Dell logo appears, the screen just goes blank. All I have to do each time is simply push the power button till computer turns off, and turn it on again. The second time around it works completely normal and loads into Windows.
This happens every time I do a restart from windows, a restart from BIOS settings, or if I turn the computer on after it's been off for a couple minutes. The Dell circular logo appears for maybe half a sec, than screen goes blank, I wait forever and it does nothing but all I have to do each time is push the power button, let pc turn off, and push power button again and it works until the next system restart and it does it all over again.
Won't be too much of a problem but it's aggravating that every time I restart the computer I just know i'm going to have to wait for the blank screen and push the power button to turn it off and back on.
All drivers were fully updated before I performed the BIOS firmware update from A13 to A14. Update took successfully.
I unplugged laptop, and took out battery for a little while to clear my RAM, but that did not fix the problem.
I always loaded BIOS setting defaults, still have the problem.
I have no CD/DVD in the ROM, nor do I have any USB devices, memory cards, or blue tooth device hooked to the computer.
