Every since i had my Hp envy dv7 i have always used the finger detector to log in up until i updated to 8.1 last week. my finger detector is inactive whilst i seem not recall my password any means to login has proven futile... I need to work on my and other documents as well.
View 3 RepliesI just updated my HP Envy 15t-3000 to Windows 8.1. The first thing I noticed is that all non-Windows programs (Chrome, Digsby, etc) are all gainy.The graphics card installed on my laptop is a ATI Radeon HD 7690M switchable with Intel HD Graphics 3000.
I had the latest HP drivers installed when I had Windows 8 (version 9.0.0.0 for both gpus). The auto driver detecter on the ATI did not work (incompatible hardware). The latest ATI beta drivers made it worse (largest resolution is 720p). Using Windows to update the drivers (both are above 9.0.0.0) caused a driver crash (exclimation mark next to the display adapter in Device Manager).Will HP release official Windows 8.1 drivers for this laptop?
Unfortunately I updated this laptop with a Bios that was geared for a different model. The BIOS functioned and now I'm in BSOD hell.
Anyway to make a BIOS USB that I can back this update out? When I try to restore the previous BIOS that Flash tool returns a Blue Screen.
Is there some trick to this? like 1 in 8 times it actually scrolls, it's not even smoothl, it like jumps, not smoothly scrolls the page.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have not used my webcam for a while, but recently updated Skype. When I went to use the web cam it was not detected. When I try Cyberlink Ucam it says no webcam detected. I checked the driver in Device Manager and it is ok. I used HP Recovery Manager and reinstalled the Cyberlink software but it is still undetected. Is there some keyboard switch for the camera or something simple that I am missing??

I had previously attempted to use modded drivers and other apps (none of which worked), but surprisingly, synaptics seems to have enabled it all by themselves in the latest driver, which is part of scrybe.

Guide:

2.1 Restart
3. Go to Control Panel>Mouse>Device Settings (Tab)>Highlight Synaptics Touchpad Vx.x> then click settings
4. Once you have the Touchpad settings windows open, you can change all kinds of settings:
Multifinger Gestures>Two Finger Scrolling (Click the gears next to the name)
Multifinger Gestures>Rotating (Click the gears next to the name)......

View 1 Replies View Relatedthru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:
- restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive
- windows starts loading files
- I can hear the writer spinning up
- recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue
- windows starts loading files and atempts to start
- restoration incomplete, hit retry
- cycle repeats
HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck
When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results
My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc
Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
My laptop was beginning to slow down so I've done a reinstall of windows and wiped my SSD clean (I replaced the original HDD with an SSD a while back).
Because of this I've not got a backup partition containing my drivers.
My fingerprint sensor has stopped working. It says an error has occured whenever I try to use it even though my fingerprint was saved in my user accounts as a sign in option.
Where do I get the driver for this?
Also, I now no longer have HP Recovery Manager that had all of the drivers. Where can I download this?

These are the only two things that no longer work and it would be handy to get them sorted.
I have a HP ENVY 17-j053ea which I had to purchase recovery discs for. I used the recovery discs several times following different instructions and using different BIOS settings, and have been in 3 different chats with HP but I am still getting an error message. In the final chat HP told me that I should take the laptop back to the retailer who should repair/replace it for me and if they don't then to contact HP over chat again.
The error message is a dialog box with a black background titled 'Recovery Manager' and the message says 'The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:' where the buttons are 'Save Log', 'Details' and 'Retry'. If I click on 'Retry' it prompts me to insert disc 1 again, (at the stage of recieving this error message both discs have already been used) and if I click on 'Details' a file named 'CTOERROR.flg' opens in Notepad and contains the following text:

I was having few problems with my computer so using HP Recovery Media Creation I created a USB recovery Key, after using it I was able to factory reset everything but now my windows in not activated, I spoke to Microsoft but they told me to speak to HP about this matter, I am soo confused now
I also decided to update to windows 8.1 to see if it solves any probelm as thats what I had before the factory reset but it is still the same and on the desktop there is a small message which says "Windows 8.1 Build 9600"

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an HP ENVY dv7 Notebook. When the computer was new I tried to make a recovery disc set. When finished I would check the discs ( DVD - R ) I would get a message saying the discs did not write correctly. Tried discs from three different packs, still the same. Called HP Support and they went through the procedure with me, still the same fail. I was told me not to worry if I ever had to have the discs because of a crash they would send them to me for free as they have a record. Now I will be using this computer mainly on the internet and think I should have the discs just in case. Called HP and was told no record, no free discs and it will cost a lot to make the discs. Is there any way to make discs or put the info on a hard drive? I do not know if the computer thinks I made a copy or not since the copies I thought I was making were defective.

I have bought the Aspire 5738G over half a year ago and it was just a couple of days back from now, when Everest showed me a hardware report about an integrated Intel 4500MHD onboard, which is inactive.
I couldn't find any info on this matter online, so I thought that with your help and my readiness to disassemble my laptop, we could figure out a way to make use of this integrated chip, which would result in serious power savings when running on battery.
I am thinking that maybe there is some place in the circuitry that was cut in order to disable the chip or something, or that it has no access to the LCD and HDMI ports.
Also, I downloaded a Service Manual for my model and I couldn't find my 5738G specification in it.
I have an Acer Extensa 4620Z and I am trying to do a fresh install of XP. I have found all the drivers for XP for this system including the AHCI driver for the serial drive (since the bios will not let me switch to a different mode).
Once I start the XP install, F6 and select the correct driver from the floppy drive connected via USB port all is good. The install sees the hard drive and begins the install. However, once that process starts I am again prompted for the Intel Controller driver and the reason it now does not find it appears to be simply that the USB ports go dead at some point between the initial start of the install and this point.
Windows 8.1, 64bit, all drivers up to date, Nvidia 730m, intel 4600. Fairly new issue (couple of months), laptop wakes from sleep but display does not function, everything seems to be working normally during, just no display. Forced to hard restart.
Just avoiding using sleep mode for now. Seems to be a software issue, upgraded to 8.1 when purchased almost a year ago, worked fine until recently.
I wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.

I have recently bought an HP envy m6-laptop, and I constantly get a warning message alerting the Recovery disc is full. I have a Windows 8 operating system on the computer, and I have tried to follow the guidelines. That solution was however for the Windows 7 and I got stuck halfways without solving the problem.

When I was done and the OS was configuring it stated that the hardware is not compatible with this version of windows.Since I use my computer, I don't like the original windows you get from the branded computers, all the programs that are forced on to you are a pain. Therefor, as usual, I removed every single trace of the original. Including the recovery disc.

i bought a new hp envy 15t-j100 (window's 8 64bit ). during installation of some program i installed another windows start menu (i thought it is windown 7 start menu for windows 8) but i discovered after that it is a windows 8 start menu for windows 7. this caused my computer to stop showing anything after starting up. i restarted it many times but nothing is showing on the screen except the mouse cursor .i don't have any backup recovery for my computer.
