Mar 11, 2010took the 40 gig out and put a 120gig in but shows up in bios no harddrive detected and its now the same when i put the 40gig back in ive noticed its not spinning too .

I'll buy the VGN-Z540NAB and put in 3 GB of DDR3 ram and a 120 GB Vertex SSD drive.
But - I have been wondering how I am going to do the harddrive part - this is my plan.
1. Make a clean install on the old haddrive as soon as i get the notebook using this guide: Sony Z series 32bit Vista Clean Install Guide (full functions & no windows activation)
2. Make a back-up image of the harddrive using Storagecrafts shadow protect(http://www.storagecraft.com/products...rotectDesktop/)
3. switch to the new SSD harddrive
4. load my back-up image on the clean new SSD harddrive.
5. and i'm ready to go

Feb 19, 2009This has been getting on my nerves lately. In the past, they never bothered releasing drivers for laptops but now that they do, I can't get it to work with my laptop, which is HP Pavilion 6670ee with NVidia 8400M GS...
I know that 3rd party driver will work with it but I am not able to get the PhysX support with those drivers for some reason and if I download Notebook driver from NVidia website, the latest which they released few days ago for example.
I get this error during installation:
The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit.
It's NVidia's own 8400M GS - wth is it not detecting it?
Dell Inspiron N5110 :: Detecting Second Monitor That Does Not Exist
Nov 13, 2014I have an Inspiron N5110 that is about 2 years old. The hard drive was replaced in January this year after being damaged. For the past couple of months I have had a problem with a second monitor being detected when the mains power cable is connected. There has never been a second monitor connected to this laptop. The screen resolution changes and if you have the Display panel open you can see it switch between single monitor and dual monitor. Every time it does this the screen goes black and then comes back up, the mouse pointer resets to the middle of the screen and it makes the noise you would expect when something is being plugged in. All of this does not happen when running on battery power. It happens most when the battery power is almost full or almost empty and the screen can change anywhere up to every 1-2 seconds at this time. When the charge is more towards the middle of the battery it happens a lot less often, maybe only every couple of minutes. It is almost to the point where the laptop is unusable if it is charging. We have checked the display drivers and reinstalled them just in case it was that but it didn't seem to make any difference.

It detects iPhone hot spot and connect to that.
There is no issue with the home wifi as other devices are coneecting without issue.

Feb 27, 2011I'm having a problem with the fingerprint reader and HP simple pass identity protection software that came with my Dv6-3121nr. For some reason all of a sudden since this morning it won't work. There are no lights on the sensor and it does not respond to any swipe/movement. When I launch the Simple pass software and go to the fingerprints section, it says the finger print reader is not connected. Interestingly when I go to device manager I don't see any biometric devices listed under there. I read on another thread that some options from under biometic devices in device manager fixed the problem.
I've already tried uninstalling/reinstalling Simple pass from the recovery manager and have also uninstalled and updated the validity sensor but still no go. Here are some other details:
Laptop model: Dv6-3121nr
Operating System: Windows 7 premium 64bit
Validiy Sensor DDK version: 4.1.139.0

In fact DVD Drive has worked properly about 10 months and now disappeared from BIOS. DVD is also not visible in Device Manager.
DVD Drive is integrated in laptop. When I push the DVD’s button, LED indicator flashes and tray ejects. When I place a CD and close the tray, the LED indicator starts blinking and a noise of rotating can be heard. After several seconds the blinking stops first and noise after that.
My question is if there is any way to check whether the DVD Drive is really broken and needs replacement or something in my BIOS settings is wrong?
The BIOS was recently updated to the newest version available in Lenovo Support. That caused no problems with DVD Drive and it worked normally.
A week ago I updated successfully Windows 7 Professional x86 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 via Windows Anytime Upgrade (not using DVD). After that I haven’t use the DVD drive until today. I am not sure if it is possible that Window upgrade to cause DVD Drive to disappear from BIOS.

I installed wireless button driver from HP website but it still has not detected my WiFi.I have installed win 8.1 and the lap was bought from flipkart. It is powered by and a8 apu, 4GB ram, 2GB radeon 8570 graphics... (I also have pblm with my graphics driver. It detects my graphics card as 8500).

Mar 12, 2009Past few months my 9300 with the 100gb 5400RPM drive has been laggin like crazy due to lots of harddrive activity. Sometimes it feels like I'm running a pentium 2. I always thought it's because I didn't have much free space (8-15gb) but I recently cleared it down to like 35GB free and have set a defragmentation every night at 4am. I use diskkeeper for that. It hasn't really gotten that much better...
I think I will do a "boot-time" defragmentation to totally defragment, but what else should I check?
Running 2gb ram with 1gb paging file, windows xp pro, up to date.
Dell :: Is My Harddrive Any Good?
Aug 17, 2009I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a 320GB HDD. A few months back when I checked how much free space I had left it showed 295GB not 320GB in total.
Currently I have 224GB out of 295GB and this doesn't seem right to me because I have nothing on my HDD except for CCleaner and and a few small programs.
I figured that so much space was being taken up because when I downloaded Firefox which is 30MB, 10GB was taken off of of my HDD, same thing happens with whatever I download. I have no clue whats going on
Dell :: Harddrive Died
Oct 11, 2008My Hard drive went kaput and right after I had put about 4 hours of paper research info into it.
I spent hours trying to get the information off the drive, but now have an additional issue: The external drive I borrowed from my friend was being used with Apple OS X. SO, when I plug it in to this win XP machine, it doesn't recognize the drive or show any existing files!
Does anyone know a program or a way to help me verify if my attempt to recover data might have been successful? The only other option I can think of is, after getting a new drive into the laptop, installing linux hastily and transferring to a different drive. And no, the friend that I am borrowing from is a few hours away at the moment. I need that research for Monday, and I feel the pressure!
This is the first hard drive that has ever failed on me inside of a year, and its true what they say: It happens only when you suddenly have data that is actually important.
Acer :: New Harddrive Not Recognised
Jan 26, 2010I have an acer 5620z and the hard drive died. I replaced the hard drive and I have recovery cd's but I can't use them as it looks for partitions. I have read that I need to partition the hard drive first so I downloaded the DiskFormatDT_V1-1D.iso and installed it. during the process it didn't see the hard drive but it ran through with no errors (by the way the bios does see the hard drive).
After the disk format cd I tried the recovery cds and I get the 'no partition found error' so i am stuck. i know there is the PQService but I don't know what to do as I need to be able to partition the drive so i can run recovery cds. As it is a new disk Alt F10 etc wont work.
HP/Compaq :: Dead Harddrive
Mar 25, 2009The 500GB HD in my DV7t just died. It's definitely dead, as I pulled it out and tested it in a caddy. When the computer goes to initialize the drive, it gets an error in the I/O device. I still believe I'm under my one year warranty from HP. Does it cover dead harddrives? And if so, do they require that I send in the dead drive? I work for a small business, though my boss has a rather strict data policy - all broken, dead, unused or outdated drives are to be turned into them for proper destruction prior to sale, refurbishment or replacement. Even when we send our laptops off for repairs, there are 'stock' harddrives we place in them that have never had sensitive company data on them. A bit paranoid, definitely, but it's company policy.

Sep 28, 2014My HP Pavilion dv6-6113tx Entertainment Notebook PC is not detecting 5GHz frequency signals. I tried to check my wireless network software update and that too is up to date. My colleague suggested me to attach an external dual band wireless dongal. Is that possible to replace the network card with a dual band one if this machine does not have that one. I am really annoyed with my laptop wifi. It is working with 2.4GHz wifi signal, but due to interference problem as stated by internet provider it is not working at good speed and speed fluctuates a lot.
