Problem-- When you Turn on my acer 5315 laptop a blank black screen comes up after the acer logo appears. If you press any key a loud beep noice sounds.
Solutions I have Tried-- Well i started with using the preloaded restore to factory defults and I got an error message at about 99 percent. The error was- Restore Failed- Reason oxd0000001d - or close to that. I figured maybe the backup partiton was screwed up so I pulled out the old recovery cd's I purchased from acer. The same thing showed up. I then figured i should call acer. I called and they told me to use the acer post disk formatter. I tried that and it still did not help the problem. I have no where else to turn so thougt maybe you guys could help.
By the way This is some of my system specs--
Acer 5315-
Hitachi 80GB hard drive-

I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up

I have a Acer E1 522-3657 computer, which my son set-up for me but did not make the recovery disc(s). The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.
Â
I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".
Â
Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.
Â
I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way. Â I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.
Â
In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.

I gained a lot of information from the 5315 CPU Upgrade Thread. I'd particularly like to thank BigOzone, Hoggie and Quilty997. There are many others but information from the above formed the basis of my upgrade.
Other information I've collected from other parts in the forum.
The specification of the laptop was as follows.
Acer Aspire 5315
Celeron 550 2.0Ghz (eek)
1gb of Ram
Vista Home Basic (double eek)
Atheros Wireless Card
80Gb Toshiba Hard Disk
The new Specification is.
Core2Duo T7500 2.2Ghz 800 Mhz Front Side Bus 4Mb Cache
3Gb of Crucial Ram
Vista Home Basic (No Choice At the Minute)
Intel 4965 AGN Wireless Card
200Gb Hitachi Hard Disk
The CPU Upgrade I won't actually cover, not necessary when there is a fantastic sticky at the top of this forum. The Upgrade took about 15 minutes, but the actual swap took about 5 minutes or so, I was very anal about cleaning the heatsink and applying AS5. I think the biggest scare was the door unerneath, quite tricky to get off and put back on without damaging the tabs.
My main focus is the hard drive swap, whilst maintaining all the eRecovery software. For this I use Acronis True Image Home, I am aware that the trial can be downloaded or users obtain by other means, can I just say BUY IT as it only cost me £17 from Amazon.co.uk and as usual it was cheaper in the US. The biggest reason for buying is that some features are not available in the trial. I also bought a Laptop SATA External Drive Holder and boy was I glad I did......................

So Dell has ordered me my replacement Studio 1555 for my current Dell 1535 as it has given me so many problems and still is, as I have explained in previous posts.
I am receiving it on the 14th of August and a courier is coming to take the old one away on the 17th.. I have those days to transfer all my data over, but I have a dilemma.

I heard some crackling from my hard drive (presumably) and then all the hard drive functions stopped. I could move the mouse but opening files, folders etc. wasn't happening.
So it seems the HD just stopped working. I had to force reboot and after that all was fine again.
I'd like to make an image/clone of the hard drive in case I need to exchange it to a new one. Can someone point me to a good preferably free program that does the job. I have Vista 64bit OS and a 250GB HD that is some basic model that Dell ship

I've got an HDX 16t due to ship next week (if those chinese factory workers aren't slacking off! ) and I plan on replacing the 5400 RPM HD with a 7200 RPM HD.
What's the best way to accomplish this hard drive switch? I figured I'd just install Vista and the required drivers on the new hard drive but I've read that some people clone the existing hard drive onto the new hard drive.
While that sounds easier will it result in a reliable install?

proper sequence of steps to successfully clone my existing HDD to the 850 Pro SSD.
Â
I am most curious as to what bios settings needed to be made before, during, or after the cloning process (AHCI?)
Â
I purchased a USB 3.0 to SATA cable to work with the process but don't know if I take the old drive out first and connect it to the cable, or connect the SSD to the cable and start the process.

I recently bought an ideapad y510p. It came with win8 pre-installed and I don't have any recovery CDs. I plan to play around with linux on this laptop, but don't want to lose win8. So before I potentially reformat everything away, I'm thinking of making a clone copy of my hard-disk to an external USB drive. The general plan is like this,
Â
1. make copy of laptop HDD to external usb drive
2. muck around with linux - and stupidly reformat everything in the process
3. get fed up with linux and want to go back to windows
4. copy back data from external usb driver to latop HDD
5. return to comfort of win8
Â
Will using this tool (clonezilla) work in the above scenario? [URL] ...
Â
My intent with the backup, is that after I "restore" things, the "one key recovery" button should continue to work as before.

The only reason I purchased my xps m1710Â is that I thought it was the top of the range model at the time, now all I want to do is replace the hd but at the same time retain all the functionality of the hidden restore partition and the media centre partition. You would expect Dell would make this easy for me as the owner and as Dell market themselves as providing user friendly IT solutions.
I have tried using trueimage to clone the drive but when trying the new drive on boot up it gets to the Dell 'blue bar' then freezes. I have tried copying partition by partition but this is even less successful.
I have tried restoring the restore 'ghost' image to the new hard drive but symantec ghost reports incompatibilities with the image file.
I am upgrading my original Samsung hd (SATA) to a new hd and would like to keep the hidden partition and mediacentre partition as my original hd. I have a new SATA hd which is currently connected in a USB enclosure. I am not a hd or filesystem expert and don't want to spend a year studying the goodells website.

I tried to upgrade the wlan module in my Acer TravelMate 4233WLMi from the original Intel 3945abg mini-pci module to the Intel 4965abn mini-pci.
Windows Vista immediately recognised the new module, installed the drivers and noted the the new interface is now up and running and ready for use.
In fact it's not - the wlan-led on the front of the notebook stays dark - when I tried to switch it on via the front panel switch the notebook displays "no wlan module found".
The device manager in Vista still displays it as up and running.
I put in the original module again and the switch, led and wlan works again.
So my question is whether I received a faulty 802.11n module or whether the 4965abn is simply incompatible with the Acer 4233WLMi ...

I have a two year old 5633WLMI (Nvidia graphics) Upgraded the RAM to 4gb only to find that 3gb was being shown in BIOS and Vista 32/64.
Downloaded the latest BIOS update from Acer, (v3.50) updated via Dos - Boot USB pen drive, haflway through updating it turned off, now DEAD, no power/lights/screen - tried silent/forced BIOS update but failed due to no power to board.
I contacted Acer, who were not that helpful to be honest, who told me to contact my local service centre (São Paulo, Brazil) again they were not to helpful. so I'm now sat here with an expensive paperweight.
Fairly sure the MBD has fried, so, How on earth do I get one to me to fit?
every site I've seen requires you to send the old to them but they won't ship to brazil or are incredibily expensive.

I have an ACER Aspire 5520, (model ICW50) with AMD Turion TK55. I tried to upgrade it with the BIOS available under the model's specified page in ACER site, version 1.33 (IC50133.WPH).
Unfortunately I was naive enough to try flash32.exe, which is the windows base version of the flashing program; now I have a dead BIOS. Windows froze completely, I had to unplug and disconnect battery to have it down, and it never came up.
Then I did a lot of research and I found and browsed hundreds of pages about Crisis Recovery Mode (CRM). From all I read there are some misconceptions I want to get past:
1 - Deal with different CRM versions, which get accessed by Fn+B, or Winkey+B; on my case I have found that CRM gets accessed with Fn+Esc.
I know it, because instead of powering up and then dying in 3 or 4 seconds on an eternal loop, when I press and hold Fn+Esc and then I connect the power adapter (with battery disconnected), I get a quick orange flash under the power button. So, when I press the power button the computer keeps running, fan is running, and it is checking HD and CD-ROM drives.
2 - There is a lot of myth about the way one has to press and hold Fn+Esc. You just have to press it before you connect the power cable. As long as you get the quick orange flash under the power button, you know the PC is in CRM. I have done all the fancy combinations of holding those keys down, but it all ends up in the same. By the way, even if you connect the battery, instead of the power adapter, once you are holding Fn+Esc it gives the same result: orange flash, you are in CRM. Of course you do not want to flash it using the battery, that's why the emphasis on connecting the power adaptor instead.
3 - Most of the info I found about this matter then turns to building the Crisis Recovery Disk (a floppy) or a CR pendrive. It does not solve my problem because when in CRM, the computer completely ignores the USB ports, the 4 of them, I tried one by one, be it with 2 different kinds of USB floppy drives, or pendrives duly formatted in FAT. There is no blinking of light on either. There is no attempt at all to access any of the USB ports......................

I got for my son an Acer Aspire 4520 as a cost effective notebook for an extended study trip and I was pretty much impressed with my first encounter with Acer. It was also my first encounter with Vista HP and I do like it.
The package didn't include any system discs and I understand you create them with Acer's eRecovery Management. I started with creating the factory default discs which required two DVDs. I also chose the option of verifying the data on the burnt DVD. The first DVD got burnt and verified fine but the second DVD failed to verify. This outcome was repeated twice. Acer's tech support was responsive and ordered me a set of discs at no charge, however this incidence casts a shadow on the quality of Acer's packaged support software.
I noticed another glitch: the backup wizards prompts you to insert a disc for burning and when you do that Window's auto play menu comes up and expects you to pick an application to deal with the empty disc. I simply ignored it and the disc got burnt anyway, but this shouldn't happen.
I wonder if and how other Acer owners were able to burn their system discs using this particular Acer SW.

Also, can the recovery partition be used to repair Win 7 Â or is the recovery partition only to format the drive and install software the way it was when new ?

Did the HD test and it failed, begins to boot but goes to black screen w/ cursor. What I was told when I called HP and from what I reasearched myself you can't just pop another HD in without encountering problems and even another dead HD. Is it the software in the laptop or are some HDs not compatible? Is there an HD that I can use without having issues? The old HD is a Samsung HM 121 Hl 120GB 5400 SATA-150.

I swear it is always something with this product. I made a bootable USB flash drive and put Windows 7 on it. I have 2 M1330's, the only difference between them is CPU/RAM/HDD. One of them boots just fine off the USB drive, the other doesn't. They are both running the A15 BIOS. What am I missing here? I've compared the BIOS settings side by side and they are identical.

Are all Nvidia GPU's designed to fail?
All my systems in my sig have replaced GPU's in a less than a year.
Is this what I get for trying to get a performance GPU's?
Kind of ennoying because I hate the tech's to come to my place and rape my system - I'm not saying all techs do, but I only had one guy who was really careful w/ my system when he was replacing parts. Others just didn't give a damn, which even lead to replacing my M1330.
I caught him when some plastic part from mobo flew off my system, and when he closed the system up, the system refused to boot up lol.
my XPS gen 1 w/ ATI still runs okay at my mom's place.

I've noticed since installed windows 7 and even before my reformatted and was on vista that my XPS1530 was having some major slow downs.
I can still game, etc but sometimes when extracting files the entire system will stop, no browsing or music. Even when openning mp3 files it can do this like as if the entire drive is loading.
Then today I thought of the WD dianostic tools and it failed! It said: Cable Test::Write sector error. Anyone know what that could mean? Broken cable? If so what can I replace it with?
