This is a new laptop. Finally got Gparted running
I need to have my hand held for a bit.
I want to enlarge the C drive and divide the D drive up as follows:
C drive 70 to 97 GB
D 69.5 to 30 GB
Plus E, F, and G of 4 GB each.
Do I delete the current D drive first and then enlarge C?
This uis Gparted LiveCD V0.4.4-1.ISO downloaded from SourceForge
I tried running gparted to partition my drive. in order to create a new partition for windows 7. upon opening gparted it showed only one hard drive and it's capacity was 298gb and labeled unallocated. It said if I want to partition it will wipe the whole disk. so I canceled in fear that it would wipe my c and d drives. I exited and rebooted my computer and now all i get is a black screen with a white flashing line in the top left corner. I did switch in the bios to boot from hdd back to first and I also took the cd out. Is there I way I can fix this without doing a Factory restore?
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf you are thinking about formatting and re-installing the OS, and setting up new partitions, use GParted. It is a free and very easy to use program. I couldn't believe how easily it worked sparing me the $40-$60 that a good partition program uses. I just thought I would give these guys some free press since they do all that work for free.

In control panel devices it tells me to troubleshoot the laptop and cannot rectify problem with Broadcom virtual wireless adaptor. Secondly running the diagnostics say the Read test is not running. These are the only problems but are not affecting the efficiency of the PC. Should I ignore it?

Was thinking that probably the only upgrades worth considering were ram and hdd.
If this is the case what size mem and spec will work?
If the hdd is worth upgrading do I go for internal or external? and what size ?
I was wondering if it was possible. Are most of the drivers available for xp? If so, can you direct me to some links?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI put on cpu-z ( I got the crappy ram like some of the others) but what I thought was odd that it said FSB was 800 and multiplier was 8 and indicated my CPU was running at 1.6Ghz. Is this an error on CPU-z?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a bit older Acer Extensa 4620Z - quite a while back (probalby 9 months) i had problems with it and it stopped working, couldnt find operating system or hard drive. I finnally decided to buy a new hard drive for it once i found out it was that the hard drive had died. I got my new seagate harddrive and installed it - I also order recovery disks from Acer so I could get my system back up and running.
This is where my problem is. I can see the harddrive from bios and at first when i tried running the recovery disks it kept saying there was no appropriate partition. I made a bootable copy of a program so I could create partitions on the harddrive. I did this and then tried running the recovery disks. This time it went further and started the recovery process but everytime it gets to D1E4T303.044 in the process (at 47%) - it stops... and sits there a second and then either jumps to 100% and starts over or an error pops up (error: 0xD000001D).
I can not figure out where to go from here - isn't there some way I can use the recovery disks to get my system up and running on the new hard drive?
I've been trying to get Vista Ultimate to run on my laptop for a while now, and every time I install using a clean installation, it runs painfully slow. If i have more than one window open its not even worth using. So I always run back to XP and I'll be honest in saying that I'm quite bored with it.
how to make it run better with Aero?
My Laptop's Specs Are
Brand: Acer Extensa 4220
CPU: Intel Celeron CPU 560 - 2.13GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
Graphics: Moblie Intel GMA X3100
CPU-Z is showing that my T9400 occasionally changes to either 10 or 10.5 multiplier. SiS Sandra Lite also lists it as a 2.79GHz processor.
I thought it was locked down at 9.5. Guessing it's due to it being an ES... Is there a way to control it?
I have an issue with my acer 5520. When I press F2 and enter setup My computer will just shut off! It may take 5 seconds or even up to 20 seconds but I got on to change my login options and it just shut off. I did this several times and it shut off time after time. My computer never turns off when I load windows and run Vista. I don't know if I need to update my bios or what.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought this new acer 3680 1 month ago because i needed a laptop for my studying. basicly all i need it for is to take notes from classes, and surf the web (youtube etc).
ok so basicly the first impression with preinstalled vista was horrible. incredible lag... 3 seconds delay at all times when browsing the web. and completely unable to playback any form of media with any other windows open without the sound lagging like crazy... all that kind of stuff
but the main problem seems to be the fan. It runs at high speed (producing as much noise as my desktop computer). The fan turns on aprroximately 4 minutes after you turn on your computer, or immediately after you open an application.. and it just keeps on running untill you turn off your computer... It is so annoying that i have trouble bringing the computer to class (which is where i really need it!) because i feel embarrased about the noise, and frankly i think this is an annoyance to the other students aswell. Is this a common problem with 3680? No one of the other students pc's fans run when they just use basic applications like word, or internet explorer, and they certainly dont do it when simply idling on the desktop.
furthermore it needs to be said that i have messed around with vista alot, and tweaked it in every possible way to remove pressure of the cpu.. and ofc removed all antivirus programs etc. Furthermore i tried installing XP, and guess what.... it took 5 mins of idling on the desktop in the brand newly installed xp for the fan to start again!!! so i conclude that the problem is not caused by vista overloading the cpu!. Does anyone else have this problem with their aspire 3680? maybe im just overly sensitive about the noise, but really it isnt supposed to run at all times.

i try all. Dismantle notebook and display and check all the cables tucked, reinstal windows (thus eliminating the possibility that this may notebook hardware control)
stripe appear to be in the wound or the movement of the table with display
Bought this notebook on Oct.30/14. Used it this past Friday; was working fine. Plugged it in for the night and the next day, I noticed the fan was running and I wasn't able to boot it. It won't shut off using the power button on side. The only way to shut it off was by using a paper clip on the reset on the bottom of the notebook.

Although I primarily use the internet, I have google chrome, it is also general processes that take long. For example, to open the start menu, then to choose a program then for the program to open can take several minutes.

It originally came with Visa but I downgraded to XP and had been using it without problems for awhile. It started getting a little slow so I recently installed (and soon after uninstalled) a bunch of optimizing / driver updating programs. After playing around with those, my laptop is running super slow... I can't watch videos, the buffer causes it to just show the image while the audio plays... After running Dr. Hardware it looks like my CPU is only running at 800mhz which is a lot slower than it used to.
View 10 Replies View Relatedand there is another issue regarding memory running low, i'm running on 2GB ram and after awhile of using the laptop around 1-2 hours it will prompt memory low issues.. but the weird thing is i run only the standard program like MSN and OPERA .. any solutions? sorry for the lack of information but this only what i get off.. if you need extra info i'll be glad to post it up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 9301awsmi with 1GB Ram running Vista HP. Been wondering whether it's worthwhile upping the RAM to 2gb.
1. Have used "Crucial" to see what they recommend. Would an upgrade work straight off and be recognised correctly or are any BIOS changes needed. Never entered the BIOS yet!
2. What sort of gains could I reasonably expect. The biggest slowdown I have is with FSecure and certain webpages ( Forums etc ) where the system can freeze now and then.
Would more RAM help here. Resource monitor shows FSecure as the culprit hogging the HDD. Start up from cold for the desktop to fully appear is around 3+ minutes with a further 3 or 4 minutes of pretty hard HDD thrashing when things are a bit unresponsive.
My specs for my Laptop (Acer Aspire v5-552G) says that the speed of my CPU is clocked at 3.5 GHz, how-ever all measurements I have taken, it wornt pass 2.9 GHz.
what this may be caused?

Face login is a pain. It never works. How do I disable it? I have searched the manual, internet and contacted acer (they wanted £65 to answer and my laptop is only two weeks old!) I am about to do a factory restore in the hope that it will give me a fresh start with an option NOT to choose face or any login for that matter!

I own an Acer Aspire 5742, model no. PEW71. It is running on Windows 7. I included a vid for you to see what the problem is: [URL] ....
So, as you can see, the computer can be turned on, but it doesn't get through the acer screen on to the windows picture, and it automatically reboots and shuts itself down again over and over again. This has happened in the past, but the repairers have reset the operating system and BIOS. They also switched the hard disk for a new one, but this could be because of some other problems I was having (USB channels weren't working).
Everything worked fine for a month or so, and then it happened again. I myself am thinking about the motherboard being damaged.When this happened in the past however, I was still able to turn on my PC sometimes, so I was also able to save my files. Now on the other hand, I can't get the computer on anymore. The most important thing to me is saving the files. After that, I'll take it away for reparation again, where they will probably delete everything again (I can't commicate with the repairers myself, so I can't discuss terms or anything).
At the end of the vid you can see me turning off the computer by pulling out the adapter. Removing both the adapter and accu is the only way the computer can be turned off. Even shutting it down by pushing the on/off button for 5 seconds will not prevent the auto re-boot.
It still did not solve the issues with my USB ports. I have noticed that the exclamation mark is no longer there but still all my USB ports are still not working.

Microsoft Update returns an error that the update service is not running. I check the services, and see that it is running.
I downloaded the SATA drivers (Rapid Storage Technology, I think). The setup returns an error not found in the ini file??
How can I get the Microsoft Update running again?
I've run the Win 7 upgrade adviser and it says the system can run Win 7 as it has CPU 1.6 Ghz and 2.0 GB of RAM. However in the device section it says that the Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family is not compatible - driver not compatible with Windows 7 . Is there a driver I can download to fix this problem? I've checked the Intel download web site but can't determine whether a driver exists or not ??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation.
I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0.
Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work?
I'm seeing the following:
600 MB Healthy (Recovery Partition)
300 MB Healthy (EFI System Partition)
449 GB Healthy (Boot, Page etc...)
15.5 GB Healthy (Recovery Partition)
Given I'm supposed to be running OEM Windows 8.1 shouldn't 1 of the first 2 partitions say OEM?
If that is so I know what I've done and it will probably require a recovery disk to set things straight (i.e. recover the original Acer version of Windows 8.1). This is a follow-on from a previous post where I foolishly installed an evaluation copy of Windows 10 instead of running it using virtual software (which is what I usually do with these things) - I can't remember for sure but it's likely I installed it by formatting the whole disk and probably wiping the OEM partition.
I do have a system image taken a few days before I installed W10 but suspect the OEM wasn't included...which is what is displayed above after I reloaded it.
