View 10 RepliesI have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.
I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.
I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.
When I turn on my laptop ,ocassionaly, the screen turns white. At first i thought it was a driver issue because it would only happen when windows loaded. But now it does it when i turn it on before windows starts loading, leading me to believe that this is a hardware issue. does anyone know what i should replace in the laptop inorder to fix this problem?

The Last 30 days, @ boot-up, the screen will turn solid white when I try to start it up. All I can do is hold power button down to power off and retry. 9 0 % of time, retry fails(does same thing), but occasionally I can go to startup repair , run system restore and use machine for 2 or 3 times before the next white-out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have repaired a few laptop in my time so when a friend said his screen was black but he could read it with a flashlight I guessed right away it was an inverter problem.
I got a new inverter off of *bay, carefully removed the display bezel, swapped in the new inverter and powered it up. Successfully boots into Windows ! Shut it down, screwed the inverter down, put the bezel back on and now the display comes on for 1 second, just long enough to see that "Acer" splash screen, and then goes black. Yes you can still read the screen with a flashlight.
Checked the power in and out wires, they look good. Re-seated both connectors. unscrewed the inverter board from the display so that it is :floating". Nothing. Swapped in the old inverter and it acts the same ?

I stumbled on this forum and read a few posts about how some of you put a dual core processor in it. I noticed that the Core 2 Duo T7100 was used and I had some questions.
My first question is...
The current processor is a Intel Celeron 540 with a FSB speed of 533 MHz. The ram is also 533 MHz. However, the T7100 I want to use has a 800 MHz FSB. If I use this processor, won't I get problems with the processor having a faster FSB than the ram?
My second question is...
If anyone has done this processor upgrade, can you see a difference in the battery life? Currently, with the Celeron processor, I get 1 hour 45 minutes of battery life. Will the T7100 extend the battery life?
I sent my Acer Aspire 4315 notebook to their repair center in Texas. I had a problem with the jack input for the power. It wasn't responding and found out that it was broken (Update: it wasn't actually broken it just felt very loose to the point were it might break). Also the left corner of the notebook was loose. In order to send in your notebook you have to use there online acer depot repair request system. So I sent it in using UPS ground which cost me $40. After 3 days I received and email saying it was received. 2 days later I receive another email saying it was fixed and will be shipped back using Fedex. Then 4 days later when I got home I received a "door tag" saying i wasn't there to pick up the package and sign for it. It came at 11:30 A.M and I get home a 4:00 P.M. So obviously I couldn't sign for it. Because of this problem I called and requested that they ship it after 4:00. They said they can ask the driver but it doesn't guarantee that will be shipped at the time you requested. So the next I come home I get another "door tag" saying I missed my package the second time. This time I asked them to leave it at there facility and let me pick it up. They said I would have to wait until tommorow to get my package. Tommorow arrives and I pick it up. Finally I have my notebook. I now drive back and open up the box. It came with a paper saying it was fixed. So I now get my AC adapter to plug it in. And guess what? They didn't fix the problem. I carefully looked at the paper and it said that they fixed problem stated which in there mind was the loose left corner of my notebook. WTF? They didn't even bother to fixed the important problem, the POWER JACK! That's horrible service! I then call them saying they didn't fix the problem. after being transferred 5 YES 5 TIMES! The support person said they will pay for the shipping to send it back. Which means that I will have to wait even more to get it back AGAIN and actually have it fixed. The only good part about it being shipped back is that they are going to use Fedex priority overnight. WOW WHAT A TREAT!
UPDATE: I havn't shipped the laptop back. I was about to until I decided to take one last "explore" inside of it. I found out that the power jack wasn't directly attached to the motherboard, just a wire leading to it. So with a little superglue or epoxy it would be fixed. Now that I know what to do. There will be no need to send it back and wait another horrible week!
Today I was using my laptop (Acer Aspire 5742G) normally and then suddenly my screen freezes and turns off. The picture at that moment when the screen froze was covered with green horizontal lines and some small green squares and then the screen switched off while the laptop continued to operate normally.
I tried to restart my laptop, but the screen does not turn on, and looks like laptop is working normally because I can hear the windows login sound (led indicators for WIFI and read data from the HDD are working). I tried to connect the laptop and TV via an HDMI cable, but the TV does not get any picture.
Just got this Lpatop, popped battery in, plugged it in. I turn it on, keyboard backlight comes on, the fans spin up, nothing comes on the screen. Nothing is coming out of the HDMI port, really frustrated at this point as this is the second Acer laptop i bought that had issues (granted first one was used so I gave Acer a pass).

Anything I can do to fix this or is it just dead and send it back?
The color display appears to be corrupted. 2/3 of the screen is perfect, one third is a band of white with a few thin lines of black and what appears to be black feather at the bottom. This happended my screen got stuck and I took the battery out to shut down the computer. I've already done a recovery. No improvement.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought an Acer Aspire V/-582PG 15,6" HD touch a month ago. Today I was playing games with a couple of friends when the screen suddenly turned white. I could still hear the game music and could talk to my friends on mumble. I tried to put the computer to sleep and turn it on again, but the screen was still bright white. I then tried to shut it down and start it again; the screen was still white.
I then connected it to my tv using hdmi. This enabled me to see the Windows login screen. Shortly after I logged in to Windows, the computer shut down. Now i can't start it and none of the lights on the computer are on.
My laptop would not turn on at all and no lights came one so I bought a new motherboard.
Ive installed the new motherboard, but now when I turn it on the lights turn on, the fan spins, the dvd drive clicks a few times but the screen stays blank. Nothing comes on even after a few minutes. I disassembled the entire laptop again and put everything back together but still nothing comes up on the screen. I reseated the RAM and HDD but still no luck.
The other day my daughter clicked off the internet, and shut the laptop. I have the laptop set so if you close the lid it shuts down instead of "going to sleep". When I tried to turn the laptop back on I got the Acer screen, and then it went wierd/white'ish and I held the power button to shut it down so I could restart. When I tried to restart I got the "safe mode" restart screen. When I procceded past that I got a black/blue screen. Shut it down again with the power button. Now everytime I try to restart the laptop the LEDs light up, the fan kicks on, and the HD clicks and the laptop powers off. Then it will restart on it's own. LEDs come on, fan starts, and HD clicks and shuts off. It will do this as long as you sit there and let it. Doesn't matter if it's on battery power, or plugged in. I removed the battery and let it sit over night, reinstalled, and that exact same thing happens...
View 10 Replies View Relatedfor the past 3 days my Acer 8920G has been acting..very strange. It randomly turns off/has a blue screen, then I can't use it for 6-10 hours before it works again, but then only for 30 min then repeats. I've checked the temperatures for the HDD/CPU/GPU on the time I was on, and the HDD was 58C, CPU and GPU were around 50C (With FF3.5, iTunes, MSN and Vuze running). I've taken off the back panel and removed the dust but that didn't do anything at all. This morning I turned it on after leaving it upside down (back panel on) to vent all the air (if I left it open more dust would've gone in) and it wouldn't even hit the desktop. Kept crashing when it hits the desktop (that's basically what happens when I try and turn it on after it has a blue screen or turns off). So I opened the back panel and let my hand hover over the components - no heat what so evr radiated from it, which means it can't have overheated...right? Now I can only run it with the back panel off, which I'm doing now in a well ventilated area.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy 5290g broke yesterday morning. after switching on, checking my emails and viewing some forums I decided to give old Silent Hunter 4 a go and then IT happened. Screen went pitch black, I could hear game's background music for few seconds and then all froze. After reset instead of ACER start screen I got white screen with some vertical stripes. I can hear HDD working, after a while I can see colours of my logging screen but everything is still a mess: after putting my password in screen is divided to 2 parts - one with my wallpaper colours and one black with single dots of different colours.
First suspicion was of course graphic card, but after opening the laptop I couldn't smell anything. So maybe it's LCD screen itself. I'm trying to borrow LCD monitor and check if the video-out socket is working to eliminate the graphic card.
My question is:
1. Did anybody had same experience with 5290g?
2. Can you recommend any decent online shop selling MMX graphic cards or LCD screens - UK only pls.
3. Any tips to improve cooling in this type of Acer?
I have an Acer Aspire 5517 Laptop.
Operating System is Window 7 X 64 Home Premium.
AMD Athlon TF-20 1.6 GHz Processor
2 GB RAM_ Physical Memory
220 GB Hard Drive
I leave my computer on during the day, and leave it occasionally for short periods of time..Lately, when I come back to it, the screen will be black..It is black because the computer turns itself off, for no reason that I can find out. When I turn it back on I get a caption that says the "user (name)has been locked out." Below that is a caption that I can click on that reads "switch user." If I click that caption, it says "user logged on." Which is the user that was just locked out! I click on that and my desktop comes up like nothing happened....
So far, to try and correct it, I have flashed the BIOS, because it needed updating. I thought this might work, but it has not corrected the problem. I have also done all of the standard things like defrag., cutting down on desktop icons, fewer starting programs, etc.
My Acer aspire switch 10 automatically turns itself off if it is charging and the lid is closed, when i tru to use it i find it hard to turn on and 99% or th time i need to hold the poer button for 10-15 seconds once or twice for it to power on. Never used to do this when i got it but not sure if it is windows being buggy or hardware...
