Dell Inspiron 14z :: Unexpected Shutdowns While Gaming
Mar 5, 2013
I am facing unexpected shutdowns while playing games. I have a Dell Inspiron 14z (n411z). Its about 7 months old. In the beginning , games worked very well on it but now when I try to play the same games the laptop shut downs without any warning. I ran the Dell diagnostics from the boot menu and it said, "Warning. One or more thermal sensors were out of range." and it was highlighting the cpu thermistor...
I fired up Call of Duty 4 for some online gaming whilst at the parentals house, all well and good. Then after a few (maybe even one) minutes gaming, PING, and the laptop shuts off.
Strange I thought, as this has never happened to me before. The first things that ran through my mind were the graphics card had overheated and caused the system to automatically shut down. Although this has never happened to me personally before, I have heard of other people having this problem, and since I overclock, I reasoned this could well be the case.
I've been having a few problems with my sony Sr. When I was carrying it around in school in a nicely padded case, I had a couple "unexpected shutdowns". I have no idea what causes these, but does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there any way to prevent this? I'm not very rough on my laptop, although it might be bumped a little from outside the bag.
Also, on two occasions, the laptop started up from sleep inside the bag unintentionally.
It heated up a lot inside the bag, although it's not what I would consider an overheat, because I had no slow-downs, crashes, or shutdowns. However, after the second time this happened, my fan has been going very fast and cycling between very fast and fast speeds, much faster than normal. This is happening even hours after I shut it down for 12 hours and let it cool off. Is there a solution for this problem, and could there have been some sort of damage?
One more quick thing: the little tube things connected on top of the power switch and power cord connector wiggle when pushed. Is this normal?
I'm trying to re-install Vista 32 bits on my laptop, but it gives me a error. The error that I get is:
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100
it's happened in the past while gaming, but not as much as recently. while carrying the laptop recently I believe I broke the fan somehow and it's causing it to overheat even more. I believe the best choice is probably replacing the fan, but I've found it is extremely difficult to find the exact fan in my laptop. How compatible does the fan have to be to be replaced? Is it absolutely necessary to replace the fan?
After installing Win7 (Acer Upgrade) on my 4810TG Timeline I experienced two unexpected shutdown, with BSOD during the start (right after boot screen). Any similar behaviour or solution?
I have a Acer 1410-2285 with the dual core U2300 processor running Windows 7 (64 Bit). I am having a what seems to be an excessive number of blue screen error shutdowns/restarts (2-3 per day). This seems to happen the most often when the notebook is asleep and I wake the machine up to the "Windows did not shutdown properly message" but occasionally I do see the BSOD when I am using the machine.
The only modification I have made to to the notebook was to install 4GB of PC6400 ram. I updated the drivers with what Acer has posted on their website, but i have not tried to install the non-Acer drivers.
I bought an ACER ultrathin S7 392 about 7 months ago and for the last month it has been shutting down unexpectedly when on battery but not when plugged into the mains. There is no shutdown routine, crash or error message it just loses all power. A second issue which may or may not be related is that sometimes when i attempt to shutdown the unit it restarts instead. I have sent it back to ACER support to fix but I think they just reinstalled windows and when they sent it back they had not fixed the problem. I have since contacted them again and they said it was fine when it left the workshop.
I have games such as COD4, Crysis, and Assassins Creed. What are the best drivers I can get for this laptop in order to play these games with good quality? I've done some reading and saw that it's possible to overclock the GPU.
Is this safe? Is it really worth it? I'd like to try and increase the quality. I've never really played Crysis or Assassins creed because it was a bit choppy.
I have since installed the T9300 processor and havn't tried crysis since as I replaced my HDD with a 7200 vs the 5400 that was in it.
I'm on a dell inspiron N5110 laptop, 6gb installed ram, Intel core i5-2430m processor, intel HD graphics 3000. When I play games like Planetside 2 I have to turn it on low and the render quality to the lowest setting, and turn shadows off and I still get bad fps 20-40. What i'm wondering is there anyway through settings I can boost the gaming performance to the point where it runs fine on low to medium. Or is there an external/internal graphics card for under 100 bucks I can buy to boost the performance. I also have all my Intel and I believe dell drivers up to date.
I have Dell 7720 17r SE for almost a year now,I remember it as a fine gaming rig.I used to play Dead Island, Fallout New Vegas on max settings and resolutions,But ever since the latest A13 BIOS upgrade and the new 314.22 Nvidia Driver.
I noticed a significant drop in performance. Almost every game started to lag when the action becomes too "crowded" (lots of enemies etc).
And as for Dead island I noticed the performance drop after 20min of play. Not sure about overheating. (It seems like the usual temp if not maybe a Celsius hotter)
Noticed gaming performance drop after updating the bios and latest GPU driver???
I bought Dell Inspiron N5110 about year ago. It has beed working perfectly fine for about 9-10 months.
When i bought it i played games like CoD Modern warfare 2 and 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2 without a single lag or spike, but now, its impossible to play games like Battlefield, even games that requires less then Battlefield have lags. I play DotA2 a lot, and sometimes its impossible to play, its like having slide show. Also started to play Torchlight 2 and also its slideshow at the moments.
I have a Inspiron N4110 and I was wondering if I could upgrade or change my specs to increase gaming performance.
HERE ARE MY SPECS:
Windows 7 Home premium 64-Bit (6.1, Build7 7601)Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz6144 MB RAMDirectx 11Intel(R) HD Graphics family32-bit Right now
Just received 2 new X220 thinkpads - I'm attempting to burn factory recovery disks on a lenovo USB multifunction cd/dvd drive.
I receive the 'error unexpected error occurred (rc=9)' when attempting to burn the disks - I came across another forum suggesting that the first disk is a CD and the rest should be DVD - This worked to burn the recovery media - however when I inserted a DVD to continue the rest of the recovery media I receive the aforementioned error.
I have gotten 1 of them to complete a full set of disks - 4 in total. The other one, no such luck.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. After two years, my laptop starts to have reduced performance in gaming and watching streaming videos. I did a factory reset. Everything seems fine.
I did a test by installing Warcraft 3 which I played with no lag at all. After that, I started to install/ update the Graphic drivers, Windows updates and installed Starcraft 2.
Then I played Warcraft 3 to test the performance and it lags like for every 2 seconds in game.
Please note that I test my system by playing WC3 after installing the following individual items:
Just like the title said, will upgrading my cpu from the T5450(1.66ghz) to a T7500(2.2ghz) change my gaming performance or is the T5450 enough power to fully run my videocard.
I OC my videocard by 30% so the clocks are 617.5Mhz/520Mhz instead of 475/400mhz, does the ocing get bottle necked by the weak cpu?
Is it worth the $100 to upgrade my cpu or should i just save the money and buy a new laptop because my 1520 is almost 2 years old but it's a very good laptop, i can get 4700 and sometimes even 4850 on 3dmark06.
Was using the Acer Arcade and was informed about the latest patch by the Live Update.
I ran the install patch and during install the McAfee informed me that two of the files were trojams and had to be removed. The files were CL26934.RRA and CLDO7416.RRA, so now when I stick my blu-ray into the drive I get an unexpected error from the Acer Arcade and it won't run.
So where did the files go, and why would ACER put out a patch that conflicts with the pre-installed anti-virus?
I was wondering if anyone has tried out any games on the V13...
I am considering getting the V13 (and you gotta admit, it's one sleek looking laptop); but would really want to be able to play Starcraft 2 on it. I simply want to play it on all low settings and have playable frame rates..
I would be getting the Core 2 Dual 1.3Ghz config...
And of course, the only video card choice, the famous GMA 4500MHD..
will there ever be a new dell gaming xps laptop "not alien ware" like a m1830 with 9800m gtx sli and quad core processor? Also will the m1530 ever be updated to support better graphics like 9800m gts
Its being a month for my first laptop. I was always upgrading my desktop as really power place to be for gaming. But finally thought to try on laptop. So ordered:

I had bought new computer "Dell Studio XPS 16" with the highest specifications, but I do not know why but my "Counter - Strike v1.6", "Need For Speed SHIFT", "Grand Theft Auto IV" are lagging.
I have owned my XPS 1530 for about 8 months now. It has been quite some time since i took my original temperatures, but i remember running games like warhammer online, call of duty, etc, at a temperature of 45c idle status , and like GPU 71c under hours of gaming. I think the hottest it got was GPU 79 degrees. 8 months later i decided to try gaming again and to my surprise my laptop is getting SO hot that it burns my hands and my speedfan shows the GPU at like GPU 64 idle ( 69 when the batter adapter is in) and up to 91-95 when on a game. I used to have a zalman laptop cooler which kept my comp a bit cooler, but i only noticed it effecting my temp. by about 2-3 degrees. I am going to undervolt and get my broken zalman replaced but I need to know one thing:
Do I have defective hardware? Is it normal to see an increase in temperatures as laptops get older? I am very afraid that something is damaged. Also, is there a specific driver that i should be running which can help my graphics card cool down, or am i one of the unlucky few who have been given a bugged 8600gt.
I realize that many people here have an m1710 and i figured this could be a place to get some answers. So im playing Oblivion on my m1710 and i noticed when i have it at the highest resolution with no AA it gets really shitty fps so i turned it down to the second highest with no AA and i still got shity fps when in battle and such. I then proceeded to turn it down even lower. After all of this I still get shitty fps (down to like 8 in battle) even when its at like 1280 by 1024 so this is all with antialiasing off and when i turn it on not much happens except like 3 less fps. So i was just wondering if anyone knew what the hell my problem was because its annoying me. Even when i overclock my graphics card it doesnt really help but maybe 3 to 4 fps better.
my specifications are: m1710/ 2gigs of ram / t7400 dual core processor 2.16ghz/ nvidia go 7950gtx ?
Which operating system will give me the BEST performance for gaming.
I do not want opinions, I want hard proof please. Please show me some before and after results of benchmarks (real game benchmarks, not just 3DMark) on XP, then again on the same hardware using Vista.
I just have to prove to a friend that XP is better for gaming than Vista is.
