Dell :: SSD (Windows 7 Optimization)

I have a G Skill Falcon II 128GB SSD, firmware 1916 (latest) installed in my Studio XPS 1645.
I understand that Windows 7 is supposed to detect that HDD is a SSD and then optimize settings to suit SSD Support. However, this does not appear to be the case. Things are still turned on and all the other tweaks that are recommended such disk defragmentation, Superfetch, ReadyBoost, as well as boot and application launch prefetching are not disabled.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how to solve this kind of issue?

I had 3 specific laptops that I was looking at buying: HP Dv3t, Sony Viao SR, and the Dell XPS 1340. I ended up choosing the HP over the other two for several reasons. My priorities were, upgraded battery, bluray, P series processor, and nothing larger than 13.3inches. The dell has no bluray (I want the bluray for my HDTV use, not laptop use) so it really came down to the Sony and the HP.

So I have been trying to optimize the sound quality of the headphone jack (I have a pair of Shure SE-420k IEMs and a small headphone amp) while trying to maintain the relatively good sound quality of the built in speakers:
Â
1. Â Uninstall Realtek drivers and use the basic Windows 8 drivers (this is what I'm currently doing)
Â
Pros: Â These drivers allow me to cleanly increase the bass with the Bass Boost (up to a 24 dB boost with whatever LPF cutoff you want) setting in the driver, so that plus a little bit of EQ for the highs in whatever music player you use (mainly Spotify and the EQualify plugin for me) plus the headphone amp yields satisfactory sound quality in my IEMs. Â This is the only way I have achieved a clean, natural sound with deep low end bass in my IEMs from this computer. Â It also gets rid of the annoying popup when you plug/unplug headphones. Â Static in the line is also reduced.

Cons: Â The above way of EQing gets you the perfect signal but at a very low amplitude so you need a headphone amp for your earphones. Â And when you listen to music or whatever through the built in speakers, you have to go through the settings and disable the Bass Boost or it will be barely audible. Â Even if you do this, the maximum volume is about half of what it was with the Realtek drivers and in apps like Hulu and Netflix this is a real problem. Â Dolby Home Theater 4 also goes away when you uninstall Realtek but you don't really need it at this point.

2. Â Keep the Realtek drivers and EQ the crap out of the earphones with whatever music software you use

Pros: Â The built-in laptop speakers are loud and sound great.
Â
Cons:  Hiss in the line when it comes to earphones.  If you don't EQ, the $400 earphones sound like $10 earphones.  And if you do EQ: 1.  They don't sound natural, 2.  Since most EQs only go to +-12 dB, the only way to get a +24 dB bass boost without distortion is to put your bass frequencies at +12 dB and all your other frequencies at -12 dB and this just sounds weird, also many EQs don't have a 32 Hz band, 3. To sum it up you can't get satisfactory sound out of the headphone jack, 4. There's a popup whenever you plug/unplug the earphones.

For those that use Windows on your Mac's, which version do you recommend? I'm thinking, what's best for battery life, performance etc..
I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP2. I'm tempted to go with XP for simplicity, and the fact that it has equal compatibility and a shed load less intrusive DRM.

I was install new windows 7 x64, i have turn on AHCI, then when installation was finish and reboot windows start and freez, i only see black screen and white curosr.
When i turn off ahci i was fine, but i need ahci to turbo memory.

Can I have multiple boots on my system. One Windows 7 and other Windows 8. Or can I create some disk for the installed windows 8 so that in future I can installed it again if I wish to.

I am constantly losing wifi connectivity with this new laptop or having slowed down connectivity with 2 out of 5 bars even from 20 feet away; the pages i try to load constantly jump to loading pages previously loaded, etc. I have an inspiron desktop at home with windows 7 i have used for the past three years which have given me no such problems, so i am finding all this interruptions extremely frustrating.

Has anyone clean installed Windows 7 on their new Inspiron laptops? I just bought a E1545 and it came with Windows 7. I'd like to clean install and I was wondering if it was as easy as popping in the Windows 7 DVD and waiting for it to install and then just dling the drivers online and installing.
And how about Windows XP? I know most people have gotten used to and accepted Windows 7... but has anyone installed WIndows XP on their laptop that came with Windows 7 originally? I mean a native install, not virtual...
If no one has done this yet, I am willing to create a guide if it is requested and if I succeed in doing so...

I could not install windows 7 because of the above subject. I tried to load drivers for RAID installation it says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. Although i have downloaded the driver from intel website (the link you have provided).
is it maybe i tried to install the driver from the hard disk?

I have an acer laptop e1-571 with windows 8. the mb failed ordered a new one installed it. on boot now i get no bootable device. The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.Â

The hard drive on my Aspire 5745 was replaced (same size 640 GB) when I install Windows, it hangs on the Windows logo as its swirling and about to start. I have checked in the BIOS to disable UEFI boot but unable to see this option.

i want to uninstall everything that is i want to ununistall the OS VISTA thus replacing it with WINDOWS XP.
But unfornately i have failed to install OS (XP) on my laptop which came with pre-installed Windows Vista. I not been able , but when i boot my lapto using Windows XP CD it copies the required files but when i press ENTER to install Windows XP the message appears that " Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacture supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3." Please note I have C: drive installed windows vista on it, i have drive D: files are available for recovery disk pre-installed by the windows vista or manufacturer. My lapto is ACER MODEL 4320. Please advise how to install how to install the operating system on this computer.

My Y580 should be arriving shortly. I got it on the Black Friday Special and it comes with Windows 8. I bought a SSD to replace the HDD and I am wanting to downgrade it to a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate or Pro and I have a couple questions:

Have an HP DV8110us Pavilion notebook purchased in 2006. Â Running XP SP3. Â Upgrading to Windows 7 with a clean install. Â Ran the MS Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Â This notebook has the AMD Turion 64-bit chip running at 1.8 mhz. Â I have 2 GB memory. Â Looking through the Win7 options, I decided to order Win7 32-bit, since I'm only carrying 2 GB of memory. Â Win 7 64-bit seems to be happier with 4 GB. Â While the Advisor shows I have some drivers that need updating after Window 7 is installed, I just noticed that the Realtex RTL8139/810x NIC needs a new driver for 32-bit Win7, but under 64-bit Win7, the NIC is compatible.

Should I have ordered the 64-bit Win7 ? Â Or should I look around for a new Realtek driver ? Â Realtex has a link to an old Vista driver that should work. Â Other searches suggest that a workable driver might be on the Win7 DVD.

We have purchased an HP Pavilion G6 2300st to our parents with Windows 8 installed. Unfortunately, they are having diffuculties to use Windows 8. So I thought that we need to downgrade to the windows 7.

I downgraded to windows 7 and now my internet is not working neither are my fn keys in particularly the one that turns the wireless on and off is not working either. I looked at the bottom of my laptop and this is the model.

with a new computer, hp dv6 on windows 7, i need to transfer windows xp files over.
so it's sort of like drag and drop, except wirelessly.
the windows xp is a desktop with a router configured and the laptop configured to use the router for wireless access...
ive been trying to understand how all this works, but i cannot simply manage to access windows xp, or using windows xp to access windows 7!
i have a cat5 cable if that is needed... but i dont know what to do with it..
Even if it's not wireless and with the CAT5 cable, i am willing as long as it gets transferred, i just prefer wireless
and i think i rea that Homegroup is not compatible with Windows XP so what do I use?
it's also confusing that in my Network Map on windows 7, it does not pick up the shared documents folder on my desktop.
