I have been extra careful caring for this laptop but it seems no matter how hard I try, the screen always develops a few "chinks" (small scratches that look like dots that cast a reflection on the actual screen). I've tried vaseline, Novus scratch repair, and, of course, sending in the laptop for a screen replacement. It boggles the mind that such an expensive laptop can be scratched so easily.
Am I alone in experiencing this? Are people just putting up with it? Have people found a reliable screen protector to use? I'm getting exasperated. I love everything else about the computer, but the cheap plastic that covers the screen just scratches so easily (I made sure never to close the laptop's lid, and still the screen managed to get scratched!)
im really considering buying a Aluminum unibody macbook. With previous notebooks, i ended up sending them back because of the glossy screens, attracting way too much glare. could someone tell me if the new macbook screens attract excessive glare, and can someone tell me there experiences with the screen. Also does anyone know if the Aluminum body scratches easily? is it the same Aluminum used in the older ipod nanos and minis?
I've read other complaints about the scratches on the E6400. Has anyone found a successful method of buffing out the scratches on the exterior surface of the LCD panel?
Is anyone else getting little scratches on there studios where the lid rests down on the laptop? I'm getting them both on the top of the hinge and now the top of that black bar where the media controls and speakers are. You can see its from where the lid and laptop meet and rub together.
I recently bought FW 190 and used it for a week - but with my usage the back of the Lid has got few very small and minor scratches - I wouldn't have cared about it -- but now I do - because I am going to return this laptop to Sony Style warehouse and actually get a FW 390 --- which is a super sweet deal and also comes with Blue Ray Read/Write.
I just wanted to know, if anyone know how can I buff up or do something to get rid of the scratches on the back of the lid.
I bought this TZ as a refurb from Sony. I didn't notice at first, but there are a couple superficial scratches on the lid that are apparent in direct light. What would be the best way to get rid of it? I have some auto paint buffing products that I've used on carbon fiber pieces, but those had been clearcoated IIRC. What can I do about light scratches on the TZ's lid?
Is it impossible to avoid scratches on the Macbook Pros? My friend bought a MB Pro and after two weeks there are scratches everywhere in the aluminium and it doesn't look nice. Is it a bad mistake by Apply using this soft material?
I just came back from the store where they had a display model of the White Macbook and it was full of swirl marks (tiny scratches) everywhere on the outside shell. My question is... Do they come with tiny scratches like that from the factory or are they pristine when you get them?
This happened few weeks ago and I'm tired of looking at it.how I can fix these nasty scratches? I thought about some Scotch Brite pads....or buff with 600-1000 grit wet dry sandpaper? Replacement of the display shell?
I worked my off to get this laptop. So I want to protect it as much as I can for as long as I can. I realize that since this is aluminum, it may experience corrosive pitting if I'm not careful.
SO, what case is the best to prevent this and to keep scratches off? I dont care if it changes the look, just give me the best one!
Another question, how are u supposed to pull out the magsafe anyway? Everytime I try to take it out, it always feels like the edge is going to scratch near the ports
I have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 10 months ago. About 3 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came today and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but still wobbled, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem.
Now yesterday, after he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! Am I just being finicky/picky or should I ask them to fix it?
Hi all, new person here. I did a search on LCD screens but can't find my problem anywhere.
Here's the background and problem:
Vostro 1500 with Chungwha 1280x800 screen that got cracked by my kids. I ordered a replacement screen from a company off Amazon.com that was highly rated. Got the screen and installed it. It is make by Chi Mei. When I powered up the computer I got 8 screens of start up and it was very dim. Once it went past the Windows start up screen everything went black. It would only continue to Windows screen, still showing 8 windows in safe mode. I hooked up the old screen and everything worked fine.
I contacted the company and they air expressed me another screen, which I received yesterday. Hooked it up and got the exact same problem, which leads me to believe it's the Dell that doesn't like it. I will try and attach some photos because I am at a loss.
when i first got this laptop i noticed that the screen was distorted and there was red lines everywhere and the screen was shaking abit. so i contacted dell and they sent me a repair guy to fix it. he fixed it in about 15min by pulling apart the laptop and replugging in the screen. but now its happening again. so i think the thing that plugs in is loose or somethin. so what do u think i should do out of the following options.
1. open it myself and replug it (im a noob and will try remember best what he did)
2. get techinician to come in again (bothersome as i have school)
I was browsing the internet a day ago and I was on a "COLLEGE" website so i know this is not due to a virus. At this time all of a suden my screen went black.
I powered the laptop off and turned it back on, The Dell logo appeared but the screen was fuzzy and had some "tearing" i dont really know what to call it but it doesnt look right. Kind of like an old VCR playing videos. The screen then whent black after the windows xp splash screen. The laptop still boots to windows but it does not display anything.
I booted into safe mode, everything functions correctly and the way it's supposed to. I then booted into VGA mode same thing everything functions and works the way it is supposed to. I also ran some virus scans just incase, nothing was found.
Whilist in safe mode i changed the resolution down to 800 x 600 and still no luck after booting in regular mode.
In VGA mode i tryed to change resolution and the screen displayed some blue fuzzy lines then whent black.
After this I booted back into safe mode and done severeral diffrent System Restores at diffrent dates. Still no luck
After going through all this I am assuming this is a GFX card problem. The laptop is about 3 years old and ive played games pretty hard on it ever since. The card has defenitly gone through some some stress. Can anyone confirm this?
I know that the i9300 sells for about 400 working, and i checked on ebay for a card that is a whopping 180 bucks. Id just assume buy a new laptop. Then sell the i9300 laptop for parts because everything else works fine. Or maybe buy the card swich it out and sell it for a price. Maybe there is a way to fix it i dont know. can anyone help?
Lastly, i thought i would add that when i check the bios the card is recognized and it displays all the correct info for the card. IS there a way to tell for 100% that the card is bad?
Just bought the 3521 Inspiron touch screen. Two questions:Does the touch screen require a screen protector? Many different answers. Would like your opinion!The outside cover shows fingerprints (even with clean hands). Can the outside cover be replaced to a different color or type (that doesn't show fingerprints)?
whenever I play a Dvd or a downloaded video the video plays with solid black bars on the left and right side..
I assume this is full screen! I want to watch everything in Wide screen ( black bars on top running horizontally) have gone into my settings etc..including my ATI ( Catalyst Control Center) and tweaked settings still no joy!
Even on sites like You tube the same happens! Any ideas? Also posted a while ago on a reliable free data backup site! Had Dell Data Safe on-line not impressed and dumped it!

If you had the choice to choose either a Screen that has yellow ghosting, or a screen that has a lower resolution - which one would u go for?
Well I ordered a dell notebook with a 720p screen I believe that would be somewhere around 1330 x 780 - however I got a notebook with a 1600x900 screen.
The screen however has quite some yellow ghosting, which I can see for example when my charackter heals herself in oblivion. Or during fast youtube videos - especially changes between black and white, the white will have a yellow ghost following it..
Anyways, I believe if I want to get it replaced they will but the 720p screen inside.
So what are your recommendations? the ghosting is quite annoying..
would I notice a huge difference between the old and the new resolution?

Long ago (A year ago lol) I bought the Gateway FX gaming notebook. It was a great PC and could not beat the price with the hardware and performance it offered, however the screen was really bad.
At first glance it wasn’t, 1080p res and good brightness level, but when I plugged in my old external LCD monitor to dual screen, I was floored. My 4 year old desktop LCD screen was almost better in every single way.
The Gateway’s colors were dull, muddy, and dark, no matter how much I recalibrated the screen, I could not get it to look anywhere as good when compared to my Samsung screen on my desk.
is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD? it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60? what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?
I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen. how the anti-reflective screen performs?
I have pavilion dv7, so far I had no problem. Now, when I login it logs in but then instead of showing me the home screen, it goes into blank black screen. It has just started to happen and I hope there is another way to make it work without rebooting the whole system.
I'm using Aspire V5-473PG. Â Recently I noticed that my touch screen sometimes starts to hits randomly at the bottom of the screen. This problem cause some windows became minimize and maximize on its own and when i'm watching video, the video keep pause, play and pause again. I tried to find any crack on the screen but found nothing.Â
I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.
System specs: Lenovo T430U Intel i5-3427U 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz SoDIMM Memory HDD 500G 7200rpm Toshiba mSATA 24GB Samsung Cache Win 8 Pro, upgraded to 8.1 Â I rarely use this machine but a couple of months ago I went to boot it up and found that I was not able to get past the Windows splash screen. Sometimes I don't even get the Windows splash screen, I just get a black screen. Rarely I get a Windows screen saying that it is diagnosing a system problem or something to that effect and I can even get to where it will allow me to do some Windows diagnostics but nothing ever comes of it and the process is extremely slow. Â I called Lenovo, but of course my machine is out of waranty so the tech just gave me a few pointers and said I could send it in to the depo but the potential repair cost could range up to about 75% of what I paid for the machine in the first place. Anyways, after having me try a few things in the BIOS he suggested that it was likely the hard drive. I mistakenly thought from the time that I bought this machine that the OS was installed on the 24 GB SSD so I ordered a new SSD and swapped it in. This made no difference at all as I have now learned that the mSATA SSD drive is merely for cache to speed up booting. Â I am afraid that this means the main HDD is at fault, and quite frankly, if I replace it I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 7. But I do have pictures and docs that I would like to salvage if possible.
