May 14, 2009I've read other complaints about the scratches on the E6400. Has anyone found a successful method of buffing out the scratches on the exterior surface of the LCD panel?

Dell :: Little Scratches On My Studio
Sep 25, 2008Is anyone else getting little scratches on there studios where the lid rests down on the laptop? I'm getting them both on the top of the hinge and now the top of that black bar where the media controls and speakers are. You can see its from where the lid and laptop meet and rub together.

May 21, 2010I have been extra careful caring for this laptop but it seems no matter how hard I try, the screen always develops a few "chinks" (small scratches that look like dots that cast a reflection on the actual screen). I've tried vaseline, Novus scratch repair, and, of course, sending in the laptop for a screen replacement. It boggles the mind that such an expensive laptop can be scratched so easily.
Am I alone in experiencing this? Are people just putting up with it? Have people found a reliable screen protector to use? I'm getting exasperated. I love everything else about the computer, but the cheap plastic that covers the screen just scratches so easily (I made sure never to close the laptop's lid, and still the screen managed to get scratched!)

Apr 14, 2009I recently bought FW 190 and used it for a week - but with my usage the back of the Lid has got few very small and minor scratches - I wouldn't have cared about it -- but now I do - because I am going to return this laptop to Sony Style warehouse and actually get a FW 390 --- which is a super sweet deal and also comes with Blue Ray Read/Write.
I just wanted to know, if anyone know how can I buff up or do something to get rid of the scratches on the back of the lid.

Sep 8, 2009I have had my studio 1735 since they launched last summer and its in perfect condition except for little black scratches above the speaker bar.
there is 2 similarly sized and spaced small scratches that are grey (they stand out).
I was wondering if anyone experienced this problem and no of a way to paint over them or order a new metal casing

Mar 13, 2009I bought this TZ as a refurb from Sony. I didn't notice at first, but there are a couple superficial scratches on the lid that are apparent in direct light. What would be the best way to get rid of it? I have some auto paint buffing products that I've used on carbon fiber pieces, but those had been clearcoated IIRC. What can I do about light scratches on the TZ's lid?

Jan 18, 2009Is it normal that dell.ca would have fewer choices of screens than dell.com? I'm looking at the studio 15, and dell.com lists Hi Resolution/Bright,
glossy widescreen 15.4 WLED display (1440x900) as a choice, which is what I want, but dell.ca doesn't. When I view the system specs though, that choice is listed as on option.

Dell Vostro 3460 :: Not Boot Only Loads The Dell Logo And Then Shows A Black Page
Feb 9, 2013my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?
2 how can I change the boot priority order, to install mint ?

Dec 26, 2008Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook to boot up and stay unfrozen long enough for me to retrieve my files, and put them on my tower pc.
In a nutshell, I got this Inspiron about 3 years ago- I currently have it connected to an external monitor, because my wife dropped a heavy object on the screen last year, and destroyed said screen.
Just this past week, I turned it on, and it started getting really slow. Finally, it got to a point where now, when I turn it on, it boots up, it goes to the desktop, the desktop icons all appear, and within a minute or two, it just kind of slows down, and eventually freezes up, and the hard drive indicator light quits doing anything. It does not respond to anything, and the only way to restart it, is to hold the power button down until it resets.
If anybody knows of a thread already on this site, regarding this problem, please point me in the right direction, as I tried the search function, and did not come up with anything.
and one or two other things, since it initially started having problems, sometimes, I will get two "missing module" error boxes pop up- and also, while it is booting, the screen flashes black for about 3 seconds, and then comes back on and continues to load.
Thank you very much to anybody who could possibly help me out of this jam. I really do not plan on using this laptop (or notebook) anymore, if and hopefully when, I get my files off of it.
And that is the other problem, I can not attempt to boot up in safe mode, as my screen is busted up, and it will not output to my external monitor, when I hit the f key while it is starting. I did make a couple different bootable cds, but they do not seem to do anything.

Sep 14, 2007I enjoy gaming, although I wouldn't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer. I currently have 1024 MB of RAM (2 x 512) and I am looking to upgrade soon. My options are as follows:
- Dell certfied RAM
- PNY RAM
- Kingston RAM
- Corsair RAM
Of course, for the Dell RAM, I have to wait for the shipping, but it is one of the cheaper ones. However, any of the other three I can pick up at Best Buy (which is more convenient). Can someone point out the pros and cons of each? It seems the PNY is a great buy, but could there be performance problems compared to the others? And why is the Kingston so expensive?
