Dell XPS 12 :: Won't Start / Power Up After Hard Reset
Jun 11, 2013
Last night I was using my XPS w12 in laptop mode on battery and it finally got down to 7% of capacity. At that point it shut off the screen and I moved to my office to connect the AC adapter (thinking that it would simply turn the screen on when there was sufficient power. . The screen never came back (I waited 15-20 minutes) but the battery was charging. At that point I attempted a hard reset by holding the power button in the on position for 5-10 seconds.
When I tried to power up, nothing happened. No backlit keyboard, no screen, nothing but the fan. The light never came on in the switch either. So I tried another hard reset with the same results. I even tried powering up with the "D" key held down for on board diagnostics and got nothing but the fan startup.
I thought it might be an overheat issue so I let it set for an hour and tried again - nothing but the fan. It appears that the laptop doesn't pass the initial diagnostics and won't even get to the point where the bios starts to load.
I truly thought my laptop was dead and ready for service. I took it into the office the next day so I could call Dell Pro Support. Just for giggles, I plugged it in with the AC adapter and tried to turn it on - viola! it started working again.
I had this problem once before and it started working after 2-3 hard resets. I was working on a proposal when the laptop went down. I tried hard resets over a 4 hour period with no results. It baffles me why it would start OK the next morning.
I'm running the A07 BIOS (the most current) and my XPS 12 is configured with 8GB of memory and 256GB SSD with an i7 processor and Intel wireless card. The hard part is when if fails, the failure is total - you can't get to the diagnostics. When it comes back everything is fine and there are no events in the event log that relate to the failure.

I have an Aspire 6930 that suddenly died and will not power on. The LED power button was dark and unresponsive. I performed a power reset and the blue light on the power button came back on until I pressed the button to try to restart the laptop. When I did that, the blue LED immediately went dark and stayed that way until I did another power reset. It never gets to the point of anything powering on. Is it a problem with the battery or it the laptop toast?
This is a real bummer since I just replaced the hard drive a few weeks ago and replaced Windows Vista with Linux Mint (which btw is blazing fast compared to Vista).

I purchased my daughter an Aspire One 725-0687 last Christmas. She only used it a couple months and it has sat around for the past 5 months with no use at all. She went to use it today and couldn't remember her password. I tried several but continue to get the same response... "Your PC is offline. Please sign in with the last password used on this PC". For some reason, it's not connecting to wifi, I have removed the battery, I have attempted "safe mode" with Alt f5, f8 and even f10 and I get nothing except back to the sign in screen. I tried ALT, CTRL, DLT and it does nothing.

Last night I closed my Dell Inspiron 14z - 1523 when it was almost out of power. Later that night I was not able to turn it on again. Power indicator on the AC adapter is on, but when I do the AC adapter in my laptop the power indicator of my laptop stays off (when plugged in the power indicator of the AC adapter is a little less strong four half a second or so).
I read some topics on this forum and discovered the reset button at the back of the laptop. I tried this option, hope it would solve the issue, but the issue remain...

I have a Pavilion G6 that won't start at all when the power button is pushed. I've tried it on battery only, and with the power cord plugged in. Yet nothing.
Here is what I see: When the power cord is plugged in, the power LED next to the port is white. I press the power button and it momentarily flashes white (and the F12 LED flashes). Nothing else happens. No other LEDs lite, and the screen remains black.
DIagnostic steps followed:
1. Battery was removed, and unit unplugged. Power button held for 30 seconds, and plugged back in. Nothing.
2. Battery removed and unit plugged into the wall. Power button pushed and nothing.
3. Tried a different power cord, different battery .. nothing
4. Removed the RAM boards, power button pushed .. nothing
5. Removed the hard drive (RAM still uninstalled), power button pushed .. nothing

I have a Ferrari 5000 ZC3. It quit working, all was working fine it shut down itself and now it wont start at all, I only have a black screen. All that lit's up is the power button. the Numlock and caps lock led lights up about .5 sec. the hdd light lights up for about 5 seconds. when the power button is pressed again it goes off immediately.
To eliminate a hdd failure I have removed the hdd and powered up without the hard drive installed, no change at all besides that the hdd led doesn't light up.

I currently have a Acer Aspire V3 Laptop that runs on the most current version of Windows 8. Ran perfectly fine last night without any kind of problems. Went to get on it this morning and the power button won't respond. When it is plugged in, the LED light shows that it's charging, but when I try to turn it on, the power button doesn't respond. Every few presses, the power button lights up for a split second, then turns off. The screen never responds to the power button being on for a split second.

Unit powered up fine before, no issue's....worked like a champ until drive failure.
Had a hard drive error code, replaced w/ upgraded 500GB from 320GB. Computers are not my acumen although I found that I can take them apart and put them back together w/o issue-so far. Rebuilt my old Toshiba Satellite 455...new base, top, charger jack, screen, etc..works perfectly! It would be the drive which slides in on the left,, held by two screws, not the disk drive unit.
Powered up fine, than several minutes later powered off. Charger is fine, I replaced the charger jack, still won't power up.
I broke the WLAN white connector, pulled the male end off the board by accident., black OK. It broke when I went to replace the charger port. That wouldn't cause it to not power up though right?
I replaced the complete charger port board, not just the port. Seems something happened after I replaced the new driver card

I have a Latitude E6510 that will not start. When pressing the power button, the power light goes on for about 5 seconds and then turns off. I also notice the battery light flashes a few times when re-connecting the AC adapter.
Removed the battery, held in the power button 30 seconds, but still not working.
We have had this laptop about 6 months. About a month ago, it exhibited this problem. After talking to Dell Support, they recommended a system board replacement. The laptop was sent in and the board was replaced. When I got it back and tried to start it for the first time, it did the same thing. I then pressed the Latitude "ON" button, and the laptop started.
Now it is doing the same thing, and I find it hard to believe that another system board is bad. I am suspicious about this "ON" feature, that maybe the laptop is "stuck" or something trying to get into the "ON" mode. Or maybe it is just trying to get into "ON" mode.
I am not sure what the "ON" feature does, but I have noticed a few other posts on the internet of users having the exact same problem. Again--I find it hard to believe a second system board could be bad.
