Oct 30, 2009I currently have a 1645 on order and assuming I ever get it, I want to run Linux as the primary OS.
I would like to run vmware workstation with windows as a client. The reason behind this is that I primarily use the computer for work and need linux, but I need windows for a few things.
I understand that these days Dell simply ships a re-install disk if that much. I need a full version of windows to setup vmware. Does anyone know if the dell key can be used with a full version disk to do an install .....

Jun 30, 2009Ever since I setup a Mac for a friend of mine, I've been very interested in the Mac and Mac OS X. It's fairly easy to learn and runs very well. Of course, I've been dealing with Windows for over 15 years, dating back to Windows 3.1. I also work with Windows 99% of the time since I mainly work on PCs as a PC tech.
Of course, Windows will run on a Mac using Boot Camp, but it seems like there's a whole variety of glitches when running Windows on a Mac using Boot Camp. Thus, I come up with the following question: which version of Windows runs best under Boot Camp? XP? 32 or 64-bit Vista? 32 or 64-bit Windows 7 RC? Do I need to wait for Snow Leopard to come out with better Boot Camp drivers? Do I even need to wait for Windows 7 to come out?
I am seriously looking at getting a 13" MacBook Pro and will most likely run some version of Windows on it using Boot Camp. Also, depending on the version, what amount of RAM is needed? I know that if you have 4GB or more RAM, you might as well run 64-bit Windows 7. Other than that, I'll probably run mostly Mac OS X on the MacBook Pro, but having some version of Windows on the MacBook Pro running under BootCamp would come in handy. Not sure if I'll do Parallels or Fusion.

Dell Inspiron 7720 :: Webcam Doesn't Work In Windows 8
Mar 3, 2013When I turn my Dell Inspiron 7720 on, integrated webcam often does not work. Camera app in Windows 8 shows "there's a problem with a camera", other apps also show error messages or just a black screen.
After several resets the camera may start to work properly till the next reset. The camera is always shown in the Device Manager without errors and in the USBView I see that at least USB descriptors are correct. Moreover, after several disable/enable cycles in device manager the camera may start to work.
I've created two HDD partitions and installed Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro (both from original ISO files downloaded from MSDN). On clear Win 8 the camera shows the same problem, but on Win 7 it works properly.
There is no camera driver for Inspiron 7720 on the Dell web-site, thus I've used standard Microsoft driver on both Win 7 and Win 8.
I'm still not sure is it a hardware problem, because it is reproduced only with Windows 8. The computer was initially sold with Ubuntu, but Windows 8 is in the list of supported OS.
Camera IDs are: VID = 0C45 (Sonix), PID = 648D, REV = 2206.

Mar 28, 2013I got Inspiron 15R 5520 with Windows 8 and after I installed this OS my webcam doesn't work properly anymore.Well, actually it's work but sometimes. Â But almost all the time Skype telling me that I should close all the programs that may use the webcam, but I haven't any other apps that uses webcam, Is there some additional drivers or application I should install? Â BTW it worked properly on Windows 7. And it IS working on Ubuntu so I presume that's a software issue.

Nov 17, 2008Does anyone have any idea when or if Dell will be releasing the XPS laptop with the Centrino 2 chip or if they will be releasing a new XPS laptop design all together as the current design has been around for well over a year now?
After hunting around for a solid performing laptop for home and office work for a month or 2 now, I have decided that the Dell XPS is probably the best machine I have looked at. It sounds to be well built, perform great, and has a premium warranty to back it up.
The only negative things I have heard about it is the hard drive is loud and the slot loading drive is also loud, does anyone know if these issues have been resolved and updated in the last few months?
So I go to buy the laptop and realise they don’t have the new Centrino 2 chip! I assumed they would, however chip they only offer the Core Duo chip. I thought Dell was all about consumer customisation and they were able to get new technologies to the market faster because of their direct selling model? So why don’t they have the new Centrino 2 chips?
I want to buy the 15” XPS, but don’t think I can part with the best part of $2000 AUD without the machine having this latest chip. Even the new Sony’s now have the new Centrino 2 chip and they sell for around the same price for this XPS.

Dell Latitude E5510 :: Booting Into Windows 7 X64 Doesn't Work Anymore
Jan 22, 2013tried to upgrade my Latitude E5510 from 2x2Gb (factury Samsung) to 2x4Gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9. BIOS updated to Rev. A13, latest. Memory is recognized as 8Gb. But booting into Windows7 X64 doesn't work anymore. If I boot from a Lubuntu CD (x86) it runs, naturally only with approx. 4Gb since this is a x86 OS-version. Windows 7 X64 just reboots. If I use Save Mode a reboot occurs when the loading of "ClassPnP.sys" starts. When I put in the old 2x2Gb everything works perfectly. Can't even get into Windows Setup from a clean DVD.
