Dell XPS L502X :: Games Freezing And Stuttering Audio

Mar 19, 2013

I've been having a lot of issues with my Dell XPS L502X lately. A few months back my laptop started freezing after a few minutes of playing Skyrim, with the audio stuttering/looping on the last noise. I struggled with various fixes I found on the internet specifically intended for either Skyrim or the Dell XPS L502X. None of the "fixes" I tried (they're too many to list and I can't recall all of them) worked. As time passed, a few other games (all of them newer titles) proceeded

Since my laptop often became hot enough. So I contacted Dell support, and they sent an onsite technician to replace my motherboard (along with the built-in 2GB Nvidia GT540M GPU, and the cooling fan. I also looked into doing a factory restore on my laptop.Once the motherboard etc was replaced I proceeded to install the latest drivers for my GPU, as well as updating the BIOS. Not only did the replaced motherboard and fan not work, but now even more games, some of them older games...

Dell XPS 15 L502x :: Freezing When Playing Games On Any Graphics Settings

Dec 3, 2012

I seem to be experiencing a common issue with the L502X Dell computer, in which it freezes when playing games on any graphics settings. My computer freezes and a loud buzzing noise happens and the last playing noise is looped, and the only way to stop the noise is through a hard reset. I'm pretty sure that the motherboard is the problem as many others on the forum have had almost identical problems which were solved with a motherboard replacement. I have updated all my drivers/BIOS and even done a complete system reformat, but the freezing still occurs.

I have even had my laptop on a cooling pad to try and minimize the heat it produces but the parts have still failed.

Dell XPS L502x :: Freezing And Crashing When Playing Video Games?

Dec 29, 2012

I bought my laptop around a year and a half ago, I've been trying to fix this problem for months now. While playing pretty much all video games, whether through Steam, CD or through downloading, at random times while playing my computer will freeze, the sound will start to bug out and there is nothing I can do but manually shut down my computer. My warranty has expired and I am not sure what to do. I've done some reading about under-clocking my CPU and I have no interest in doing that. I keep my drivers and everything up to date so I'm pretty damn sure that this is not a software problem. I want to avoid replacing my motherboard and I will only do so if there is no other option. I am thinking of replacing my hard drive with an SSD

When I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid, I'm finding that when I come back to it there will be a BSOD with the message DPC Watchdog Violation showing. I've also noticed that sometimes the laptop will become frozen on going to sleep or hibernating. The only way to get it to completely shut down it by holding the power button down.

I've updated to the latest bios and drivers on the Dell Drivers Support site and am at my wits end now.

Dell :: E1705, Freezing In Games After About 20 Seconds

Dec 28, 2009

I was playing a game of borderlands online and its started off running fine and then after about 20 seconds started lagging badly and then froze.

I assumed it was some kind of network connection problem considering i was playing the game fine a few days earlier. Well i forgot about it for a few days.

I just downloaded the battleswarm beta and was playing it and noticed it did the exact same thing, ran fine for about 20-30 seconds started lagging badly then just froze. I went back and tried borderlands in single player to confirm the problem and it also did the same thing.

Dell XPS 17 L702x :: FPS Drops Screen Freezing Crackling Audio

Apr 22, 2012

I just purchased a Dell XPS 17. The problem while playing video game is, that randomly the sound starts crackling for 1 or 2 seconds and the screen freezes with it, or the FPS drops down to 5 or lower.

I thought it might be problems with the fan on the laptop, or the AC adapter doesn't give energy for the laptop so it chokes down? It mostly happens, when the laptop gets pretty hot.

Also I tried to contact the Dell customer service, but it says i purchased the Laptop in the United Kingdom, which I didn't. I used the Dell Customer service from the U.S. and used the chat without any problems. When i try to E-mail them, it gives me an error, that it cannot read my system components (I don't remember exactly what it said, might be something else, but it was an error).

Dell :: Mini 9 Stuttering

Apr 12, 2009

I got a 4gb Mini 9 with Ubuntu and love the thing to death, but right from the beginning it would always stutter when I was on the internet. It happened a lot more when I was looking at flash things (games, youtube, ect), but even when I was scrolling through a forum it would just stop... and then pick up again but scroll all the way down if I was scrolling (it would catch up).

Maybe it's the RAM since ojly had 512mb. So I ordered 2gb (which i wanted anyway), but this didn't help at all.

Then I though, hmm, maybe it's Ubuntu (Ive heard that Adobe has bad Linux support) so I installed XP and honestly I like it more than Ubuntu, but anyway... yeah it's still stuttering, although maybe less Ican't really tell though.

Is this just something I have to live with? Are all of yours doing this? Or is this a bad SSD or maybe a faulty laptop in general?

I really want to get this fixed as I LOVE the thing so much and just want to have this fixed.

Note: This is only happening with a browser open as far as I can tell. I ran Eclipse and was coding for a over 15 hours since I got it and it didn't stutter once when I was doing this. This is both when I am wired at school, using the school's wireless, or at home using our internet (wired and wireless)

Dell :: Mini 9 Stuttering On YouTube/IE

Nov 19, 2008

I bought the Mini 9 with only 512MB of RAM because Dell wanted $25 for 1GB, which is the price of 2GB. I'm just waiting for prices to drop/rebates before ordering 2GB.

I am running the bloatware infested stock software and I noticed stuttering when playing YouTube videos via IE. IE takes up 50%-70% of CPU time for some odd reason. I fired up my Dimension and my Studio 15 only to find at MOST 20% CPU time using either IE or FireFox.

Does anyone else have the same problem? What did you do to fix it? I plan to do a clean install of XP SP-3 once I get a IDE/USB adapter to run an optical drive

Dell :: DVD Stuttering On SXPS 1647

Apr 2, 2010

I seem to be having an issue with playing DVDs on my SXPS 1647. I have the Blu-ray combo drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA10N, with firmware A109).

Every few minutes you can hear and feel the drive start clicking. When this happens, the playback starts stuttering for a few seconds. This doesn't seem to be an issue when playing Blu-rays.

The drive still clicks every few minutes, but the playback doesn't stutter. Is this normal that the drive should be clicking every few minutes? I checked to see if there was a newer firmware version, but the latest version on Dell's site was A108.

Dell :: Studio 1555 Stuttering In Win7 64-bit- Can't Narrow It Down

Jan 28, 2010

The hardware/software specs on this laptop are: ...

It is my wife's computer that I bought for her for Xmas. She uses it like any girl would, using Firefox for surfing Facebook, plays that Farm game on the Facebook (based on Flash I believe?), plays the Sims 3 on it, iTunes to her iPhone, and some light photo stuff.

She is claiming that it has some stuttering (from the sounds of it less than 1 second of stutter) every now and then when she is doing anything on it, internet, Flash based games, Sims 3. She said it does occasionally freeze completely and she has to restart it during the Flash game and Sims 3, I don't think it has done this since I updated it to the latest BIOS last week though, time will tell I think.

I just can't narrow down what the problem is though. All of her drivers are completely up to date from Dell's website, Windows 7 Home is fully updated (it autoupdates daily) from Microsoft.
I haven't seen widespread complaints about the Studio 1555 having stuttering/freezing issues so I'm having a hard time narrowing down a specific hardware component within the computer. If I were to guess the two biggest culprits would be either the 500gb 7200rpm HD or the Radeon 4570.

Does anyone else have this stuttering/freezing problem or have seen common complaints about this?

Dell :: 1340 W/ N210 Stuttering In World Of Warcraft

Nov 16, 2009

I was playing WoW and every few minutes it would lock up, and the sound would stutter/repeat really fast, then it would resume working fine. The FPS would never dip low, except when the whole thing would hang/lock up with the sound stuttering.

I did a search and I didn't really find any relevant information that seemed to relate. I have the latest driver from Dell, the one released in October 09. Is there a newer driver, or am I looking at the wrong component as the culprit?

Thanks for any info. She doesn't seem to care but its going to bug me, especially as this is a brand new laptop.

On another note, her 'E' key squeaks. Does anyone know if these keys can be popped off without causing damage? I'm assuming the answer is no, but I'm not about to let a Dell tech take her entire laptop apart so that he can swap the keyboard out and put it back together poorly.

Sony :: VAIO PCG VGN-AX580G Stuttering

Aug 7, 2009

My laptop has some kind of weird stuttering problem that is kind of hard to explain. The video will stop, sometimes for a split second or so, and the sound will continue and then the video plays at increased speed until it catches up to the sound. Sometimes it will do this consistently after each minute or so a couple of times or it might actually play fine for a long while before it will do it again. It doesn't just do this in AVI files either. Sometimes it will do it while I am playing games. It also depends on the game too. For instance, it will sometimes do it in Doom 3 and Crysis, but does not do it in other games at all like Quake 3 Arena. I am unable to pinpoint this problem as I have tried many, many different things in the process of trying to troubleshoot this issue. Even my web browser will have short momentary pauses, although seldom, while scrolling even after the web page had LONG been finished loading.

What I have tried:

Many different video drivers

Different media players for the avi files (WMP9, WMP11, Media Player Classic, PowerDVD)

Used different sound cards (Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, USB Turtle Beach Roadie)

Different Codecs for avi files (FFDShow, DivX)

Different OS (XP Pro, Vista Ultimate).......................

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X220 Stuttering System - Screen Automatically Dims Itself While Starting Windows

Feb 3, 2011

My x220 is driving me crazy these days. Some days ago I experienced very strange behavior of my system. I was just using the notebook as always as it started to stutter.

With stuttering I mean everything is working for 1-2 seconds then is stuck for 1-2 seconds, working, stuck, working so on so forth.

With everything I mean the mouse movement, hard disk load, graphics movement, audio, everything simultaneously. This problem does show up not only if Windows is up but also when Windows is booting or if I start a live linux distribution.

I also noticed that sometimes when I'm moving around the ultranav trackpoint the cursor jumps to one display edge and opens a context window as if I had pressed the right mouse button.

What I did so far:

Reboot my system several times.
Checked Task-Manager: nothing out of the ordinary
Reset BIOS to factory settings
Updated everything to newest stuff
Started a live Linux distribution instead of Windows 7
Decrypted my system (TrueCrypt)
Deactivated Power Management/SpeedStep via BIOS settings
Switched to Single-Core processing via BIOS settings
Swapping RAM from 2x8GB CORSAIR to 2x4GB KINGSTON
Swapped SSD with original HDD
Try booting windows in safe mode

I'm almost at a point to say this can't be a software issue and that it is something mainboard/CPU/GPU related, but I want to be certain before contacting the support.

Another thing I noticed: The stuttering starts exactly when the windows logo shows up and the screen automatically dimmes itself while starting windows. Something is happening in that moment. I may need to add that I did not install anything prior to the current situation. That does support the hardware relation.

Dell XPS L502X :: Battery Not Charging

Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation.Connect a Dell 130W AC adapter or higher.I've never used the battery badly. I always charge it to a 100% and then disconnect the charger and use the charge down to 7% until it asks me to plug in the charger. I keep disconnecting and reconnecting the charger or trying switching on and off the switch until it starts detecting my charger. I updated my bios to the latest version but nothing works. Dell XPS L502X :: Necessary To Close Bad Sectors?

Mar 20, 2013

We had problems with our laptop XPS 15 (L502X). It froze often, we were unable to switch it off properly, etc. In the shop they told me McAfee caused the problem, so they uninstalled it. Then they started to check the harddrive, after 20% they found already 7 bad sectors. Now they suggest to ´close´ these bad sectors. But we´re using the laptop and it seems to work well. Do you recommend having the bad sectors repaired or closed or should we change the hard drive completely? Can the bad sectors do any harm?

Dell XPS L502X :: Unbearable Fan Noise

Apr 2, 2013

I have an XPS L502X laptop.A few months ago, probably just one month after the expiry of the warranty, the fan started to make an unbearable noise. This constant on/off of the fan starts even if I just open Firefox, Windows Media Player, Office or any other software. There's no need to play games for hours. Just to clarify: the fan starts even if the laptop is completely cold and I have just turned it on.

I tried everything: I updated the BIOS drivers, I updated the NVIDIA drivers, I modified the properties of the fan control following the suggestions of some users. In short, I did everything I found on the previous threads but nothing worked!

Do I have to contact the support and plan a sostitution of the fan? I mean, I read tens of post like mine, is that possible that a definitive solution has not been found yet?

Dell XPS L502X :: USB Ports Do Not Seem To Work

Apr 22, 2013

So a few weeks back, one of the two usb ports on my DELL XPS L502X fell backwards inside the socket, making it unreachable. That wasn't a big issue since I still had one perfectly fine usb port. This morning, when i tried using my wireless mouse (that had its receiver inside the 1 working port), it din't work. I replaced the cells but it still did not work. I put in another usb stick and the computer wouldn't recognize it. It acted as if there was nothing there at all.

When I check my USB port statuses from the device manager, it shows that both the hubs are working. I cannot understand what is going on. The port doesn't have any visible damage, and it looks perfectly normal but doesn't work.
