Dell XPS M1530 :: No Longer Powers On

Jan 29, 2015

Everything was fine, then when I would plug in a USB peripheral into a USB port, it shuts down. I tried it several times and now the laptop will not turn on at all. I have searched on google but there is not an issue like mine. Unlike others I do not even get lights or any hard drive noises. Is the motherboard fried?

Dell :: E1705: Battery No Longer Powers My Laptop (NOT Bad Battery)

Dec 1, 2009

Last night I was using my E1705 running on battery when the thing just suddenly zapped off. I had recently glanced at the battery meter which was 75% full. I pressed the button on the actual battery which shows 3 of 5 lights on the charge meter.

The battery itself is only 1 month old and has been performing flawlessly. I just thought it was something random so I plugged the machine in and it started up.

I didn't think anything else of it till today when I went to move my laptop, removed the power cord, and the laptop turned off. I checked the physical battery meter which still reads 3 of 5 lights .....

dell is no longer offering the Nvidia 8600m gt, they only offering only the 8400 in this system,

is this just coincidence? they gonna finaly take out the m1530 and m1330 systems? and if we, happy customers of the m1530, get in some trouble with this graphics card, they probably gonna replace with a Studio XPS 16? of similar specs? cause they wont have 8600m for replacement

Dell :: M1330 Powers On For A Second Then Just Dies, Any Ideas?

If you press the power button, you can hear the hard drive starting to spin up, then it acts as if the power was just cut from it and it dies.

I am assuming something on the motherboard is just broken, just figured I would ask to see if anyone else has any other ideas.

Dell Inspiron 3520 :: Powers Off With Screen Tilt

Nov 17, 2014

I am operating a Dell Inspiron 3520 and have been having trouble with the machine powering down and becoming unresponsive with screen tilt (not closure). The computer appears to be functioning normally until I tilt the screen forward, at which time the screen goes black and all lights indicating power turn off, as if the machine has powered down. I cannot make the machine power on again for some time until I have taken the battery out, put it back, and pressed the power button several times. This problem has occurred more frequently in recent days and I currently cannot turn the machine on to troubleshoot.

My fear is a dysfunction in the sleep trigger within the screen/lid closure system.

Dell Latitude D630 :: Powers But Will Not Charge The Battery

Jan 23, 2013

Dell Latitude D630.... I bought a new battery about 2 months back (had the old one for a good 6 years before it finally bit the dust) and I've had no problems with it.  The test button still shows all 5 bright and green.  I recently replaced my adapter because it was getting old (almost 3 years) and it stopped charging since part of it's wires were frayed.  The new adapter is not charging my computer.

It's Dell made so it shouldn't have a problem with the no-charge chip put in and it's New, not refurbished.  I've tried different outlets, restarting computer, updating BIOS, checking battery, and lots of fun stuff in between.

I'm at a loss of what to do because without it charging it, I may as well have just stuck to my old one and saved the money.  I'd rather have this issue fixed than never use my battery ever.

Acer :: 1350 Powers Up But Won't Boot (x 2)

Oct 20, 2009

a friend of mine gave me their Acer 1350 laptop to repair - the fault was that the screen suddenly went blank, even though the power goes on and the fan turns. When I first looked at it, the screen came on, it started to boot into Windows (XP Home), it got past the loading screen (with the horizontal scrolling thingies) and then the screen went blank, and ever since I've never been able to get the screen to come on.

I tested it and couldn't hear the hard drive seeking, so I guessed that the mainboard or CPU had failed. I took it apart (using a service manual as a guide) to see if there was anything I could do to fix it, I removed the CPU and reseated it, used new thermal paste and put it all back together, but it still had the same problem. I had made sure that the screen cables were connected back correctly, as per the service manual instructions.

Also, the power light didn't come on, even though the CPU fan comes on when you press the power button (for a few seconds), and then after leaving it on for a few minutes the fan runs again for a few seconds, so something is working!

Anyway, I bought a second hand Acer 1350 off Ebay for £70, which was running fine, just didn't have the hard drive. As soon as I got it, I put the hard drive from my friend's Acer into the new laptop, and it booted up Windows fine, everything ran perfectly. Problem solved. Or so I thought.

After turning it off, I tried to turn it back on. Result - it now has exactly the same problem as the first laptop! When you press the power button, the fan goes on for a few seconds, but the screen remains blank. The hard drive doesn't seek.

I've also tried it without the hard drive, hoping that maybe that was something to do with it, but it makes no difference, the screen is still blank, so I can't even look at the BIOS.

I have been racking my brains over this - what could possibly have caused this problem in both laptops? Some kind of virus on the hard drive, which stops the laptop from even showing me the boot screen? The screen stays off no matter what I do. The power light doesn't come on, even though the fan has started turning, and the hard drive is running (but not seeking).

Dell Studio 1555 :: Powers On But No Display - Passed LCD BIST Test

Jan 27, 2015

I bought my Studio 1555 laptop about 4 years ago. Recently it has been showing issues of automatic restarts and no booting. Initially the laptop was overheating and fan was running at very high speeds, so I figured it was a cooling issue - so cleaned up the area near the fan and put everything back in carefully. So now that problem is solved, but NO display issue still remains. The laptop power light switches ON, but I don't see any display in the monitor - so I ran the LCD BIST test - and turns out the LCD works just fine. I identified that the items below could be the issues. What I can do to rectify this issue. The system is out of warranty.

1. Connect to an external monitor - but this test would be redundant because we already know that the display is fine with the LCD BIST test.

2. Replace the video card or memory module

3. Replace the motherboard.

I read somewhere that taking out the BIOS battery and putting it back again solved the issue - but I can't understand the reason behind it.

Sony :: SZ6 Abruptly Powers Off. Nvidia 8400M GS

Aug 26, 2009

I had assumed, but I want to make sure that my SZ6's problem is due to the Nvidia temp defect thing everyone's talking about.

Basically my computer is always very hot. Just downloaded SpeedFan and the GPU and both Cores are 78C and i've just been surfing the web for a few hours.

The problem happens when I play games (like Civ4 or Half-life 2) for a few hours or sometimes less if its a hot day. The laptop will abruptly power off as if I pulled the battery and power cord out.

When I reboot, I get that error message that says Windows did not shut down properly, do you want to reboot normally or in safe mode

Acer :: Extensa 4230 - Laptop Powers On No Screen, No Processing

Aug 28, 2009

I don't know what happened, but my laptop's not working.

I was using my laptop as a desktop computer (no battery) when I accidentally switched the switch off. After switching it on, I tried to turn on my laptop and the first thing I noticed was the blank screen. Then the power turned off, and then turned on again. The fan is working, but nothing else is. I don't hear or notice any processing, so I'm pretty sure nothing's working right except for the fan and the lights indicating that it's on.

I tried to reset the laptop by disconnecting it from power and then turning it back on after 30 seconds - but no luck.

I have an Extensa 4230 by the way.

Lenovo E320 11e E/Edge :: Unexpectedly Powers Off When Changing Its Position?

Apr 17, 2012

My ThinkPad Edge E320 isn't but a few months old, but I have been noticing a problem with it. I want to know if others are facing similar problems and if there is any solution for it.

The laptop powers off completely when I move it. But I have noticed that it does not happen if I am REALLY careful with it, and move it holding the two sides.

There seems to be a 'soft-spot' on the underside of the laptop that causes it to switch off immediately when it's pressured. And moving the laptop holding it at the bottom causes exactly that.

Acer :: Aspire 9500 Powers Off (possibly Overheats) Before Windows Loads

Mar 28, 2009

Acer Aspire 9504.

First of all it runs in Windows completely rock solid. I have ran stress utilities for over 24 hours, and the system is completely stable.

My problem is that it is very unstable before windows loads. For example, if I simply leave it in the BIOS setup for 5 minutes the computer will just power off. It is also quite hot underneath. This occurs also if I boot from DOS (or other e.g. XP recovery disk) boot disk to run some utilities - the system will run for 5 minutes or so, and then just power off. The time that I get before it powers off decreases if I immediately switch it on again, suggesting an overheating issue. I did not have this problem when I first got the laptop 3 years ago.

This problem is really annoying as I want to run some low-level utilities to repartition my hard disk and also possibly reinstall windows, but this problem is preventing that.

Any ideas? Perhaps some strange software that I installed? ACPI config? Memory issue? BIOS issue? Computer is hot in several areas under where the CPU / TV tuner / graphics / memory are located .

My system spec:
- Pentium M 760 2GHz
- Ati X700 256MB graphics
- 2GB crucial RAM (2 x 1 GB DDR2 533 CL4) (upgraded from 1GB over a year ago and fully tested to be working)
- Newest BIOS from Acer installed

From system information:

Version5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600

Lenovo Y510p P/Y/Z Series :: New IdeaPad Crashes / Completely Powers Down When Gaming?

Apr 8, 2014

I've had the laptop since last Friday. I've updated drivers and have been installing a few games on the device.

I've been installing a ton of games the past two days while I'm at school (great download speeds from steam and origin) and have been having issues when I try to run said games.

The laptop has a SLI setup with the GT 755M. I've noticed that when I've tried to game lately on the laptop that I've had pretty poor luck. Games seem to crash with frequency, with only a few different times that I thought had narrowed down to SLI being enabled or Anti-Aliasing, but after it crashing a few minutes ago not long after getting into a Team Fortress 2 server, I now don't think that is the case.

What might cause this? I have the battery removed at the present since it's Nearly charged and seems pointless for me to leave it in while I'm running off the 170W adaptor. Could this be an issue where the adaptor doesn't supply enough power and needs to draw additional power?

I don't feel that heat or anything else like that could be the cause because there's no warming and the system powers back up just fine. I'm going to re-attempt to play a few games that crashed immediately (Battlefield 3) and see if this changes anything. I love the laptop otherwise and really hope that this isn't and indicator of a more serious issues.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: Quad Core W520 (with Intel AMT) Powers Off When Attempting To Put It In Sleep Mode

Oct 14, 2014

I have a quad core Lenovo W520 (i7-2820QM) equipped with Intel AMT. I have all RAM slots populated (original 2GB in each that came with the machine). I have updated to the latest BIOS (1.42 at the time of writing) and latest Intel Management Engine Firmware 7.1 (7.1.85.1216 at the time of writing). The machine has Crucial 256GB X100 SSD installed in the main compartment and a regular HDD in UltraBay.

The computer acts normally in sleep mode and restart sequence only when Intel AMT states that "ME is in recovery state..." during boot.

When it looks like AMT is happy problems begin. The problem is that when I'm trying to put the computer to sleep it goes all the way until the end per normal procedure and then suddenly decides to power itself off! Obviously Windows doesn't like this and displays recovery suggestions after starting the laptop again. This happens when connected to AC and also when disconnected from it. Also, when computer reboots it turns off all power (i.e. the display along with backlight, indicator LEDs turn off and fans spin down for a sec) inbetween and automatically starts up after that.

I've tested this on Windows 7 and openSUSE 13.1 (which I had lying nearby) and same behavior happens on both OSes. On Windows, all the latest drivers and updates were installed. So I don't think this is driver nor OS dependent - rather firmware/hardware related problem.

What is funny, it doesn't matter whether Intel AMT is activated in BIOS or not. What matters is whether the Management Engine is in some kind of recovery state or not. When it's not, computer starts acting crazy as stated above and behaviour is repeatable. Intel AMT itself seems to work however. Changing the power policy in Intel ME configuration doesn't work for sleep issue.

Some things I've also tried doing:
* Replace CMOS battery (measured its voltage before putting it in, of course) with a new one - no effect
* Tried two different brands of SSDs (OCZ Vertex 3 and Crucial X100) - no effect
* Tried both legacy and UEFI modes - no effect
* Scanned RAM for memory errors - no effect

Could Lenovo try to repeat this issue and possibly do something about this?
