View 3 Repliesok so i hv this problem with my dell xps m1330 that it wont charge the battery. and when i turn the laptop on, it gives me message that tht AC adapter can not be recognized, and that the battery may not charge.
i tried reinstalling windows but it still didnt help :S. so i called Dell technical support and talked to this guy for 40 mins, he told me a bunch of stuff , like reseting stuff in BIOS etc. but it didnt work. so at the end he just said to send the laptop for repair.
Even though i still have the manufacturing warranty, but i CANT send my laptop in for repair, bc i really NEED it for my university. And also he wont agree to send me a replacement laptop or anything.
so i really dont know what to do. i know there are alot of experts here, who are way better than dell technical support team. so does any one has an easy way out for this problem
just did a fresh installation of Windows XP and all the drivers, but under the device manager, the ICH8 USB controller is not recognized, so I can't use any USB device attached to the computer.

I have a 9400 and i was planning on putting a fx-2500 vid card in tonight... Whats wrong here..?
Recently ran into an issue with the AC adapter not being recognized despite being the original cord and no longer charging the battery. No issues with light on cord flickering or turning off. Purchased a new power cord anyways but problem persists. BIOS shows unknown type for Ac adapter even after BIOS update. Diagnostics scan doesn't detect any problems. URL....
why this occurs and if there is a workaround or repair to re-enable the charging? It appears the laptop is just disabling the charging circuit despite being provided the correct power.
I have a new Studio 15 with firewire port. I just purchased a new camcorder to transfer DV tapes to DVD.
I got the camera specifically because it was supported by vista. But the laptop doesnt recognize the camera. Ive done a good bit of research and it seems to be a vista problem.
Ive tried all the solutions i could find on the net. Even modifying the registry per the instruction from microsoft support .....
I have a DELL XPS 1530 Laptop, a few days back my 90W AC adapter stopped working and beeped continuously and the green light also didnt turn on. I gave the adaptor to a local electronic shop to get it repaired .
After getting it repaired I plugged it to the laptop and it charged normally upto 48% and after that the battery did not charge. Then on reboot a message is being display that "
The Adapter wattage is not recognised please connect a 65W DELL adaptor"
I have this "problem" (is not actually a problem but I would like to know what the problem is) I have a usb wireless adapter since my laptop didn't come with a wireless card built in.
Its working fine but there is something that bothers me, I have 3 usb ports and one of them doesn't recognize my usb wireless adapter!
I don't have problems with the other two, I just plug it in and the system connects to the internet. Its just one usb port that does not recognize it.
After installing XP media center on my inspiron 1520 i am unable to get it to recognize usb devices. I looked in the device manger at the drivers and it is missing some for the usb. I am not sure which one to download. I tried installing some and they did not work. I went to dell's site and did not find anything.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI put a brand new seagate 160GB SATA hard drive in my E1705. Before doing anything, the F2 bios screen displayed 160GB, but after installing windows vista ultimate, it is shown as 78GB in disk management, F2 bios screen, and everywhere else. This is a 7200rpm drive. Is there any hardware limit I wasn't aware of? What should I do regain the other 82GB?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have three usb ports, and none of them seem to be working. Although the devices work on my roommate's laptop, they are not recognized on mine. When I plug my flashdrive into hers, it lights up, but that doesn't happen on mine. I recently reset my computer to factory settings to try and fix other issues including the problem with the usb ports, but the usb devices are still not recognized.
I recently sent in my laptop due to problems of it not being able to turn on, and my battery and a/c adapter were replaced. I was quite happy. However, I do not want to send it back in even though it is under warranty. Since I am a college student, I really need my laptop. If nothing works, I'll send it back in over winter break so I'm not without a laptop during my studies.
My touchscreen is also not working, so how to fix that, here is my other post: [URL] ...
recently I bought MS Industrial wifi mice. When I plug adapter to usb port on my Inspiron 5520 it says "Device not recognized" . Then I put it to another port ( I have 4) it says the same message. I plugged it to first port again, and it works.
When I put laptop to sleep or when I shut it down and when I wake/turn it on my mice doesn't work . I plug adapter out, and plug in again, the same message .... "device not recognized"
I have a inspiron 15 laptop and keep getting a message "USB not recognized. The USB device attached to this device has stopped working or windows doesn't recognized.." thing is there isn't a device attached to the computer when I get these messages.I've updated the BIOS, driver updates etc and still get the message.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is plugged in and not charging. I have run a bios and it says that the battery is a non dell battery (even though i have not tampered with the computer at all). I have only had the computer for 5 months. If the battery failed after 2 years yeah that might be acceptable but only 5 months?!?!?! I now cannot use it without plugging it in.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my 1640 and stuck in my G.Skill (who puts a "." in their name?) booted up and the BIOS says no HDD installed. I removed and reinstalled the drive, no love. Then I just removed all the screws, letting it hang, and it recognizes the drive. Reinstalled with screws, no love. Let it hang again, it recognizes it. At this point I suspect the housing is warping it causing problems, but even with a single screw very loose, it doesn't recognize the drive as being installed.
So I either suspect warping or some kind of electrical short, and based on the "loose screw" test mentioned above, probably electrical short. The original drive, a Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200RPM worked fine. Also, the G.Skill worked fine, all fastened in, in my Macbook.
Soooo...any ideas? I'm planning on trying some kind of insulated mount, but I'm not sure what I need to do that. Nylon screws? Maybe Fry's has some.
Disclaimer: I know the 1640 has an option for a sweet Samsung 256GB SSD now for cheaper than the G.Skill, but it wasn't an option when I ordered.
I have the Inspiron 1525 which I upgraded to 2GB of ram (not much but runs smoother then the original 1GB I had). As for the 1 problem formatting will not fix it's the AC Adapter which it will not recognize.
It's the original that it came with aand it runs with the battery pulled but will not Recognize the adapter and thus charge the battery. Will that problem get fixed if I ever get it formatted? .....
Hoperfully somebody can help me out, I am completely out of ideas.
I have an E1705 and am running Vista Home Premium. There are two issues and are most likely related.
1) My internal xD card reader keeps asking me to format a card even though nothing is inserted in there, and to be quite honest I can't even remember the last time I used an xD card.
I have tried uninstalling the device/driver and reinstalling using the most recent as well as even older drivers with no luck ....
I installed 2 - 1GB RAM chips into my 8600 but it only recognized 1 GB of RAM memory.
Anyone know how to fix the problem?
Wondering if anyone else is having this problem with Dell.
I bought an Inspiron 1500 14 months ago. Early on I noted that the adapter dell sent would sometimes slip out if the laptop was touched.
Then at 6 moths I started getting a message on power up -AC adapter wattage & type cannot be determined.- 2 weeks later the battery was drained and the system wouldn't recharge it .....
Simple...Installed Windows 7, everything was working fine...till today when the dvd drive isn't recognized by windows. Nothing in my computer..
I can insert/eject a disc only during the boot sequence.
We are having a serious problem with the battery that we replaced for one of the Dell laptops. The Laptop model is Dell Latitude `E5530. We were getting a message that the Battery has to be replaced and we bought this battery from one of the third party vendors.
It ran for 2 weeks and now it comes up with some weird messages. The laptop isn't detecting the battery at all. We had sent the battery back to the vendor but he says the battery works fine at their end.
I have a Dell 1545 Inspiron Computer with Vista Ultimate OS. Yesterday for the 2nd time, my mouse and printer won't work because I get the error message USB Device not recognized.
About 3 weeks ago I had the same problem and it self-corrected itself when the latest Windows Update apparently fixed it.
I know there is nothing truly wrong with the USB devices but am not sure what to do. If there is a particular driver for this as my backup DVD for this computer has lots of them listed. I am currently running a System Check but am not sure if that is going to work.
All of the sudden the battery stopped charging and the official dell AC Adapter, that shipped with the laptop, is listed as Unknown in the BIOS. I understand this happens because somewhere on the way the info from the pin that (for no good reason) identifies the AC adapter does not reach the charging circuit. This is supposed to be a safety mechanism (that no other manufacturer uses) that is obviously just an attack on off-brand chargers .The laptop is working fine (except for charging) as long as the AC adapter is connected.
What I did so far:
notice I'm out of warranty
try different power outlets
try different AC adapter
Check battery health (it's fine)
replace Power Jack
Voodoo
Just tried to use my SD reader on my D4300 which I have had almost 2 years. It was upgraded from Vista Business to Win 7. The SD Card reader is not recognized at all!I I rebooted to look at the config, and it is checked off in the configuration. I have gone back through the Dell drivers area and do not find anything specific for the SD reader....
How to make this SD Card reader work?
Dell D610, reinstalled Windows XP. Downloaded NSS from Utilities disk and the rest of the drivers from USB drive saved before re-install (C:Dell/Drivers)
The drivers are not being recognized by the computer after several restarts. Thsi my first reformatting of Disk. I would like determining what is causing the problem.
I have been using the same wireless mouse on this computer for three years. Suddenly it stopped working after a Windows update last night. Getting the following:USB Device Not Recongnized.
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. I have uninstalled USB drivers and let windows reinstall them, no change. I did a restore back two days, then windows wouldn't start. Occasionally stops in Dell start up screen and gives 4 beeps. Undid restore, back to same problem stated above.
Have recently purchased a new 14z. When I turn on the ultrabook, with no power cable plugged in - I get a message telling
me that the Battery is not recognized, and that I should press F1 to continue or F2 to go to the Setup screen. Pressing F1 boots
the ultrabook as normal. It seems a strange message to get. Ultrabook was purchased direct from Dell about 4 weeks ago, and
BIOS is A06 (latest).
Alright I am a long time user of Dell products, and have in the past had problems with them, but they have been easily fixable by either replacement parts or a quick look at a FAQ or messageboard for Info. My INSPIRON 1501 is not recognizing my battery. The battery is fine (checked it in my brothers computer), and I have checked other people's posts with the same problem and tried the fixes but nothing worked. I have tried to do the BIOS update (A16) that worked probperly but did not fix the problem.
While watching a movie I got a message telling me that my battery is not recognized. The battery is stuck at a 97% charge (or so the computer says) and the battery light is not light up (it flashes on sporadically but not consistant at all). The BIOS did fix the message at startup saying the battery isn't recognized but still if I remove the AC power cord or unplug the computer it powers right down and will not start-up unless plugged in.
I recently had to realize that the touchpad is not recognized when booting in tablet mode.
As I noticed the keyboard and touchpad are disabled when the screen is turned around or just tilted out of the latching, is there a way to enable them again - perhaps a BIOS setting or update?
I think it would be in advantage if keyboard and pad stay active when the screen is rotated e.g. if there is not much space to tilt the lid, then the screen-unit could be tilted in the frame for a better viewing angle.
