Dell :: Usb Wireless Adapter Not Recognized...
Sep 29, 2009
I have this "problem" (is not actually a problem but I would like to know what the problem is) I have a usb wireless adapter since my laptop didn't come with a wireless card built in.
Its working fine but there is something that bothers me, I have 3 usb ports and one of them doesn't recognize my usb wireless adapter!
I don't have problems with the other two, I just plug it in and the system connects to the internet. Its just one usb port that does not recognize it.

I have been able to install most all of the missing drivers after my new OS install.......
The only problem I'm having is the wireless adapter is not recognized in device manager. There is a "network controller" that has no driver. I have installed the broadcom driver from acer site, but it won't work.
When I press the wireless button, it will toggle between wlan enabled, and wlan disabled, but I can't figure it out

There is a recurring problem where the computer ceases to recognize the existence of the wireless adapter. It doesn't matter if the computer is running 8, or 8.1, nor if the computer is fully Updated. This seems to be a hardware problem or some sort of electrical short, not a driver problem. I have done a bit of research over the last four months or so (when the problem first started happening), and the problem I am experiencing is most likely caused by either a faulty card, or a card that is loose from its socket on the motherboard, and not by a driver/hardware discrepancy. The strange part is the intermittent nature of the computer's recognition of the device. Stranger still is that despite what appears to be a hardware problem, I have usually been able to fix it, either by:
Uninstalling then reinstalling the device's drivers,Restoring the computer to a previous point,Reformatting the computer using the built in Windows 8 feature, and/or Removing certain Windows Updates in reverse chronological order (until the integrated WiFi device is recognized).
Last night, the problem happened again. It was maybe the 4th or 5th time overall, and the 2nd time I was forced to "hard reformat" in an attempt to fix the problem. Until just a few minutes ago, when I partially deconstructed then reconstructed the device, the "hard reformat" method didn't fix the WiFi. After the "hard reformat" didn't work, Upon turning the computer back on, it recognized the wireless adapter, I connected to the network successfully, and here I am now, documenting what happened.
I essentially did nothing significant to the device, and now the wireless adapter is recognized. Why?
All that being said, I believe I have narrowed down the cause of the problem, at least in my case. I believe there is some sort of electrical short issue. The short is caused by one (or perhaps both) of the following:
Assuming the physical location of the wireless adapter is next to the location of the port for the AC adapter, I think the AC adapter, when moved or jiggled by a hand, somehow negatively interferes with the wireless adapter, causing it to fail.Shutting the lid of the computer, perhaps when combined with the above, and/or under other conditions (something having to do with power settings?, something having to do with the state of the network when the lid is shut?), causes the network adapter to fail.Something very similar used to happen on an old Dell notebook I had, as well as on a CR-48, towards the end of their lives. That is, in order for the internet to work, I had to have the AC adapter at certain angle when it was plugged into the computer. Otherwise the wireless connection would drop. It seems like there's a connection there (pun intended), but perhaps not?

ok so i hv this problem with my dell xps m1330 that it wont charge the battery. and when i turn the laptop on, it gives me message that tht AC adapter can not be recognized, and that the battery may not charge.
i tried reinstalling windows but it still didnt help :S. so i called Dell technical support and talked to this guy for 40 mins, he told me a bunch of stuff , like reseting stuff in BIOS etc. but it didnt work. so at the end he just said to send the laptop for repair.
Even though i still have the manufacturing warranty, but i CANT send my laptop in for repair, bc i really NEED it for my university. And also he wont agree to send me a replacement laptop or anything.
so i really dont know what to do. i know there are alot of experts here, who are way better than dell technical support team. so does any one has an easy way out for this problem

Recently ran into an issue with the AC adapter not being recognized despite being the original cord and no longer charging the battery. No issues with light on cord flickering or turning off. Purchased a new power cord anyways but problem persists. BIOS shows unknown type for Ac adapter even after BIOS update. Diagnostics scan doesn't detect any problems. URL....
why this occurs and if there is a workaround or repair to re-enable the charging? It appears the laptop is just disabling the charging circuit despite being provided the correct power.

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem with Dell.
I bought an Inspiron 1500 14 months ago. Early on I noted that the adapter dell sent would sometimes slip out if the laptop was touched.
Then at 6 moths I started getting a message on power up -AC adapter wattage & type cannot be determined.- 2 weeks later the battery was drained and the system wouldn't recharge it .....

All of the sudden the battery stopped charging and the official dell AC Adapter, that shipped with the laptop, is listed as Unknown in the BIOS. I understand this happens because somewhere on the way the info from the pin that (for no good reason) identifies the AC adapter does not reach the charging circuit. This is supposed to be a safety mechanism (that no other manufacturer uses) that is obviously just an attack on off-brand chargers .The laptop is working fine (except for charging) as long as the AC adapter is connected.
What I did so far:
notice I'm out of warranty
try different power outlets
try different AC adapter
Check battery health (it's fine)
replace Power Jack

I just got a W540 running Windows 7 x64 at work. I have an ExpressCard ethernet adapter (A Belkin f5u250), and I'm having trouble getting it working.
I used this card on a W510 running Windows XP for years with no issues. I can still plug it into that laptop and have it work just fine. However, when I plug it into the W540, nothing happens. Windows does nothing. It doesn't act like it's trying to identify hardware, go find drivers, or anything. Nothing shows up or changes in the device manager, either.
I've tried doing the "add legacy hardware" thing in device manager, but I've had no luck with that, either. If I do an autodetect, it doesn't find anything, and if I manually browse to the driver, it then brings me to a list of devices, and the list is empty.
Is there something special I need to do to enable the expresscard slot, or enable plug and play for it, or something?

I've got Dell Latitude C 640. I had to reinstall the operating system from recovery disks. All was smooth.
Now, when I'm trying to install a driver for the wireless adapter it asks me to remove the adapter first. I can't find it to remove it.

I have a M1530, with the Dell 1505 Wireless N card installed.
To say the least, it is probably the worst card I have ever seen, getting no more than 6Mb/s on internal transfers (basically wireless G speeds) even though connecting at 130Mb/s.
I have a Dlink Extreme N DIR-655 router and it is pretty good, so I know it isn't that.
Looking at PCMIA cards on the internet, I suddenly realized that there is no expansion port on this system (or I am just stupid and can't see it), so I have to go with an internal card.
Is there anything I should be looking for when getting the new card? Are they easy to install?

has a Dell Studio 15 (like mine) that came with a wireless G adapter but she wants to get an N router and wants to try a N wireless adapter also.
The Dell 1510 seems to be the cheapest but there are several listed, is this what she needs and are they the same?

Will it be a matter of removing a screw that holds down the card, disconnecting 2 small wires, reconnecting them and then installing software from a disc?

Hi. This is my first post and I am a self confessed novice, so I apologise if my question has been covered elsewhere (I tried a Search but couldn't see anything specific to my question).
I have a Dell XPS 1330, with a Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG adapter installed (as part of teh orginal build by Dell). The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.00GHz Level 6 Revision 3853.
I have recently upgraded my home Wireless Router to a Netgear WNDR 3700, which is Draft N and Dual Band. I would now like to upgrade the adapter in my XPS1330 to take advantage of the N draft and Dual Band router.
Is this possible? If so, what new wireless card would you recommend which will be compatable with 1330.

I'm sure there's an obvious answer to this, but I just did a clean install of my new 1647 and the wireless adapter seems to be misisng
(at least the enable button). I'm on the dell driver site, and I can't for the life of me choose which driver/application will reintegrate it.

I've had my Dell L701X for over two years now and I've had some trouble with the wireless adapter before, particularly within the last 6 months.
Recently, the wireless adapter has been disappearing from the device manager and I have had to resort to a wired connection. The adapter has been disappearing completely from the device manager and I am not sure why. I have tried reinstalling the Intel drivers for the wireless card but that hasn't solved the problem.
The components list for my laptop on the Dell website under components says I have the Intel WiFi Link 6200 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card. Also if I use the wireless hardware switch it seems to be turning the Bluetooth connection on and off in the network adapters.
Currently running Windows 8 but have also had the problem while running Windows 7.

I am trying to reinstall my Dell Inspiron N 5110 (after my wireless connection was disabled (I dont know how) and my efforts to reenable the wireless connection were useless). While I tried to install the drivers, the drivers suitable, as identified by dell software, was for ethernet and none of the wireless/bluetooth drivers where selected as suitable. When I go to the device manager I couldnt see any wireless adapters that need drivers.

I have a Compaq Presario F572US, and for some odd reason, my wireless adapter keeps disappearing! I reinstall the wireless adapter software, then I make sure the wireless switch is turned on and after a number of reboots, the wireless adapter will show up, for me to connect to a wireless network. Once I reboot, then the adapter just completely disappears! I go to device manager and I don't even see it in the network adapter section.
I scanned for virus and spyware and my system appears to be clean.

My laptop was able to access the internet via my wireless internet connection just fine until a few days ago when it completely stopped working. I can't even view the wireless adapter in my hardware profile anymore. I'm able to connect wired but not wirelessly. I've reinstalled access points, but it didn't work. Nothing has changed in my setup to cause this to stop working.
