Acer Aspire E1-571 :: Windows 8 Not Booting Unless Hit F12 And Select EFI Device Windows Boot Manager
Sep 30, 2014I have an acer laptop e1-571 with windows 8. the mb failed ordered a new one installed it. on boot now i get no bootable device. The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.

May 9, 2009I was on vista bootcamp and Loading a page on this site and listening to the music at the same time. My computer froze. I hard shut it down and restarted to my mac os x to set the fans to max. Now when i'm im booting to windows through bootcamp, I goes past the first blinking cursor at the top and before showing the cursor a second time, it stops on a black screen and continues booting up. It doesn't go past the black screen. I hard shut it down and went to parallels to try to boot it. It boots up fine on parallels! Now what happened? Is it something to do with my bootcamp manager? I don't want to re format my windows again.

May 26, 2009I want to dual boot the new Win 7 RC with the default Windows Vista OS already on the M1530.
My issues lie in not being able to make a 5th partition on the HDD for Win7 to go onto. Is there any way to keep my computer intact the it is and get Win7 on the HDD?
Before I deleted the Media Direct Partition but thats a horrible idea... just wondering if it would be possible without keeping another 2.5" HDD around just to have Win 7 sit on.

I'm entirely sure on the specs but I do know its Core 2 Duo, ATI Gfx card, 3gb ram, 25gb hdd, and the usual.
Basically the laptop powers on ok however during the booting up stage the laptop pretty much stops just before windows is supposed to load up where the screen is black with the mouse cursor available which can be moved however from then on it doesn't do anything.

Ubuntu is available as a "live" CD, which means that you can use it directly from the CD without installing it. But running an operating system from a CD is slow, to see what Ubuntu can do running at full speed, you need to install it to your hard disk.
The ideal situation would be to install Ubuntu on it's own separate hard disk, but most people don't have two hard drives in their computer, and most people are not prepared to give up Windows. Therefore they have to install Ubuntu along-side Windows on the same hard disk in a dual-boot configuration.
Configuring a dual-boot system involves partitioning your hard disk to make space for Ubuntu. When your computer first starts, it reads information on the first sector of the hard drive which tells it where to find the "boot loader". The boot loader is a file with information about the installed operating systems and how to start them.
The boot loader for Windows is a file named "boot.ini". The boot loader for a Linux system (like Ubuntu) is GRUB (Grand Unified Boot Loader). When you install Ubuntu in a dual-boot system, it redirects the system to use GRUB. When you first start your system, GRUB presents a list of options, including starting Ubuntu or starting Windows. So you'll still be able to use your Windows operating system.
To install Ubuntu, start it with the live CD. To use the live CD, your computer's BIOS must be configured to boot from the CD drive. It's probably already configured that way, but if not, when your computer first starts watch for a message telling you which key to press to access the BIOS setup. Most computers use the F2, F1, Esc, or Del key.........

Nov 11, 2012I have an interesting problem on my computer where it will boot, then crash, then boot properly. I'm not sure what is causing this (i turned on legacy for a while but reset back to defaults). I tried doing a windows reset already and this didn't work but I figure a complete factory reset should do the trick. I have burned recovery disks but cannot figure out how to use them. In the windows 8 advanced restart, I have tried the option to boot of usb as my dvd drive is external and it doesn't work. How to boot using the recovery disk? (the model is an envy 4)...
I managed to boot off them by turning off secure boot and changing the boot order to boot off usb optical drive in the bios menu....
Dell Inspiron 13z :: Running Windows 8 That Stopped Booting?
Jan 21, 2013I have a month-old dell inspiron 5323 13z running windows 8 that stopped booting yesterday. I had a problem with booting since I got the laptop, namely the boot always stopped and had to press ctr+salt+del to continue the boot process. Dell support recommended the usual things: updating the bios, the OS, resetting the system to factory settings with no effect. Finally, I have decided I can leave this minor annoyance until know when it stopped booting at all after hybernating the system (there was no problem with hybernate before this incident).
So, it displays the dell logo for a short time when powering up, then the screen goes blank but not completely black. After pressing some keys like space a text 'f12 options' is printed in the lower right corner and en empty horizontal bar may appear. Then typing ctrl+alt+del or some random keys the boot may continue and at this point it may be possible to enter the boot menu by pressing f12. So I can change the boot option to uefi or legacy, but neither works. There is no option to boot from USB or anything else (no DVD drive anyway!). So I cannot even try to boot a linux live CD. However, i remember that these options existed before before in the boot order or priority list which is empty now. I can run the pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu, but it does not find any problem.

I am trying to install Windows 8 but it just doesnt work. not matter if i allow secure boot or disable it. no matter if i choose from the "OS Optimized Defaults : [Win8 64bit]"
I changed the boot priority so that the DVD-Reader is on the highest place (1). Got a working Win8 DVD, also got win7 professional, but i'd rather install Windows 8.
Even though Win7 is okay too if it'll work then.
I don't know what to do other than switching around between all those options. and it doesn't work at all.
Whenever i start the laptop and choose to start with the DVD-Reader it lights up and nothing happens.

But from last few days am facing issue when windows 8.1 boots .ie., when i power on my laptop i see "lenovo log" for more than 15 minutes and sometimes windows doesnt start at all. I have to restart few times manually with power button to see the windows screen.
Initially i thought it is due to windows update, but even after I turned off update, am facing same issue. My laptop is hardly a month old and it is very frustrating to see this happening .
Dell Latitude E5420 :: Blinking Cursor On Booting Windows 7
Oct 19, 2013I am booting a Dell Latitude E5420 running Windows 7 and after the POST it just shows a blinking cursor..... BUT WAIT... not ALL the time... it does manage to boot into the windows after I choose the HDD from F12 options or sometimes even when I keep on shutting down and starting up again and sometimes when I do a restore checkpoint in the repair options....
The Diagnostic tests are not working when I go through the F12 and just hangs up showing the message -
Examining ACPI interface
Running MATS test
I can't understand... if it was consistently NOT booting or showing a consistent error... but here the behavior is erratic (except for the MATS test failure....

Nov 5, 2012My G580 suddenly stopped booting into Windows.
The first black screen with the Microsoft logo loads but afterwards I just get stuck in a black screen with the cursor which I can move around but nothing more.
So, my solution was to get into Safe Mode. Unfortunately although I don't have a password when Win7 boot, I'm asked for one in Safe Mode. The thing is neither the keyboard, nor the touchpad work so I cannot get past the login screen.
The keyboard works perfectly in BIOS, but not in the Windows login screen for Safe Mode.

Mar 4, 2015when my computer boots up it says "automatic repair" then it says "diagnosing your pc" then it goes from the logo screen to a blue screen that says "automatic repair" it gives you options and plenty of them but none of them work for my notebook computer. im starting to think of just throwing it away because it cannot be repaired and i dont have a warranty on it anymore in order to send it in. even if i did have the warranty it would take months to get back to me. so.....anyways ive tried command prompt to somehow reset it to factory defaults but i do not know how to do that. when i click on refresh your pc it says "there was a problem with refreshing your pc." and then when i click on "reset your pc" says "there was a problem resetting your pc" ....

Dec 25, 2012My brand new Inspiron 14z remains on the starting DELL screen after boot up.
The initial windows 8 parameters have been registered properly (it seems...) and since the second requested reboot the PC does not go to windows 8. I have been suspecting a hardware problem and ran the full diagnostic (success!). There is nothing into the setup (F2) parameters which looks wrong and none of the boot options (F12) I tried have been successful... Is there a way to run a windows 8 safe mode boot or equivalent (note that I cannot go inside windows 8 top change this kind of option of course), and to move forward?
I desperate to see the someting else than this Dell Logo in the middle of the screen (forever?).
Dell Latitude E5510 :: Booting Into Windows 7 X64 Doesn't Work Anymore
Jan 22, 2013tried to upgrade my Latitude E5510 from 2x2Gb (factury Samsung) to 2x4Gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9. BIOS updated to Rev. A13, latest. Memory is recognized as 8Gb. But booting into Windows7 X64 doesn't work anymore. If I boot from a Lubuntu CD (x86) it runs, naturally only with approx. 4Gb since this is a x86 OS-version. Windows 7 X64 just reboots. If I use Save Mode a reboot occurs when the loading of "ClassPnP.sys" starts. When I put in the old 2x2Gb everything works perfectly. Can't even get into Windows Setup from a clean DVD.

HP Envy15-3000 Lockups :: Notebook Freezes On Starting Windows Screen (booting Up)
Aug 15, 2014My Envy15-3000 notebook freezes while starting up. It only makes it to the Starting Windows screen then Microsoft icons stop moving. This has been going on since Tuesday (8/12). I ran checks and the memory and harddrive (quick and full) tests came back positive - i.e. no problems. I finally decided to reformat it yesterday (8/14). It gets all the way through the reformatting process until it wants to start the system for the "first time" (I imagine that this will be the last time it restarts in the recovery process) and still freezes on the Starting Windows screen. If I try to hard shut off and try any other boot up option I can think of (Safe Mode, etc.) it says Recovery Failed and asks me to retry, get details or Save Log. When I retry, it goes back to the freezing. As such, I am now in a seemingly endless loop of retrying the recover to get to the freezing start windows screen.
All I want to do is wipe the hard drive and reload everything. I'm not interested in recovering the old data as I have everything backed up. I got no error messages in my Run it, Memory, etc tests, so I am at a loss as to how to proceed.
I have the original drive recovery/windows 7 DVDs that came with the system.

When i tried to setup using windows vista Disk its showing both drives but the main c drive (450 GB ) is shown as unallocated disk and when i created a following text popeup showing " Failed to create new partition on selected unused space "
and only second drive 15 gb is shown active and its is a bakup drive of Dell

May 30, 2010One day the acer aspire 7735zg - 424g50mn model no: ms2261 refused to boot, when the boot screen turns on, the progress bar loading about half and then it constant beeping and it loads a little more and stops and then the rest of the progress bar loads and it change to the loading parameter page and then it restarts.
Anyone know what the problem is ? I did help the owner take out the hdd because he got some very important pictures and files on the disk. And for the thanks i got the laptop from he. The laptop is produced in october 2009 and is almost new.
How do i find out whats wrong and can i take it on the warranty when its so new without the orginal hdd, was thinking about setting in a new sdd disk.

No issues with battery and hdd.

Mar 29, 2010i just recently posted a disscussion on this model and i recently took it to a repair shop, at first they wanted $180 to fix it, which was ok, then they told us it needed a new harddrive, so it would another $100 more, so we went and got it from them without any work being done... now i have no idea what to do i just spent $200 to buy the thing and now its broke.
Symptoms:
Turns on to the windows recovery failure screen, push enter to continue to start windows and it trys to start up, it goes to the windows screen attemps to load for a second, then flashes a blue and shuts off and repeats the process.

I am going to format it as FAT32 so I have the ability to transfer files from mac to windows, but will that have an effect on game performance? I am mainly doing this to play black and white 2 and oblivion. I know oblivion will play well but how well will black and white 2 perform?

Dell XPS 17 :: Booting From Drivers CD
Apr 7, 2013Trying to update USB3 driver via various options following re-install of OS (another story/issue) - tried via the drivers CD but couldn't see what I was looking for. Back to Dell website and downloaded and 'installed' what was hopefully the right one. Re-booted, but aagh forgot to take the CD out of the drive! And the laptop entered lots of stuff via the command prompt screen and has come to a halt with a message:
A RAM DISK drive is available for this boot cycle as C.It contains several Hard Drive setup tools. Please use these tools only under the direction of Dell Support Staff. I understand the bit about Dell Support Staff, but hoped I could just exit in the normal way (exit>enter). Having said that, I don't know many command prompt entries... It's the full screen, not a command prompt window.Dell XPS 17 win7 x64.
Dell :: XPS M2010 Not Booting, No Video
Jul 25, 2008When I press the power button, the led's around the power button will light up and stay on for a few seconds then shut off. The power led on the left side remains lit as does the BT light. If I leave it set for a while, the BT light begins to flash but thats all I get - no diag code or anything. I have already tried removing/disconnecting everything I can think of (HDD, DVD, wireless, modem, BT card, memory, video card even) just to see if I could make it give me a diag code (I know - thats getting desparate). The only one that made it give me a code instead of turning off was removing the memory completely - it gave me the "no memory" code obviously (mute light was solid, vol up and down were flashing steady). But if I put known good memory in it, it doesn't work and if I put its memory in a known good laptop I have no probs. So I went ahead and bought a new motherboard and that didn't fix it (oops). Then I found this site.

Now problems starts, as soon as i switches power button all media button glows(which is ok) then optical drive make some noise and it hangs there!!!
