HP Envy 17 Audio :: Device Being Used By Another Application
Jul 28, 2014
Yesterday I plugged in an HDMI cable to output to a Toshiba tv. After unplugging the cable I no longer have sound on my HP Envy 17 Notebook (this notebook has Beats Audio). The product # is EOK85UA#ABA.
Product name: HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC Product number: D1E93UA#ABA
I have uninstalled/re-installed the driver, rebooted, and still no sound. When I right-click Speakers/HP, and Test - the pop-up says Device in Use. There are no legit applications using the device. I have been running Windows Defender since I used the official HP Recovery Discs I ordered. I have not visited questionable websites, yet, it looks like I have malware?
Faced with the problem. No sound after the laptop. When you try to check the sound device, a window pops up "the device is already in use by another application." But no program is not running. After rebooting the laptop sound occurs. Drivers are all set.

UEFI boot mode, not Legacy.Drivers for sound downloaded from realtek.com.tw. With standard windows drivers sound is always there. Tried the previous version of the drivers - ineffectually. Could it be that the problem is due to the UEFI boot mode? I do not want to reinstall the OS mode Legacy just to check it out.
New 2nd generation vostro 3550 laptop fingerprint reader driver software is available in dell online but there is no application software for fingerprint reader without any application how will I use it?
There's a little quirky behavior that's bugged me a little bit ever since I started using Snow Leopard last summer.
Whenever I minimize or close an application using either the yellow/red buttons on the application or simply hitting CMD+M / CMD+W, the menubar for that application persists, necessitating a click on whatever application behind it before that app is actually "active".
For instance, if I were to hit CMD+W on Firefox right now, iTunes would be staring me in the face, but the menubar would still be for Firefox -- and I'd have to click on iTunes before being able to play something.
Is there any config setting or some way to make the menubar minimize/close with the application I'm minimizing or closing?
I ordered new E6500 that came with Vista on it and I wiped that and have installed XP Pro SP2 on the machine. I have followed the guide on this page and installed everything in the correct order. The only thing that didn't install was the dial-up modem. It errored out and said "No MODEM device was found". Typically on the Latitude laptops I seem to remember installing the modem driver and it taking care of this entry in the device manager, but not this time.
There is a dial-up modem on the laptop and this is the only device that looks to not be installed. There is no webcam, WAN modem, or anything else like that.
Has problem with installing XP onto a E6500? Is the installer for the modem driver just bad or is there possibly something else going on.

I have no audio. It has been previously working, but suddenly stopped. On the small speaker icon there is a red cross indicating "No Audio Output Device is enabled" When I log on to the computer i get a window that says "CWindowsSystem32AUDIOSES.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."
I have attempted to Troubleshoot but unable to get any sound. I have updated the Audio driver, but it is the up to date driver.

I have followed the instructions in Testing for Hardware Failure on HP Support.
My computer is HP Compaq 7900p small. I bought new graphics card which is Asus AMD HD6450. When I test it I saw problem - no sound.
When I click on Sounds tab, I see that AMD HDMI Output-AMD High Definition Audio Device - not plugged in and I couldn't change it to default device. When I troubleshooted it, problem was that one or more audio devices isn't running.
I was searched in google for solution, and found it that I need to change in BIOS from DVI port to HDMI port, but in my comp BIOS version is 7.11 and I don't see where it would be changed.
Only what I did was that I swapped integrated audio to enabled then I get sound from my speakers, but AMD High Definition Audio Device still isn't plugged in. How to change it to default!
All the sudden my audio is not plugged in. My system shows that it is enabled, but there is a red "X" over the sound icon on the bottom right of my screen. I've had it less than a week.

Looking at my installed programs, I don't see it listed as being installed- but I have had sound previously.
HP G60 Notebook PC, Device:My conexant high definition smartaudio 221 Status:error(18) Driver:CHDRT32.sys Version:4.58.1.0. How can I installed back into my laptop.
I have HP envy 15 j002er laptop. Originally I got it with Windows 8 but then I changed operation system to Windows 7 Pofessional (64-bit).I can`t install IDT high definition audio codec on it. I guess that is the reason why I don`t have and I can`t use Beats Audio interface on my laptop (only speakers are working). There are no audio drivers for Windows 7 available for download on HP website. When I`m cheking for driver updates via HP support, it proposes me only updates for Chipset, Graphics, Network, etc.And no Audio Driver..How can I solve it and install IDT high definition audio codec?
I recently bought a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j009wm which initially had windows 8, I installed a new O. S. Windows 8.1 64 bit and lost the driver pack for beats audio, I have been searching online for a download but cant seem to get a link to download.
when i hook up my second monitor useing the hdmi port and switch the monitor mode to extend the audio stops working. The volume mixer still shows audio movement but will not output the audio.
So I recently purchased this powerhouse of a machine and absolutely love it. I have one problem though and it is a really bothersome one to me because i really enjoy listening to m music and use my laptop as an audio source for my higher end audio components.
I have an envy 15t-j000 touchsmart that i purchased in late july and received in mid august with the beats audio option.
Ever since I first powered on the computer the audio would skip or fluctuate. I would notice the fluctuation when plugged into my stereo via the 3.5mm headphone jack. It would sound like the volume would lsightly fluctuate or maybe miss some of the lower end frequencies.
The more noticeable problem is the skipping. It will make a skipping noise that sounds as if the computer is bogged down with material, even when all that is being performed is playback. It sounds like frequency in the lines. This will occur at random times under various circumstances. It occurs when playing a music file as well as streaming music through spotify or pandora or playing a video on youtube. The skipping occurs in all those circumstances in both output to another source (headphones or speakers) as well as playing through the built in speakers.
Is it possible I am missing a driver? Is the sound card messed up? Is it just a problem with the computer? is there a fix that doesn't require me sending it back to hp?
Just updated to windows 8.1 and now my beats audio is not working on my HP ENVY x2 Tablet/PC. I am running windows 8.1 32-bit, Product name: HP ENVY X2 PC, Product number: C7F27AV, Serial number: 4CN312078X. Also my headphones are not working.
I am having some trouble with beats audio. My laptop is a ENVY m6-1232ea.
My problem is that when I listen to music or watch a movie, and I go to change the EQ/bass settings it is completely ineffective. It just sounds completely flat. I tried turning on/off beats audio but the sound is still the same.
I've re-installed audio drivers multiple times. Beats Audio never turns off. I can uncheck the box, and while the sound is less full, adjusting the sliders on the equalizers within Beats Audio effects the sound. Also, the sound is very compressed no matter what. Listening to a FLAC song file with headphones on my phone without equalizers and listening to it on my laptop with headphones, the difference is obvious. Why this would happen or how to turn it off.

I have an HP ENVY Dv6-7210us (Windows 8.1) I recently just had to install a new hard drive but i'm missing my beats audio.. I have looked every where on how to get that back.. I've also seem to be missing a handful of other drivers..
My computer won't play sounds at all (videos online, downloaded music, games on my computer, everything).
This doesn't happen all the time. I'm not sure but I think it usually happens when I use my computer for a long time (1-2 hours). It starts working again when I restart my computer but it stops working later and I have to restart my computer again.
Hope someone can help here. Problem is that there is something wrong with my HDMI device. Firstly, when I plug the cable I have to restart the computer in order to recognize the external device. Once I restart I have picture on my TV from my laptop.
But there is no audio. Sound settings say there is no cable plugged. I tried everything, even re-installing win7. Initially when I bought the machine everything was working ok. But now it doesn't. I think that this started when a Dell guy replaced my screen.
Is it possible that this is something software/drivers based or the Dell guy did something bad on the hardware.
My volume icon in the system try reads "No audio output device is installed." The audio device is not even recognized in the device manager (i.e. there is no yellow exclamation point or conflicted device to update a driver to). The system simply does not recognize the fact that a sound device exists.
I have tried many, many things: Fresh install (as per the sticky-guide) of Windows Vista x64 Home PremiumFresh recovery from system recovery partitionTried all versions of the drivers from the HP support page (Realtek and Conexant) --- I believe I have conexant, though.Safe mode driver installsDriver installs on a driver signing rebootPutting the computer into hibernate, then resuming (odd, I know.. I heard it worked sometiems).Made sure "Windows Audio" service is enabled in Administrative ToolsServicesInstalled Windows XP drivers for "Microsoft High Definition Audio controller"Flashed BIOS to most recent version F.32Updated chispet drivers to most recent nForce availableeInstalled Vista SP2 I'm sure there must be one or two more things that I've tried and just can't remember. I am running Windows Vista x64 Home Premium with SP1.
PROBLEM: Six Months Ago, the Sound Device Stopped Working, I get the following message (No Audio Output Device is installed): It is as if NO audio device is installed on the motherboard.
Here's the catch: Sometimes when I START my computer the Device Works, and Sometimes It doesn't. If I restart the computer like 20-30 consecutive times (IF I'M LUCKY) chances that in one of these restarts the device MAY Work. Sometimes i go weeks without Audio.
Here are *some* things I've Tried: 1) Format the System:
Different OSs I've tried: Windows XP Home/Pro, Vista, 7 and Linux.
The expirience the same problem with all these OSs. So It's not an OS thing............
I have an HP DV6700 Laptop, and I recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) (The full version from MSDN academic alliance, not the release candidate). A few days afterward, I had an issue where my speaker icon has a red "x" over it, and when I hover over it it says "no audio output device is installed". The funny thing is that the speakers worked after windows update installed an update, then they stopped a few days later, and I cannot for the life of me get the speakers to work again!
